Exactly my point! We should be looking at people here.

Most people in Lagos are there to hustle. They hardly have time to think on how to be creative. Even the institutions of learning produces mostly dummies, who are running around the town with their CVs in hand.

Though, it's difficult to get an enlightened city/populace in a Third World country, I'll still give it to cities that have limited funds but have managed to achieve a higher quality of life i.e clean environment, quality road networks, near perfect housing schemes, conducive incentive to learn, etc.

Abuja, Enugu comes to mind.

(PH, Warri, and other oil cities are battling with serious environmental degradation which affects their quality of life)
Love your objectivity. Because of lack of proper data management in third-world countries, studies like this is difficult. Lagos could be the most enlightened, it also may not like most people here are ranting.

Have you noticed that even with the population of lagos, other cities still beat it to creativity, music, poetry, education, sports etc

cheesy
Bros, there is no argument. The evidence is over-whelming (in order) and Abuja cannot be included.

Cultural diversity: Lagos, Warri then PH
Social life :Lagos, PH and Warri
Business : Lagos, Warri/ Onicha then Kaduna
Purchase power: Lagos, Warri, PH
Population : Lagos, Kano, Kaduna
Economy: Lagos, Onicha, Kano/ Kaduna
Amenities: Lagos, PH and Warri
Highest number of HQs: Lagos, PH and Warri

Guy, Lagos is the Nigeria that never was. Forget NL tribalism, you are a Lagosian FIRST before Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa. That is the beauty of Lagos.
i guess you did not understand my line of argument, sorry oohh

People are enlightened and not cities.

Because of the population of lagos, I might be tempted to give it to lagos just like most people here, but if we take the ratio of enlightened to not enlightened, then cities like abuja, jos and enugu might be tops

World English Dictionary
enlightened (ɪnˈlaɪtənd)
—adj
1. factually well-informed, tolerant of alternative opinions, and guided by rational thought: an enlightened administration; enlightened self-interest
2. privy to or claiming a sense of spiritual or religious revelation of truth: the search for an enlightened spiritual master

@go home. Are you a Lad? Did my comment hit home?

I don't need to start a thread because most of the relationship topics have been overflogged. smiley

Thank you for suggesting though,
You think this topic have been over flogged and you are here throwing comments, huh. You are right. you actually do not need to start a topic on men. If I want one, i am sure there are a thousand and one of them on Google.

Do you know why comprehension was key or is still key (don't know how old you are) to passing English? we were being trained to contribute intelligently to a given topic. Right from the days of ali and simbi until uni level, we always had comprehension in our English curriculum, Since i have known schooling,  comprehending a text and answering and discussing questions from that same text has been key to passing any English exam. Most companies will also not employ you if you don't posses this basic skill. so you are made to take verbal reasoning (SHL)

From your reply, i noticed that you simply lack this skill,  after all the days of hard work from your English tutors. shame. How can you read a topic (though not the best of writeups) on contemporary Nigerian Girls and come up with this

Mumu post. Are contmeporary men fulfilling their duties as husbands, boyfriends and the like?

It's so hard to find a good man these days,
Is this all you had to say? I was shocked. I am still shocked. learn from your mates Ogugua88 and Mrs Chima. Did you notice how they have stayed with the topic? I have personally been shaped by their comments. that's the reason why I come to NL in the first place.  So the next time you want to put up something here, discuss objectively and intelligently. If you are not so smart, i suggest you shut up

You're right. I think a woman should cook as well. What I meant with my post is that there should be more to a woman than cooking and more to a man than strength. People should be well-rounded for just in case moments. If every woman can do some "manly" things and every man could do some "womanly" things, there'd be fewer divorces. Any "man-stuff only" man would have divorced my mom ages ago. She's a night nurse, so she sleeps during the day. My dad does most of the cooking during the week unless she's lucky to have a day off. Just like when my dad is at work and can't do some "manly" functions. My mom can do it. If she's busy sleeping or working, I step in. The house flows better that way. At least that's what I've experienced.
Good. No hard and fast rules to a success story. Family inclusive. The only hard and fast rule here is understanding.

^^^^ That's why women and men should know the basics of everything and anything. I mow the lawn. I take out trash. I repair the car I drive myself. I change the tire if it needs to be changed. If coolant is low, I buy coolant and fill it. I follow my dad to auto shops so that I know how much parts and services are supposed to cost, so that when I go alone, I won't be cheated. Men doing "men duties" and women doing "women duties" is bull. There is nothing better than a well-rounded human being.
Like your post. But I fault it. In life, we all have to take responsibility in every single thing we do. I mean in work places, school etc. Over the years, the woman have been made to take care of the home, because she is the weaker sex and does less heavy weight jobs but more time consuming. A good example can be sited in a case where the man is likely to cut the woods from the tree while the woman takes it home usually 100s of miles. Another example is the case of child birth and what follows. That is the woman's responsibility. Have you asked yourself why child birth is not shared? her body is a natural cook (br.east. feeding) for the child. It is the mans duty to be responsible for food, shelter etc. Children also have their part to play. Today like you said things have changed. Women feed their family, men cook. Children pay their fees. But the question is,  in an ideal case, who should be in charge? Men should cook? why the woman provide the food and shelter? No nau.

It very okay if you buy coolant yada yada yada and pay for the rent,  but my sister if you dont and cant do it, no correct man will call you a failure, he see it as his responsibility. A lot of men cook too. in fact most men are better cooks than their wives, but that is not his responsibility and should not necessarily be shared unless in understandable circumstances.

In choosing a man to marry, one of the qualities women look out for in men is, can he protect me and my children, is he confident, is he hard working especially when it comes to activities that will bring money etc etc,  same goes for men too. can she cook? can she take of my kids,  etc etc. Because of this, Men naturally go to learn those qualities to attract the best females, Women also strive to learn her own quality to be attracted by the best male. it even happens in the animal kingdom. Darwin called it survival. Nowadays, the competition is getting stiffer, and the dynamics are fast changing,  that's why some men learn how to cook to impress a lady. Ladies also acquire or fortunately possess ( like in your case) manly skills. Children are not left out too. To reduce the burden of tuition fees, some help their parents in family business during term breaks or in some cases they apply and win scholarships.

You have to understand that the woman is the closest link to the children and not the man,   so anything as regards to the home where the children stays, the wife should be boss.A lazy woman is most likely to rare lazy kids. Same goes for the man. He is got the strength. so anything the family needs that require strength (physical and mental), the man should be out there. i think that was what the OP was trying to say. For women who see their primary responsibly to be chasing career instead of the home, may God bless them with men that sees his primary responsibility as cooking instead of chasing money.  My mum is a career woman but she cooks. she sees it her responsibility and hobby and not slavery. Some women prefer to have fake a.s.s. hobbies like pinging. some call cooking slavery.

So in summary, just like at work where the manager has his job function and a head has his, so also in our homes.

Christianity EtcRe: Tempted To Assist A Family With God's Money (Tithe) by gohome: 9:09am On Oct 03, 2011
Lacoolmley:
Let A = Poster and B = Brother in need
Let’s assume A is a practicing Christian and earns N1000. Thus tithe = N100 and remainder = N900
If N900 is not even enough for A’s transport to work that simply means he doesn’t have excess cash to give B.
Does it mean that A has only N900 remaining in his account for all the time that he has been working? I guess not. But if so, it means A needs help too.
I think  A can help B through other ways like contacting people he knows that can help B get a job; or speak to his pastor who could know some other members that can help; or even sharing food with him (after all, food for one is enough for two)
B can also pull his kids temporarily out of school or put them in a cheaper one.
What I’m trying to say is that tithe is tithe and belongs to God. You cannot tell God how best to use it. Your part is just to bring it. If you think helping your neighbour or brother is by giving him your tithe, then there won’t be any tithe at all as we can never exhaust the number of people we meet daily that need help in our society. So please help the guy from what you have left after paying your tithe or do it in kind.
you are missing the point. Did Jesus or his apostles pay tithe?
Is paying tithe a commandment or a law?

To me it is a law. And as st Paul said, my standard is Christ. The same Christ answered this question in matt, where he said GOD is the brother in need. So giving a brother in need, is that not the same as giving GOD?

So brother, forget about ancient laws out of selfishness and greed of wanting financial blessings and follow Gods commandments. Love God and your neighbor.

Do you know that a hausa/fulani man Alhaji Samaila Mohammed was a fed rep for Jos-North/bassa constituency in 2008? No one is complaining, No one complained. Nobody is stopping anybody from contesting, the problem Jos is facing is that the hausa/fulani wants to take the LGA and get a first-class chief by all means, including intimidation and killings so they can start dishing out indigene certificates,

Just listen and read carefully. Jos crisis has never been this protracted. Crisis is not however new in Jos but it has never been in this dimension. What people are saying is the present spate of crisis in Jos was aggravated by the govt of Jonah David Jang. With all due respect to him, perhaps he never knew it would result to this. But like every pdp member, one think they think about is winning and winning an election at all cost. Remember in 2007, OBJ said the election was a do or die affair. That was how Jang treated the 2008 local govt election in Jos North LGA. He was warned, (u could read my earlier post). In summary, what i am saying is that this dimension of Jos crisis could have been averted if the Plateau state govt had not played politics with it. I was opportuned to attend to the Plateau Stakeholders Reconciliation Workshop last year and I got the gist first hand. The hand of the govt is not clean.
Wether Hausa Fulanis are native of Plateau State is a matter beyond this debate.
its rather strange to blame this crisis on the governor without blaming the jobless fanatical uneducated hausa/fulani folks who started the crisis in the first place. I think it will be intelligent to say the governor contributed to worsen the crisis, just like you and me, but responsible? think again.

We all know the truth. folks that live in Jos know for sure the root cause of the crisis, we are just deceiving ourselves.

Ayowumie:
Wether Hausa Fulanis are native of Plateau State is a matter beyond this debate.
They are not natives simple,  is that so hard to understand? Now since you know its a matter beyond this debate, take back your earlier statement that said hausa/fulani, settled in Jos since the 18th century
PoliticsRe: Wikileaks: Gov. Jang Lagely Responsible For Jos Crisis by gohome: 11:00pm On Sep 25, 2011
Ayowumie:
I never said that the Berom were conquered and or converted to Islam. I said the "Hausa Fulanis settled" in Jos in course of propagating Islam. Hausa Fulanis conquered the Jarawas in Bauchi specifically around the areas known now as Tora LGA of Bauchi. Naturally, every settled population expands so it was for Hausa Fulanis in Jos.
Hausa Fulanis root is traced back to the Arabs and being the kind of people that they are and the tendency for them to propagate their religion, they are usually aggressive. They settled in Jos probably through coercion and or aggressiveness although there is no written record of an occurrence of violence between the Berom and the Fulanis. All these can however be traced to the Hegemonic and Expansionist tendencies of Hausa Fulanis.
and your point is?

Gang violation video, a ruse – Abia govt

We don’t investigate violation cases based on what people put on twitter. When a crime is reported, the DPO must send detectives to investigate the scene of the crime. Up till now have you seen the victim? Have you seen the scene of crime? Have you seen the suspects? It is a very dangerous rumour that must be dismissed by all good meaning Abians and Nigerians” - Bala Hassan, Commissioner of police Abia State

You guys watch the video, do you think those guys did not act

Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief Don Ubani, has said the state is not bothered about the speculation that a female student of the Abia State University, Uturu, was gang-violated by five suspected cult members also believed to be students of the institution.

The yet-to-be identified female was allegedly violated on August 16 and the dastardly act was posted on the Internet on August 17.

But describing the video as a “ruse,” the commissioner insisted that the story had no basis and had yet to be reported to the police in the state.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent who watched the video clip posted on the Internet, reports that it shows five young men having intercourse in a barbaric manner with a lady.

Voices from the video claimed that the incident took place at ABSU and that the victim and the perpetrators were students of the university.

However, Ubani told NAN in Umuahia that “the issue of gang violation in Abia State University is a mere ruse, such a thing did not happen.’’

Meanwhile, the university also on Wednesday disowned the supposed five-man gang who roundly subjected the girl to violation, saying that both the victim and suspects were not their students.

The university authorities made this known at a press conference in Umuahia, the state capital.

The Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Udo Nwokocha, said the university had conducted thorough investigations and discovered that the purported incident neither took place in ABSU nor were the rapists or victim students of the school.
