stepo707:Joe is saying, we can study on individual basis, each chapter, maybe per day or per week and then come here to discuss the chapter if there is something someone don't understand from the chapter being studied. We need each person to say specifically if you support chapter study on individual basis or we continue verse by verse. Thank you all. |
^^^ No women was mentioned in genealogy of first Adam, Gen. 5:1-32 meaning women are not considered as nobody then. When it comes to the second Adam, Christ, all kinds of people regardless of their background, gender, past and sins are included. Matthew account proves just that. God is the one who built and building this kingdom through Christ. |
Joagbaje:@ Everyone and Friends, I hope to pause here at this stage and allow suggestions from Joagbaje's idea. Let's all contribute please. All need to combine efforts together to do this great project. We need contributions please and we go by most voted idea or suggestions. Thank you all |
Verse 4-5: Ram begot Amminadab, Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon. Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, Rahab was a prostitute in Jericho (Josh. 2:1), a place cursed by God for eternity (Josh. 6:26). After she turned to God and God's people (Josh. 6:22-23, 25; Heb. 11:31) and married Salmon, a leader of Judah, the leading tribe (1 Chron. 2:10-11), she brought forth Boaz, a godly man, out of whom Christ came. Regardless of our background, if we turn to God and His people by repentance and are joined to the proper person among God's people, we will bring forth proper fruit and participate in the enjoyment of the birthright of Christ. This is what means to generate Christ. God is counting on you as you study this with us. Boaz redeemed his kinsman's inheritance and married the man's widow (Ruth 4:1-17). By so doing he became a notable forefather of Christ, a great associate of Christ. The origin of Ruth was incest, for she belonged to the tribe of Moab (Ruth 1:4), the fruit of Lot's incestuous union with his daughter (Gen. 19:30-38). Deuteronomy 23:3 forbade the Moabites to enter the assembly of Jehovah, even to the tenth generation. Ruth, however, not only was accepted by the Lord but also became one of the most important ancestors of Christ because she sought God and God's people (Ruth 1:15-17; 2:11-12). Regardless of who we are and what our background is, as long as we have a heart that seeks God and His people, we are in a position to be accepted into the birthright of Christ. Boaz's mother, Rahab, was a Canaanites and a prostitute, and his wife, Ruth, was a Moabites of incestuous origin and a widow. Both were Gentiles and of low class, yet they are associated with Christ. Christ is joined not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles, even to those of low estate. Isaiah 11:1 prophesied that Christ would be "a twig (literally) out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch , out of his roots." Christ came out of Jesse. However, Isa. 11:10 says that Christ is the root of Jesse, indicating that Jesse came out of Christ. Jesse was one who brought forth Christ, one who branched out Christ by being rooted in Christ. |
^^^ Ok, Let's all come together and make conclusions then. However, I have done studies in depth. I was going to allow questions and answer for disccusion after verse 4-5. |
Verse 3: Judah begot Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram. Pharez and Zarah were twins. At the time of delivery Zarah put out his hand, and the midwife marked it with a scarlet thread, indicating that he would be the firstborn. However, Pharez preceded him to be the firstborn (Gen. 38:27-30). Pharez was not chosen by man but was chosen by God, proving that it was not by man's choice but by God's. In the genealogy of Adam no woman is recorded (Gen. 5:1-32), but in this genealogy of Christ five women are mentioned. Only one of these five was a chaste virgin — Mary, a descendant of the chosen race. Of her, Christ was directly born (v. 16). Among the rest — Tamar, Rahab, Ruth (v. 5), and Bathsheba, who had been the wife of Uriah (v. 6) — some were Gentiles, some were remarried, and three were even sinful — Tamar committed incest, Rahab was a prostitute, and Bathsheba committed adultery. This indicates that Christ is related not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles, even to the sinful people, and is the kingly Savior of typical sinners. Tamar was Judah's daughter-in-law. Judah begot Pharez and Zarah of her by incest (Gen. 38:6-30). What an evil! The kingdom of God is made up of people who are taken out of the world, full of worldliness, who are sinful with all kinds of sins, chosen and converted into the kingdom of God. This is the beauty of the genealogy of Christ. Those who reproduced are reproducing and will reproduce Jesus Christ here on earth. Friends, it doesn’t matter your sins in the past, now or future, you can come to the kingdom of God by allowing Jesus to manifest in you and through you. This is not neither to justify our sins in the present and future nor continue in sin but our God’s kingdom is made off imperfect people not saints. |
Verse 2: Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers. Abraham begot eight sons (Gen. 16:15; 21:2-3; 25:2). Among those eight, only Isaac is counted as the promised seed (Rom. 9:7- . Hence, Christ is his descendant to fulfill God's promise given to Abraham and to him (Gen. 22:18; 26:4). Isaac begot twin sons, Esau and Jacob (Gen. 25:21-26), but only Jacob was chosen by God (Rom. 9:10-13). Hence, Christ is his descendant to fulfill God's promise given to Abraham, to Isaac, and to him (Gen. 22:18; 26:4; 28:14). The birthright of the promised seed consists of the double portion of the land, the priesthood, and the kingship. Reuben, as the firstborn son of Jacob, should have inherited the birthright. But because of his defilement he lost the birthright (Gen. 49:3-4; 1 Chron. 5:1-2). The double portion of the land went to Joseph through his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim (Josh. 16--17); the priesthood went to Levi (Deut. 33:8-10); and the kingship was given to Judah (Gen. 49:10; 1 Chron. 5:2). Hence, Christ, the King of God's kingdom, is a descendant of Judah (Heb. 7:14); as such, He inherits the kingdom. Neither the brothers of Isaac nor the brother of Jacob, but only the brothers of Judah, are mentioned in this genealogy, because only Judah's brothers were chosen by God. |
Verse 1: The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: There are only two places in the entire bible where you find the phrase, “The book of the genealogy of”. Here in Matt 1:1 and Genesis 5:1. There is something unique about these two verses in common. Matthew shows or proved to us that Jesus is the central message of the New Testament while Genesis 5:1 shows the genealogy of Adam. Genesis shows of the first Adam while Matthew reveals the second Adam. The first Adam was a created race from the dust, the second Adam, Christ is a begotten man from heaven. Reference: 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, 45-48. The word genealogy is the study of one's ancestors: parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on back through history to the present age or generation of a particular person. Genealogy speaks from the past into the “NOW”. Hence we can say genealogy is past-present and continuous. It is in the natural to them and it is also to us spiritual as given in 1 Cor. 15:45-46. It means people that produced Jesus in the natural then and people that will produce Jesus in the spirit now. Many people do not see anything meaningful in this book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ except for just list of names. The revelation here in genealogy is that, it is in the past, present and continuous tense. A people that produced Jesus in the natural. A people that is producing and that will produce Jesus Christ in the spiritual. The name Jesus means Saviour and Christ is the title meaning the Anointed One. The son of David, the son of Abraham: This phrase is also strange, powerful and full of revelation. In my entire life, I never see a man with two natural fathers but the phrase says, "the son of David, the son of Abraham" It simply means Jesus came from the lineage of David and Abraham. Another thing here is Abraham lived before David but this phrase says, son of David first. Abraham is a “called” race while David is “chosen” race which made him king in Israel. When the phrase says, son of David it meant to proof Jesus as a King of the Jews or King of the chosen race. Again, we all know that David did not give birth directly to Jesus neither did Abraham but the phrase says, “Son of David, son of Abraham”. It was Solomon that David gave birth to directly and it was Isaac that Abraham gave birth to directly. This reveals to us that both Solomon and Isaac are “type” of Jesus Christ when we interpret the phrase. Solomon is a type of Christ as the son of David, the One who inherits the throne and kingdom of David (2 Sam. 7:12-13; Luke 1:32-33). Solomon, as a type of Christ, did mainly two things: he built the temple of God in the kingdom (1 Kings 6:2) and spoke the word of wisdom (1 Kings 10:23-24; Matt. 12:42). Christ, in fulfilling this type, is now building the real temple of God, believers and the church, in the kingdom of God and has spoken the word of wisdom. Isaac is a type of Christ as the son of Abraham, the One who inherits the promise and blessing God gave to Abraham (Gen. 22:17-18; Gal. 3:16, 14). Isaac also, as a type of Christ, did mainly two things: he obeyed his father even unto death and was resurrected from death (Gen. 22:9-10; Heb. 11:19), and he took Rebekah, a Gentile woman, as his wife (Gen. 24:61-67). Christ, in fulfilling this type, was put to death and offered to God and was resurrected from death, and He is taking the church as His bride out of the Gentiles or the world. |
@ Everyone, I will be quoting from New King James Version of bible translation and will use other translations if necessary. Thank y'all. |
The Genealogy of Jesus Christ. Cross reference: Matthew 1:1-17; Luke 3:23-38 Introduction The Bible is a book of life, and this life is a living person, the wonderful and Christ. The Old Testament gives a portrait, in types, shadows and prophecies, of this wonderful person as the Coming One. Now, in the New Testament, this wonderful person has come. The first page of the New Testament, in recommending this wonderful person to us, gives us His genealogy. This genealogy can be considered an abstract of the Old Testament, which in itself is the detailed genealogy of Christ. To understand the genealogy in Matthew, we need to trace the origin and history of every incident. Christ, as the wonderful center of the entire Bible, is all-inclusive, having many aspects. The New Testament at its beginning presents four biographies to portray the four main aspects of Christ. The Gospel of Matthew testifies that He is the King, the Christ of God prophesied in the Old Testament, who brings the kingdom of the heavens to the earth. The Gospel of Mark tells us that He is the Servant of God, laboring for God faithfully. Mark's account is most simple, for a servant does not warrant a detailed record. The Gospel of Luke presents a full picture of Him as the only proper and normal man who ever lived on this earth; as such a man, He is the Savior of mankind – the created race. The Gospel of John unveils Him as the Son of God, the very God Himself, who is life to God's people. Among the four Gospels, Matthew and Luke have a record of genealogy; Mark and John do not. To testify that Jesus is the King, the Christ of God prophesied in the Old Testament, Matthew needs to show us the antecedents and status of this King, to prove that He is the proper successor to the throne of David. To prove that Jesus is a proper and normal man, Luke needs to show the generations of this man, to attest that He is qualified to be the Savior of mankind – created race. For the record of a servant, Mark does not need to tell us His origin. To unveil that Jesus is the very God, neither does John need to give us His human genealogy; rather, he declares that, as the Word of God, He is the very God in the beginning. The kingdom, of which Christ is the King, is composed of Abraham's descendants, including both his descendants in the flesh (body) and those in faith (spirit). Hence, the genealogy of Christ in Matthew begins with Abraham, the father of the “called” race, not with Adam, the father of the “created” race. God's kingdom is not built with the created race of Adam because Adam already fell but with the called race of Abraham, which includes both the real Israelites (Rom. 9:6- and the believers in Christ (Gal. 3:7, 9, 29). To prove by relating His genealogy that Jesus is a proper man qualified to be the Savior of mankind, Luke traces His genealogy back to Adam, the first generation of mankind as the created race. In the genealogy of Jesus given by Luke, which proves that He is a proper man, the title Christ is not mentioned (Luke 3:23-38). But in the genealogy of Christ given here by Matthew, which proves that He is the King, the Christ of God, the title Christ is emphasized repeatedly (Matt 1:1, 16-17). |
Happy birthday to NL and all members, esp to my Christian brothers, sisters and travel section. God bless y'all. |
buzugee:Hey! for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, [there is the] bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Heb. 7:19, NKJV |
buzugee: goshen360:Basically, we are saying the same in different understanding. Very clear now my brother. Let's move on. |
buzugee:My brother, don't combine the laws of the land with the laws of the bible in the era of law of Moses. For the law was given through Moses, [but] grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17, NKJV. Everybody knows we are to obey the laws of the land as Christians. We are talking about the Laws in the era of Moses here not the laws of the land we reside now in this present time. I don't know maybe our view of the Law differs and that's why we are doing this bible studies. I agree with you when it comes to obeying the laws of the land we reside but not the laws of Moses anymore, because it's being done away with and fulfilled by Christ. |
@ buzugee and mkmyers45 My understand is, Jesus summed all the Laws together into two: Matt 22:35-40, NKJV Then one of them, a lawyer (An expert in the Law), asked [Him a question], testing Him, and saying, "Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' "This is [the] first and great commandment. "And [the] second [is] like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Love the Lord your God and Love your neighbour as Yourself. On this hang the Prophets and the law. What this means is, when you love God, you will simply not break all other laws. How many of the laws can we even remember? When we love God in our heart, we will not think of rebelling against the commandments of God in His word. Secondly, when we Love our neighbours as Ourselves, we will not do evil or harm them. Nobody hates his/her own self. If you can't killl yourself because you love yourself, you won't think of killing your neighbours. This is my understanding. Except I will learn new things from you guys. Am open minded and this is the reason for bible studies. for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, [there is the] bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. Heb. 7:19, NKJV |
^^^ The words I have quoted are from the bible. I didn't quote if from my own head as you can see. Are we not called after Christ today? as in being called Christians, Acts 11:26. Heb 8:13 NKJV, In that He says, "A new [covenant]," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Consider since the time this statement was made till now, we no longer practice animal sacrifices and all those stuffs in the old, do we? The Laws of Moses had their penalties for not doing them. Because we do not observe them anymore, we are not bounded by them and the penalties attached to them. Remember, a woman was caught in the very act of adultery and the Law of Moses says she must be stoned to death. This is not to justify adultery but the soul of an adulterer is more important to God under the new testament because God does no longer desire that any should perish but that we come to repentance. One of the Purpose of the Law is to train God's people towards obedience to God, It doesn't make us perfect. The Lord is not slack concerning [His] promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9, NKJV |
Bwoodlt:Good encouragement. |
mkmyers45:Yes. There will be fight, arguments but we are all mature and can explain issues with biblical proofs. The most widely explanations will be accepted after we all reason together through whatever explanations given and available. Yes exactly, doctrines and false teaching will be corrected. The thread and studies has started already |
Hebrews 1:1-3 NKJV 1. God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2. has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3. who being the brightness of [His] glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, The Bible is God speaking to man. It is the mind of our creator, God speaking his mind to us in our fellowship with him, which is one of the main reason why man was created. God wanted a family, so he created a man. Looking at the bible in general or in context, the bible is divided into three (3) different ages of time. Below are the divisions: 1. The Father or Patriarch Age: Genesis to Exodus 19. This age and period existed from Genesis to exodus 19, where the children of Israel was free from Egyptian slavery and the nation of Israel formed and then the Law was given to them. This Age and period is also known or called the pre-law age. During this time, God spoke to man through fathers or patriarchs of each family and sometimes through angels in order to communicate God's will, testament or covenant. A testament simply means, a will, contract, an agreement or a covenant which God established with/for man. The Old testament Laws were for people who lived before and during Christ. The new testament Laws of Christ are for all of us who came after the death of Christ. The cross divided the old and new testament. Therefore, the bible as it regards to old testament is not a set of book from Genesis to Malachi but rather Exodus 20 to Gospel of John in context. 2. The Israelites or Jewish Age. Exodus 20 - Death of Christ. God in his covenant (testament) with the seed of Abraham could not establish His will or testament with the children of Israel when they are in bondage or ruler ship of Pharaoh in Egypt. God had to first bring them out first to fulfill His covenant or agreement he made with Abraham. Exodus 20 accomplished that purpose and the nation of Israel was established. During this period, many things took place such as, the law was given, God appointed Prophets, Kings, Judges, etc hence we have books of the bible such as the prophets, kings, wisdom books etc. Christ was born under the law or this Jewish age and lived under the law. During this time of Christ living under the law, Christ was also establishing the new law which will take effect after His death and will thereafter be called the new testament. "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35, NKJV. Hence we see that the new commandment or new testament is based on the message of LOVE. This love can then be interpreted or spread into many topics but the central message of Christ to us is LOVE. 3. The Christian Age. Acts of the Apostles to Revelation. This is the third age and time. It is named after Christ. It is the last and final age. This is the age and times we are today and will continue till the return of Christ. In this current age, there is a kingdom life. The kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven. We will get there as we progress. Biblically and speaking the truth, we do not have anything to do with the laws and pre-law EXCEPT for things such as faith, love and obedience as it is also found in the our new commandment/testament. 1 Cor. 10:11 says, These things happened to them (the Israelites) as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. [/b]Heb. 10:1, NKJV [b]By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. Heb 8:13. For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. Heb 9:15-17. and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. Acts 11: 26 HOWEVER, THE ABOVE DOES NOT MEAN WE SHOULD NOT READ THE OLD TESTAMENT ANYMORE. THE OLD TESTAMENT HAS MANY ADVANTAGES OF READING IT AS IT GIVES US BACKGROUND AND INSIGHT TO THE NEW TESTAMENT BUT WE ARE NOT BOUND BY IT'S LAWS AND PENALTIES ANYMORE. |
Thanks. You are welcome sir |
You have also joined. If we have up to ten people, it can work. Imagine ten people putting bible explanations together. I know some people have not seen this thread, probably because it's weekend. I am sure it will work say if we have at least ten people or more. Like I said in my opening statement, I cannot do it alone considering the fact that I might be busy later in few months to come. However, i don't want the project to stop if am not around or consistent. That's my point sir. |
Ok sir, Let me pull up some stuffs and we get started into the new testament. Will start soon. |
Let's kick it started anyway. It might take years as i foresee in my heart but we would have done a good job in the end. Gradually, people will join. Also, bear in mind, some people will just be reading to learn and might not be a teacher of the word. |
1 Cor. 13:8-11 8. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10. but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. The gift of the Spirit was given to the early church to validate and proof the truth of their teachings. The gift of the Spirit itself doesn't give salvation to man. It will only be a childish christian running after gifts of the spirit rather than the word of God. The bible is not complete during the early christian days. That's why Paul said, we know (gift of knowledge) in part and we prophesy (gift of prophesy) in part. This is because the word of God, the bible was still in pieces then. When this parts are then put all together, which makes the bible a complete or perfect, the parts disappeared. The complete bible had replaced all these gifts of the spirit. The bible reveals all prophecies of the past, present and future. There is no and will not be any new prophecies and revelations to man other than what is revealed in the bible. "Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Acts 20:32 |
I have been thinking about this lately. The project is huge and time consuming but I came up with an idea that we (each one of us) can pull resources and knowledge together explaining, disagreeing and agreeing on our differences on bible explanation based on the most accepted explanation and truth here. Verse by Verse being explained or couple of verses put together and explained, then chapter by chapter. We can do this together instead of doing out thing separately. It will be amazing how we will move faster than expected. I cannot do this project alone by myself considering the fact that, I might not be stable after some times. Hence, I decided to open it up to every bible teacher here on this forum. We can set the motion and any bible teacher here can go ahead teaching the truth. Questions can the directed to a teacher and anyone can answer with bible verses to back up his or her answers. In other words, I do not have the final teachings here. It is open to all bible teachers but we MUST go line by line, verse(s) by verse(s) and chapter by chapter. References can be made to old or new testament verses to explain a current verse being explained. We can really progress and expose a lot of false teachings going on today in the body of Christ and spread sound biblical truth we learn here. I suggest we start with the New Testament. My reason is, the new testament is the old fulfilled. We can read the Old testament on our different level of studies in order to have a background to the new testament to share our thought and biblical truth here in relation to the new testament. Friends, what do you think? |
FXKing2012:Hey, be careful bro. My sister, Nati is NOT interested. @ Nati, or are you interested? Yeah, I have a feeling also that Nati's "Reed" had being bruised by religion and religious people. Only God, through the power of the Holy Ghost can amend bruised reed but I think she will pick up as she sees some of us young people raising the standard of the true word of God. @ Nati, Please don't give up on your fellowship with your creator. God is on your side. |
Dereformer:And Jesus was SILENT OR DID NOT TEACH TITHE TO HIS DISCIPLES. People cannot just understand simple biblical truth. |
I hope to pour out some revelation and bible truth on this kind of subject soon. Give me an hour cos am replying from my fone now. Thanks guys. |
The Beautiful Bride by Muyiwa Oguntoyinbo. A Nigeria pastor residing in Dublin, Ireland. The book exposed all the falsehood in the church and body of Christ. |
Great job bro. Just saying hi. |
