PoliticsRe: Have You Given Up On Nigeria? by hamsky: 5:01pm On May 10, 2012
I have given up on the intergrity of the country because it was "designed" by Lord lugard to be a colonial territory and not a country. Even though the british governor at that time warned Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe and Tafawa balewa about this they still carried on, I guess they were too anxious to create a country they can call there own (in the context of being citizens of it). However I havn't given up on the fact that Nigeria is the only place a nigerian can become really really rich (I don't mean looting oil or government's money) but the land is it very fertile for fast growing investments.

ProgrammingRe: Is This What Big IT Firms Do? Please Help Me Out Nairaland Programmers by hamsky: 9:01am On May 09, 2012
I had a very nice idea i spoke to my best friend about it, my friend advised me to go to a very good IT firm that can help me out with it. Not long i got a reputable IT firm here in lagos i told them abt what have got and thier response was positive. I knew they love the idea because the M.D. of the firm kept praising me and never hide his feelings when he said he couldn't believe a young guy like me could come up with such an idea. Unfortunatly they chased me away with the amount they charge me for the project. However few weeks later i discovered that this firm has stolen my idea and have written a program that works exactly like what i presented to them some weeks earlier. and they have even started marketing the program to some big eateries and supermarket here in lagos i got to know this when i saw one of the staff of the firm. Pls advice me on what to do and secondly i want to be connected with a very good web programmer that we can work together.
You have two options here sue them or leave them. I'm not aware of what the Nigeria copyright laws are but I think what I'm about to say is quite general in most cases. If you can proove with facts that the idea was directly stolen from you then you can sue them to court and get them to pay their arses off but bear in mind that this won't be cheap. "In such situations you're always adviced to sign some sort of agreement before disclosing your ideas just in case things turn out this way". Personally I don't think you should sit down and do nothing about it cos this little idea could turn out to be a billion dollar idea tomorrow and then you'll bite your fingers and cry. I know there are some people who think that you should just let it be but as a computer scientist I know how difficult it is to come up good ideas (it takes ages cos most things have already been done). Good Luck!

Car TalkRe: Buying A Second Hand Car In Germany by hamsky:
@olanshi : email sent

@hamsky : tks for your reply, it feels better knowing I can get some info in english. What about the 'paperwork' once I choose the car, is it in english too or will I have to sign papers in german? I was thinking of going to hamburg, berlin or frankfurt. Is it easy to go around with public transportation/taxi, I'm a bit worried since I won't have much time to spend there...
To be very sincere I don't know if documentaions can be done in english but I won't be surprise if it can be done cos of the english speaking population there. My advice will be once you find a car dealer, before purchasing the car you want ask them how easy it will be to ship it from were they are and the documentation required so as not to have any problems. As regards to transportaion I'd assume public transport will be more cheaper as it is in most european countries but might not be the best option for you since you're new in town (except you're very good with map reading you might get lost as it in most situations...lol), however its worth trying. Here's a list of taxi fares for the cities you'll be visiting:

Berlin (Taxi Start(Normal Tariff)=3.17 € | Taxi 1km (Normal Tariff)= 1.79 € | Taxi 1hour waiting (Normal Tariff)=25.37 €)
Frankfurt (Taxi Start(Normal Tariff)=2.80 € | Taxi 1km (Normal Tariff)= 1.65 € | Taxi 1hour waiting (Normal Tariff)=21.00 €)
Hamburg (Taxi Start(Normal Tariff)=2.80 € | Taxi 1km (Normal Tariff)= 1.66 € | Taxi 1hour waiting (Normal Tariff)=26.33 €)

Here's also a link to the city's (Berlin) BVG bus transport website were you can find loads of information about bus timings/numbers and you can plan your trip before hand:http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/17105/name/Bus.html . You can also use the metro which I reckon will be quite convenient for you since you'll be travelling to other cities (There are free mini maps in the train station you can use to understand the route).

Car TalkRe: Buying A Second Hand Car In Germany by hamsky: 8:32pm On May 07, 2012
Be rest assured that a lot of Germans understand English because of the presence of many Brits and Americans (cos of world war two), I was even surprise when i went their last year. Most signs are translated to English so u should be fine. As regards to finding where or how to buy a car you can ask your hotel manager or host,I reckon there are loads of car dealerships in Berlin. You can also buy a detailed city guide like their own version of Yellow pages from the airport when you get there to get a list car dealerships around you. Bear in mind that some businesses close on Sundays unlike England were its d other way round. Godspeed.

Don't get me wrong I'm a massive Samsung Galaxy fan but I sincerely think that samsung didn't do enough with the design of the phone. For goodness sake when will they stop making super phone that look cheap. In the looks department the HTC kills the samsung but when it comes to features the samsung I must confess is way ahead of its time, don't even mention the wireless charging feature or the 64gb option.....Wicked is word to sum it all up

PoliticsRe: Why Do Criminals Hold Political Postions In Nigeria by hamsky: 11:19pm On Apr 18, 2012
The answer to your question is because we Nigerians put them there. 3/4 of the Nigerian population don't really understand what democracy is all about because it was imposed upon us. We say Nigeria is a democratic country when we still have people in uniform oppressing civilians and even killing them just like it was during the military era. China is one of the most successful countries we have today because it runs on its own system of governance and not the so called Western democracy. The bottom line is that we are being ruled in a system that is not coherent with our values. To prove this right, why do you think we raised a lot of eyebrows when we put a ban on homosexualism? When you're able to answer this questing you'd understand what I'm really talking about. As far as I'm concerned Nigeria will never have good and competent leaders under this current system of governance.
