Your vast population without an equivalent productivity should be a reason Nigeria should be buried in shame.
You have the population
you have the resources
you have the land mass

yet all of these cannot amount to income

gross shame!
exactly the claim population is a disadvantage, but yet all countries with more population than us are doing far better i mean far better. there are more poor countries with small population than poor countries with large population

Do those countries have the same people to feed as Nigeria? Are our population comparable? In some cases we are 10 times more in population, so let's be fair in our criticism. Let's. be constructive .
what does population has to do with minimum wage? you guys behave as if you're sick in the brain. more population should be an advantage not a disadvantage. most of the countries with low minimum wages are those with low population.

A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE SHOUTING AND PREACHING THE JAPA PHENOMENON

1-Average cost of rent $2500

2-Phone, electricity, gas, water $500

3-Food Cooking and not eating out 1 person $700

4-Healthcare/Dental, medications,(if not yours budget for your children) $500

5-Transportation (whether you own a car or public transport to work, Car inspections, car registration, fuel, sudden repairs,) $1000

6-Childcare (If you have young children) it can cost up to $1500. Sometimes its cheaper for one spouse to stay at home and tend the kids.

Approx. 10k is needed for 1 grown adult. Thats 15k gross salary. That amounts to $180k/year(before tax is removed)....Some USA doctors do not make this much e.g Pediatricians in university hospitals

These are basics, anyone JAPA-ING without a desirable degree in America e.g, Tech certifications, Nursing, Medical. Will need an American degree to make over 50k a year.
50K a year means 30k after taxes, social security, insurance and retirement. To be able to just live alone, you will need 2 jobs. American jobs are designed to be hectic enough for 1 person/ 1 job in 24hours. If you work 2 jobs a day......Its at the expense of your health/social relationships/family time etc...There is a cost !!!
Even the Tech, nurses, medical will have to pass exams, these exams and preparations could cost $20k with no guarantee of passing.

So the hard part is how can you survive with $40-50k/ year with a basic living cost requiring at least $180k/ year. If you go to school hear, the loans are crippling at 7-8% interests for government loans and even up to 20% for private loans.
Even if you work 2 jobs, which means you leave your house (8am-4pm) (4pm-12am)....This will be at the expense of your health, lifespan, social health. Its not really humanely possible.

Even if you come with a spouse, one of you has to work 2 jobs at the very least, if not both of you. If you work through winter months doing double shifts, you can actually go 4 months without seeing the sun, which results in a lot of mental health issues in Africans, because we were not built for that, and the awareness is not emphasized.

Dont get me wrong its hard in Nigeria, but dont forget, you are coming to a place where their ancestors use to come and kidnap people in Africa for free Labour in the USA as slaves. These mentality has only being finessed over time. However it still exists. Do not be fooled by the few successful JAPA stories. I guarantee you for every one successful JAPA, there are a thousand living from Hand to mouth, paying only bills and taxes around the clock.

I have attached snippets of a reddit column of Americans complaining about the cost of living. Mind you these people went to schools here, so they are better treated and paid in the Labour market. You being a JAPA will be systematically paid less than them most times.

Have you heard the saying "There is no free lunch even in freetown."
In UK, the NHS has a long waiting list, if you need some services done you would have to wait 8 months, if you die before then, thats your problem. For the free healthcare.

In USA, if you dont have health insurance, you contribute $300/month your employer pays $300 total $600, you wont get free healthcare.
If you dont have a job, you will buy health insurance for $500/month and you pay every month wether you are sick or not.

Nigerians have a lot of misconception about everything free abroad. Dey Play.
The people that wanted free labour and came to africa to capture human beings as slave, you think they will be generous to be giving you good life for free.
I see you're confused conjugating USA and UK to confuse me and make me believe your crap...
Is NHS is even available in Nigeria. ?
Health insurance is only 60 dolla per month in UK. It's of different levels and cost on the US and most employer offers free insurance. and wtf about a jobless person paying 500doll for insurance by force. When did paying for insurance become by force? I can see you're clueless.

Do you know what you have to do to earn a 100 DOLLARS ?

Healthcare: Go to the hospital in the dollar country, ordinary headache they will charge you $350 after insurance deductions and co-pay. In Nigeria, there is no hospital that will charge you $10. Some hospital visits abroad can cost you $50000. (Giving birth with C/S, 1 or 2 days of ICU). In Nigeria you wont spend $500.

Education: Come and study in dollar economy let them give you loan with 7% percent compund interests, you will work and die without finish paying for such loans. In Nigeria people study for free and "japa" Thats essentially free human capital, No country in the world allows there manpower to JAPA free of charge.

Public Transportation: Compare the airfares and bus fares, $500 tickets is europe or america if you buy last minute, is a cheap ticket. In naija you can walk into Abuja airport and fly to Lagos last minute, with $100.

Utilities: Electricity, power and water, Have you paid water bill, heating bill $800 before ? You are comparing dollar to naira ?

Telecommunications: Even Internet costs are comparable, phones services, standalone phone servces can cost up to $120 plus taxes for a month. Do you pay that much to sub your phone in a month ?

Certain Agricultural Products: Agricultural produce are cheaper in Nigeria, than any dollar economy. A big Mango can be $3-4, Have you ever bought 1 mango for 5000naira ? Meat is cheaper in Nigeria, food stuff even with the cry is still cheaper than abroad.

Would you rather earn $5000 and have to spend $4995 for bills and living.
Or earn 100,000 naira and spend 50000 naira for bills and living ?
man you're a liar you inflated all those figures to sound dramatic, with $30 you can get unlimited internet, calls and text. you can never get such at that price in nigeria. 24/7 electricity not up to $150 per month stop lying. and in which hospital do you pay $350 for headace (drop image) in a place where healthcare is purposely free as long as you're paying taxes.

you also didnt mention quality of life, and income in those countries. you want to compare the rubbish healthcare in nigeria to the Uk, you deserve serious cane. wt

No economy from 10 years ago have remained the same since then.....

If you can point out one thing that the price or cost have remained the same in the UK, USA, Switzerland or Canada for the past 10 years... I'll gift you 1m ASAP...

The problem with alot of us is that we are still living in the past.....

There are alot of factors responsible for the transformation over the past 10 years...

I know things are inflated in 9ja but what I don't understand is your question of whether things can go back to the way they were......

Can you go back to the way you were 10 years ago??

Here in the UK, a bag of 20kg cement sells for between 10 pounds to 18 pounds.... Convert that to naira..... Not all that glitters is gold.... Things can never go back to the way they were in 9ja.... We can only hope and pray for improvements
Kia don't even go there. 10 pounds is not up to minimum wage per hour in UK. With your daily wage you can buy 10 bags. 3 months minimum wage in Nigeria can't buy up to 10 bags. A whole 90 days not upt to a day wage crazy.

Africans are really suffering and are being taken advantage of by everyone.
yet some idiots here are claiming that data and things is cheaper in Nigeria. Like cc Wxs2. €15 is around N22k+.

You can't even get even get unlimited data for that amount in Nigeria. How much more data, calls text. What?

Considering earnings €15 over there is equivalent to around N200 in Nigeria.

If you get 1gb for N200 in nigeria, thank your lucky stars.

I've read the comments by people following this post, and to be honest, comparing Nigeria and Canada data plans is like comparing oranges to apples and it's not so fair.

For instance, the 1 GB is data at full speed, and goes down to 250kbps when you exhaust that limit, rather than drop to nothing. Also, unlike in Nigeria where everyone is on Whatsapp, we mainly use the regular voice and sms for communicating here. In fact, many Canadians don't even have Whatsapp on their phone. You call businesses, offices etc using the regular phone number and I even know some old folks who only have a landline, so unlimited voice and data is actually a thing here and very relevant.

In addition, most of us have stable unlimited Internet via cable at home, so you don't need to use your mobile data at home. For example, I have unlimited Internet at 1.5Gbps download and we typical use about 4 TB monthly since we stream all entertainment online and I also host Plex server at home that I share with friends to stream from. Coffee shops, malls and some stores also have free wifi you can use in a pinch.

Whether you think the $19 plan is expensive or not in Canada may also depend where you are in you Canada journey. I remember when I first came to Canada over a decade ago, I literarily convert anything I wanted to buy to Naira in my head and compared it to Naija price, but now I only compare the price to my budget and pocket.

For sure, compared to our southern neighbours (USA) , mobile data is more expensive in Canada, but I think we still have better, stable, reliable and comparably cheaper (when compared by minimum wages in both countries) Internet than Nigeria
