kokaiye: Teamie.... My baby is 5 weeks now and there was a time she went 5 days no poo, meanwhile, this is a baby that could pop upto 4times a day. I called my health visitor and asked and she said it’s fine, that even up to a week is still normal for exclusively breastfed babies. We are doing EBF, no water. So relax 1 Like 1 Share |

Ruthiegal: My dear, I can totally relate with having no help I was all myself by 2nd day post delivery although I had a VD but it was tough... could barely sneak out to bath and use the toilet. I have genuinely contemplated giving formulae but I am just hanging on and hoping it gets better otherwise I will add formulae by next week. At least, I have tried for a month 1 Like |

People of God We are 3 weeks old today My baby is literally glued to my boobs all day and night I am just wondering if this is what it is supposed to be. I have tried to express so I can get a little rest from non stop breastfeeding but I am not really getting much. I do think I am unable to get much milk due to the pump I am using cos when baby is sucking, you can hear her swallowing like she gulped a gallon of water and when she removes her mouth, you’d see milk leaking. I am just physically exhausted and tired I just need reassurance that this phase of non stop feeding will pass. 1 Like |

firstpregnancy: Nne, since it appears you are under a midwife’s care, I would suggest you go to a private laboratory and do your PCV, the essence of knowing your pcv especially now that you are due is to know your blood level before delivery because you are bound to loose some blood during delivery. So if your PCV is already low and you loose blood during delivery, it might be a bit risky. So, if you can, check your PCV, depending on the level, you can work it up if need be. All the best. 3 Likes |

firstpregnancy: Nne, how are you? Looks like baby is ready to make grand entrance As for how long from seeing mucus plug and when labour starts, there is no time frame, they usually advise you come when contractions become a bit regular like 3-4times in 10minutes..... something like that. So just monitor contractions but if you are concerned, you might just have to go in and get checked We are waiting for your BA |

UnknownQueen: I think you need to take her to hospital. You have already tried 2 different anti malaria, she might need more than just that. I understand the financial handicap but let them treat her first, whilst treatment is going on, your hubby can run around for money. It is well 1 Like |

Awesomemama: Lol @her beloved rice. I love rice too but I felt a huge sense of responsibility to do whatever it takes to have a healthy baby. Oh well, you might not have GDM, may be you ate a bit too much sweets prior to the test. Wait till you do your OGTT |

Awesomemama: I ate mainly grilled chicken and salad, moimoi, beans, a bit of unripe plantain (caution with plantain and beans cos they contain quite a bit of carbs), lots of egg, My typical day meal was like omelette and tea in the morning, moi moi and chicken in the afternoon and chicken and salad at night. No large portions of food I stayed off fruits cos though healthy, they have very high sugar content 1 Like 1 Share |

VERY VERY VERY LONG POST ALERT So after testing positive for pregnancy and registering for ANC at 7weeks. I had blood tests done and when I went for my 2nd appointment, I was told my blood showed my random blood sugar was at borderline and my urine tested positive for glucose, so they took another blood and repeated the glucose test, it cane back high so they had to do a blood confirmation test since it was still pretty early to do oral glucose tolerance test. Well all tests showed my blood glucose was high, thus, I was diagnosed with Early Gestational Disbetes at barely 14-15weeks pregnancy. They had the whole long talks with me about what could go wrong and right, I broke down in tears at the doctor’s office. Anyway, I was referred to endocrinologist and obstetrician to manage both my sugar levels as well as baby development. We tried diet control with no luck so I was started on diabetes tablet, I was also given a glucose meter and a diary to monitor my blood sugar 4times a day and record, I had appointments with the diabetic midwife every forth-night that everyone in the hospital literally knew me cos I was in clinic every other week. Following my endocrinologist and obstetric consultation, they informed me that given my erratic blood sugar levels, I will have to be induced at 38-39weeks as risk of complications tend to increase from 40weeks. From 28weeks, I had monthly growth monitoring scans to check baby’s development and weight as one of the risks with GDM is macrosomic baby (big baby), my scan at 28weeks already showed baby had hit 2kg and they were concerned baby was gonna get big. Anyways, I continued my medications plus dieting, that instead of gaining weight, I was loosing weight in pregnancy. My pre pregnancy weight was 74.9kg and at 38weeks pregnancy, I weighed 74.6kg. Anyway, besides the blood glucose drama, every other thing went smooth, I worked full time, hubby lives in a different country so it was me, my baby inside and the Holy Ghost for the whole 9 months. During my 36weeks appointment with the endocrinologist, he booked my for induction at 39weeks which was gonna be on the 8th of November. However, at 37 weeks and 5 days, I got a call from the diabetic midwife that my blood sugar was getting even higher and for that, they needed to bring my induction date forward to the 3rd of Nov. I should ring the ward at 8am to confirm time to come in. So on Sunday, the 3rd which also happened to be my wedding anniversary, I rang and I was asked to come in at 9:30am, bear in mind hubby is in another country altogether, he was planning to come in to be around for the 8th which was previously the scheduled date for induction of labour but the sudden Change in plan meant it was just me. So I picked my bag, called a taxi and headed to the hospital... I called my friend and she was to meet me at the hospital. On arrival at the hospital, I met the midwives, they told me the process and connected me to a monitor, after motoring baby for 30minute and confirmed she was doing ok, they did VE and inserted a pessary, I was told they don’t repeat VE till 24hours time and if by then, labour hasn’t started, they will insert another one. I was also told to walk around as much as possible as it will help to get things started, so, myself and my friend began walking round the whole hospital, about 4 hours after the insertion, I started having waist pains, it started from the back, then to the sides and finally settled at the front. Around 7pm ish, the night shift came on and I asked for pain killer, I was given paracetamol but I also was told I could have pethidine. So we went out for more walk, by this time, the waist pain had become very serious, after going up and down the stairs , I came back to my bed and my members ruptured at 9:40pm, I told the midwife and she asked if I wanted her to check me, ideally, I wasn’t to be checked till next day but that she can check on maternal request, I said, I will let you know when to check, about an hour later 10:50pm , I told her to check, she did (very painful and uncomfortable something), she said I was 3cm dilated, Cervix is paper thin and in 3 hours time, she will transfer me to labour ward. My people after this VE, the pain became so strong, I started asking for pethidine, my friend with me kept discouraging me as it could make babies a bit drowsy after birth, so, I accepted a bath and aromatherapy as alternative for pain relief..... I was in this bath and suddenly I realised I was pushing, I couldn’t stop myself from pushing so they helped me back to bed, pushed me straight to labour ward, I was asked to climb the delivery couch which I did and they could see my baby’s head, they just said I should push with contractions, the others were running around getting things ready, with the next contraction, I tried pushing and it felt like I was being cut in pieces in my Jajaina, I told them I feel like I am tearing up down below, they told me to go ahead and push as baby was there already, with subsequent contractions, I pushed 2x and baby’s head was delivered, next one, I pushed, her body came out and she was placed on my chest and the placenta was delivered lastly. She came out at exactly 23:36 screaming her lungs out. She weighed 3.165kg. I had a 2nd degree tear which the midwife sutured very meticulously. I was up in minutes to hours, walking about, had a shower, carried my baby. Was discharged home at 6pm the next day. - All the pains disappeared completely immediately after the placenta came out that till now, I am still trying to remember what that pain felt like but it appears I have forgotten it. - I had the best midwives from admission, to delivery and discharge - I had my baby in less than an hour from the time I was 3cm dilated. I don’t know how the dilatation jumped from 3cm at 10:50pm to baby being delivered at 11:36pm, I just know it was God, even the midwives all told me chances of having my baby on Sunday was almost zero as a FTM - I tried to induce labour naturally with pineapples as I heard but it ended up spiking my blood sugars up even more so I stopped In all, I am thankful to God, I have the most perfect healthy baby girl, with the fullest hair ever, everyone keeps talking about her hair. Ok.... let me stop, this is very long already. Cappo Jeniluv, BA/BS submitted. To all the remaining November team members, go in Faith, He who holds tomorrow is waiting fo finish what He has started. Love you all beautiful mamas 65 Likes 1 Share |
