They write useless posts and paint unreal positions. Why do you not look at the positive things that have happened instead of dwelling on the negatives. UK had IRA rebels problems, US had and is till having terrorism threats from Alkada and others, Isreal had Palistinians problems up till now, Italy has mafiaso and drugs problems, Uganda has Northern Rebel problems,Zimbabwe had sit-titism and serious economic problems. Ghana once had serious economic and leadership problems, The list is endless. They all struggled and got out of the water and some are still struggling to solve the problems. There is no country in the world now that does not have one problem or the other, always caused by reactionary people of your ilks, who will never dwell on the positive but on the negative. Even if things are moving, they say they are not moving. As far as I am concerned, no past Nigerian head of state or Presidnet never had problems with die hard critics like you who put stumbling blocks on the way of sucess. The earlier you people repent, the better for this country. Otherwise, if even Jesus Christ comes to rule Nigeria, people like you will still see otherwise.

From all I know, it was this same Obasanjo that corrupted the present republic senate when he shared out N500k in 1999 to facilitate the election of Enwerem as Senate president order than Okadigbo who majority of the PDP senators were queuing behind then.

I am also aware that AD/Afinifere was in the tick of this because they worked with Obasanjo to ensure "that a man he can control" emerges as Senate president and not an uncontrollable Okadigbo. That is my problem with Yoruba leadership - the Bola Ige's, Adesanya's and co: They shout corruption and closes their eyes to same when it suits them. We can as well remember the Bola Ige Chicago story that Gani Fawehmi fought against.

Obasanjo is only playing the game that his people knows how best to play. He is the grand father of corruption and irresponsibility.

The press once more appears to be in frenzy over a commentary purported to be made by Buhari. Buhari as usual is news. What so ever he does or does not do is a scoop to be splashed by the press. His commentary at the meeting with the Niger state CPC was rushed to the press without proper investigation. No sooner had the news reached the stand than the presidency, represented by Dr. Abati, furiously shot an unfortunate riposte building on the sketchy over-sensationalized opinions of Buhari.

One cannot help but be shocked with the descent of the country to pedestrian (mis)interpretation of issues with the sole purpose of impugning the sterling qualities of a person. All efforts are made to make this otherwise upright leader, who suffers phonies gladly and who has no regards for divisions, a violent regionalist. That is the way his Sokoto commentary has landed him a forced characteristic which has since then come to be his absolute definition in the Nigerian press trumping all his history of discipline and patriotism. It is a clear case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang it, and remember this is not about a feline animal and a metal hook!

In this current situation, another deliberate fuss is caused to further hang this man by intensifying an already established stereotype. I just wonder; when have simple proverbs or political metaphors become literal representations of the objects they depict? Have we forgotten the ‘figuratively’ colorful first and second republics? When the late Mbadiwe (alias ‘a man of timber and caliber’) called himself ‘a political juggernaut’, I believe, nobody then thought of a monster caterpillar crushing all his political opponents to literal death. The Zik’s NPP was one time the ‘bride’ to be courted by other parties, did we at all think of a woman! What of Obasanjo’s ‘do or die’ declaration? Even if deaths had occurred at the election no one has related Obasanjo’s idiom to any casualties? Likewise, nobody has taken the late Bola Ige’s mentioning of the Northern ‘cows’ and ‘goats as part of the population census figures anything like livestock calculation more than the political slur it was meant to be.

Why is Buhari’s ‘kare jini, biri jini’ any different? Shorn of all the literal and decontexualized misrepresentations, it simply means ‘a serious contest’ i.e. the attitude of not giving up by the parties involved. ‘Kare jini, biri jini’, in a corpus checking on the contexts and collocates of the proverb, is mostly used where fierce competitions occur especially in sports and politics. Literal translation of this saying is mischievous crude and banal for even if we don’t understanding Hausa, are Nigerians actually ‘baboons’ (literal not figurative!)? One is disappointed that a person of Dr Abati’s intellectual caliber has taken this philistine ‘joke’ to higher planes to impute the calling of Nigerian voters as ‘baboons’ and ‘dogs’ to Buhari. This is to further estrange and alienate him from the people for their 2015’s political success. If someone, for example, told me that ‘it rained cats and dogs yesterday’, then my translation into, say, Hausa, will not only be that literal cats and dogs have fallen from the sky but that the people in the area have become cats and dogs also. Abati (PhD Dramatic Arts), this is the abysmal descent of that your unfortunate response and this analogy captures how yours may read to discerning minds. For the price of lucre, many great intellectuals have committed intellectual suicide and fallen prey to the wiles and machinations of politicians only to come seeking for that hard earned reputation when it is too late and when the orgy is over.

And probably that is why that irrevocable incorruptibility of Buhari has remained a great threat since it cannot be Ghana-must-goed. His views are misinterpreted for his daring to be different and not being part of the corrupt gravy train. But by every effort that is made to besmirch him, he emerges cleaner to his massive unbought constituency. And, as the Hausa saying goes, when the sky is out, it can’t not be covered by our palms. Buhari is the sky and the PDP gang is the palms.

Tinubu did not encourage GEJ to breach any arrangement. We were all witness to events then to note that Tinubu, Buhari, Shekarau and many other Party bosses simply stated that zoning is a PDP affair and as such, non of their business.

3. I believe Buhari is clean and have always supported him even when I believe that he may be leaning toward favouring the North as typified in the way he handled PTF projects. Allowing him and Tinubu to form and control a party that will rule Nigeria is very detrimental the interest of the Igbos and our South South Neighbours.

4. It is very unfortunate our leaders in the East has, as always, been myopic. They stupidly supported GEJ with, nothing in it, for us. We have sold our birthright for nothing in supporting a clueless and idiotic vision-less GEJ for President. It is annoying believing that this GEJ, was allowed to destroy Zoning to the detriment of the Igbo's and South South, who both have been the greatest losers in the power equations in this country. The manners pure touts have been allowed to manage the GEJ government is too stupid of South South leaders and Igbo's. The earlier we disassociate our future, our people and our stand from GEJ, the better for us.

5. Tinubu by his antecedent will never be part of a rebuilding process in this country. His past is too dirty to allow this. The best he can achieve is to continue to build his Yoruba power-base controlled by mafia-dom. In this equation, Igbo's interest will count for nothing. South South will remain also their tool as they fashioned it after the war.

6 Igbos should not allow ourselves to be enslaved again in this country. I repeat, Igbo youths must understand that we have no leaders. We must stand up and fight for our future. If this Tinubu and Buhari move works out, Supporting a clueless GEJ will be no option. Joining Tinubu and Buhari (Unless a strong Igbo power base is negotiated into that party)will be an effective slavery.

8. Igbos when the time arrives have the most potent power to effective control this country (We don't need thus. All I stand for is equity and fairness. No country on earth has ever worked by a section dominating or controlling others). All we have to do to have our fair share is to insist on a transparent election. We have enough empowered youth generation who can move en-block, raise enough money for any political party, well spread across the country to make the 1/4 in 2/3 states vote spread an easily achievable for whoever we support in a free and fair election.

9 We must mobilize our people (Most Importantly our "Ommata" boys. They remain our biggest power block that we have been neglecting). During the Glorious 1960's days it was the Igbo state Union powered by our then "Omata" that did the work for Zik and co.

10. We as Igbo youths must wake up from our stupidly imposed slumber. We must forget the generation that lost the war. The war effect is still in the heads and has turned them into permanent slaves. We must be different. We must rise and build our own power block.

Arunma Oteh, embattled Director Genera of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is a product of Harvard. At the ongoing House Committee on the NEar Collapse of the Capital Markets, part of what we learned is that she knows how to make a presentation.

Mrs. Daisy Ekinah, a SEC commissioner with over thirty years working experience revealed that Ms. Oteh, upon her resumption as SEC boss, made a presentation on “Roadmap to a World Class Capital Market” at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group in 2008.
The presentation was fabulous, however that was the last everyone in the SEC management team ever heard of it again.

Harvard MBA’s or maybe it is female Harvard MBA’s working in Nigeria seem to have serious personality crises. Whilst they may be intelligent and book-smart, they lack the inter-personal communication skills required to motivate personnel, clients and other stakeholders. The only inter-personal skills they deem necessary to work on are their business development or marketing skills. These type of skills are vital to bring in money, however once the money comes in, they become even temperamental and distant from their clients.

Ms. Oteh has displayed flashes of arrogance in the past, one would think to describe as flashes of righteous indignation concerning the allegations she levelled against Hon. Herman Hembe. However when one considers the fact that even senior management staff at the SEC are seriously disillusioned with her leadership style, calling it ‘selfish’, ‘dishonest’ and ‘singular’ in not so many words. Then one begins to see a woman who has serious character issues, but hides behind the ‘brilliance of a Harvard MBA’, in hopes the brilliant light will dull everyone else into believing she possesses something special.

Surely, it wasn’t the good professors at Harvard who taught Ms. Oteh that management meetings are best held via email and text messages.

According to Ekineh, ““There is a dysfunction in SEC, because we no longer work together as a team. There is also absence of respect and team spirit. During the time of the last two DGs, we used to hold meetings in their office regularly. This helped a lot, especially in bringing unity and cohesion to our activities, while helping us achieve more.

“Today, we hardly hold meetings and face-to-face interactions; instead, meetings have been replaced with text messages and emails. I am not saying text messages and emails are bad, but it should not make us do away with meetings and face-to-face interactions.”

Ms. Oteh has been working with these people for close to 4 years or more, could she not tell they were dissatisfied or is it an underlying selfish nature that allowed her to harden her heart to the feelings of individuals who have served their country for a much longer period than Ms. Oteh whose Harvard MBA magically lifted her into the position of power?

Whatever the case may be, it is glaring that as a nation we sell our own institutions short. There is good reason for this, as many of our institutions are nothing to write Harvard about. However in the same sentence, some of these Harvard graduates are nothing to write our institutions about.

To think Ms. Oteh with all her Harvard qualifications and such, could mismanage an institution like SEC to the extent that ALL her management staff are disgruntled. Where is the cohesion? How can a regulator whose duty is to build trust and integrity in the markets not have the trust of her board room?

We shoot ourselves in the foot over and over again in Nigeria. We keep putting these foreign talents ahead of our own deep talent pool and the fact is relationship, character and integrity are more important than certificates.
Next time you see Harvard on a CV or presentation, take your time to assess the character and values of such individuals before handing them the keys to the kingdom.

As for your write up, are your sure it was not purely motivated by envy? I suspect you have had personal issues with people with foreign degree overshadowing you.

Our institutions are rubbish and cannot compare with what is obtained in Europe and America. Especially the likes of Harvard that are clearly the best. However going to such schools does not make one the best.

Adopting their approach in totality in tackling our peculiarities in our nation can be very wrong.

Kabikala: I am totally with the Governors on this as the presence of the immunity clause is not the real reason the present fight against corruption in Nigeria is ineffective.
We are having the third set of two-term governors in Nigeria and in spite of all the hoopla about battling corruption, not one of them have been convicted by any Nigerian court (apart from the slap on the wrist Alamieyesegha got). Even Odili was able to secure a permanent injunction against arrest and prosecution. Other countries involved in the Halliburton, Wilbros and Siemens scandals prosecuted their indicted citizens, but not Nigeria, the country where beneficiaries of the bribe are safely esconced. Congressman Jefferson was convicted in the US for serving as a conduit to funnel bribe to Nigerians, but no Nigerian went to jail for receiving the bribe. In another instance, the EFCC deliberately frustrated the judge handling the Halliburton case in Nigeria by refusing to bring its prosecuting witness for an entire year such that the judge had no choice but to strike out the suit. Were all these as a result of the immunity clause? The answer is no.
After Gani Fawehinmi successfully secured the leave of the court to the effect that in spite of the immunity clause, governors and other public officials covered by that clause could still be investigated while in office, the work of any serious-minded anti-fraud agency became easier. But what have they done about it? Even Keyamo was not allowed to prosecute the Customs boss (Inde Dikko) on allegations of certificate forgery.
A serious-minded agency desirous of fighting corruption can investigate and prosecute all the accomplices to corruption in government including the finance commissioners, the Accountant Generals, the Auditor Generals, and even the conniving banks. It can always prosecute the governor after leaving office, but have we seen that happen here?
We all saw how Obasanjo used Ribadu to hound Governors who did not do his bidding. Imagine what he could have done during the third term battle if there was no immunity clause to protect dissenting governors.
I am convinced that the intent of Jonathan in pushing for this amendment is to whip governors who do not do his bidding regarding 2015 into line. There is ample opportunity for a serious minded government to fight the overwhelming corruption we are witnessing currently and the immunity clause is not the reason we are not seeing that fight. The House of Representatives subsidy probe report is a good place to start. Halliburton, Siemens and Wibros are others.
At this stage of our democracy, the governors are a good check on the awesome powers of the Nigerian president who controls all the levers of power - more than 50% of total national income, controls the armed forces, appoints the Chief Justice of the Federation, appoints the INEC Chairman and commissioners, appoints the head of ICPC and EFCC. We all saw how absolute power could be corrupted under Obasanjo where the national assembly has not been able to provide the required checks and balances.
I say No to immunity clause removal at this point. It is a self-serving agenda by Jonathan. I am totally with the Governors on this as the presence of the immunity clause is not actually hampering the present fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Removing the immunity clause will create an imperial President that will make it difficult for any opposser to raise a voice. Imagine Fashola without Imunity supporting and funding his party ACN against a rampaging PDP? He will we send to jail with both true and fabricated corruption cases.
