I could remember many of my classmates parent back in 2013 in Kaduna who were textile workers lost their jobs and situation got so bad that some of them couldnt cater for their children's needs anymore....It was indeed disastrous when Textile factories in Kaduna were shot down due to lack of funds as millions of Nigerians were rendered jobless. I really commend the President for its assurance to take us back to the good old days of the textile industries as it will go a long way in creating jobs to millions of Nigerians.

Politics / President Buhari Departs For Paris To Participate In Peace Forum by Grayxme: 3:14pm On Nov 09, 2018
Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Friday for Paris, France, to participate in the first edition of the Paris Peace Forum which opens on Sunday and ends on Tuesday. President Buhari Mr Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday. The Peace Forum is organised by the French Government and a number of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs). The Forum is based on the “simple idea that international cooperation is key to tackling global challenges and ensuring durable peace.” Adesina disclosed that the Nigerian President would join the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres and other world leaders in discussing contributions towards global peace while underscoring the imperative of collective action. While in Paris, President Buhari will also join other world leaders to commemorate the centenary anniversary of the Armistice signed on Nov. 11, 1918 between the Allied Forces and Germany in the forest of Compiegne in France to end the First World War. During his visit to Paris, the presidential aide said, Buhari would attend a luncheon hosted by President Emmanuel Macron of France in honour of visiting heads of delegations. “Before returning to Abuja, the President and his delegation will have an interactive session with the Nigerian Community in France,’’ Adesina said. President Buhari will be accompanied to Paris by Governors Aminu Masari, Willie Obiano and Kayode Fayemi of Katsina, Anambra and Ekiti States, respectively. Others include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; the National Security Adviser, retired Maj-Gen. Babagana Monguno; and the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar. Buhari’s certificate and the long knives The forum is designed to be the annual meeting for projects, ideas and initiatives which effectively contribute to better international cooperation on the key global issues, fairer and more equitable globalization and a more effective multilateral system. According to organizers, over 70 Heads of State and Government, representatives from the major international organisations and stakeholders from civil society are expected to be among the several thousands of participants. Some 119 projects will be presented at the event. The Paris Peace Forum is part of the drive by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, to reaffirm the importance of multilateralism and collective action in responding to current global challenges. The aim is to strive towards peace through better global governance and promote means of reducing international tensions including cooperation between States to confront cross-boundary challenges, collective management of global common goods and better regulation of the internet and communication. Inspired by the 2015 UN Climate Change Conference, the forum aims to drive forward governance projects by showcasing them, using them as a basis for debates in various formats and promoting networking between project developers and relevant decision makers. The Paris Peace Forum will be centred on five themes: peace and security, the environment, development, digital and new technologies and the inclusive economy.(NAN)

Politics / FG Committed To ILO Standards, Says Minister by Grayxme: 2:10pm On Nov 09, 2018
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Prof. Stephen Ocheni, says the Federal Government is committed to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards on labour practice, social protection and equal opportunity for all.
Ocheni gave this assurance when he received the ILO officials led by Ms Sukti Dasgupta, Chief of the Employment and Labour Branch of ILO, Geneva, on Friday in Abuja. According to him, the Federal Government of Nigeria is irrevocably committed to ILO’s ethics in all its ramifications, especially on social protection and equal opportunity for women, men, physically challenged persons and other groups in the country. Ocheni said that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the National Policy on Employment. The minister said that the government had also expressed its readiness to implement the policy in addition to hosting of the Global Youth Employment Forum. “On the issue of the National Policy on Employment, the Federal Executive Council approved the policy document in 2017 and the National Council for the implementation of this document was recently inaugurated by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige,” he said. The minister of state expressed with delight the government’s willingness to host the Global Youth Employment Forum by 2019, which would coincide with the ILO’s centenary. He said that adequate security will be provided and also assured the delegates of necessary support for successful hosting of the youth forum. Earlier in her remarks, the leader of the delegation, Sukti Dasgupta said Africa needed empowerment and more interventions in the areas of Youth Employment; hence, ILO focuses on Nigeria to host the Global Youth Employment Forum. She also felicitated with Nigerians on the recent agreement reached with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on the new National Minimum Wage. The ILO chief further commended the National Employment Policy, which she described as well drafted. She enjoined the Federal Government to ensure its implementation. (NAN)

With no doubt I will agree with the President on this one. Once a time Boko Haram were freely strolling the streets of Abuja, But now its a thing of the past. About four local Governments in Borno and Yobe were under siege by the Boko Haram but now the communities have reclaim their lands. Also considering the successful military operations set up in the North East to curb the menace of the Boko Haram which have recorded huge success. This achievement on security is indeed commendable

Politics / Atiku Needs Crash Course On Economy, Says Oduduwa Group by Grayxme: 3:30pm On Nov 08, 2018
The Oduduwa Vanguard (ODV) has tackled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for attacking President Muhammadu Buhari over the Federal Government’s $500,000 donation to Guinea Bissau.

Atiku had slammed the Federal Government’s $500,000 donation to Guinea Bissau as wasteful, saying it was one of the ways the Muhammadu Buhari administration brought a once thriving economy to its knees.

However, the Oduduwa Vanguard described Atiku’s comment as "irresponsible on many levels".

Kunle Adewole, President of the group, said Atiku was not qualified to be entrusted with making decisions for Nigerians because he lacks the patience to fully understand issues before reacting.

Adewole said the PDP presidential candidate needs a crash course on the economy before exhibiting his "ignorance".

“We wonder how an Atiku who can donate lavishly to buy cars for women will find it wrong that Nigeria wants to play its big brother role to other African nations.

"This is double standard play at its best and we advise the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, not to join Atiku at the level to which he has sunk. It will amount to wrestling a hog in the mud.

“A right-thinking person that looks beyond the meanness of satiating only his own avarice would have seen that there are gains to Nigeria when the donations to Guinea Bissau are well-exploited.

“For one, a revived Guinea Bissau or any other African country provides fertile grounds for Nigerians to go exploit since we fortunately have enterprising Nigerians that have made marks for themselves in their places of sojourn. We believe that helping other nations to stay afloat when we can is a strategic way of ensuring that our country’s huge population is able to spread outwards to these other places and earn their keep. An intelligent person will realize that remittances from the funds repatriated by such Nigerians will go a long way in helping the economy back home.

“It is understandable that Atiku is projecting his own values unto others because this kind of donation would have found its way into private pockets between 1999 and 2007 when he was vice president. The absence of such slush fund must have been responsible for his recent gimmick of under declaring his income so that he can keep back some more money from tax avoidance.

“But we ask for once that he should believe in the capacity of other people to be upright where he is crooked. Such realistic perception of others would have made him to realize that the money promised to Guinea Bissau is not the type wasted on sponsoring team members to Dubai or for paying a foreign agent to procure election hacking services from Russia.

“By using 'Father Christmas', a concept synonymous with contemporary Christianity, to imply wastefulness, Atiku has shown that he holds the spirit of giving among adherents of this religion in disdain hence the negative casting of the joy that Father Christmas brings to the world.”

Politics / President Buhari’s Achievement Under-reported – Organisation by Grayxme: 2:51pm On Nov 08, 2018
Mr Tom Ohikere, the Deputy National Chairman (North), All Progressives Congress (APC) support group, says the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is under reported. Ohikere who doubles as the National Coordinator of the Broom Platform, another APC media support group, stated this while speaking on Wednesday in Abuja. He said that there was the need to project the administration’s achievements to the public ahead of the 2019 general elections. This, he said, was the reason the platform was planning to undertake a media tour of the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He, however, said that the tour which was earlier schedule to commence on Nov. 5, had been rescheduled to a date to be made public later. He explained that the reason the tour was rescheduled, was for the platform to streamline its activities with that of the APC as it prepares for the 2019 electioneering campaign. According to him, the rescheduling is necessary to conform to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guideline on campaign time table. Ohikere said the tour would produce physical evidence to authenticate the development claims of the APC across the states of the federation. He added that the tour would ensure a comprehensive media appraisal and documentary of the laudable projects of Buhari and the APC governors. He said that it was also to complement APC on publicity, saying that the team would focus on achievements on infrastructure development. He said that they would focus on areas of housing, health, power, transportation, agriculture and education. “We are going to show Nigerians the impact analysis of what the government has done and its policy of continuity. “President Buhari has continued the projects left and abandoned by successive governments and this is a landmark achievement,’’ he said. Ohikere stressed that the platform owed the APC a moral obligation to contribute its quota towards its electoral victory in 2019. He maintained that the APC-led Federal Government had recorded tremendous successes in governance by investing huge financial resources in key sectors of the economy. He said it was, however, regrettable that the achievements of the administration was under reported, adding that the public had been misinformed most times. “It is therefore, our observation that a lot still needs to be done in the areas of public awareness and citizens’ orientation on the “monumental achievements of our great party across the country,” he said. Ohikere said the media tour, which would include both local and international media organisations, would provide an excellent opportunity to ascertain the stages of infrastructure provided by the Federal Government. According to him, pictorial facts collected during the tour will be compiled in a publication to be circulated during the APC Presidential and governorship campaigns ahead of 2019 general elections. He said the platform had planned to host the APC International Media Stakeholders Summit to address the media challenges inherent in the elections. This, he said, was aimed at initiating capable platforms for combating fake news and hate speeches as well as mobilising media support. “We promise to make this public project evaluation a very robust infrastructure impact benefits analysis of the APC administration,’’ he said. Ohikere, also said that the platform had already entered into a partnership with NAN to give visibility to the tour as well as project the APC-led administration’s achievements. The Broom Platform is one of APC’s media support groups.(NAN)

Politics / Nigerians Wouldn’t Be Bordered About Who Is In Power If PDP Had Done Their Job– by Grayxme: 4:01pm On Nov 07, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over the leadership of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that ruled the country for sixteen years, arguing that Nigerians wouldn’t have been bordered about who is in power, but rather mind their businesses if PDP had used the nations resources very well. President Buhari Speaking when a group from the South-east part of the county under the aegis of One on One Nigeria, visited him on Tuesday night, Buhari opined, “We are trying to organize the country. The extent of mismanagement we met when we came was mind-boggling. “Many times, I have spoken about the tremendous resources available to us between 1999 and 2014, and how it was frittered. If only they had used just 25% of it on infrastructure; road, rail, power, Nigerians would mind their own businesses, and not bother about whoever was in power. The casualty figure on our roads daily is simply scandalous. No wonder they are in opposition now, despite all the power they thought they had.” The group, led by Chief Chido Obidiegwu, said it had keenly observed the strides of the Buhari administration nationwide, particularly in the South-east, “and it is now payback time.” According to Obidiegwu, “We have seen the work being done on the long-abandoned Second Niger Bridge, roads are being constructed in many parts of the region, and we believe there is every reason to support you for a second term.” Describing President Buhari as the “grandfather of war against indiscipline and corruption, nightmare of insurgents, Mr Food Security, consolation to pensioners, and Mr Frugality,” the group said it was going to mobilize South-easterners to massively vote for him, believing that one good turn would then deserve another in 2023. bombs critics The One on One Nigeria promised to mobilize youth groups, women, artisans, traders, religious groups to massively vote for President Buhari, adding that it had all it takes – “courage, drive, verve and vitality.” Seven men and two women represented One on One Nigeria during the visit.

Politics / Keyamo Lists 20 Reasons Why Atiku's N97/litre Fuel Price Is Impossible by Grayxme: 5:10pm On Nov 06, 2018
Festus Keyamo, Director, Strategic Communications, of the President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, on Monday night criticised ATiku ABubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Pary (PDP), over his claim that he would lower the pump price of petrol to N77/litre if elected President.

According to Keyamo, there is no chance any President could sell the product for any price in the region of what is being mentioned by Atiku, as the landing price is alone if N205/litre.

"Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to the PDP a few days ago that its presidential candidate, H.E. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will, if elected President, crash the pump price of petrol to N97 per litre. However, there is no better evidence of desperation and phantom promises by the main opposition’s candidate than this statement," he said.

"At today’s international price of gasoline, no supplier will ever contemplate any scheme that will deliver products at such ridiculous price. Those in the sector reading this must be having a good laugh at the opposition. A simple check at the international prices will show that even at the world market where gasoline is procured, it will cost not less than N158 to procure a litre of crude oil. When you add the cost of refining, plus freight, finance and port charges (premium), there is no magic that one would employ to supply the finished product at N145 a litre. Presently, the landing cost of the product in Nigeria hovers around N205 per litre.

"The claim by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is opportunism of the highest order. Nigerians are aware that higher crude oil prices will translate to higher government revenues and a prudent administration will convert the resources to the benefit of the common man.

"This is exactly what President Muhammadu Buhari has done since he mounted the saddle in 2015. The President has worked out a transparent system whereby the whole subsidy regime and scam has been totally eliminated. There is no cash incentive or payment again to middlemen."

Keyamo then went on to itemise the President’s "transparent policy", in 20 points showing the impossibility of Atiku's postulations, as follows:

(1) What obtained under the past government was the ABUSE of the subsidy regime.

(2) The system under the past Government was that independent marketers and all sort of persons were allowed to import petroleum products on their own, declare non-existent volumes of these products and get paid for these non-existent volumes.

(3) In addition, government would then pay them cash for the “loses” (subsidy) in selling at fixed market price.

(4) Under this old system, more than N3trillion was lost.

(5) However, when these independent marketers could no longer bring in products due to high prices of crude and make profit at the fixed market price of N145 to a litre, President Buhari refused to further raise the price of petroleum products beyond the N145 per litre. The President was also not prepared to go back to the subsidy regime. Therefore, President Buhari stopped the scam of overblown volumes and subsidy payments to middlemen.

(6) As a result, NNPC took full charge of getting products for consumption.

(7) Under this arrangement, NNPC would swap crude oil for the exact value of finished products in refineries anywhere the products are available around the world.

(cool Middlemen are only allowed to go and ferry the products and bring into the country and hand over to NNPC.

(9) NNPC will only then pay them for the cost of the logistics of bringing the products in (this is what is called premium).

(10) Even this cost of logistics is now subject to competitive bidding unlike before.

(11) In the past, marketers used to charge $86 per metric ton as cost of logistics (premium) to bring in products.

(12) Under Buhari’s regime when it was subjected to competitive bidding, the highest the government got was $7 per metric ton as cost of logistics to bring in products. More than N3billion has been saved by this bidding process.

(13) Having gotten the value of the crude oil back in terms of finished products, NNPC will now sell at government controlled price which is far lower than the landing cost.

(14) Presently, the landing cost is around N205 per litre, but government sells at N145 per litre.

(15) Therefore, Government just records a loss in NNPC instead of paying cash to middlemen. That loss it suffers is fully reflected when NNPC pays money into the Federation Account.

(16) This also further affects the money accruing to States monthly from the Federation Account.

(17) As a result, this loss that NNPC suffers, (which is recorded as cost of operation of NNPC) is fully subjected to scrutiny by the National Economic Council which also includes the PDP Governors and the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC), which includes Commissioners of Finance from PDP States.

(18) If anybody alleges a scam in the process, then the PDP Governors and the States would also be involved because they are involved in jointly scrutinizing the records of NNPC at NEC and FAAC.

(19) No cash settlement for any under recovery is involved, therefore there is no basis for any subsidy payments which is the avenue for fraud.

(20) Therefore, it is true that Buhari is not paying subsidy to anybody.

Politics / I Know The Condition Of Our Roads; I Have Big Plans For Them – Buhari by Grayxme: 4:11pm On Nov 06, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari, Monday decried the poor condition of Nigerian roads and promised to remedy the condition. Speaking with members of the Association of Retired Career Ambassadors of Nigeria (ARCAN) led by Ambassador Oladapo Fafowora, Buhari blamed the poor infrastructural development to the past administrations inefficiency, noting that his administration would do everything possible to fix Nigeria. The President told the retired Ambassadors that Nigerians will never forget the ‘‘lost opportunity between 1999 and 2015,’’ when the nation had huge resources at its disposal. 2019: More headache for APC as mass defection looms ”There is no part of the country I haven’t been to, having attempted to be President four times. ”I know the condition of our roads. The rails were literally killed, there was no power despite the admittance of some previous leadership that they spent $16 billion on the sector. ”Today, we are getting our priorities right and we believe that of the three fundamental issues we campaigned on – security, the economy and fighting corruption-, we have remained very relevant and Nigerians believe we have achieved something,” the President said. President Buhari also used the occasion to appreciate the People’s Republic of China for financing some of the rail and power projects in the country through concessionary loans. ”I will do my best to see that where there are possibilities of making a quick improvement on infrastructure, we will do it,” he said. President Buhari also appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to consider what this government inherited and the more it is doing with fewer resources in putting the economy right. 2019: The President took note of some concerns raised by the retired Ambassadors including an appeal for the adjustment of their pension entitlements, retention of diplomatic passport for retired career ambassadors, allocation of land for ARCAN headquarters in Abuja and adequate funding of the Foreign Affairs ministry, among others.

Keyamo Keyamo, spokesman said the landing cost of the product is around N205 and it is impossible to sell at a lesser N97. “At today’s international price of gasoline, no supplier will ever contemplate any scheme that will deliver products at such ridiculous price,” the statement read. “Those in the sector reading this must be having a good laugh at the opposition. A simple check at the international prices will show that even at the world market where gasoline is procured, it will cost not less than N158 to procure a litre of crude oil. When you add the cost of refining, plus freight, finance and port charges (premium), there is no magic that one would employ to supply the finished product at N145 a litre. Presently, the landing cost of the product in Nigeria hovers around N205 per litre.” “This is exactly what President Muhammadu Buhari has done since he mounted the saddle in 2015. The President has worked out a transparent system whereby the whole subsidy regime and scam has been totally eliminated. There is no cash incentive or payment again to middlemen,”. “The system under the past Government was that independent marketers and all sort of persons were allowed to import petroleum products on their own, declare non-existent volumes of these products and get paid for these non-existent volumes. “In addition, government would then pay them cash for the “loses” (subsidy) in selling at fixed market price. “Under this old system, more than N3trillion was lost. However, when these independent marketers could no longer bring in products due to high prices of crude and make profit at the fixed market price of N145 to a litre, President Buhari refused to further raise the price of petroleum products beyond the N145 per litre. “The President was also not prepared to go back to the subsidy regime. Therefore, President Buhari stopped the scam of overblown volumes and subsidy payments to middlemen.”

Politics / 2019 Polls: President Buhari Will Defeat Atiku – Lawyer by Grayxme: 3:06pm On Nov 06, 2018
Abuja – Mr Realwan Okpanachi, a legal practitioner and political analyst, says President Muhammadu Buhari will defeat Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential elections. President M Buhari and Atiku Okpanachi said Buhari will win his traditional strongholds, the North East and North West with a landslide because the people trusted and believed in his integrity, his greatest asset. The lawyer said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. Outlining reasons for his position, Okpanachi said that the president has recorded some laudable achievements in the last three years. “The president has provided infrastructures in the North East and North West; has also met their desire in terms of security with the decimation of Boko Haram and cattle rustlers. “He has been able to institutionalise agriculture across the country, particularly in the two zones, whose economy depends largely on agriculture,’’ he said. The analyst said Buhari is well loved in these two zones because the common people display the pictures of leaders they love on their tricycles, bikes and buses. “Pictures or photographs they largely display are those of Buhari and in some cases, that of Rabiu Kwankwaso and the late Gen. Sani Abacha. “You hardly see pictures of Atiku, and by their conduct the late Abacha is even more popular than Atiku in these two zones,’’ he said. He opined that as far as these two zones are concerned, Atiku is only sure of winning Taraba, and that he is not even sure of winning his home state, Adamawa. Analysing further, Okpanachi said in 2019, Buhari will win the south west because his party, the APC, is in total control of the zone. He stressed that the president’s performance in the south west which in term of infrastructure include; the Lagos-Ibadan rail line, Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Oworoshoki-Apapa road. He pointed out that president Buhari has “been able to resolve the perennial problem of pipeline vandals in Ilepo-Ikorodu within Ogun-Lagos. According to the analyst, more importantly there is a realistic hope that someone from that zone will succeed Buhari in 2023. “It is pertinent to state that the PDP is not on ground in the south west and they cannot depend on an association like Afenifere to win elections. “Obasanjo is no longer in power and his relevance and power is very limited,’’ Okpanachi said. He maintained that Lagos, with the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria is largely a free zone for the APC as “PDP is dead in the state.’’ Regarding the north central zone, the analyst said it used to be the PDP stronghold until it was conquered by the APC in 2015. Okpanachi said the president will emerge victorious in Niger, Nasarawa, and may win Kogi, while Atiku will win Benue, Kwara and may likely win Plateau state. He said the south south and south east zones are traditionally PDP zones, yet the APC has made some serious incursion into these zones. He said such states include; Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu as well as Rivers. “Besides, the president has provided important infrastructure in these zones which include, but not limited to Enugu-Aba road, Enugu-Aba-Porthacourt road. “Others are: East-West road, 2nd Niger bridge and coastal rail line. Even the Ogoni land is being cleaned up by president Buhari.’’ he said. (NAN)
