Sir Emeka Offor Bags Doctorate Degree in Entrepreneurship At UNIZIK

Awka the Anambra State Capital was agog on Friday as Nnamdi Azikiwe University continued its 13th Convocation Ceremony with presentation of Honourary Doctorate Degrees to the CEO of Chrome Group Sir Emeka Offor, while the Obi of Onitsha His Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe and the running mate of Late Chief M.K.O Abiola in the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election Ambassador Babagana Kingibe. The trio who were honoured with Doctor of Entrepreneurship, Doctor of Science and Doctor of Politics and Strategy respectively received the awards with dignitaries across the country in attendance.

In his speech, the Visitor of the University President Muhammadu Buhari assured Nigerians that his government will put in more efforts to secure employment opportunities for the nation's graduates. President Buhari who was represented at the occasion by the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwukah further urged the graduands to be patriotic and law abiding.

Also in his address, the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku thanked the University Community for the full support they gave to him. He further used the opportunity to disclose the achievements of his administration. Prof. Ahaneku's tenure as Vice-Chancellor ends in June 2019.

In their reactions, the awardees pledged that the awards bestowed on them shall always motivate them to put in more efforts in giving the best to Nigeria and Nigerians. They also promised to devote the awards to betterment of humanity.

Other dignitaries at the event include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Honourable Minister of Information Lai Mohammed, Senate Leader Ahmed Lawan, Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima, Anambra South Senator-Elect Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, academic scholars and students.

Globally, Workers Day is purely celebrated to pay tribute and honour to the contributions made by the workers towards the betterment of various institutions and consequently our society. This year's celebration provides an opportunity to assess the current local and international issues which are of great significance and value to our labour population/unions and Nigeria’s trade unions movement. Our goal must be to build a cohesive workforce driven by professionalism, adequate remuneration, an effective pension scheme, projects performance and zero tolerance for corruption because that is the only way we can entrench good governance in the polity while ensuring that our workforce attain job satisfaction.

As a union, Labour must begin to engage and partner with the Government on the issue of work place efficiency and service delivery. Our cardinal objective should always be efficient and effective service delivery to the people. Moreso, the fight against corruption, absenteeism, waste and insolence should not be for Government alone, it is a collaborative task for sustainable development and growth.

At this juncture, I wish to commend His Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano for the prompt payment of salaries due to Anambra workers. His efforts, despite the precarious economic landscape in ensuring undelayed payment of salaries have not gone unnoticed. I also wish to use this medium to urge him to implement the newly signed minimum wage bill.

Conclusively, the Federal Government must take the creation of new workplaces seriously through empowerment schemes that would make real impact on the Nation as this is a viable pathway to strengthen excellence in service delivery and economic growth.

Easter stands out as the most important celebration in the Christian calendar, as it marks the conquest of death through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

For Christians, Easter is a time where; in Jesus, love has triumphed over hatred, mercy over sinfulness, goodness over evil, truth over falsehood, hope over despair, and life over death.

The Easter message of rebirth and forgiveness also gives us hope that no matter what has happened in the past each new day carries with it the promise of a new beginning, a chance to do better, and the opportunity to make a positive difference.

The conquest of death, shown by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, gives Christians the hopeful message of reaching eternal joy beyond death, by following the Christian teachings of love towards all and the spirit of sacrifice. It is an auspicious occasion for us to recall the eternal and valuable message of love, forgiveness, compassion and brotherhood preached and propagated by Jesus Christ.

It is our firm belief that as we celebrate God’s greatest gift to mankind through the sacrifice of his son, we as a people must recommit ourselves to the traditions of repentance, sacrifice, charity and selflessness that characterized the suffering, agony and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, who sacrificed his life for all humanity.

On this occasion, we must take time to reflect on the Easter message of love and hope which challenges us to put into practice what it means to love our neighbours as ourselves not just today, but every day, as this is the foundation upon which a better society based on love, understanding and tolerance is built.

The most anticipated Launch ceremony of the book titled, Nigeria: Re-awakening the Giant, Authored by Ms. Vivian Lam, was indeed historic and epoch, with the high and mighty in attendance. The occasion which was held at Transcorp Hilton Hotel Abuja, was a grand ceremony that left alot of dignitaries amazed and astonished at the turnout it witnessed.
According to AbujaPress Correspondent, the occasion was worth a while, with the presence of former Interior Minister, Comrade Abba Morro, as Chairman of the occasion, wife of Kogi state Governor, Mrs. Rashida Bello, as Mother of the Day, Executive Commissioner of NCC, Mr. Sunday Dare who reviewed the book and Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum who delivered a good will message as well as Mrs. Julie Okah, Director General of NAPTIP.
However, other reputable faces spotted was Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, and his colleagues, , Mr. femi Fani Kayode and his wife, Sen. Eze Ajoku, Barr. Kemdi Dikeocha, former Imo state Speaker, and representatives from FIRS, CBN, Customs and other notable national agencies.
The Book by Vivian Lam, highlighting the natural and resources of Nigeria, her challenges and recommendations towards regaining her lost glory. The book tends to support the value of the house citizenship and it's unequivocal benefits to nation building.
However, the Author, Ms Vivian Lam has thanked everyone who made out time and efforts to grace the book launch occasion. She has expressed sincere appreciation to everyone, agencies, social groups and association, that indeed participated and was useful in making her national book a success.

Plot by Chief Chris Uba of PDP to arrest and prosecute the Returning of Officer for Anambra south senatorial zone, Prof Umenweke for unknown reasons has hit a brick wall.
Up till now, no one knows the crime committed by the Returning Officer for declaring results collated at the local govt level. The results he announced were the same results collated and announced at various local govt collation centres.
So what crime did he commit in totaling the results and declaring the winner?

If he gave out brand new transformers to those three communities because he wants them to give him their votes, what then can one say about the one he gave to UGA community barely two weeks after the election which he won clean and clear?.

Chief Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator-elect for Anambra South District, on Monday said that his vision was to make the Young Progressives Party (YPP) a formidable political platform in Nigeria before the next general elections.
Ubah, the Chairman of Capital Oil and Gas Ltd,, made the assertion while fielding questions from newsmen in Nnewi. He described YPP as a party for the youth, noting that he would roll out programmes that would galvanise young people across the country to make the party one of the strongest with the widest grassroots reach.
“Politically, I am the highest ranking elected member of the YPP, the onus is on me to reform YPP and make it a strong national party. “It is my wish that within the next two or three years, YPP will be able to build a very strong grassroots network of youths, we shall create a lot of programmes that will galvanise every Nigerian youth into the YPP. “I have done it before using TAN to sensitise the people of Nigeria, I am about the only Nigerian that has done that, to send messages that touched every politically conscious Nigerian. “I can re-enact that plan for YPP, as part of our strategic plan for advancement,” he said.
Ubah said it was a herculean task to emerge from a relatively unknown party, however, he urged other candidates who ran on YPP platform but failed not to lose hope. He said that YPP would not only become majority in the state Houses of Assembly but also occupy Government House as a ruling party.
“It was our first outing as a party and indeed first outing of some of our candidates; for me, I have been in the trenches of this political journey since six years having contested governorship in 2013 and other offices using different platforms. “So, I am more entrenched, I am closer to the people than most of our candidates for Anambra House of Assembly. “Again, considering that House of Assembly election was what the governor saw as a battleground for his own political survival, it was expected that he will do anything humanly possible not to allow opposition into the House, so we gave it to him.
“These candidates will vie again and at that time, the political conditions will not be the same, YPP will not only win seats, our members will dominate the Houses of Assembly and that is when YPP must have taken over some Government Houses,” he said.
The Senator-elect dismissed the rumours that he had joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said he was a lone senator on the platform of his party and could not be an Island onto himself, hence his decision to be in “caucus” with the APC senators who are the majority in the Senate. He said “caucusing, horse trading and lobbying” were normal in legislative practice seeing that he had the approval of his party to do so. “As for APC, no, I did not join APC, I was only caucusing with them and caucusing is normal in politics all over the world.
“In America, Joe Lieberman is an Independent candidate that caucuses with the Democrats, Benny Sanders is another test case in America. “So, there is nothing that says I should go to Senate and stand alone and wait for people to come and give me food because I went there on the ticket of YPP. “I need to mingle with people I can share ideas with and see how I can be of value to my constituency, that is why I am caucusing with the APC and I have the backing of my party,” he said.

The modern political party system in the U.S. is a two-party system dominated by the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. This fact has not prevented minor parties or independent candidates from running for office at the local, state, and national levels.

Currently, the American Senate consists of only two parties; the Republicans and Democrats as well as two Independents that caucus with the Democrats (Bernie Sanders and Angus King). Bernie Sanders is an independent who caucuses with Senate Democrats and is most popular among Democrats. Sanders has remained an independent throughout his career in Washington, but caucuses with the Democrats and serves on the party's leadership team as the Senate outreach director.

Senator Sanders lobbied his way into the Democratic senate caucus for practical reasons (getting coveted committee assignments, mustering votes for bills). Recently he was rated as the most prominent advocate for progressive policies in the U.S.

In 1991, Sanders along with four liberal Democrats founded the Congressional Progressive Caucus and he became its chairman. At some point, Sanders began to win the goodwill of Democratic leadership, all the while refusing to join the party as a member. Though he is an independent, Sanders caucuses with congressional Democrats, throughout his senatorial career, Sanders has reshaped Democratic politics by virtue of his strategic alignment in the parliament.

In 2006, when Sanders decided to run for senate as an independent candidate, the Democrat party worked to stop Democratic candidates from running against him, and he was endorsed by Democrats even without joining the party officially.

No plan to amend Constitution to keep Buhari beyond 2023 - Sen. Sabi

Spokesman of the Senator Ahmad Lawan For Senate President Group, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, has debunked as fake news, a story making the rounds that the former if elected as Senate President, will amend the constitution to allow President Buhari stay in office beyond 2023.

Senator Abdullahi, in his reaction to the story, described same as a desperate plot concocted by "evil and desperate politicians" bent on frustrating the emergence of Senator Lawan as Senate President in the 9th National Assembly.

Senator Sabi in a statement issued yesterday said, "This is just a very desperate attempt by detractors and some politicians who want to taint the good image of the Senate Leader, and the future Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan."

According to the lawmaker, "When we (Senators) met the President two days ago, he (President) was very emphatic that he has stood for election 5 times, and this is his last.

"The President made it clear that he wants to retire quietly to his home, on the basis of which he is going to work very hard these four years since Nigerians have given him this opportunity, to leave a lasting legacy behind."

"The President's statement clearly shows that he is a full democrat who knows that our constitution only provides for second term which he has gotten, and for which he is grateful to Nigerians.

"Therefore, to come back to say that Senator Ahmad Lawan will amend the constitution to keep him in office beyond 2023 is just the height of evil thinking and bad politics taken too far.

"The public should discountenace that and focus on supporting a very genuine and transparent process that will lead to the emergence of our own choice leaders as Senators-elect when the 9th Senate unveils," Senator Abdullahi added.

...court throws out Chris Uba's case.

The Federal High Court sitting at Awka this morning in a ruling, dismissed the case filed by the defeated PDP candidate for Anambra south senatorial district, Chief Chris Uba against the February 23 national assembly election in the zone.

Chris Uba had approached the Federal High Court Awka seeking the leave of the court to arrest and prosecute the Returning Officer for the Anambra south senatorial election, Prof Umenweke Nnama for declaring Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah of YPP winner of that election.

The PDP candidate also sort the order of the court to stop INEC from issuing certificate of return to Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah which the court decline.

Today, the Federal High Court Awka after hearing the suit struck out the petition against the senator-elect, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and the Returning Officer for lacking in merit.

Eselu has not relented since the conclusion in which Ubah defeated him and his brother in Uga and Aguata. He, in collaboration with Ezeemo caused the Returning Officer in a frivolous petition to declare the concluded election inconclusive. It took the professor of law an immediate investigation to withdraw his letter to the REC Awka and reaffirmed his earlier declaration that Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah won the election squarely.

The federal high court has today laid to rest the various attempts by Chris Uba to upset the victory of Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

This is another victory for ndi Anambra south who have been librated from Uga brothers.

I wonder why this Ifeanyi Ubah election and YPP and his defection will always be on the news, although we are not surprise because for a man with lion heart to singlehandedly nurture a young party that produced a senator within three months is a big news.
But for the senator defecting to the ruling party so soon is only the handwork of mischief makers who never want to reason with their common sense even when the senator has come on air with humility to explain that he remained in the party that brought him to the senate. Can one build a house and destroy the house at the same time.

Outgoing Eight Senate Majority Leader and 2019 Yobe North Senator-Elect Ahmed Lawan on Monday in Lagos, assured Igbo traders that if given the mandate to lead the ninth Senate, his administration will always collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies of government to provide lasting conducive atmosphere for traders. Senator Lawan who is a leading contestant for the position of Nigeria's number three citizen made this known when he received a delegation of Igbo market leaders led by Anambra South Senator-Elect Ifeanyi Ubah and the President of Balogun Business Association (BBA), Tony Obi in Lagos.

Addressing the delegation and the press, the current Senate Leader further assured ndị Igbo that if elected the President of the ninth Senate and Chairman of the ninth national assembly, his administration will continue to find lasting solutions to issues bothering on concession of Trade Fair Complex. He further recounted the previous roles the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Privatisation which he chaired played in ensuring peace and tranquility in the market especially the committee's helpful recommendations to both parties when the delegation of market leaders was invited by the Senate in 2011. Senator-Eelect, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, a tireless campaigner, motivated by the vision to serve his people, after many attempts, finally emerged the winner of the just concluded 2019 Anambra South Senatorial District Election which was a fierce and one of the toughest elections particularly in the State and Nigeria in general. No one believed Dr. Ubah could win with The Young Progressive Party (YPP) that was registered recently by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dr. Ubah contested to govern his dear State Anambra in 2013 on the platform of the Labour Party (LP). After the election that was widely believed to be marred by irregularities, he came third according to the announced result. Later, he became the most sought after politician after running one of the most innovative, creative and rigorous campaign in 2013. This was proven with the invitation by the then President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who wanted him to be among the leaders of his Presidential campaign team. Dr. Ubah was made Director of Contact and Mobilization, and consequently, he single-handedly injected over 10billion naira through his Non-governmental Organization, the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) to campaign and hold rallies for PDP in all the 774 local governments of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
TAN undoubtedly was believed to have provided over 70% feasibility and acceptability to the party’s candidates. In 2017, again, Dr. Ubah’s mandate was thwarted by the PDP cabals, who never wanted him to consolidate his vision in promoting human capital development. The PDP Governoship Primaries of 2017 was in fact, one of the most fraudulent party primaries in the history of Nigeria.
It was His Excellency, Gov. Willie M. Obiano, Sen. Victor Umeh and Sir. Victor Oye that pleaded with Dr. Ubah to come on board and help APGA win the governor’s re-election bid. Without much time, Dr. Ubah championed AfaIgboEfuna (a socio-political movement), injected his personal funds and all other campaign materials to campaign and hold rallies for APGA in 2017 which became a huge success. It is on record that Governor Obiano visited Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium three times within four days in a bid to fully secure the hearts of voters. After Governor Obiano won his re-election bid in 2017 tagged “21 over 21” through the help of Dr. Ubah’s capacity, he headed and supervised the disqualification of Dr. Ubah in 2018, about 48 hours to the APGA primaries which would have given him the APGA ticket to contest for the Anambra South Senatorial District in the 2019 general election.

The 2019 General elections had come and gone, and against all odds, Dr. Ubah has emerged the winner with over 87,000 votes. His goodwill, philanthropic gestures and selflessness made his win a well-deserved victory, first for the good people of Anambra South who had been shortchanged by past representatives for decades and secondly, for Nigerians in general who will witness a new dawn in quality legislation that will impact positively on the lives of the masses. To be exact, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah polled a total of 87,081 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chris Uba of the PDP who amassed 52,462 votes, and Nicholas Ukachukwu of APGA who had 51,269 votes. Andy Uba, the incumbent senator recorded a meagre 13,245 votes. On his way to this historic victory, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah defeated the Uba brothers in their wards and Local Government, Aguata. He also amassed an overwhelming 28,101 votes in Nnewi North with his closest rival, Chris Uba of PDP recording just 5,849 votes. He also won in Ekwusigo LGA and Orumba South Local Governments making it 4 LGAs out of the 7 LGAs which make up Anambra South Senatorial District and that proved that he won convincingly with a margin of 35,000 votes.
Smiles, tears of joy and wild jubilations abound all over the nation regarding his victory. It is a testament that Nigerians were longing to see the likes of Ifeanyi Ubah in the Senate

Addressing delegations of Igbo leaders, market leaders, town leaders and TAN, Dr. Ubah maintained that after extensive deliberations and consultations with key stakeholders in Lagos state while giving due consideration to the manifesto of every contestant, TAN has no doubt that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu represents the Next Level that Lagos state is in dire need of. He added that Sanwo-olu's antecedents speak volume of his rare qualities and represent the group's vision and passion for a greater Lagos State and that the group (TAN) is proud to have endorsed his candidature and subsequent emergence as the Governor of Lagos State.

Prof. Umenweke reaffirms Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah victory, withdraws his previous letter to INEC dated 25th of February, 2019

In what appears to be a quick turnaround, Professor Umenweke has withdrawn his earlier letter to INEC wherein he recanted his declaration of Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah as the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial elections and declared the election inconclusive.

He went ahead to reaffirm his earlier declaration that Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, the candidate for YPP is the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial seat as he had carried out extensive enquires and investigations from the seven Local Government Collation Officers and found the content and claims of the petition submitted by Mr. Chris Uba as unfounded.

His letter reads:

"My letter of 25th February, 2019 which was a response to a letter dated 23rd February, 2019 by the Chief Sir Chris Uba, the PDP Candidate is hereby referred to.

By virtue of my letter of 25/02/2019, I stayed that the results of the election into the Anambra South Senatorial seat were inconclusive, to enable me debrief the seven Local Government collation officers on the issues raised in the petition of 23/02/2019. It was also to enable me investigate the claims contained therein.

Within this interval, I have made extensive enquires and investigations from the seven Local Government Collation Officer involved and none received any reports from the wards in the form of Form EC 40 G. Consequently none of them generated any Form EC 40 G1. No reports whatsoever were received by the Local Government Collation Officers involved in the Anambra South Senatorial Elections. No such report was given to me. In the light of the above, there is no evidence before me to support the claims of the writer of the petition of 23rd February, 2019.

By virtue of the foregoing, I hereby re-affirm my declaration that Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah the candidate for YPP is the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial seat.

My letter of 25/02/2019 is hereby withdrawn"

Professor Umenweke also went further to discredit the publication by Punch newspapers on the 27th of February, 2019, pointing out that he did not announce the result under duress and never was there a time during the announcement of the results where a gun or knife was pointed at him.

In addition to the acknowledged letter released by the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Public Relations Officer of the University, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu confirmed via a phone call that the University received the letter from Prof. Umenweke where he reaffirmed that Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah remains the Senator-elect for Anambra South Senatorial District.

Recall that Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah polled a total of 87,081 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chris Uba of PDP who amassed 52,462 votes and Nicholas Ukachukwu with 51,269 votes. Yesterday, history beckoned! Yesterday, democracy stood tall and providence held before us a beacon summoning us to collectively build a more progressive Anambra South and we heeded to this clarion call.

February 23rd, 2019 underscores such a historic day in my life, our lives and in the trajectory of Anambra South because it marks an elevated level of victory for democracy and the rule of law in Anambra South. The outcome of this election, despite the stumbling blocks and setbacks we faced at the the earlier stage of this Senatorial race, shows the unswerving determination of our people to ensure that democracy triumphs. We sent a strong signal to all and sundry that no might is powerful enough to thwart the collective will of the people.

My decision to contest for the Anambra South Senatorial seat is solely driven by my deep-rooted passion *to champion the recovery of the Igbo economy* while consolidating on the legacies of our founding fathers. This is my bond with Ndi Anambra South.

Special thanks must go to God Almighty for the grace, strength and favour he bestowed on me thus far. Without Him, none of this would have been remotely possible.

Today, as we stand poised to build and move Anambra South to unprecedented heights, I wish to reassure everyone of you that I will not let you down. The confidence you all have reposed in me by virtue of this historic victory will be not be taken for granted as I am under no illusion of the enormity of the task ahead.

The election period is now over and I am aware of the justifiably high expectations of my constituents. There is no time to revel in the outcome of the election as there is so much to be done in a bid to reposition Anambra South for greater heights. Now, it’s time to get to work.

In due time, I will be releasing a series encapsulating my journey thus far - the disappointments, lows, highs, progress and victory. I enjoin you to stay tuned.

Once again, thank you to everyone who contributed to this victory, no matter how little. I will embarking on a "Thank you" tour in earnest to show my appreciation for the love and support I enjoyed from the beginning of this journey till date.

I do not have any illusion that I can realize this vision alone as I have always believed that the task of society building cannot be realized single handedly by any leader, but by the collective effort of every one of us. I hereby stretch a hand of fellowship to every other contestant. No victor, no vanquished! Let all of us, the electorate, men and women, join hands in the task of rebuilding and developing Anambra South.

Chief Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah defeats incumbent Senator, Andy Uba of APC, Chris Uba of PDP and Nicholas Ukachukwu of APGA to emerge the Senator-elect representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

In what promised to be a keenly contested battle, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah who flew the flag of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), a relatively new and unknown party, recorded an easy and overwhelming victory over the incumbent Senator, Andy Uba (APC), Chris Uba (PDP) and Ukachukwu (APGA) to return elected as the Senator-elect representing Anambra South Senatorial District.

Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah polled a total of 87,081 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chris Uba of PDP who amassed 52,462 votes and Nicholas Ukachukwu with 51,259 votes. Andy Uba recorded a meagre 13,245 votes. 

On his way to this historic victory, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah defeated the Uba brothers in their Local Government, Aguata LGA. He also amassed an overwhelming 28,101 votes in Nnewi North with his closest rival, Andy Ubah of PDP recording just 5,849 votes. He also won in Ekwusigo LGA and Orumba South Local Government making it 4 LGAs out of 7.

The news of Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah's epic victory threw the Senatorial District into wild jubliation as people trooped en masse to congratulate him at his Nnewi residence.

Lord grant your son, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah victory because of his obedient and loyalty to your instructions.

he gave back to the Anglican communion of Awka diocese their Bishop's Court,
he is building a catholic cathedral for the Nnewi Catholic Diocese,
he gave twelve new brand jeeps to all the Anglican and Catholic Bishops in Anambra State,
he has created many family bread winners and has empowered many youths.

Ndi Anambra South Senatorial Zone, our mumu don do abeg. It's a pay back time, and we must not fail to pay correctly and appropriately.

Our destiny is in our hands, it's never late for us to reclaim the ownership of our zone, and we must collectively take this Senatorial Zone to a greater height.
