Tyre's Destruction (Ezekiel 26:3-5, 14):
Ezekiel prophesied Tyre's destruction, specifying that it would be invaded, its walls breached, and its stones scattered. In 586 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar conquered Tyre, and later, Alexander the Great destroyed the city and did exactly what the scriptures foretold without knowing what he was doing.

Fulfilled prophecies over nations serve as powerful evidence for:

These prophecies serve to illustrate that the God who determined the future of these nations is indeed the Creator of the world. His word has come to pass exactly as foretold.

1. The Eternal Destruction of Assyria

Prophecy:
Assyria, a dominant empire of the ancient world, was prophesied to face total destruction, with its capital, Nineveh, reduced to ruins and the land scraped bare.

Key Scripture:

Micah 5:6 - "They will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword... He will deliver us from the Assyrian when he invades our land."

Nahum 3:17-19- "Your guards are like the locusts... Your shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; your nobles lie down. Your people are scattered on the mountains with no one to gather them."

Zephaniah 2:13 - "He will stretch out His hand against the north and destroy Assyria, making Nineveh a desolation, dry as the desert."

Micah’s prophecy (around 700 B.C.) foretold the fall of Assyria, culminating in 612 B.C. when the Babylonians and Medes invaded and completely destroyed Nineveh.

Historical accounts detail how the invading army not only destroyed the city but also stripped the land of its resources—cutting down timber and scraping soil to use for building fortifications elsewhere. This is confirmed in Zephaniah 2:13, which emphasizes the complete desolation of Assyria.

Archaeological findings have supported this narrative. The ruins of Nineveh lie buried under layers of earth, with evidence of destruction evident in the remnants of the once-thriving city. The Tigris River’s floods further eroded parts of Nineveh, symbolizing the literal "scraping" of the land as foretold in Scripture. Today, the site of Nineveh remains uninhabited, with no trace of the once-great empire of Assyria, just as the Bible foretold. God did exactly as He said He'll do against Assyria.

Fulfillment: About 50 years after Micah’s prophecy, Nineveh was destroyed, and Assyria has remained desolate for over 2,600 years.

2. The Destruction of Babylon

Prophecy:
Babylon, the jewel of ancient kingdoms, was prophesied to fall and become a wasteland inhabited by wild animals, including jackals and owls. God said that Babylon would never be rebuilt again.

Key Scripture:

Isaiah 13:19-22 "Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah... Owls will dwell there and wild goats will leap about."

Jeremiah 51:26 - "No rock will be taken from you for a cornerstone, nor any stone for a foundation, for you will be desolate forever."

Isaiah's prophecy (around 700 B.C.) foretold Babylon’s destruction, predicting that it would become desolate. In 539 B.C., the city was captured by the Persians under Cyrus the Great. However, the prophecy about Babylon’s complete desolation became fully fulfilled around 100AD.

Attempts to rebuild Babylon began shortly after its fall, with notable efforts by Alexander the Great in 331 B.C. His plans were thwarted by his untimely death. The most ambitious attempt came in the late 20th century when Saddam Hussein sought to rebuild Babylon.
