Come back first before you can convince anyone, and also that it’s difficult for you to make it there will not be same issue for others, go to Canada thread, a lot of Nigerians also make it in Canada so this antics of Nigerians still living abroad and trying to discourage others from coming is so played out. That’s the Koko bros if you see the way i am investing back Nigeria, you would be thinking oga take am easy. it is a matter of choice. i am not discouraging you or any one. i only shared my personal experience and i gave my advice. if you think i am blocking your way i am sorry sir. no vex. |

@ OP i would like to ask u some few questions. How old are you ? if you are above 40years i would advice you stay in Nigeria and make your money and enjoy ur self. people in abroad find it hard to gather that money, you have bills to pay, hydro, water, rent, INTERNET bills, car insurance my brother these are all the witches and wizard we have in the abroad. it is taxes taxes upon taxes. I just read some comments and laugh. even those who are successful are heavily taxed like fat cows. if you buy house for abroad if you wan sell after 25 years government of Canada or U.K or USA would collect 50% from the profit you make, i have been in Canada now for two years. my people oyinbo be like devil them collect N100 from you give u N10. my brother my advice if you can maintain and calm down u would be surprised God can give you insight. however if you are young and not married, say you are 30 years then you can consider traveling out. again this is my advice it should not form a generalized opinion. Again experience is a pleasant teacher. |

Their business you can do outside of nigeria without having BP. however u need people u can trust. also event center is a good business, thier ways u can monitor it remotely. You can hang camera around the event center to monitor things. needful: Meaning that the 12% federal govt bond is good then. For people like us that live oversea, what biz can we control from oversea without HBP or people ripping u off your heard earned money. Is annoying ooooo, seriously |

Op i would like to salute you for your courage. The only person that can stop you is yourself. My brother you are on the way to succes. Please let your focus become Focus. Meanwhile I would like to advise that rather than acquiring liability like house . Bros acquire asset. I see you bought a car that is some liability if you ask me, coz u are paying heavily for the car, whilst you could have saved more . U could have bought two cars and use them for uber that's more income . U are savings it's good but you need to reinvest it, you need to move to the next phase of self employment. Which is reinvesting it. You can buy T.Bills but you need to be careful of devaluation of the naira . You can buy a house if you know it would bring an income , else it's a liability coz u pay property taxes. So calculate and again I say calculate. Again I salute your courage. You may want to look at the trucking business too.
I would want to say here taxes is on the average of 30 % plus either HST or RST depending on where u stay. For me I have made up my mind to work but work smart and not hard. I dropped working hard in Nigeria. I can not come to Canada to work hard. Life is short. If person die who him go leave the money for. . |

In general Canada is good for kids and young men of 21 to 29 years. If you a man and u are above 30 and u are earning 7M, please stay in Nigeria. Canada has been set up such that 50% of ur earnings stays in Canada, that's taxes of 50%. Someone says you can earn $150k I laugh, that salary role is for CIO or senior executives. Guys before u reach that level here it may take a while. I was telling some one yesterday if I get commissioner role in my state in Nigeria. I will leave my family here in Canada. In Canada lots of people work just to pay Bill's and are indebted. Again Canada is good for young men and kids as well as women. Opportunities are in Canada, however if you are doing very well in Nigeria u can move ur family to Canada. Whilst u hustle in Nigeria as a man, with a strong agreement with ur wife before leaving. |

Spot on, well said. Esughusughu: Aiming high or far reaching? Someone talked about avoiding Nigerians due to the negativity and limited way of thinking, I can't blame the person, cause I have few examples of 2 people around me who were advised not to embark on what they wanted to do cause it wasn't possible. Yet, a lot of people have been able to climb high from advise they got from their fellow Nigerians. What I've come to realise is people give advise based on their mind conditioning, knowledge and exposure. The people you seek advise from can make or break you. The annoying thing is when some see you were able to achieve your feat, instead of them to ask for lessons to broaden their exposure, they make disgusting disparaging comments which forces you to write them off. Go out there, meet more people (never limit yourself to your country people) learn more on how to improve your situation, when you're at a better place, you can also advise people on the steps you took.
Inferiority complex, racism
I remember booking my first airbnb, and the people canceled on finding out I was a Nigerian. As a black person, with some kind of treatment you receive, you'll always perceive this undertone of racism even though it's not the case. Changing apartment and having to sell some items, when prospective buyers come to check the items and see you're a black person 'bele don spoil' for them and they'll give one stupid reason for not buying. Saw one Syrian refugee woman stop her kids from playing with a black kid (innocent kids ooo). Is it the white person who was supposed to do a manual job, on arriving and seeing he would be working for a black person changed his mind..lol Then you see the Caucasians and Negroes complaining about how uncomfortable they are with Syrians and Indians speaking their own language in place of work. My own is if you're not first nation, we're all immigrants. I went through a comment section in YouTube were some European and Chinese immigrants were arguing whose ancestor developed Canada. You carry face like shit, I do my own shit face too, nobody is superior to me, when even in Nigeria tribalism takes a stronghold, we're all in this together. Here I've realized you have to apply some kind of sense "not written in the books" in relating with people and getting what you want. Before I forget, that backstabbing and smiling with you at work place....that shii is something else. Well, I've learnt a lot and still learning. One question: why do people not disclose their salary? |

your last statement about what have i done to help, no one has requested for my help here. if any one ask for my help or advice i would give gladly, again my focus or discuss was not on Nigerians in nairaland forum, i was talking about Nigerians where i am here. To add more these same Nigerians like to backbit and gossip, if you are not careful home or family can be ruined if you are married, for real i am talking from experience, i know now experience is the worst teacher. TheCongo2: Once again, read this entire thread from page 1 and then tell me if you can't learn anything from Nigerians. If you say that those Nigerians on this thread can't be of any help to you, then I am afraid you are your own curse.
I have learned more from Nigerians on Nairaland than I have learned from Oyinbo. One day I will put down my testimony as to what Nairaland has done for me.
I guess you cant blame the entire community because of few bad apples
Furthermore, you are complaining how the Nigerian community didn't help you, what about yourself have you been helping people? |
Travel › Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Godbpraised: 4:01am On Jan 01, 2019 |
It should not, and i would explain with my own personal experience. when i came to Canada, Nigerians i meet in Canada were telling me i can not get a professional job, that the job i will get is support worker, no Nigerian spoke positivity to my life. No body told me i could go to school and upgrade myself more. all they keep telling me is that i should pick 3 care jobs, i will make more money at the expense of my career oh . can you imagine ? And meanwhile some of these guys are not doing the care job. Honestly their is nothing wrong doing the health support work or care job, but why should people project much negativity into my life. with the level of professionalism i have back home from Nigeria. Their also many things i can not tell you here, so many negative experience and wrong advise from Nigerians. It is sad, i have avoided everything Nigeria since i came to Canada, from church to meetings or parties. I told myself if i want to make progress i must think like oyinbo and talk like oyinbo, i would not be able to achieve that if i stay with people with so much negativity and jealousy. Again you can understand my stand point here. jelmusboy: This comment BROKE my heart |
