Politics › Re: Obiora-profile Of Another CBN Deputy Gov Overlooked For A Mechanical Engineer by Gr8amechi: 8:54am On Jun 10, 2023 |
Devil1Messenger: Dr. Kingsley Obiora resumed as a Deputy Governor in the Central Bank of Nigeria on 02 March, 2020. Prior to this, he was an Alternate Executive Director in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, USA. In this capacity, he was a member of the Executive Board, collectively responsible for conducting the daily operations of the IMF. He also assisted to represent the interests of 23 African Countries, including Nigeria, at the Board.
He first joined the IMF through the globally-competitive “Economist Program” in 2007 and worked in both the European Department as well as the Strategy, Policy and Review Department, whilst carrying out extensive work on exchange rate assessment, debt sustainability analyses, decoupling and spillovers, real sector analyses, as well as several reviews of Financial Sector Assessments. Prior to this, Dr. Obiora worked at the West African Monetary Institute in Accra, Ghana and the Centre for Econometric and Allied Research at the University of Ibadan.
While on secondment from the IMF, Dr. Obiora simultaneously served as Technical Adviser to the Nigeria’s National Economic Management Team as well as Special Assistant to the President Jonathan’s Chief Economic Adviser from October 2011 to May 2014. During this time, he played key roles in helping shape the country’s economic policies on several fronts, including on energy subsidies, power sector reform, measurement of job creation, architecture of development financing, diversification of the economy, oil price benchmarking in the budgetary process, regulatory framework for doing business, port reform, and asset-based economic mapping and modeling.
From June 2014 until July 2018, Dr. Obiora served as Special Adviser on Economic Matters to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). During this role, he contributed to the overall analytical and policy work of the CBN, bringing his extensive international and domestic economic experiences to bear in helping the Bank understand the ramifications of, and deal with spillovers from, the external shocks emanating from the significant drop in global oil prices. Dr. Obiora has a first degree from the University of Benin as well as Masters and Doctorate degrees in Economics from the University of Ibadan.
Tinubu overlooked this man(an economist, that have even held a top office in IMF) and Aisha Ahmad(a financial expert) to appoint a director of operations that is a mechanical engineer as CBN governor
Pure tribalism It's saddened how some of you youths behave and react. The most senior is Aisha and not even Obiora. The person was appointed to hold the place as the most senior because Emefiele was suspended. All the four deputy governor are going down. A neutral person will be brought in. Emefiele recruiter the 4 deputy governors and even this Obiora doesn't look to have what is needed. The current Acting governor has an MBA, has over 30 years banking experience and has grown in banking, go and check his CV. Nigerians must stop all these rubbish to grow. That said, Nigeria needs a neutral Economist to come and sanitize the system, someone in CBN is part of the system, all the directors and governors must go |

SpatialKing: You are justifying rubbish
We have over 43 ministers, with 20 SAs and over 21 PS
When do we actually experience the Civil transformation we so desire Same old fools Same old pattern Same old ways I think your argument is flawed, Tinubu didn't appoint any minister yet. Constitutionally he is mandated to appoint 36 ministers from each of the states plus FCT. Also he has power to appoint a maximum of 25 SA. Now note also that the designation of these positions differs, an SSA is equivalent to a minister in many ways. Further, how many major sectors do we have in the economy? 20 SA isn't too big, the issue is they shouldn't be just media aide, if these aides are deployed to critical areas like tech, investment, mining, health security etc and he grants them unlimited access and listens to them, then it gives a great opportunity as those ministers will not be superly powerful as the president will have other opinions and not just those of the ministers. |

meum: But GEJ didn’t have Abi? GEJ put measures in place before the proposed subsidy removal yet those in power today convened at Ojota to fight the same thing they rushed to implement. The difference is clear!
I am not against subsidy removal. I feel it was rushed. All in an attempt to appear presidential on Inauguration Day & may be deliver on an election promise I guess.
I believe a good leader is proactive rather than reactive. Measures should have been put in place to cushion the effect(s) of the removal. Whatever solution he has should have been in place at least to a certain level(while Nigerians await full implementation) before the announcement of the removal by end of June as planned for by the outgone administration. I believe government is a continuum much more one that is of course he same party. You guys are funny, GEJ and Tinubu put nothing on ground before the removal. Did GEJ increase wages? All he did was SURE-P which was another great fraud. The only thing that can cushion effects of subsidy removal includes: 1. Functional refineries more than one and give out license to import to multiple importers, this will float the market with products and create competition, also you disband association for importers. 2. Roll out a transportation master plan, where you revamp our current transportation system phasing out those dead buses and trucks and bringing in PPP where state and fg own 40% and private investors has 60%. This will cushion the effect of subsidy removal on transportation and prevent rises in cost of food and overall prevent hyperinflation. 3. Improve on electricity and reduce duties on solar energy, further provide incentives for people willing to adopt solar energy, this will reduce the pressure on the national grid and also on petrol. The truth is Nigeria is likened to a petrol economy majority of our Small and medium scale enterprises depends heavily on petrol. Our transportation system is not organised so any increases in petrol in the name of subsidy will have ripple effects. Both GEJ and Tinubu flopped. What we need is efficiency not this very approach, subsidy removal require years of careful planning and infrastructure implementation. Anything else is a mere knee-jerk reqction and it's not going to have any different effect. |

optm: the question is who are the people being given these forex to by the cbn? The average nigerian doesn't get forex from cbn. You cannot give the wrong people forex and now giving the excuse that they sell the dollars to merchants at the black market to devalue naira and not considering the impact it would be having on the economy. This is the exact point I am making, CBN allowing the naira to float reduces those restrictions. |
Politics › Re: Wike, Ibori, Makinde In Closed Door Meeting With Tinubu(picture) by Gr8amechi: 3:43pm On Jun 03, 2023 |
optm: the major problem i think cbn is facing as regards this, is not having dollars. Floating dollars to compete against black market vs inflation from naira devaluation, which should be concerning as regards impact on economy? CBN provides majority of the forex whether it is official or black market. What we have is the CBN sells out huge amounts to a few people at official rate this makes the amount available for eveyone to be reduced. Also CBN having a very low official rate discourages individuals who source their forex from selling officially. So if we have sincerity of purpose, CBN can float the naira and stop defending it but allow the market forces to decide its value. Also the Fg can take a step further by encouraging local substitute in diverse ways as well as making tax waivers and other incentives. |
Politics › Re: Wike, Ibori, Makinde In Closed Door Meeting With Tinubu(picture) by Gr8amechi: 6:28am On Jun 03, 2023 |
optm: at your first point, the black market wouldn't have been an option to importers in the first place if the dollars were available at cbn. To your other point, even with the devaluation, black market still trades at a higher rate in exchange for naira. I really do not see how this would make private players release their dols to cbn. In anyway you want to analyze it, it is catastrophic to the economy Not really the point, the true value of naira is not that our official rate, recently CBN released that they have spent over 2.4 trillion as subsidy to defend the naira which doesn't make economic sense. CBN sell at official rate to only a few elites and these elites create the black market. CBN can eliminate the black market by making the dollar to float, that's the aim. When the dollar floats, you wouldn't have double exchange anymore |

Goodman2023: Black market rate will drop as bureau de change operators will turn to charitable organizations overnight abi ?
They will no longer exchange for profit because their reward is in heaven...
Let me educate your ass. CBN devalued naira from 461.6 to 631... meaning one dollar equals 631.
I will give you the simplest example that even those with fish brains can understand.
It is already a known fact that nigeria imports more than 70% of what she consumes.
Imagine an importer who imports 100 units of an item for 10,000 dollars. That means the importer pays 4,616,000 naira (461.6*10,000=4,616,000) for 100 units of that item.
With devaluation of the naira to 631, that same importer will pay 6,310,000 (631*10,000=6,310,000) to import the same 100 units of that item.
And you expect the importer to sell at the old price ?
The bottom line is that the importer will pay more naira for a dollar, and the final consumer will pay more naira to purchase that item from the importer. Don't forget that salaries still remain the same, even the so-called minimum wage cannot full my fuel thank.
These are some of the items nigeria imports:
Steel
Textile
Plastics
Cereal
Glass
Metal
Fertilizer
Cotton
Silk
Cork
Sugar
Wheat
Woven fabric
Motorcycle
Copper
Electronics
Nickel
Petroleum
Iron
Some of you have been blinded by religion, ethnicity and tribe so I don't expect my analysis to make sense to your already dead sentimental brain Your analysis is perfect but it fell short of something. That official rate is an imaginary rate that is only available for a very few elites. Most importers currently buy dollars at more than 700 naira. If the CBN allows the Naira to float, it means importer's have no need to go and buy forex in black market because CBN wouldn't be selling at official rates to elites who then will sell to the black market. Also it will encourage private players to bring in their dollars and officially change in bank as they would make money |

This days, I don't feel attracted to her sexually anymore. I have never cheated on her but this days, the thought of doing so is gradually creeping in. Have tried talking to her about this but no change. I don't want to start what extra marital affair but am tempted to.
I need your advise guys. Don't spoil your dignity, rather than have extramarital affairs, speak with her if no change then divorce her. She might have left the marriage a long time ago. But don't spoil your dignity by cheating, the honourable thing to do is seek divorce and have your space. |

Neweramify: MY EXPERIENCE AS INEC AD-HOC STAFF IN ENUGU NORTH LGA
I'm currently a Corp member (NYSC) serving in Enugu North LGA, we were used for the 2023 presidential election at Enugu North LGA. We had three days training before the election date. During the training, we were told provision would be made for our transportation and feeding, but we are yet to receive anything.
We were told to be present at INEC office a day before the election and that we will be sleeping at our collation center which didn't happen. We all ended up sleeping at the INEC office.
We never knew we will be sleeping in an open air, without a roof over our head and on a MAT.
Neither did we know we will be visited by a Snake, BIG rats, spiders, BIG black ants, etc while sleeping. We almost got bitten by a snake but God safed us.
it all happened without any medical personal on ground.
Provision wasn't made for food, not even a sachet water. we went through all this without getting 5 naira from INEC.
On the day of the presidential election, there wasn't enough vehicles to convey us to our polling unit. Some of us got to our polling unit by 1pm, 2pm etc and almost got beaten by the angry voters who had waited for so long to cast their vote, thank God for the Reverend father who intervened on our behalf. I'm grateful to God for a peaceful conduct in my polling unit.
After election, our buses came to pick us back to INEC office for submission of election materials.
Arriving INEC office, The INEC officials refused to collect the election materials from us. We were asked to spend another night in their office (without food and water). Some of my colleagues disagreed with them, begged them to get the materials so that they can go back to their destination which they refused.
A Corp member said to one of the officials,
i quote "please sir, why is INEC treating us like animals"
How did they expect us to return from our polling unit, with all the stress we went through at the polling unit, standing all day without food & water yet expect us to spend another night here without making any provisions for us. Not even the training/feeding allowance was given to us.
We had no option than to sleep just to secure the materials given to us since the INEC officials refused to collect the election materials that night.
I told God, if I survive this night, I will never do INEC work again. I was so hungry, tired and stressed out, I had just 200 naira with me which was supposed to be my transport (remember it's hard to get cash in Nigeria). How I survived till morning being Sunday 26 February 2023 is still a miracle. This incident made me conclude that hunger doesn't kill.
As early as 5am on the 26 February, INEC officials started collecting the election materials while checking if everything was complete in the BVAS box given to us.
In conclusion, I want to appeal to you all to help us beg INEC officials in Enugu North LGA, Enugu, to please pay the Corp members they used to carry out the election and all the INEC AD-HOC STAFF here in Enugu North.
Let it be known that we the Corp members at Enugu North LGA are not going to participate in the Governorship election if we don't receive our allowances for the presidential election. Thank You.
The president Corp members affair (NYSC) ENUGU NORTH LGA. 13/03/2023

Getting Wole Olanipekun is an evidence that Tinubu is serious about ensuring the mandate is not taken from him. Must have looked at the evidences available, and assessed that such evidences are strong enough to serve as a basis to withdraw the certificate of return.
But Tinubu and his cohorts are smart enough not to rely on a naive tribunal or judiciary. They know many of the judges are naive, if not mostly interested in their own advantages. That’s what Buhari has imposed on the country. -A government of incompetence lots, up to the level of the Supreme Court justices.
Yet, Tinubu knows, they are perhaps so cheap. Those that are unbending to corruption or their past or to the desire of their future, are otherwise cheap on intellectual rigor, which Wole Olanipekun is to exercise.
Wole Olanipekun is a senior advocate of Nigeria, yet he has never advocated for Nigeria. His reputation is on defending the country’s detractors. His eloquence will not serve Nigeria this time. He does not desire the applause of the public or the admiration of the masses; what is to be done with those? A fate like Gani fawehinmi?
Until, there is an incentive for our brightest mind to serve the nation and the nation’s interest, Nigeria will be ‘compassed’ or ‘captained’ by those interested in its loot. They work behind to ensure, the nation parastatals don’t have the best manpower available. They sponsor back door recruitment for the agencies because they know, that with their incompetent stooges, they have got much chance at playing the system. The foreign community is also particular about its interest, it will recruit all of our best minds, so there is none left to defend the nation: in the end, is it not all our aspiration to be the next Wole? Or the next person to travel abroad and use our talents for another nation?
And so, until, there is an incentive for our brightest mind to serve the nation and the nation’s interest, Nigeria will be ‘compassed’ or ‘captained’ by those interested in its loot and sadly, they will recruit our best minds to ensure their rein is sustained. Your submissions as so aptly placed... I hope we get to work together. |

This only happens when I pass stool, I have visited several Hospitals FMC (GOMBE) SPECIALIST (GOMBE) then moved to abuja GENERAL (KUBWA) and private (KELINA & PRIMUS) . did urine/stool test yet they would say they spot Nothing. At both FMC,SPECIALIST,GENERAL only to prescribe Antibiotics and other medications UTI/STD which I take and the symptoms stopped after some days it would comeback. I have spent more than I can account on this treatment yet it just won't go away. Our doctors here in Nigeria can’t explain the cause because some would say It's UTI others STD.
Note: even tho i am not Sexual active, I have never had sex with anyone before. in fact I am still a Virgin! Yes at 32.
The last hospital I went Was KELINA(A Turkish owned hospital, those in Abuja Gwarimpa would know it) I spent a huge amount over 130+ yet still after like 2 weeks this same issue is back. We were fed at least an average size of meal 3times daily. In some situation, there's are excess of food and we go for double ration. In very rare occasion food doesn't reach everybody. It can happen atmost 5times a term. As at then we were 44 in class (commercial class), while A class which is science had the most 55. Learning was easier and effective. Last year I visited the school and its been divided into 2 sessions. Morning and evening. The science class had about 100students. Learning is now more difficulty. Ask yourself why is it like this?
The school fees is less than 15k. More classes has been built compared to when I was there. But now the school is a shadow of it former self. If my father who had three boys and pays his task sent two of his three children to a Ssubsidized govt school, is it fair with mr Bongo (name was modified not to offend anyone) who has 17 children and manages to send 9 to the sane govt school.
Subsidy that's meant for us all. Only 1 man sent 9 children to benefit from.
If nobody talks about our ever increasing population with this our hate attitude of improving our personal productivity we would never get anywhere. Politicians would only try no matter how Good they are but it'll end in shabbles.
In the 90s there were less amount of Lea schools but then education was effective. Our leaders have increased the number of schools compared to the 90s but education is very ineffective. The leaders have fulfilled their campaign promises of building more schools but has the masses fulfilled its? Nigeria ain't China and we don't have as much brains as China, we better cut our coat to our sizes. To further add to your points, what are the successful old student of the school doing? Why do we not have the heart of giving? That school have produced enough people who can set up scholarship programs for the students and also send in subventions and interventions but we always want government to do everything. |

Kobonaire4: You miss the part where NNPC brings in fuel above N500 and sells it at N172 via depot price.
Chew on that. That's where the whole problem starts. Read it well, no place was it said that NNPCL bring in products for 500 naira, rather he said people bought at that rate from black market, also someone noted he bought black market at 700, read it again. The issue I noted here is how can NNPCL import products but not have where to store them? |

Kobonaire4: Not surprised...the subsidy cannot cover the losses being sustained in selling fuel that was brought in above N500 per liter.
So in short
1.NNPC depots no longer have fuel...simply because NNPC cannot sustain subsidising fuel below its production cost.
2. The independent marketers who own depots...are buying at a higher price than the N172 EX-Depot price...because NNPC cannot sustain subsidy price without losing too much money.
3.Independent marketers cannot sustain selling fuel at a loss..because they are buying fuel from independent depots above N200 if not more.
4.At the end scarcity results.
Therein lies the issue...subsidy cannot cover the difference between the cost price and the market price....which is why we are here.
Either government finds more money....or removes subsidy and ends the whole nonsense. You even got everything wrong. NNPCL is the sole importer, now they import but refuse to keep their depot running to store petrol, then sell these imported petrol to private people who have deport, now these private poepke who have depot are the ones to see to the private retail marketers just imagine how insane our government can be. Why not NNPCL selling directly to the private retail marketers ? |
