you do not really need to read the entire royal marsden but i read it. My suggestion is that you go through all the test section attched to all the different chapters.

Secondly, I will suggest you take your time to check all the topics in the book and see the ones that you are not very comfortable with and read them properly.

Another very useful material is the NMC blueprint. Download it from NMC site and go through.

To be honest, your residual knowledge is the most important knowledge you need for cbt. I will try and contact you off here

For real, I think if you read from the top to the very last page of this thread you should have gotten the answer you need... Well in your case I feel your choice should be dependent on how funded you are to go on this ride, if you eventually opt for the US, you'd have to foot the bill solely, at least to the point when you write and pass your NCLEX, the UK is quite fast and less expensive, all you need to do is pass the IELTS with a score of 7 on each module, people write IELTS as much as 5 times just to get the required cut off, your score is cool but fact still remains it doesn't meet up, so you can decide to spend 68k writing the IELTS again that's if your first attempt was the UKVI version, and if it wasn't 81,500 thereabout for the ukvi version, and have an agency take it up from there when you have the required score, With UK 1 year experience is very okay regardless of the type of health facility, for Canada Hmmm its just a no go area atleast with all the info I was able to gather from different sources. Well if you have enough money and time in your hands you can try it out. Then Australia, you also need that 7 on each module .

PS
The part of the years of experience in a tertiary level hospital, lol this things can be made up, grin naija is corrupt wink sad

Very useful comment you made. However, the part in bold....hmmm. Let us be careful about the things we say online. Anyone and every one can access these things. The result is that certificates and stuff from Nigeria attracts excessive scrutiny.

It is well.

Abeg by registration you mean gambling to see if AHPRA will come through?

Honestly, if the funds to try it out is there, I wouldn't hesitate. Right now, I just want to channel all energy and resources towards one sure bet (UK or Ireland).

E nor get as I go pass IELTS and CBT then go up there and fail OSCE... With all this anger in me? Ha, I just can't fail o. It's not an option. Make God observe me walahi... Naija matter dey frustrate.

Thats a bit new. Wasn't given dates when I did mine.
But, I believe this means you should sit for your Cbt between 24th of may and 24 of November this year.

I appreciate the prompt response.

Just a quick one, how much does CBT cost in Naira?

Are their resource materials for preparations on it?

How do one find a good hospital to apply for in UK?

Cbt costs about £140. I am not sure about Naira equivalent as the rate changes everyday.

No, they don't send you resource material for Cbt just read random things online but focus on UK guidelines.

As per hospita, any NHS trust is good for a start as they are the ones that have the right training package for OSCE

@ gratefulme40, av received that congratulatory message, and was informed to prepare for CBT, please, what does it entail oh? How much is it?

Cbt costs about £140.
The good book to read is royal marsden. You can get it on amazon.
Check for a document called the blue print on NMC website. Its another important thing to go through though it looks a bit muddled up.

Overall, start reading. Prepare for your Cbt. To be honest, I think Cbt is not difficult. Once you feel ready, register for it and sit for it. We can sort out an employer afterwards.

Hugging offerings and Pearson Vue tricks..

Anyway, in regards to my Australia waka based on Nursing level.

I saw somewhere in the thread where Northern Territories of Australia was referenced as a hot cake point of entry. I went ahead to carryout my research on the way to access it. I picked Darwin (a town in NT Australia) and searched for recruitment agencies. Next, I found one. I filled out the form online and sent to them.

Yesterday, I got a reply.

Firstly, I was to get registered with AHPRA and then resend the CV to proceed.

They suggested I check if my country was among the nations that are likely to be registered by AHPRA.

Well I was not surprised when I clicked the link and found out that Nigeria was among the long list of countries that "are likely to not get accredited with AHPRA".

I sent another mail informing them and asking if there was any sponsored bridging program that can be explored of which they promptly replied No. They said any bridging program is pursued independently and they wish me luck if I should choose to go ahead with it.

All focus is now diverted fully to UK and Ireland. Oga gratefulme40 if you don't mind, kindly point out the pros and cons of these two. Which is the best way to approach?

Nail IELTS and let recruitment agencies take over (they will pay for all exams afterwards and flight ticket)

Or proceed solo as you did and get employement offer directly which will foot the osce bill.

Thanks in advance

I will suggest you get your IELTs
Do and pass your CBT

And then find an employer. You can get an employer by yourself or let an angency do it for you.

The importance of getting an employer at this stage is that they will pay for your osce which costs almost £1k

Besides the cost, they will prepare you for your osce. Chances of passing osce on your own with your own preparation is very slim.

Do make sure you choose a hospital as your employer not a care home or nursing home. Failure rate for osce is very high amongst foreign nurses recruited by care homes and nursing homes.

NB: an employer is same as sponsor. They provide sponsorship for work visa.

Please, nah beg Ai dey beg oh.

https://ireg.nmc-uk.org/

follow the above link. it will take you to NMC uk registration page for internationally trained nurses.
sign up and complete the registration process. It will request for your ielts test report form number
when you have signed up, you will receive a congratulatory email stating that you have passed your eligibility stage and that you should proceed to pearson vue to register for cbt

Within the next 24-48hours, you will receive another email with log in details. This is your authorization to test email. That is, an email authorizing you to register and sit for CBT (computer based test)

Your only challenge at this stage will be paying for cbt as the payment is done online and it does not accept Nigerian cards, you will need to find someone in the UK to make this payment for you.

Once you have sat and passed your cbt, you can get a employer (sponsor to whisk you over)

You will do your OSCE in the UK as there are no test centres for OSCE outside UK just yet

If you decide to go with UK and you get stuck in the process, drop a line here. I will respond.

Meanwhile, I saw your pm, I am unable to respond to pms as i have forgotten the log in details for the email i used for my NL account.

Apparently NNAS is a no go area, thank God I didn't just throw away 650USD for the initial assessment. Was on allnurses.com where different RN's gave their experience so far with it, no one has ever had a satisfactory assessment with the system, even a US BSN syllabus came in 'incomparable' where you are now referred to take An OSCE called the IENCAP with a touchstone Institution which apparently cannot hold the Influx of the IENs coming for it, so you have test dates hardly fixed and when they are the capacity of candidates they can test is just so small and you have a lot of nurses on a hold, after that you are referred to take some courses which with what I gathered is like starting the whole process of the degree nursing again. With the way it is no nurse trained outside Canada is qualified enough to be licensed there, and the whole process takes a lot of cash, a lot of time. Guess that's why most people trying out for Canada opt for OMNI college cos as it is going through them saves you all these Wahala, but then again "the Cost Implication"

Please is there anyone who has been on the UK recruitment process, how has it been Pls? I mean after passing the IELTS, the CBT, travelling n working under supervision, the OSCE and all, how is it? with what I gathered so far, the IELTS is the major hurdle, every other step is easy(took the IELTS 3ce, always marked down in the #Reading) , want to know how true this is, may be I can start on that road again, And i gathered its all within a short space of time..... @gratefulme how far with yours?

U.K. Is pretty straight forward. If you get ielts, holla at me.

I am mainly quiet cos most people are looking in US direction.

I'm a silent observer. I have to say this concerning paying for NCLEX from Nigeria.
If you are encountering problems paying, it's not a network issue.
Simply have someone pay for you using a card that is not a Nigerian card. All you have to do is to change your address on Pearson website while registering to be the same as the address on the person's card paying for you. It's not a same name thing as someone commented above but a same address thing.
Had similar experience, had to change my address to my uncle's address and it's worked. Pearson vue will tell you that Nigerian card is not acceptable cos the addresses on it are not traceable.
I'm on my way to the states more tips on employer issues. I signed with passport USA .

I think this is the solution to your question.

Thanks P406 for this clarification.

Paid with my card and had no problems.

Well, our case might be slightly different. I trained in Nigeria but have been out of Nigeria for a while, so I didn't have to use a Nigerian bank card.

I think it might have to do with you using a Nigerian ATM card....do you have someone in the UK that can use their card to pay for you?

Meanwhile, has NMC sent you an Authorization to test and Pearson vue log in details because without these, you will also not be able to pay for CBT.

True, but in cases of recalcitrant patients, isn't that where the professionalism of these said nurses is expected to prevail over the impulses of their emotions? I'm sure they were trained for situations as such in nursing school.

...

I'm not very good at taking pills as well, and the last time I fell ill, I asked the doctor if I could take injection(s) instead. I explained my aversion to drug-taking to him, and even informed him of how I barf sometimes after swallowing a pill.

Would you believe the doctor said, "Sorry, you have to take the drugs, there's nothing I can do about that”? It's not just that he muttered those cold words of indifference, but that he conveyed his message in the most gravelly and uncompassionate voice ever. What would you say about that?

In my opinion, i see nothing wrong in what the doctor said. The doctor in my opinion responded very professionally. While healthcare workers are expected to show care and compassion, they also have to be firm in their dealings with patients.

This doctor already apologized and told you there is nothing he or she really can do. Its possible the medication does not even come in injectable forms. In that case, what was he/she supposed to do? And to be honest, nobody likes taking medications, including the doctor who prescribes and the nurse who administers

Just see what we are saying! The said "pains in your butt" ensure your salary is paid via their bills.
Another thing is how sure are we that you explained well enough for the patient to understand considering that half the time many nurses themselves don't know the right thing
No one forced you to take the job or profession for eg. You're expected to take care of these people cheerfully. You think sickness is fun

i find the part of your write up in bold a bit insulting. A lot of nurses are well read and most times give evidence based advice.

Do you know that at the station where I work,a woman who just delivered(though she lost the baby) absconded from the hospital without settling bills?Tomorrow if patients come and you say pay a deposit, people start shouting,ah ah,why are they always asking for money first?
We are all products of the enivironment. The patients have their faults too.

I usually stay off topics concerning nurses.

I don't understand why no one has even come across a well mannered nurse. Yet, I have worked with many good nurses and I have always had patients thank me for taking care of them or their family. I have had patients try to hook me up with their relatives for being good to them or some big shots try to help me get better jobs from where they met me cos of my work ethics.

Talking about patients absconding. Many years ago. As a young new grad, I worked in a private hospital in lagos, I admitted this little boy brought in by his obviously poor looking parents. He was very sick and they turned up with no money. Against hospital ethics, I admitted them, called the doctor and treatment started and I told the parents this was not allowed but my conscience won't let me send them home. I asked the dad to go look for some money and come and pay deposit, he promised he would pay some money to the next shift taking ovetr. I finished and went home. By the time I came back, they had absconded without paying a dime. They had codedly taken away their useless items and wrapped rubbish and left by the bedside locker which made it seem like they only went to downstairs to watch tv. Ofcourse, the admission was traced to me, I was gonna pay for their care from my meagre salary of 32k at the time.

Now, tell me why I would go that extra mile ever again?

I make no excuses for the unruly nurses. But for every 1 rude nurse, there are more well mannered nurses. I am one.

Hi....my wife's ielts is listening 6 reading 6 speaking 7.5 and writing 7.5. She's a nurse...please can anyone advise if we are good to go with USA work visa hunt. @barbiee we need you right now...

I think Barbie stated somewhere that states like Texas does not require English proficiency exam. If this is the case, then your wife is good to go without ielts.

For countries where English is required, then, while your wife did well, the result can't really be of any use....she needs a minimum of 7 in all modules.

The only country where 6.5 is accepted is ireland, they accept 6.5 in reading and listening. I think Canada does aswell
