ignis: Ever heard of private hospitals?
Ok. So they went on strike from government hospitals so they can improve on the number of people that will have no choice than to access the private hospitals? In that process, the poor and indigent are further denied of an otherwise accessible medical care. I see the reasoning. That Oath they take is actually 'Hypocritical' especially in the Nigerian context.

As for the lady that has been reported dead, i have had the benefit of additional information as to why she died. I salute her courage and the sacrifice she made to save 170 million Nigerians who would all or mostly have been consumed by the scourge if the index carrier had been allowed to leave or escape from the hospital.

I understand she practically held the man down physically (with apparent knowledge of the consequences of her action and also the effects of any inaction at that point in time). May God remember her for good and may this silly country of ours immortalize her.

By the way, IGNIS, when next you disrespect me by asking me question like a KG pupil........

infolekan: The good thing about all of this is that.....when the game is over, THE DOCTOR will still smile last.
The sack is a joke of course.
There's no hospital that is running, no Federal Hospital at least.
Let the simpleton keep beating the war drums and setting precedence.....it all goes around.
It's unlikely you'll find an unemployed Doctor anywhere in the country...he might be dissatisfied with his job but definitely not jobless.
Jonathan can be very stubborn and we all know that... the subsidy case, UNILAG to MAULAG is a case study.
The ASUU strike is still fresh. With all the posturing and all...he'll still bend backwards.
I'm sure the chorus then will be that the Doctors begged but the important thing is to look closely at the 24 point request and you'll be surprised that most of those requests will be granted. This sack is a diversion just to fool the uninformed.
THE END IS MORE IMPORTANT
Let me know when you wake up. For now, the snoring sound you are making is defeaning

Car Talk › Re: 4 Filling Station Tips To Avoid Getting Ripped Off by hardbody: 12:03am On Aug 19, 2014
Mobsync: 1. Open your tank yourself

The easiest way to be cheated in a filling station is by remaining in your car while the attendant sells his stuff. Stretching your neck backwards to look at the meter while seated in your car is very uncomfortable. Besides, you could get carried away easily and believe me, most attendants bank on this.

Don't be lazy, get down and open your tank yourself (irrespective of whether it’s opened from inside your car or manually), still get down, it isn't that stressful. Walk towards the attendant, greet him politely, smile and watch him carry out his job alternating your eyes between the meter and nozzle (the nozzle is the long hose he dips into your car). Stay beside him all through and monitor all activities closely, don't get distracted and watch out for those people that come towards the attendant with jerry cans.

And should you need to urinate, urinate before you purchase or after you purchase, not during the purchase.

2. Make sure the pump isn't working before you're attended to

Once the machine is off irrespective of whether the meter is rubbed or not, the machine begins it's sales form zero but if it's on, it begins from the figure showing on the meter. That's one of the reasons why you're advised to get down from your vehicle. And yes, I know, the machine makes a loud buzzing noise when it's running but unfortunately, some are so silent that the only way you know they're on is when you stand close to it.

Let me give you an example; an attendant sells fuel say N200 to a commercial motorcyclist (don't laugh, that's how the "okada" men buy their things, some even buy N50 fuel). Your vehicle is parked beside the motorcyclist and since you're too lazy to get down or too distracted, the guy just dips the nozzle into your car and continues from the N200 he stopped for the motorcyclist and that's it. He's cheated you of N200 and this is the exact reason why you should also insist on the number 3 tip below.

3. Make sure the attendant programs before selling to you

Filling stations are filled with so much conspiracies that we sometimes don't know what to believe and what not to believe. Back then, customers actually told me that I shouldn't program as it shortchanges them. Like I explained in another article: 7 shocking facts about Nigerian filling stations, filling station pumps are not 100% accurate, even when new. It either shortchanges the customer or the seller but I tell you, this amount is negligible (about 0.5%; give or take).

When an attendant programs, the machine restarts all the way from zero and the example I gave you in number 2 above becomes impossible as the attendant needs to stop the machine in order to program it.

A pump can be programmed in 2 ways; "L" and "P". L stands for litre and P for price. Most attendants use "P" since most people buy with price. If you want to buy N2000 fuel for example, the attendant simply puts the machine in "P" and presses 2000. If you look at the small side board where the attendant programs, you'll see "P 2000" (although some machines also show this on the meter board) and if you want to buy 2000 litres, you'll see "L 2000". By the time the attendant starts selling, the meter automatically starts from zero again and must stop working when your sales is complete.

“Stop” here does not only mean the machine would just stop dispensing fuel but it would also stop making the buzzing noise altogether. If it's still making the buzzing noise (that means it's still on), then you're probably being cheated.

4. Look at the meter

What else do I need to say about this? Before purchase, during purchase and after purchase, look at the meter, it's your money, confirm it, don't be shy, no dulling wink.

After doing 1-4 and you still feel shortchanged, then it means the attendant still managed to outmaneuver you (which is unlikely) or the meter's inaccurate. In the article: 7 shocking facts about Nigerian filling stations, I explained that the likelihood of the attendant adjusting the meter is almost zero as the adjustment is usually a collaboration between the station manager and owner. And no, it's not the filling station with most commercial bus drivers and motorcyclists as customers that has the best meters, that depend entirely on location, nothing else. Where I worked, the meter was bad but we still made a lot of sales due to our strategic location.

To know a filling station with a good meter, take a new 10 litre jerry can (an old one is usually overstretched and bulges by the sides while the 5 litre kegs are usually inaccurate) and buy 10 litres (not N1000 but N970) worth of fuel. If the fuel's almost touching the round inlet, then it means the meter's okay but if it doesn't, it means the meter's isn't. The farther it is from the inlet, the worse the meter is.

I believe you would be able to avoid being cheated in filling stations if you employ all these tactics mentioned above. Besides always buy a reasonable amount of fuel because N1,000 fuel bought on 10 different occasions burns faster than N10,000 fuel bought at once. So stop deceiving yourself.

How come I am just realizing you were a fuel attendant and claiming you were an upstream o and g worker. You almost fooled,me

other than for surgeries where some still forget instruments in your stomach, these guys know no better than most of us.i haven't seen any doctor in the past at least 20 years. The secret for me is simple. While I try to be careful about my health, I google any symptoms I have, I get the exact kind of drugs I need at the right prescriptions, buy across the counter at standard pharmaceutical shops and whabam, I am as strong as a fiddle. The doctors don't even know enough to determine with any precision what my issues may be. They prescribe all sorts, ask you come back after some days so they can check whether their trial and error worked.if it did not work, they will make another trial thereby turning one into a guinea pig of sorts. Even tests are not final, as the doctors themselves will ask you to seek a second opinion and even a third. They should go and die with their overbloated ego and sense of importance. E don be for them. They should hit d streets and search for the ever evasive jobs

What you do as hands on is different from what you studied except in specialized fields such as medicine, engineering and law. In these professions, the rudiments of the course place you differently from others. A BSc bis Admin guy is better suited for that banking job than a banking and finance graduate.

jdilight: 1. History

9.5 percent unemployment rate*

They say those who don't learn history are bound to repeat it. But if you believe the Georgetown study, those who major in it could be bound for the unemployment line.

Why These Grads May Have It Tough: Sorenson says that there is little opportunity for historians in today's job market. "Historians, appraisers, preservationists, etc. These are very niche markets with highly skilled and knowledgeable individuals who are called to the scene when needed for fact-checking or accuracy, not a long-term role with a growing company in today's economy," he says.

2. Fine Arts

10.1 percent unemployment rate

If you have your heart set on a fine arts major, it might take a lot to change your mind. Still, you should be prepared for the harsh reality you might face post-graduation, since this major has a high unemployment rate, according to the Georgetown study.

Why These Grads May Have It Tough: Sorenson says that despite being very self-fulfilling this degree may not be specific enough to attract employment. "For instance, if [students] want to work in design or be a creative director, they'll need a more specific skill set such as graphic design and creative writing to be a successful ‘artist,'" he says. And if you want to be an artist, skill and your work is most important, not a degree, explains Sorenson.

3. Economics

10.4 percent unemployment rate

With all the airtime that news programs spend on the economy, you'd think this degree would be a sure thing. But you'd be wrong. Just take a look at that double digit unemployment rate found by the Georgetown study.

Why These Grads May Have It Tough: "...The education you receive [in economics] is based mostly in theory, making your knowledge difficult to apply to the real world of employment," says David Bakke, a career expert at Money Crashers, a website devoted to career and personal finance advice. For example, he says finance majors may beat you out for jobs in the world of finance; accounting majors have specific skills for accountant positions; and so on.

4. Anthropology & Archeology

12.6 percent unemployment rate

These are intellectual, fascinating, and noble degrees. Unfortunately, a diploma - not a career - might be the only treasure these majors yield after graduation judging from their high unemployment rate in the Georgetown study.

Why These Grads May Have It Tough: There is not much demand for field work, and teaching the subjects in colleges and universities demands a higher degree than a bachelor's, says Bakke. As for the general job market? "These types of degrees are considered to be too grounded in academia for them to have any real value in the business world," he says.

5. Information Systems

14.7 percent unemployment rate

We live in the Information Age, so you'd think that a major with the word "information" in it would mean a promising job outlook for its grads, right? Well, the Georgetown report found otherwise. This major had the highest unemployment rate out of all the college majors in the study.

Why These Grads May Have It Tough: "The true nature of information systems is to improve the efficiency of a business, so once the system is put into place, your services may or may not be required on a long-term basis," says Tony Sorenson, CEO of the executive and staff recruiting firm Versique Search & Consulting. As a result, there is less demand for new and lesser-experienced information systems professionals, he explains.

http://education.yahoo.net/articles/degrees_that_employers_hate.htm?kid=1O2H5
If you have a second class upper degree in any of those courses and succesfully write and pass entry qualification exams into Banks, O&G companies, Consultancy firms, FMCGs, etc, you can aspire to become a Managing Director some day, irrespective of the degree acquired. The best MDs in Banks never studied Banking and Finance, egg heads in Consultancy firms did not all study Management related courses. A first degree gives all graduates a general view of functional literacy and education, what you become thereafter is subject to what you make of the next set of opportunities that come your way.

Meanwhile, for those who do not quite get it, Economics is one of the most versatile courses there could ever be. It opens up an endless vista into a world of opportunities. For the avoidance of doubt, I did not study Economics or even the behavioural sciences but i know from experience that it is a wonderful course to study (in Nigeria at least).

JAMB doesn't frustrate anyone's efforts. You are either well prepared or not. You are second class outside your state and tribe bro. I have contributed so much in Lagos by the massive tax i am paying here, and although i have spent so long and even have a house, everyday i am reminded i am not a son of the soil. All i have done is pay for a land and build on it, some cretins will still remind me that i am from the East (as if i dont know whereas i travel there more than 7 times a year). Forms still ask for State of Origin even for people who have only known the state where they were born and have probably never visited wherever their parents came from. Go to the North and tell them you are not from there and see how soon the almajiris decapitate your head in the slightest confusion, and it just goes on. There is no feeling of belonging in any state outside your regular state of birth.

With the exception of Lagos State where Nwabueze has been recognized and given an opportunity to showcase his talent and brilliance, tell me where else Non-Indigenes are accorded any form of political recognition. Can I as an Igbo man contest for election as the Chairman in a local government i have spent all my life in Lagos? Meanwhile Nigerians become Mayors in Counties abroad. Infact what you buy in the market is affected by price once the seller knows you cannot speak a particular language. This country is fvcked. I have lost faith, i swear.

It does not mean i dont make my living here, it is just that we could have been much better than what we are and where we are now.
