1. That you do not have the requisite inclination to follow his explanation through, or;

I'll tend to think the latter is more correct in this circumstance, but you may advise us differently if this is not your understanding. New English wey you learn dey sweet you to type here abi? Sant1m: Under Gej oil was sold for above 120, were are those reserves today, You like it or not Gej mismanaged our reserves and brought us to where we are now. No matter how you guys try you cannot divorce yesterday's mismanagement from the consequence we have today. You claim Gej had the best economic team but Iweala herself admitted that GEJ GOVT BORROWED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to pay salaries in the first part of 2015. She equaly agreed that there have not been capital releases since the second quarter of 2014 due to dwindling finances. "Nigeria cannot eat her cake and still expect to keep the coin", our reserve is still virtually what it was when Gej handed over, if i inherit the level of Dangotte's wealth, are we saying Dangotte conglomerates will suddenly become broke under one year because i am a bad manager? If that happen then know that there were hidden toxic assets and due loans that caused it. You like it or not corruption was the main source of funding the parallel or black market under Gej, the value of the dollar then was artificial. 2.1B dasukigate funds, dollars handed out to delegates during the election where were they exchanged? The current mess of the dollar (I guess you mean Naira) is as a result of Blockage of revenue leakages and implementation of TSA. Its natural for the economy to react to adjust itself to this sudden stoppage of easy and illicit cash.. Go and check the value of South Korea currency to the dollar and you will agree with me that, a countries currency value is not a death sentence, its an opportunity for us to improve our productive base while seeking to be self reliant. PDP AND GEJ ARE TO BLAME Please what theory of economics are you quoting here?! SoNature: I am shocked by the way these APC apologists think. Frankly speaking, I expected to see the argument that when dollar/naira goes high, it will force Nigerians to patronise local commodities because the foreign ones which dominate our local markets today will become a luxury and only affordable to the rich.
Surprisingly, you are busy talking about recovered loots and its projected naira value meanwhile we don't know how much has been recovered yet because nobody has accounted for it or told us the projects they would be channelled into. And how sure are you that Magu will not run away with the repatriated loots like his ex-colleague, Larmode? Please wake up!
I pray that you receive #commonsense asap to understand that almost everything we use in this country is imported hence; the need to stabilise our local currency against its foreign counterparts by encouraging Nigerians to patronise made in Nigeria goods which will stimulate the economy NOT telling us some useless loots repatriation theory. A country that still imports toothpicks and pencils after over 55 yrs of existence still has a long way to go.
God help Nigeria very nice post! the question nobody is asking is "Where is ibrahim Lamorde'? "What has happened to the recovered loot in the last 6 years"? I see we are not very good with history as a people. |

naijainstinct: The entire month of January 2015 was hell for me & my family. Before the event that took place that month, I used to think that the mad people roaming the streets were all victims of drug abuse, alas I was wrong.
I'll love to use this opportunity to say a very big THANK YOU to the members of Nairaland family who kept on encouraging and praying for me throughout that difficult period. @shegsrules, @menix, @yorex2011 @lastmessenger, @dorox, @tranglatar, @twosquare @GoldCircle, @Orex @adexsimply, @haibe. You guys were awesome. May God continue to bless & lift you. I cannot say enough thanks to @alexk2 and @tranglatar. These are guys I have never seen in my life yet they encouraged me like a blood brother. May God bless your hearts & grant all your heart desires this year and beyond in Jesus Name. Amen! I created this thread www.nairaland.com/2083522/please-advice-sister-needs-urgent on the 9th of January 2015 when I desperately needed advice from experienced & wise Nairalanders. Although the thread never saw the frontpage, the little advice and prayers I got from the few who commented were more than enough to push me through.
It's over a year now and I'm delighted to share the testimony of how my sister was delivered from insanity. True to the comment of one of the God-sent Nairalanders on the previous thread, my sister had been battling with depression for a while and was trying to use religion as a succour. Her sudden withdrawal from everyone was a sign of depression but we mistook it for trying to be closer to God. To cut the long story short, the climax of the whole experience was on the 10th of January 2015 at about 11:05pm. Earlier that evening, my sister returned from church and was muttering some incoherent words to herself that made me really suspicious but she acted normal. Even when I asked her questions, she answered very well. Mum had retired to bed and I was in my room reading comments/advice from the previous thread about her issue. I heard strange noises from the sitting room/kitchen but I assumed my sister was probably trying to clean up the dishes and return some other stuff like water into the fridge. I was very wrong. Not until I heard a loud bang that I jumped up from bed and ran to the sitting room, what I saw shocked me to my marrows. Right there was my sister with a knife in one hand and an electric kettle on the other (it was with these she made the loud bang), her clothes (the one my mum gave her to wear) were torn to shreds & she was almost completely unclad. She had torn the sofa with the knife, pulled out a wall lamp by force, poured out all the contents of the standing fridge and chest freezers, torn open the bag of rice, smashed all the crates of egg on the wall, went to the store and poured the cement I kept on herself, sliced the yams, fishes and potatoes in the kitchen, poured disinfectant all over the kitchen, bursted open the bag of garri, shredded a part of the matress in her room & even tore the wrapper her little daughter who feel asleep while watching cartoon in the palour used to cover herself, infact a part of the house was upside down.
I couldn't believe all that happened while I was fully awake in my room (though my door was shut & the sound system was quite loud). At this time, my mum woke up and joined me in the sitting room. I quickly grabbed the knife and kettle from her and locked her arms to her back in a bid to overpower her. Mum was praying and crying and even slipped (because the mixture of rice grains, water, smashed eggs, turkey wings/laps, tomato paste etc made the tiles very slippery and difficult to walk on. We were confused on who to call or how to manage the situation. I tried asking her what was wrong with her and why she turned the house upside down, her response was that she was looking for her academic credentials (she had earlier burnt all her credentials). When my sister realized I won't release her arms, she was becoming aggressive. She was saying all sort of meaningless things and begging me to release her to go outside. She kept seeing all the cartoon characters on TV as herself and even thought the grains of rice scattered on the floor were a multitude of people.
By the grace of God, a doctor was able to sedate her by 12:37am. By that time, I was exhausted, frustrated, scared, shocked and sad. I just couldn't find the right words to console my mum. She was devastated. Needless to say we could not sleep till dawn. Each time my sister woke up from her deep sleep, we got scared of what her next reaction will be. It took days and extra hands to clean up the mess in the house. To shorten the story, after pastors came to the house to pray, we took her to a psychiatric hospital and she was on drugs for months till her condition improved. Today, she is doing very well and even works with a multinational organisation (through the help of a friend).
I learnt several lessons from this sad event which I'll like to share: Such cheering news reading this! Our God works in wondrous ways. I am indeed happy to hear that your sister is doing well. Nigerians and indeed Africans should pay more attention to issues of the mind (sociological, psychological and psychiatric). cheers |

Bevista: What Alibaba is saying is that, had the management of your bank stole your money (say, N2m) and shared it among themselves and the president "broke the law" to recover it for you, would you advise him to let go instead of breaking the law? Would you tell the president to either recover every stolen money for everyone or let your case rest? Would you tell the president to ignore the issue and get you a job instead? Would you defend the bank management for their actions? --- What if you lost a loved one because you couldn't access that money to pay for his/her medical bills? What if you missed your final exams because of that stolen money? You think this does not concern you directly? Do you know why you don't have good schools, hospitals, roads, jobs, etc? Or you think there is no correlation between looting of public funds with poor welfare & infrastructure? --- I am not saying that the president should not be criticized, but to blindly support/defend those who have mortgaged our collective future is beyond ridiculous. You want an innocent man to transform the economy, but yet you want those who bastardized it continue walking free? I see you have taken it upon yourself to explain what you know nothing about! well, I don't need your explanation! you cannot perpetuate legality with illegality! I rest my case! |

Alibaba is too civilized to be writing such in public space. Corruption is evil and must be tackled head on. But a society that does not keep to its own set of laws/rules is an accident waiting to happen. Nigerians have been through this chapter before. If we need to reform our laws for better effectiveness, then So be it.
If a court of law grants bail to a suspect, that doesn't mean the suspect has been set free. For all you know, that very suspect may get a life time sentence at the end of the day. |

You decide to relocate and build a house with the money you made while toiling in the West, but your Western trained children will not relocate with you, they will abandon you for the Western comfort which you also sort in your youth, they will adopt their individualistic culture and their lack of care for the elderly, and you may find yourself alone and full of regret, It's a vicious circle indeed. Career › Re: Pains Of A 'first Class' Graduate In Nigeria :'( by GoldCircle: 10:35am On Aug 11, 2015 |
Jarus: First, I concede things are tighter now compared to our era (pre-economic meltdown of 2009) when banks, investment institutions and many other companies recruited on weekly basis. I graduated October 2006 with First Class honours and by December, even before my convocation, before NYSC, I had two offers, StanbicIBTC and Vetiva, and at various stages of KPMG and UAC, and turned down test invites from Accenture. And I didn't even bother to apply to banks, only StanbicIBTC - where my CV was submitted by someone else.
Many of my classmates were being aborbed by banks in probbaly worst clase scenario. My classmates littered investment firms like BGL, Merristem, Vetiva, UBA Capital, PHB Capital etc.
By the time we finished NYSC in 2008, it still hadn't got so bad. I got Oando two weeks after NYSC and didn't show up at the final stage of Shell.
Surplus as jobs appeared to be in the period I talked about, it doesn't mean that we sat at home and expected the jobs to come and meet us. We used all things within our disposal Information and networking were especially critical.
Less than half of these jobs were advertised. Of all the companies which recruitment I underwent from the foregoing paragraphs, only UAC and Shell were advertised. Others were by passing CVs around to someone that worked there or friends of someone that worked there.
This is where information is key. You don't sit down and expect job to come and meet you, even if you have first class from Harvard.
You need to hustle, you need to do unconventional things, you need to network, you need to do daring things. I once saw the email address of the CEO of a multinational consulting firm in newspaper and politely sent an email to her, praising her company and asking for opportunity to be invited for their test. She acknowlegded the email and said she had passed to her HR.
Job hunting is hustle. Talk to people. Dont be shy. I have countless stories to tell, of myself anf friends, but let me stop here.
And by the way, how old are you? Have yyou written the tests of KPMG, PwC, etc? How did you fare in the tests of companies you have written in the last 2 years? I dont want to believe you have not written any test.
First class is a great opportunity if well used. It was highly helpful to me. You have said it all. Job hunting itself is a full time job. I say this because it takes time, skill and energy. @op,There's the need to avoid these 25K+ jobs (many of them multi level marketing) and focus on the big picture. Mind you, by big picture, I don't mean focusing only on multinationals like SPDC, Exxonmobil or British gas. I'm saying avoid time wasters. Those 'small small' corner adverts in the Guardian of Tuesdays and Thursdays. I look forward to such a time I can mentor young peeps (fresh out of school) with a good degree and with a head on their shoulders. Competition is tough out there. Getting a good class of degree doesn't guarantee your meal ticket any more . You've got to go the extra mile. #JustBelieve |
