Christianity EtcRe: Why Did God Put The Tree Of Good And Evil In The Garden Of Eden? by Grassroot: 12:15am On Oct 10, 2011
Cine:
Not all religious people question evidence. A lot of the so called evidence is theoretical anyway, and not based on hard fact, which means it should be questioned. Any scientist will tell you that. Like the Big slam theory. On paper (mathematically) it works. But I don't think the theory includes the actual slam itself mind you. If I recall the theory begins a few seconds after the slam itself takes place. So it's a case of believing that something can come from nothing.

There's a school of thought that suggests we could be living inside a black hole and these so called Big Bangs occur all the time. Theoretical of course. But imagine the possibilities. A fact is, our universe is expanding exponentially. At the rate our human minds find it hard to comprehend. I love the idea that if the earth was the universe then we wouldn't even represent a single grain of sand. Makes me feel insignificant, don't know about you.
You need to know about something before you question it. I'm sure you dont know so much about evolution theories like big b-a-n-g. The work of the winner of the last nobel prize in physics is something you might like to read. Someone showed that the universe is expanding. Maybe very soon, this proven fact would realize telepathy. For all I care, science has done more good than religion. That I think is the problem with most theist (esp black ones). How can you condemn something that you have not taken time to consider? All you do is accept what your pastor tell you. Just keep believing. If you notice, most atheist are intellectuals. It's very likely that they have taken their time to consider both sides of the coin. On the other hand, theists (esp christains) would not even think for a second that there's another possibility. You keep thinking there's only one way, there're many ways as there are infinite number of circles from a point.

Let's break it down, since most persons cant think.

God is all knowing, yes or no?
If yes, he knew Adam would sin, right? How can you reconcile this with the free will theory? It means that Adam was doomed from the start. same way Judas was doomed, same way God already knows some persons here will go to hell fire even before they are born. Now that's contradictory, right?

When did God create hell fire? How can an all loving and all forgiving God create a place of torment for His own creations? Creations that are doomed already. Like Einstein said (I believe this too), "I cannot imagine a God who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, whose purposes are modeled after our own -- a God, in short, who is but a reflection of human frailty."

I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.

The answer to the poster's question is to reconsider the story. You can not justify the creation of the forbidden tree if the story is false itself. I'm not saying it is. I'm just asking you to reconsider. The big question is: Why are you a chistain or a musmim? Is that an exercise of your free will? Are you one because of your environment or because you think its safer to believe in something? Take some time and think. Thinking can be the most difficult things to do, especially when it is about the fundamentals

What more do fans want from him. To kill himself or to start crying. Abeg Sia1 just make sure to collect your settlement if they decide to dismiss you.
All the fans ever wanted was to take his team to the nations cup as he promised. He promised to deliver. I can remember Siasia promising spanking some teams. With all the resources at his disposal, the fans dont want apologies. There's no excuse for failing to deliver. We would sit back and watch teams like Niger, Burkina Faso, Lybia, Sudan playing the nations cup.
SportsSiasia's Statement After Failing To Qualify For Nations Cup by Grassroot(op): 7:32pm On Oct 08, 2011
Reaction from Nigeria coach Samson Siasia to their exit from the tournament today. "We want to apologise to all Nigerians. We have not qualified for the Nations Cup and we take responsibility as a team," Siasia said. "We did our best, we dominated the game, we created chances, but we failed to take our chances and we gave up a last minute goal. "We understand the frustration of the fans because they love their team so much. But sometimes, football can be cruel."

I'm not sure he understands the frustration of the fans.

This is good especially for Sirleaf (didnt know the others before now). I just hope it has not been politicized, its just 4 days to her re-election. I'm sure she would have an overwhelming victory this time.
I thought the award would be connected to the resolution of the crisis in Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast,  Don't see what significant thing Sirleaf did this year toward peace, seems like a long deserved award (maybe 3/4 yrs ago). Anyway, congratulations to her and the others.

EPOMA:
In my vision, i see two teams struggling and struggling for just one goal. Then in the second half. One of the teams scores. That goal will decide the match. Hmmm, well. . . All i can say is that the game does not favour Nigeria. God showed me even the guinea player that ll score the goal that ll decide the match but me revealing his name will mean endangering him on that day. But with God, all things are possible o. First of all, we have to play our own part. Pray as if all depends on God. Play football as if all depends on you.
If that's what he said, then , we just have to wait and see.
Both teams struggling for one goal. He said God showed him the player that would score the goal(a player from Guinea). And that the goal would decide the match. He's not revealing the player's name not to endanger him. Unless the goal would be an own goal, then since he has watched the full match in his vision and he didn't see any Nigerian scoring, 9ja don loose be that. lol
SportsRe: T.b Joshua Predicts That nigeria Will Loose nigeria v Guinea Match If......... by Grassroot: 9:56am On Oct 05, 2011
If Taiwo does not direct his shots well, he can score an own goal in the second half, 63 mins to be precise. But with prayers or if he gets injured before then, this can be averted. How's that for a prophesy?

9ja get prophets sha. Even England get their own pope. No let them hear am for Vatican o. That poster wan resume those ancient wars by that statement.

For real, TB Joshua did not give a prediction. He only discussed football (afterall he said he loves the game). He said what he thinks MIGHT happen and what COULD be done to avert disaster. In my mind, its only a DISCUSSION or his opinion, or am I missing something?

But like most persons have said, there are more pressing issues in 9ja to discuss and pray for in a chuch service. But football is an opium in 9ja these days, u blame the pastor?
SportsRe: Mikel Obi Fines $5,000 For Not Meeting Eagles Camp Deadline. by Grassroot: 9:22am On Oct 05, 2011
This is a welcome development to discipline the players. Just some reservations. The fine should be a standard, not just a one time incident. Why $5K? If a player from Eyimba arrives late to camp, would be be fined $5k? Or is it because we all know his salary? I just think there should be a baseline for such fines and they should be standardized.

I will appreciate recommendation of good books/materials for self studying.
If you have a good internet facility, go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/documentation/index.html and download the oracle documentation library. You can also get Oracle Database software from the site. The documentation contains beginner guides for installation and Oracle database management. Pay attention to the guide "Oracle Database Concepts" since you are just starting. If you intend to be a specialist in Oracle Database and related technologies, you must have and also get very familiar with the documentation.

By the way, the documentation library is free (the software is also free for educational purposes). For certification, you can get certification guides, videos, exam dumps, etc but most of them are developed from (and refer to) this documentation library.

I dont see what is "mouth watering" here. Am I missing something? with respect to the capital level discussed here, I see 2.25 - 2.50% for 30 days, 2.50 - 2.75% for 60 days, and 2.75 - 3.00% for 90 days. It doesn't seem to be better than the rates from the top banks.

@sandra5284, thanks for the tips
BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks With Best Interest Rates& Least Charges by Grassroot: 11:45am On Sep 30, 2011
@IykeD, thanks for the info. For FG bonds, not sure about the current coupons, but someone gave this
I just bought #10m worth of FGN Bond maturing in 2016 with 11.49 yearly interest. Every 6 months I get a cheque of #574,500.
recently on https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-768325.32.html. Not a bad bargain, I think.

@sandra5284
For 5M they will give you 10% per annum.A friend of mine deposited 4.5M and they give her 88k every 3month which is about 8
I guess u were refering to kakawa discount house (or other smaller banks?). This is really good info, best I've seen on deposits lately. Please could you tell us more? I'm interested. Thanks.

Sandra, about bonds, though the govt may be irresponsible in indebtedness,  I think the current outlook suggests that it is still a safe investment in Nigeria. They can always print money to pay their local creditors, its just going to have adverse effects on the economy (high inflation rates, value of naira suffering, etc), but the investor's fund will be safe (even if it wont have the same/better value in the long run).
BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks With Best Interest Rates& Least Charges by Grassroot: 9:36am On Sep 30, 2011
@IykeD
well said, its no longer attractive since most persons don't have the patience to wait for the investment to compound. Like @sandra5284 said, discount houses give higher interest rates, but I don't think they are very reliable in Nigeria (my opinion). Don't know if they are covered by NDIC scheme when they go broke (are they?) what we need here is safe investment, right? Bonds and bills are safer (FG and State Bonds, dunno abt private bonds, never tried it).

still waiting for the answers to the @OP's question, what are the interest rates and least charges with Nigerian banks?

Dunno for most banks, GTB offers like 2.8% for 5M (30 days), some months ago it was around 3.25%. I saw an offer of around 4.25% on over 10M for 180 days tenor (abt 5 months ago). so far, that's the best I've seen from them.
BusinessRe: Nigerian Banks With Best Interest Rates& Least Charges by Grassroot: 8:39am On Sep 30, 2011
@UncleJJ, FD are based on compound interests (if you rollover) but just some clarifications

You just have to understand "compound interest" to make your deposits any "fun".

Basic - Deposit 1- 5M for 30day @ 4% = 200k - now u have 5.2M
Basic - Deposit 2- 5.2M for 30day @ 4% =208K - now u have 5.48M
Basic - Deposit 3- 5.48M for 30 @ 4% = 216,320 - now u have 5.48 + 216,320
the interest is per annum and not 30 days as it might look in ur calculations (maybe that wasnt ur intentions). For the first example, the actual amount u'll get after 30 days on 5M at 4% is 200/12 = N16,666, then you rollover the amount and apply the 4% rule and divide by 12 to get the interest for the following month. You see, FD is not a very attractive investment, and these days its rare to have rates up to 4% for 5M. Most banks would give you btw 2.8-3.5%. Like someone said, FD is just for keeping initial investments.

CareerRe: Should Parents Dictate Their Children's Career? by Grassroot: 12:49pm On Aug 11, 2011
I think the things we are exposed to when we are very young affect our career choices more than our gifts (if we ever have the opportunity to discover them). If a successful lawyer wants to "dictate" the career of his child, he can cultivate the interest in the child at a very young age. Make him/her love the career from infancy. The child would make the choice naturally. As the child gets older, it gets difficult.

PoliticsRe: Muslim Leaders Vow To Defend Islamic Banking by Grassroot: 8:40pm On Jul 25, 2011
I did a simple wikipedia search on Islamic/non-interest banking and I read a review on a paper that addressed how this banking system can improve economies in view of the global recession. Speaking from an economic frame of mind, this form of banking has very good incentives for trade and investment. Hence, I don't see anything wrong with this form of banking.

I think the problem here is that most persons are focusing on the "Islamic" connotation. That is just to indicate that its derived from Islamic/Sharia principles. Many western countries (US and England for example) practice this form of banking. Nigeria has a large population of Muslims that would patronize this banking system (I even read somewhere that it doesn't discriminate on religious grounds, though I doubt if that'll be applicable in Nigeria). I'll advise that we should focus on the concept and benefits rather than on the name. Most persons comments here are sentimental (religiously) without having knowledge of this system of banking. I believe we are literates in this forum, let us look at this objectively and give "economic" criticisms to this idea instead.

By the way, I'm not in favor of Muslim leaders "defending" and Christian leaders "condemning" this concept. I beg everyone to limit this issue to what it is - an economic issue. Let us not turn it into a religious war or something. It is not about religion, it is about banking.

I am a Christian anyway
PoliticsTribunal Upholds Uduaghan's Rerun Election Victory In Delta by Grassroot(op): 1:56pm On Jul 25, 2011
Here we go again,

Despite weeks of election ballot scrutiny by forensic experts at the Delta state election petition tribunal and desperate efforts by the Delta state governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, to abort today's ruling in  Asaba, election petition tribunal  judges ruled today that Mr. Uduaghan was "validly" elected during the January 6th 2011 re-run elections.

Last week when it appeared that the ruling might not favor him Mr. Uduaghan dashed to the federal high court in Asaba to obtain a judgement which claimed Mr. Ogboru was not qualified to run in the election in January in the first place, however, the tribunal rejected the high court ruling.

RomanceRe: What Is Wrong With Marrying A Jehovah's Witness? by Grassroot: 5:40pm On Jul 24, 2011
Quote from Kizini

@hectorblaze: Marriage decisions are what you need caution in making a final decision as to who becomes your Life partner. As a prospective husband, you should be looking for a" partner" the word partner emphasizes the kind of person you should look out for! One who shares same belief, Idealogy or someone who has same line of thought as you. As a husband you need to provide for your household both Materially and spiritually as well, now my questions is why enter into a marriage that a line has been drawn on religious differences?

If you marry her this is what you should expect, She wont celebrate Christmas, Birthdays with you. Imagine yourselfs on this periods of the year alone with your wife at home with a different belief. Already there is a friction and when you give birth to children, where are your children going to worship? Guess with you and your wife has a different opinion. So how do you reconcile this? You convert her right? Dont think about, My mama used to tell me dont expect to change someone who has been living with an Idealogy for tweenty sometime years of their lifes maybe you should try your luck but trust me you have a very slim chance.

My own opinion about religion is this : Religion is a science that guides our way of life. In as much as we have different religions in the world, all religion claim to proffer the best way of life. People go on and on in this forum to criticize, de-humanize other peoples religion but wait a minute I use to think we have freedom of association/Religion and choices we make in Life. The Outcome of our actions tells if we have made wrong decisions in our lifes, as an RGGC Member have you for once regretted associating with your Church? As a Catholic church member have you for one regretted being associated with your church as a Jehovah's witnesses have you for once regretted being a member? As a member of deeper life Bible church have you regretted being a part of it? Enough members of the said Places of worship have inner contentment with their beliefs and have continue to practice the way of life being preached to them based on the their doctrines which might be working for them.

It is better you make your decisions now!! when you have the power to change things than when its late. You might decide out of love to change your religion because of her, but that will be a wrong thing to do because religion should be about our worship to God not because of Love of woman. Because if you change because of love you will never give your best to your new religion because you have other ideas from the on-set which might seem as if you were coarse into it.

Why not make a choice from someone who shares same Opinion as you do? It saves you alot. Though finding a mate is not easy. But I believe with the drones of people pumping into your place of worship every time you should find your match there.

Let the girl go, sometimes finding the right partner involves you giving up on others. She has her good qualities but she is not the right one for you, is as simple as that.

But for people who go about criticizing others, without showing why they are better off with their opinions? I rest my case.

I have given you an advice without religious sentiments attached to it.

I will forever remain a Jehovah's Witness and have no regrets about it.
Moderator, With this, I think this thread should be closed before it becomes a religious thread. There can't be a better advise.

When I come to romance thread, I look for romance not religious arguments. Please let's stick to romance here (I believe I'm speaking the minds of others)

Supporters of Boko Haram speaking up. I didn't expect less from them. Afterall they used Boko Haram to rig their elections. They are trying to protect themselves.
JTF should go ahead. Fish them out, prosecute them. Let justice be done. If they grant them amnesty, then it would become a pattern in Nigeria. It should suggest that Nigeria is weak. Nigeria must show how strong they are. Boko Haram "soldiers" are not as trained as our soldiers. Just declare war on them. No turning back.

This is very good news to the kidnapped and their parents.

But just like most of these kind of stories, the details are not given. I think they secretly negotiated with the kidnappers and paid them the ransom. Then out of shame about their incompetencies, they come up with this story. Hope my skepticism would be forgiven if I'm wrong. I just dont have faith in the Nigerian police. I don't believe they conduct any kind of investigation or search. In Nigeria, its every man for himself. Most kidnap stories are settled by paying the kidnappers, or the kidnapped escapes. Very few are resolved by the police. In the case of these persons, I think the govt agreed to pay or resolve this issue cos they are corpers.

Club: Granada
Country: Nigeria
Age: 22
Role: Forward
Achievement: Scored the goal that saw Granada return to La Liga

Granada returned to the Primera Division in Spain after a 35-year absence on Saturday evening, and Odion Ighalo was the man who sparked celebrations.
The 22-year-old, on loan from Italian club Udinese, netted the opening goal in their 1-1 draw against Elche in the second-leg of their promotion play-off. It was Ighalo’s wonderful solo strike after 27 minutes that eventually saw the Andalucian side gain promotion to the Spanish first division on the away goals rule.

3:56am: over 16 hours over the blast, no comments from GEJ. They have set up JTF for Boko Haram (nothing new). Different news agencies reporting different number of casualties. With the FOI act, I demand to see a complete report of the bomb blast (I hope that is not in anyway personal or inhibiting their "investigations".

My guess is that this might be swept under the carpet, so I want to do my own kind of investigation.

I think the government know these Boko Haram people, I'm sure they know their supporters. If they don't, like someone suggested, let us use corruption to our own advantage. Catch one of them (not difficult to catch one I think), and bribe him to unveil the names and provide evidence. Even US and advanced countries do this. They call it "cutting a deal for immunity".

I wonder what those SSS are doing. They didn't even have a hint that something like that was going to happen. With the prevalence of these attacks in Nigeria, shouldn't they have at least some undercover BokoHaram operatives to "leak" their plans?
