BritneyStacy:God bless you for bringing up this topic. Soymilk is a cow milk substitute. The truth is any cow milk substitute must be strongly recommended by a doctor before giving it to a baby or any child under one. A doctor will only recommend it after assessing the child to determine if the child is allergic to cow milk or if the child has any other dietary needs. Doctor's recommended soymilk is the type made by reputable babyfood companies and not the type sourced/made/processed locally like pap. I have always known about the caveat with soymilk/soya beans but I have learnt on this thread that people take major offence when you point out/question the benefits or otherwise of "traditional" baby food so now I keep my opinion to myself. I remember being dragged by the weave by some mums here for having the effrontery to say that pap (Ogi) contains no nutritional value and that it's nothing but carbs. Yet, detailed scientific tests carried out by researchers from one of the reputable universities in nigeria, university of nnsukka (UNN) confirmed my stand on pap. Onegai even posted the link a while back detailing the research and she also stated that there is a great amount of work required to nutritionally fortify pap to acceptable levels using other food items and she personally felt that it just wasn't worth the hassle. I doubt if many mums actually took out time to read the link. Information they say is power. This is the link below for those that are interested. http://archive.unu.edu/unupress/food/V191e/ch06.htm

ngsoundz:Erm. Once you give her water, you are no longer doing "EBF" oh. Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) means strictly breastmilk for an entire 6 months. |
dangotesmummy:Gbammmmmm. This is exactly what I will do if I was in her shoes. Avoid him like a plague publicly completely until he changes his ways. Cc thewife306 Have a one on one chat with him about it and tell him he needs to change his ways. If he doesn't, then simply adopt the method above. You need to get rid of that househelp though. |
Jennifer89:That's great @ not chesty. Keep an eye on it. My limit with cough is 6-7days and if no improvement, I'm off to the hospital although 3 out of 5 times, i am given no prescription but I would rather play safe. |
VEE992:I used infacol before feeds and between feeds and it worked perfectly for me. I have a friend that swears by gripe water. Although my issue with gripe water is that it contains alcohol (depending on its country of manufacture though). |
Comtem2011 Happy belated birthday. Here's wishing you many more happy and prosperous years ahead. |
Pheesayor In addition to what the other ladies have posted, apply Vaseline on your baby's bum/genetials/thighs after EVERY diaper change. Vaseline acts as a barrier and it's every effective in preventing nappy rash. In addition to this, stick to the same diaper brand. Since you've figured the brand that's best for her skin, stick to it and do not keep changing brands. There's no need for multivitamins or vitamin C for a child below 6 months. Such drugs are only recommended after 6 months and it's optional. Once weaned, if baby is well fed a variety of meals(solids, breast milk, formula) there's really no need for multivitamin syrup as they are already fortified (especially formula) with all the essential vitamins and minerals a baby needs. Regarding bottle feeding, you just have to keep trying till she adapts. This is one of the reasons working mums are advised to introduce bottle feeding early so that the baby's routine won't be affected too much once the mum is through with her maternity leave and resumes back at work. She's sweating because she's hot. Wear light vest for her and there's no need to overdress her, wrap her in a shawl or wear her a woollen hat. |
Jennifer89:How long (days) has he been coughing? Does the cough sound "chesty"? If yes, go back and complain to your doctor as he might prescribe mild antibiotics. Buy metholatum (the very mild one) and apply it on his chest, sides, back and feet after every bath. Give him paracetamol shortly before he gets the immunisation jabs. |
eolowu1:Never. This is my personal opinion though. I'm not a fan of pacifiers at all. I have never used them and I have no intention of ever doing so. I am of the opinion that if my baby is hungry, I feed him and not give him a pacifier. If he's crying, I find out what the issue is (soiled diaper, maybe he's too warm, etc) and not reach for a pacifier. If he's bored, I sing and entertain him. If he's cranky or fussy, I give him lots of cuddles and comfort him. If he wants to be carried, I carry him. |
luscioustrish:Your son is handsome. Have you had him weighed after his initial birth weight check? You cannot conclude by mere looking at him that he's not adding weight without having his weight and length checked at the hospital on a scale and then comparing it to his birth weight to see if he has added weight or not and also using a baby weight chart to see if he's within the growth percentile for his age. So take him to a hospital or any health centre and have his weight checked as soon as possible to allay your worries. |
nicoleswizzi:No, sexxx is not responsible for cervical incompetence. However women diagnosed with an incompetent cervix are usually advised to abstain from sexxxx as sex can induce contractions and further ripen the cervix. |
ijeoma2728:Personally, I won't confront the teacher directly with such an accusation as there's every possibility she hasn't been eating your child's food. I would hate to accuse anyone falsely of such an embarrassing allegation. I would rather request to have a chat with her and tell her that Eva keeps complaining that she doesn't eat her food and then wait for the teacher's response. It's possible that Eva wasn't keen on lunch and the teacher threw the food away (this should be the standard practice so as to avoid food poisoning, all left over meals should be thrown away especially if it hasn't been kept in a fridge). It's also possible that Eva's eating pattern/preference has changed. Maybe she prefers some meals to others. Maybe the teacher needs to understand how to coax her to eat like you do when she's at home. You can only know the next line of action to take (maybe change your dayghter's meals, etc) after discussing with the teacher. Finally, kids will always be kids. What do they really know at that age? The teacher might be eating her own food and Eva just assumes that it's her own food that her teacher is eating. |
rollyare:Ginababy has covered almost everything. The grunting et al sounds like colic. Infacol was what I gave my son and it worked really well for him. I would give him before he feeds. Sometimes in between feeds. I also go a scoop less than what's recommended on the tin for his formula and I gave by baby water. Around 10ml or so at this age. His poo shouldn't be green though. Are you sure he's getting enough hind milk and not fore milk? Always ensure you empty one breast before moving to the other. Ensure you are holding the bottle correctly when feeding him. Always ensure the "teat" of the bottle is filled with milk (please see attached picture) and remove the bottle from his mouth once the milk in the bottle is nearly exhausted.

nicoleswizzi:Plenty of bed rest. To start with, lay in bed for some few days and all you do during this period is go to the toilet to pee and then you return back to bed. Abstain from sexxx or anything that can cause an orgasm |
stephmiracle:Sounds like colic. You can try infacol. Worked like a charm for me. |
Iyomomoreloaded:Nah. It doesn't work. Rashme , baby riri is bae |
Fantastic. Me likey!! ![]() Good riddance to those their ugly addias jerseys. |
ozycy:My exact thoughts. She also mentioned she has sore nipplesss. I can only imagine the pain from applying aboniki on cracked nipplesss. The stretch of aboniki nko? it's definitely not something I would want to smell of or have my child inhale - except she's not going to carry her baby or be in the same room with her child. Then again, tying the breastttt so tightly with wrapper won't that hurt ? |
babylove01:I think there's nothing to worry about. At this stage, her body is growing/changing. I think you are worried she won't end up with a big navel. I also had such naive fears and I kept on telling my mum that my son's navel must be flat oh She would just laugh at me and the only thing she did was "press" his naval during bath time using a towel soaked with warm water. I'm not sure if that made any difference to the size of his navel (I doubt though). |
BellaElla:Nigerians and this EBF madness. What's with all the guilt tripping? Now I understand why so many mothers LIE to people about exclusive breastfeeding, yet secretly they are feeding their babies ogi, soya, formula and even introduce solids at 4 months. How can someone claim a baby fed on formula will become a drolling slowpoke? Hian!!! What sort of unintelligent statement is that? What's the link between Down's syndrome and formula? ![]() Even the foreigners that came up with the EBF concept do not make an issue of it or make mothers feel like failures. Please do not starve your baby. If breast milk isn't sufficient or isn't filling him up, increase the number of formula feeds he gets a day. Your baby has to drink milk to add weight and achieve his milestones. In the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s , there was nothing like EBF. A lot of our grandparents, parents and even ourselves were not exclusively breastfeed for 6 months fed yet we all turned out well. Personally, I have never hidden my support of combination feeding (formula plus breast milk) exclusively for 6 months. My son was on aptamil and breeastmilk for 6 whole months. I wasted money on madela electric pump (around 70k with this Buhari's exchange rate) and I couldn't get more than 20ml before I stopped wasting my time with it and tossed the thing in my kitchen drawer. See eh, this EBF thing is just to clip the wings of the various formula manufacturers that were and are still making billions in turnover yearly from the sale of baby milk. It is also aimed to bridge the divide between the rich and poor as formula was previously seen as an option for the "rich". There's enough inequality in the world so just imagine what would happen if WHO comes out to publicly endorse formula This is my opinion and that of the other 'crazy' mums in the baby and toddler group I used to attend. ![]() Yes, in laws can be wrong and sometimes you have to stand your ground and make your own rules. You have to tell your husband your stand and have him pass the message to his family. I made my stand clear on my personal choices for my baby and I made sure my hubby/inlaws got the message loud and clear. Maybe you want to adopt this approach and be more vocal. My baby, my life and my responsibility. Every unsolicited opinion shall be met with a deserving response. Most people do not look sexy during pregnancy and shortly after. Please do not be deceived by all the pictures you see on Instagram, et al. My tummy was riddled with stretch marks and I just stopped bothering myself about it. Now, they are barely visible. Motherhood is a life changing experience. Focus on your happiness and your baby and trust me, you will return back to your pre-pregnancy state in no time. Rather than looking at your pre-pregnancy pics, look at pictures of your baby. I snap my son picture tire oh. Every outfit (even if it's sleepsuit) I will snap a picture . Anytime we are outdoors, I just dey snap dey go. the first time my son boarded a plane, oh la la, I was a snapping spree from departure lounge, inside the plane and till we landed. when I'm bored, I flick through my phone and marvel on how much he has grown. Those pictures today mean so,so much to me and I won't trade them for anything. My dear, cheer up, be happy and enjoy this phase of motherhood. Eat well, sleep well, get your hair done, paint your toe nails and be merry. #poistivevibesonly Babies grow so quickly. A time will come when you are busy chasing your baby up and down to eat a spoon of rice or sit still in a high chair, only then will you miss your bottle/formula days seriously. ![]() |
babylove01:Has the cord fallen off and as the navel healed/dried? When you touch it, how does your baby react? Anything to suggest she's in any pain or discomfort? She is due for the routine 6 weeks check, so book an appointment with your doctor and express your concerns. |
All these talk on nannies and all their wahala/drama, why aren't mothers considering good crèches/daycares/nurseries ? ![]() I'm so not in favour of leaving my child alone with any nanny. My son goes to a nursery (expensive sha but worth it). Staff ratio is 3 kids to 1 adult. Maximum number of kids in the room is 9. Kids are grouped in each room based on their age so you do not have for example a 3 year old is the same room meant for a baby or 2 year old. Breakfast, snacks, fruit, cow milk and lunch are provided and all I have to bring in is one meal a day. Nappies and wipes are also provided. If I was in Lagos or any part of nigeria, I would definitely consider a crèche and if I need help with housework, I would rather have someone come on a Saturday or Sunday, do whatever chores and leave the same day. |
Fearless07 How's your baby's skin? Have you tried baby tribotan? You should also consider rinsing her clothes with a solution of dettol and water after each wash. |
BellaElla Please bear with me. I will respond to your post shortly. |
hotmomma:Congrats dear Your son will bring joy, blessings and testimonies to you and your family in Jesus name. Amen. |
NorthernParrot:This happens not just in nigeria. I'm 100% sure of the United Kingdom. To join the British army, you have to strip nake.d and the entire body is scrutinised by a doctor. This includes the balls and genitals (for men) and the boobies (for women). My cousin had his own physical examination also carried out by a female doctor as part of the requirements to join the British army. The funny thing was that he failed the medicals (talk about adding more salt to injury) and couldn't proceed with his quest to join the British army but he never forgot all the groping, examination, etc he faced with the female doctor. He found it utterly embarrassing. ![]() |
stephmiracle:I can only imagine all the pain you went through. I hope you've been on powerful painkillers post delivery. The truth is CS is not painful/uncomfortable at all whilst the surgery is ongoing but your doctor adopted a rather crude/inhumane approach. Who bounds a woman (hands and feet) during delivery/surgery? Haba!! Not forgetting his choice of pain relief. Your birth story is a testimony. Do not let the experience put you off child bearing however do consider a different doctor/hospital next time. |
DANZAK:Ahan. You be real Oliver Twist. ![]() You know mums on this thread do not really comment on pictures (I'm guilty of this) but believe me, we are sending our best wishes, congratulations and also admiring the pictures posted. |
Rezzy God is faithful and He will perfect your son's healing in Jesus name. Amen. Please make sure he completes his entire course of antibiotics. |
blessedmum. May his soul rest in peace. Amen. God will comfort you and your family. Amen. Hugs! |
rejoice02. Congrats dear. |
stephmiracle Congrats on the birth of your son. Your birth story is really touching. You mean all your doctor did was numb the incision site without giving you spinal or general anaesthesia God!! You are one very strong woman. I can only imagine pain. It must have been super intense. And to think your hands and feet were also tied while the surgery was going on Mehnnnnn. That doctor is very crude and mean. Its a miracle you didn't pass out from all the pain. Thank God it ended with praise and thanksgiving. You are one very strong woman and you deserve to be celebrated. |
This is my personal opinion though.
