Health / Adding Life To Years Instead Of Adding Years To Live (way Forward For Africa) by Hearme(m): 7:24pm On Jun 17, 2015
Africa is in a place of great optimism. Needless to say, there is always conflict in one part of the continent or another but by and large, the future looks bright economically and politically. Democracies are getting more stable and foreign direct investment is becoming increasingly appealing to many international companies.

There is, however, one picture of Africa that is not looking great - health. Firstly, the current life expectancy at birth in Africa is 56 years (53 for Nigeria) compared to the global average of 70 years. This is a very unfortunate reality and one that is expected to improve as more and more communicable diseases are dealt with on the continent.
Communicable diseases are currently the main causes of mortality in Africa.

Secondly, the expected growth in the African economy is set to coincide with an increase in life expectancy. Unfortunately, if nothing is done, this increased prosperity will bring with it non-communicable diseases like obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes due to changes in lifestyle. What we therefore have coming at us is a situation
where people may be adding years to their lives without necessarily adding life to their years. These non-communicable diseases have to be prevented if the growing political stability, increasing economic prosperity and
increasing life expectancy are going to bring blessings rather than mixed blessings.

Health / The Long Term Consequence Of Failing To Treat Diabetes by Hearme(m): 6:56pm On Jun 17, 2015
Heart and blood vessel disease. Diabetes increases the risk of various cardiovascular problems, including coronary artery disease with chest pain (angina), heart attack, stroke, narrowing of arteries (atherosclerosis) and high blood pressure. According to the American Heart Association, The risk of stroke is two to four times higher for people with diabetes, and the death rate from heart disease is two to four times higher for people with diabetes than for people without the disease.

Nerve damage (neuropathy). Excess sugar can injure the walls of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) that nourish your nerves, especially in the legs. This can cause tingling, numbness, burning or pain that usually begins at the tips of the toes or fingers and gradually spreads upward. This can lead to loss of all sense of feeling in the affected limbs if sugar level is poorly controlled.

Kidney damage (nephropathy). The kidneys contain millions of tiny blood vessel clusters that filter waste from your blood. Diabetes can damage this delicate filtering system. Severe damage can lead to kidney failure or irreversible end-stage kidney disease, requiring dialysis or a kidney transplant.

Eye damage. Diabetes can damage the blood vessels of the retina (diabetic retinopathy), potentially leading to blindness. Diabetes also increases the risk of other serious vision conditions, such as cataracts and glaucoma.

Foot damage. Nerve damage in the feet or poor blood flow to the feet increases the risk of various foot complications. Left untreated, cuts and blisters can become serious infections and severe damage might require toe, foot or even leg amputation.
Skin and mouth conditions. Diabetes may leave you more susceptible to skin problems, including bacterial and fungal infections. Gum infections also may be a concern, especially if you have a history of poor dental hygiene.

lawyer:
Nonsense. This is a sponsored post by an OPC or Niger Delta Militant sympathizer who has benefited immensely from the Billions of Naira given to them by the GEJ administration. Your contract has been revoked and you can do nothing about it. The Nigerian Armed forces will now have to play its role in securing these pipelines properly. Lest you forget OP, the Military is now going to be heavily funded to deal with issues like this and with Buhari's interest in the Petroleum sector its no longer going to be business as usual for individuals who think they can milk the country dry due to their selfish interest.

P:S I am from the Niger Delta and not an APC Supporter but in the best interest of Nigeria, we have to move forward and i support this move by the President to cancel the contracts and secure it well with the armed forces.

God bless your generation. Out of those arrested by the so called militants, how many have been prosecuted? We all know that the last 3 month recorded the highest low in the vandalization of Gas pipelines leading to a drop in power generation. So they should stop spreading propaganda. My take is if a military personnel vandalizes pipeline, prosecute him, if a business man prosecute him, if a militant, prosecute him. Nigeria will be great again when we learn to prosecute offenders not minding whose ox is gored.

Saraki is not a Northerner. He is a core Yoruba Man.

That is the reason Gbajabiamila lost the Speakers Position.

It reminds me how Gemade and Awoniyi (Kogi State) were fighting for the PDP Chairmanship then when it was Zoned to the North Central.
OBJ told Awoniyi that despite the fact that you associate with the North by structure you are a Yoruba Man.

I am Really Happy that Saraki Won, because the yoruba speaking people from Kwara and Kogi states suffer this kind of politics. Should the North East Have won the Senate President's position then Gbaja would have been the Speaker. Its pure politics of "Tribalism, Zones and Religion". A fair deal for all.

Firstly money acquired from crude oil theft doesnt get to the Federal government.

Secondly our yearly Federal budget is about 4.5 trillion naira.

Thirdly these guys were given the contract because they know the terrain better than the Nigerian military.

...

1. What if the money he distributed was his personal money from crude oil theft?

2. Nigeria exports about 2million barrels daily, by $120 i.e 240million dollars per day and 7.2billion dollars per month do the maths in naira for 200naira per dollar. For bunkering, Nigeria losses over 400,000 barrels per day, and there could be a psuedo official bunkering through this man who has been know to be a bunkerer before. With election funds been needed, 6months will be too small to gather that amount.

By INEC rules one should not spend more than 1billion naira for presidential campain. I agree that both the two major parties failed but you will agree with me that PDP mistakenly made their 21billion a public thing before saying it was not only made for campain.

3. On your number 3 on terrain. You will agree with me that with the appropraite anti air helicopters and anti air and anti mine tanks imported, Nigerain Soldiers has been able to dislodge boko haram from thier captured territories. Same goes for maritime security, with appropraite equipment and the will power to prosecute offenders (including foreigners involved) the issue of bunkering can be tackled.

Thanks for your understanding.

I can bet this story was drafted at a beer parlour

Haba.... 2 Trillion naira!

Do you know how many barrels of crude oil are stolen everyday? Why do you think Tompolo got the contract of maritime security? Who gave him the contract? Dont you think he might be fronting for his master? I sincerly believe that amount can be realized in 6months of crude theft especially when a barrel was selling for $120.

Pensioneers are owed 3-4 years arrears, the universities only received payments of their allowances up to december 2010, Hospitals staffs are owed massively diffrent form of arrears, infractructure is zero, yet they wasted nigerias money. For about a month now i only have light between 2am and 5am, in which the power might not even be supplied at times. I am sure by now that most PDP supporters themselves knows this goverment was a goverment of waste.

The failure of Buhari will begin if he fails to recover all this funds. Imagine someone on a chatterd jet at a cost of 10billion, taking court injuctions to avoid a probe by the legislature. My prayer is that God will expose all of them. The SSS should seize all their travel docoments and foreign countries should also assist nigeria in repartriating them when appropraite. May God rescue Nigeria totally.

So on what ground did the SE and SS vote? Finally tell me the ground that SW and North central did vote. It was clear the president was going to loose when he started fighting his God fathers and the governors. GEJ got votes in the North in 2011 due to the influence of OBJ in his campain and got sympaty votes from SW and Northcentral. I expected him to have gone the Mandela way. Which would have been more honourable since he begged for 4 years. In fact he would have been an hero in the likes of Abdusalami even if we knew there were cases of corruptions in his government.

On a serious note, GEJ had some very good policies such as the youwin, sureP, ferterlizer distribution, IPPIS, local content Policy and so on but the splitting of the governors forum and the relationship with OBJ cost him a lot. PDP will have still been in full control of Kano and there would have been no need of the fighting that ensued in Rivers should Ameachi still be in his camp. I think this is a great lesson for politicians. Its difficult to turn away from your helpers and succeed. We all saw what happened to Governor Lawal of Kwara state when he had issues with Saraki and Oyo State saga. Its quite painful but we lost a suppossed to be great leader, who i am sure acted on the advice of some people who are not talking now.

A lot of people do make this mistake, Niger state is North west alongside sokoto, zamfara, Kebbi, katsina, Kano and Kaduna. While north central includes Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Nassarawa, Plateau and Taraba. North East has Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi and Jigawa state.

PassingShot:

The earlier you accept that PDP cannot fairly win this contest, the better for you.

APC only need to win SW by about 60%. In the NC, APC is clearing Niger, Kwara, Kogi with a possibility of Benue too. The only state PDP may win is Plateau in NC.

Whatever you bring from SS/SE can never match what GMB will record in NE/NW. Even if you get 25% across the board there, it will not save you because b4 you realize it, GMB has won in 22 states and secure additional 25% in Ekiti, Edo, Imo, Plateau, Benue and so on.

The PDP Board of Trustees, The PDP National Secretary (Oyinlola), the Governors forum, the non returning ticket of most PDP legislators, His wife overinvolvement in political and government matters and other administrative stuffs that made him and the PDP loose grip of been the ruling party. Dangotes loss is unimaginable. His support for Jonathan is because he knows he might not get the kind of favour from GEJs govt from that of GMB
