Ibime: That's the situation on the ground. They are very much wary of Soludo who they see as an elitist sob and another abominable PDP puppet. They way I see it, it is going be a battle between Ngige and Obi; they only two relevant contenders for the "throne''. The rest are just a bunch of inconsequential opportunists and irresponsible enthusiasts, running buck naked in the market square and dangling their wee-wee for the sole purpose of attracting attention. |

@Jackwriter, you shouldn't see every criticism as an attack. The critiques from other posters are in order and to be honest, they were very lenient which I believe stemmed from their familiarity with the field, knowing how grueling it feels after expending so much energy in your work and having it ripped to shreds. Always brace yourself for criticism (constructive and destructive) because they are inevitable. You will not get too far if you continue ward off the mildest criticism. All you have to do is listen, accept whatever you believe can enhance your skill and discard whatever you believe is irrelevant. In the case of mentor, we all need one, perhaps not always necessarily in the right sense of the world, but there is always someone that motivates and inspires us. When I was in elementary school, I was drawn to the works of comic book artists Dan Jurgens and Jerry Ordway. I loved their fluidity and yet intimidating stance of their art. That was when I was drawing comics without really knowing anything about comic books. I used their works to measure my progress as an illustrator and a comic book artist. Though I never intended to ''copy'' their style, my constant exposure to their style was evident when I developed my own unique style. Below are works by Jerry Ordway, Dan Jurgens and Grafikdon. . .

@plutonium, I have plans to complete at least the first season of Mark of Uru (6 more ''Awufu'' episodes left ), but at the moment, it is on hold for reasons I cannot disclose . Zikora is an animated feature to be released in 2010. The description on my website is misleading (meant for another feature). I will change it to reflect the real plot of Zikora) Grafikdon is in New York. . . |
Politics / Re: Imagine This:senator Laments Low Birth Rate Among Ndigbo by grafikdon: 11:35pm On Oct 07, 2009 |
Aloy`Emeka: That's a keen observation, but it goes both ways. A lot of them are not satisfied with only male children so they ''try'' for the princess. My parents never planned to have more than four children but the absence of a female child made that decision invalid. |

The senator is entitled to his opinion. However, he will have to do a lot more to to sell me the idea of having more than two children, because to me, the idea of having more than two children sends a chill up my spine. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Nigerians: We Are Racists! by grafikdon: 12:17pm On Sep 30, 2009 |
Kobojunkie: I was immensely embarrassed while watching a Nollywood film a few months ago. A father made a comment that clearly indicated his son who came back from "America" in search of a wife was a wise son because he didn't come home with oyibo woman. I knew I was watching an atrocious Nollymovie but Nigeria is fraught with such brazen display of racial antagonism. The worst part is MOST, if not all do not see is as such, to them it is similar to saying "hello" or "are you hungry". . .no harm done, no harm meant. However, I must fault the OP's "Nigerians are racists" blanket statement. A lot of Nigerians are more likely to exhibit the most disconcerting racial antagonism (which we gleefully mask as tribalism) towards fellow Nigerians than a foreigner. We all know (even though we try to deny it) that there is a tendency to suck up to ''oyibo'' in Nigeria, some out of inferiority complex , some out of harmless curiosity, while others to some extent suck up for financial aggrandizement. |
Food / Re: Just Doesn’t Taste Like Moi Moi! by grafikdon: 6:43pm On Sep 28, 2009 |
Potu this is going to be a bit lengthy but it is helpful. I am not sure I'd recommend "powdered beans". Why not use the real thing? Go to any African store and pick up the African black eyed peas, make sure it is either the big white peas with the small "black eye'' or the brown version. Stay away from the Mexican or the American black eyed peas if you don't want to spend a century getting the skin out. Those are good for good ol mamaput rise and beans. Back to the process; I know a lot of folks run away from moi moi or resort to "powder'' because of the hassles involved in taking off the skin. This hassle is reduced by using the "African pea". Pour the African peas right away in a bowl or whatever you want to use. Throw in some warm water and start ''massaging''. Do not soak it overnight (very unnecessary) and do not "grind'' the dry peas. Just pour 'em out and start massaging with warm water. You will get rid of the skin in less than 20 minutes. Put your blender to work. Don't just crack it, blend it very well. Here the tricky part. You will end up with a thick paste, depending on the amount of water you added while blending. Use the thick paste undiluted if you want to choke while eating your moi moi. But if you want to eat your food in peace and harmony, ''dilute the paste", it should be somewhere between thick and watery. Pour in some vegetable or corn oil (Don't overdo it, use your discretion), blend the big fat red non spicy pepper (the more the better, but use your discretion) add some "ingredients like" maggi or crafish. Note that crayfish is optional (too much can seriously alter the taste). Keep some boiled eggs handy, if you are an egg person. Wrap in plastic foils and drop them in a pot of boiling water. You have between 1/12 - 2 hrs to get the pot off the stove. Food is ready, enjoy with whatever catches your fancy. Like someone said, stay away from tomatoes, steaks, fish etc. . . these things immensely distort the taste of moi moi. Sure you can add them but bear in mind you are no longer ''moi moi". Trust me, moi moi doesn't need half of the ingredients that people dump inside it. |
