CareerRe: Is Begging Now A Profession? by gr8child(m): 11:21am On Nov 30, 2007
ono:
But, in retrospect, I think I'll live peaceably with these beggars than armed robbers.
Ono, the beggar kids you see on the streets may eventually grow up to be criminals and armed robbers, because they're already used to getting money without working for it. Where do you think area boys come from?

Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to the less privileged but they're turning begging into an institution. There's a beggar without any visible sign of disability who I've seen begging on the streets since she was a child and I was in secondary school. Over 14 years ago & she's now a grown woman still begging on the streets. Part of charity is helping people help themselves. Helping them empower themselves is a better alternative. We cannot continue to indulge able people who use the excuse that the country is hard. It's hard for everyone.
TV/MoviesRe: NBC Bans Airing Of Big Brother Africa (BBA) In Nigeria! by gr8child(m): 3:14pm On Nov 26, 2007
Arguments against the ban:

a. The show is rated 16 and the DSTV decoder has a parental control device, so, what's the problem. If match sticks are dangerous in the hands of children, you don't ban 'em, you move them to a safe place or warn your kids not to touch them or else.

b. If the Senators really want to stop exposing our kids to porn (properly so called), they might like to consider doing something about the guys selling 20 in 1 pornographic dvds on the streets. Methinks the kids have easier access to these dvds than even to porn on the internet.

c. We are not a nation full of children but a nation of both adults and children, so I don't see why I should be subjected to watching programmes fit only for children if children should not be subjected to watching programmes fit only for adults. And no, I don't want to watch family oriented programmes always either. As an adult I should be able to decide what I can handle and turn off the tv if I don't like what I see.

d. Personally, I think all this is just bad belle cos Ofuneka didn't win. Abi why did they wait for the show to be over before they started shouting. Everything that was to be seen, has been seen. grin

What's the mileage on the car.
Car TalkRe: Which One Is Faster Automatic Or Manual Gear Transmission? by gr8child(m): 3:43pm On Nov 23, 2007
Transmission time takes slightly longer in automatic cars. Manual transmission is quicker, hence greater speed. But the difference is so slight that it is only significant if you're racing professionally.

AutosIs It Possible Ot Get A 1994 Honda Accord For N600,000 by gr8child(op): 11:29am On Nov 22, 2007
Is it possible to get a '94 Honda Hala for 600k this December or January? Please respond. If not what's the next best alternative? Or better yet, is there a better alternative to the '94 accord @ that price? Viperman I understand you're the guy to talk to about this. huh
AutosRe: Do You Want To Pay For Your Car Installmentally?: Read This by gr8child(m): 10:35am On Nov 22, 2007
I checked out rosabon finance. I wasn't really helpful. It appeared to favour only "corporate organisations" seeking to "lease" cars temporarily.

BusinessRe: 300 Million Naira Mistakely Paid Into One's Account by gr8child(m): 11:56am On Jul 23, 2007
Oh. Well. In that case, I think its totally possible. A friend of mine dad's account @ NIB before it merged was credited with about N5m and they never brought it to the bank's attention. My friend's dad apparently is some hard nailed shrewd businessman who likes to take advantage of other people's mistakes. This was a couple of years before the mergers & to the best of my knowledge the Bank has not discovered the mistake.
NYSCRe: New NYSC Quota System: What Is Your Opinion? by gr8child(m): 11:28am On Jul 23, 2007
I think the entire thing has outlived it usefulness. It was formed to "bring Nigerians together" after the civil war. How far has this been achieved. People have served in states other than that of their origin and still have their prejudices intact. I was posted to Bayelsa before I redeployed to Lagos and I hated every minute of the experience. Accommodation was scarce and substandard. Although I'll admit that National service should involve a certain degree of sacrifice, I don't think it should involve a squalid existence. The stipend they pay is ridiculous and not enough to keep body and soul together. For instance a bicycle allowance of about a 100 bucks is given. huh

Okay, I have a solution. They say N129,472 is spent on each corper per year. Even if we can't be given the whole cash in case we "blow" it. Scrap NYSC and put each graduate's cash in a pension scheme (just brain storming here) to crystallise when we reach retirement or whatever.

Isn't funny how everyone is wondering whether the bank will catch them out if N300m is mistakenly paid into their account instead of saying they'd return it for not being theirs? huh Nobody should accuse our leaders of corruption again o!
