Mayour11: Boss, I no gree at all o, for one department in Funaab, 6 people graduated with a first class, now, do you think the school can retain them. Except your school is not sure of its products. In reality universities dont generally allow their first class students to go elsewhere. Those are the real 'greater tomorrow' of every institution. |

Every first class graduate is an automatic employee of his university of graduation as a lecturer assistant while he pursues his Ph.d. Except he chooses to go get work elsewhere. So there is no he won't get a job. Infact having a first class has nullified all the local juju powers. Again except the guy does not wanna start from somewhere. |

Zeemoor: What's your thought on marriage? I'd like to know Do you believe in it, do you ever want to be married/are you married already? Do you have a jaded view of marriage? I hold my views about everything in life including the institution of marriage. Unfortunately those views may be viewed as aggressive especially considering the enquiry is to be analyzed, interpreted and judged by you alone. When there is thread to that effect, i will contribute. Then my opinion and views will be assessed by all making contributions at that point in time. Good afternoon. |

OrlandoOwoh: I may have misunderstood what Olusegun Obasanjo meant. This is the exact thing he said in lines 13-15 of page 22 in his book, My Command. "Buhari finally moved into Nkalagu on 13 November after inflicting heavy losses in men and equipment on the rebels." There is no where the fleeing rebels were called civilians. The rebels in like manner inflicted a heavy loss in men and equipment on the federal forces in Abagana. Federal forces at Abagana were military men far away from their wives and children. Nkalagu was a home to the much touted rebels who were being decimated even while they were running as defenceless civillians. Please note i am only clarifying a point. I am not interested in politics and dont care who leads your crappy nation. They all remain fingers on a leprous hand to me. |
Nairaland General › Re: This Begging Business! by hardbody: 3:55pm On Nov 15, 2014 |
CoCoLav: I went to UNILAG some days ago and on my way back from my faculty a guy approached me and begged for transport money that he is stranded. I just sighed because I had less than #300 on me that day. I asked him how come he was stranded and what department he was, he said he was in Industrial Chemistry and his money finished. Asked if he doesn't stay in the hostel and he said he does but he needed to go home to get something.
Considering that it was a Friday, I had to believe him and when I asked how much his fare was he said #300. I was like ahhhhh I cant afford that oo so i gave him #100. A part of me felt he lied because there's no way a student won't have someone to borrow #300 from but I didn't feel bad about giving him because there was a time a guy had begged me for money to eat and I felt it was scam and didn't gjve him. Its over 2 years and I still feel bad about it and wish I could have helped him out because I had the money. There are times those pleas are genuine. I was coming back to Lagos years ago as a student and all my money was stolen while i was scrambling to join a bus. On the way i was sooo thirsty. So when we stopped at the usual point for refreshment i told a certain guy to spare me some change for pure water. I was not even talking about food. It was with a heavy betrayed heart that i monitored the guy eating and then buying suya and then his drinks but to spare me N10 never happened. It dawned on me that he probably did not believe me. Today i hand out help to people because sometimes they may be genuine. But as for the brazen liars , shishi i no dey give. |
Nairaland General › Re: This Begging Business! by hardbody: 3:44pm On Nov 15, 2014 |
Smartiegurl: Just recently, at one of the parks in Onitsha on my way to Aba. I watched with keen interest as three suit-wearing and bible-clutching men compete amongst one another the first to pray for the occupants of the buses b4 their departures. Then, one came to our bus and prayed for forgiveness of sins, for success in our various endeavours and also for journey mercies. "Amen!" we chorused at required intervals. Then he asked for money to finance his good works for God. He left for other buses to win more souls (for himself i guess) and then another came with an even more powerful lines of prayers. Again, we (they) made contributions for his services.
This style of money-making by such "prayer-peddlars" has worsened over the years. Their modus operandi vary, for eg, one may board the bus along other passengers. He preaches, prays and collects his revenue on transit and then alights at a given junction making way for another of his cronies to join the bus as the journey continues.
This "disguised" begging business must be very lucrative especially when one considers the risk involved and skills exhibited by such practioners. Some time ago, I equally saw some physically challenged (if truly they were) persons on their wheel-chairs lined up at the middle of the Niger-bridge express way chasing after motorists moving at top speeds for alms.
The list for such begging excesses abound! Initially, i'm usually dumb-founded whenever i come across these brazen display. But on the realization that this is Nigeria where anything can happen, i now look at them in awe! Have u witnessed any other begging ploy? Pls share ur story. Other begging ploy is by full fledged babes asking for recharge cards. The modes and methods are numerous but the end feeling remains degrading . On topic, the few times it happened while i was in d bus, i never joined in the prayers or said amen to them and i never had and never will them money. Paul the apostle said with his hands he worked out what he fed with and even take care of those close by. They should stop lazying about and go get busy with meaningful jobs including farming |
