Let's start from somewhere. TBH police remuneration have always been miserly. People see the force as a last resort when more palatable options seem out of reach. There is no desire, no motivation, zero ambition to be a distinguished cop. Perhaps improving their wages and general welfare will make the force more attractive to intelligent and desirous minds. The officers may perhaps not need to engage in vices to meet up with the demands of their family.

I said HIDEOUTS. They make come to town and perpetuate their nefarious activities but retire to the rural areas to cool off when it's getting heated for them.

You can't be talking of apprehending vandals when data capturing and intelligence gathering is still a problem in our country. Even if you get visuals of the vandal, tracking is now an issue cos we don't have a credible data bank to match the video or photo to and profile the offender.

It's not just about installing cameras. There ought to be a central surveillance unit in every local government with good communication gadgets to quickly dispatch the police when need arises. Good power supply is needed cos those cameras are useless in the dark, then maintenance services to ensure they don't breakdown impromptu amongst others.

I remember a governor once suggested we equipping everywhere with cameras but empty headed political leaders felt it was expensive, ask these same people how much their security details cost per month and its all fully paid by tax payers. Peace of mind isn't expensive.

Not a bad idea for the city Centres but it's not feasible for the rural areas where most of the criminal hideouts exist. There will be need to erect structures to which the cameras are mounted cos of lack of development there. Another problem is how to monitor the cameras to ensure they are not sabotaged. In rural areas where electric power is hard to come by and policing is almost non existent, the cameras will be vandalized or stolen within a week.
