Sincere 9gerian: I am overwhelmed with SHOCK and total disbelief about the conspiracy of silence in the ongoing PERSECUTION of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) DG, Aruma Oteh, by the NASS.
Aruma Oteh is obviously being persecuted for daring to expose the corrupt practices of a member of the House of Representatives. The NASS is currently waging a campaign of Aruma Oteh MUST GO. This campaign has gotten to the ridiculous level whereby the NASS had to block the budget of SEC in year 2013.

The same SEC DG that is being bombarded from all sides by the NASS has seen the Nigerian capital market rebound and gain close to 30% in year 2012. Unfortunately, these achievements means NOTHING to a system that is hell bent on having its bound of flesh. A system that is fertilizes corruption. A system that hugs corruption. A system that ALWAYS protects the corrupt, provided he or she is one of their own.

For me, the most SHAMEFUL part of this unfortunate incident and perhaps the part that shows WHO WE REALLY ARE is the CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE of critical stake holders in the Nigerian project, including the media, civil society groups, opposition parties and even ordinary citizens. Is it that we are all BLIND to the fact that what the NASS is doing to the SEC DG is PERSECUTION? I have monitored the media for sometime now to see if it will react to this issue but what I'v seen is ABSOLUTE SILENCE. The civil society groups are even worse. It appears they only speak or make noise about any issue they've been PAID for.

In saner societies the NASS would never have gone this route because it will fear a terrible backlash in the media and general society. When shall we start CONDEMNING wrong behaviour and wrong actions consistently as a society? When shall we start speaking in support of those who expose corruption in Nigeria? Where can those who are being persecuted for exposing corruption run to for protection in Nigeria?

It is very unfortunate and SAD that as nation we talk about corruption, blame all of our problems on corruption, yet NONE of us is ready to lift a finger in fighting corruption.

Aruma Oteh may most likely go down for daring to expose corruption, she has been left completely ON HER OWN by a society that is nonchallant, yet scream about corruption day and night.

It is almost certain that corruption will TRIUMPH again. It appears the hue and cry about corruption in Nigeria is for political reasons. Those out of power make so much noise about corruption just to score cheap political points.

Until we unite as a people and a society and say NO to corruption and other vices, no progress will be made in this regard

I am saddened at what is happening to that woman, the deeds she was accused of as per spending moneys could have been corrected by deducting the extra costs from her salary, like Sanusi, she inherited a messed up Capital market and has had to work hard to restore the confidence of the people in that market, she has made mistakes no doubt but, this persecution is wrong and I hope GEJ shows some backbone by leaving her there. I think the people that are against her are far stronger than her, she probably depends on her intelligence and the work she is doing to survive.

fellis: I think using two legs for automatic is mostly done by that those who started with manual driving and got used to it.
They tend to use two legs because they are used to the idea of driving with both legs and don't know how to keep any leg idle. The ideal thing is to use only the right leg when driving automatic.

Not true, I started with beetle, even drove manual trucks and I have never used the two legs for driving an automatic car, it is not even natural.

Sincere 9gerian: Oga Buhari said he signed the contract for building of Kaduna refinery. Good. But the SENSIBLE question that should follow is why Kaduna when the crude is located in Niger delta? Why not anywhere close to the raw material, which is crude? Why not Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Ondo, Abia,etc. Why not even Lokoja if he wanted some national spread in citing of refineries? Who bore the extra cost of laying of thousands of kilometres of pipelines for moving the crude all the way to Kaduna?
Buhari also denied the N2.8billion NNPC fraud and 52 smuggled suite cases. Okay na. OBJ was also interviewed recently by Gbengay Ashiru of channelstv. In that interview, OBJ denied he ever wanted or worked towards a 3rd term. Therefore, the denials or responses of Buhari are as expected.

Buhari signed the contracts for more than one refinery, can you list where the rest are?

Alaafin is not the son of anybody, he is a direct descendant of our progenitors while the Ooni is just a priest.

I believe that was why he was removed by Obasanjo, also, getting from Colonel to Flag Staff is purely politics in Nigeria, you must lick someone's behind before you get there. There are some deserving people in the list obviously but you must press button very very well, it is the nature of flag staff appointment.

The Ooni is a nonentity, yes Ife was and is the spiritual home of the Yorubas, but, the Alaafin is far superior to the Ooni, why did the Fulanis not make an attempt on Ife, afterall, they were after the Yorubas, it was Awolowo that gave the Ooni the mouth to talk (pardon my YoroEnglish), the Ibadans would have made short work of the Ooni if he had tried any nonsense, yet, when the Alaafin plotted against them, they still respected him.

Go and read your history, the Alaafin is far superior to the Ooni, who did the British sign treaties with when they came to yorubaland and who was called the Kings of Yorubas.

Niger built a refinery with d help of d Chinese and it is working cos they run a deregulatd downstream sector. Deregulate Nigeria's downstream, and refineries wud flock Nigeria; dont deregulate, and expect any private investor to build refineries in yr dreams (Or so it seems)..... By d way, no where in d article did the govt say 'they hv abandond d building of d 3 refineries', dat came directly from d azz of d punch writer. My impressn is dat d projects are stalling cos d Private investors who are supposd to collaborate wit d govt on dis are developing cold feet..

Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia are running refineries that have government control, refined fuel is far cheaper as well, what are they doing right that we can not do.

Though Soludo has its own flaws but under his leadership banks are creating employment, there is no panic in the banking sector, he successfully assisted the Government in getting rid of our debt.

If you are a Manufacturer or a President or whatever who will you go for without sentiment?

There is something wrong with banks employing hands they so not need, setting up branches on the same street, what do you think will happen when someone with common sense decides to clean the Augean stables?

May God bless you, I do not have your optimism in GEJ's government but you are always objective, Sanusi is being ridiculed because he is an aboki, not Igbo, went after mostly Christians and stopped the filthy lucre of some people.

Sure they are involved in shady deals but not to the extent under Soludo, how can banks be healthy when they have serious debt on their books from soludonomics and the economy is stagnant? Abi will you give loans to defaulters?

manny4life: Going by your wonderful analysis, I'm not too surprised why the entire financial market is in limbo. It's one thing to rescue banks, while allow other collapse if their liability is too high. Soludo had his ills during his time, but heck, you can NEVER compare how the banks are doing now to where it was 5years ago, the banks where in better shape 5years ago and there was so much confidence in the system as opposed now. If you rescued banks few months after you came in, YET, four years later, almost all of them are still ill, then there's something you're not doing right. Isn't the purpose of rescue mission supposed to inject cash into the system through the banks?

Can banks exist in isolation? Industries were closing down yet banks were making profit, profit from where. They were all involved in illegal moves and soludo was complicit. We were all duped into investing in the stock market, all those shares became worthless due to the regulators turning a blind eye, Sanusi came in, cleaned the place up, yet some people are complaining.

Do you think commercial banking was that profitable under soludo? The guys were posting phantom profits, you expect Sanusi to clean up the mess when the fiscal policy is messed up. People invested their hard earned monies in these banks and got nothing, who encouraged the investment? Soludo.

Wallie: EXACTLY! In the US, if someone occupies your land exclusively for 20 years, then the person becomes the owner of the land even though you have title to the land. In England, the period is 12 years.

There are tests to be met before one can claim adverse possession. For example, (1) you have to use the land in such a way that everybody can see thereby giving notice to the owner, (2) your use has to be without permission of the owner, (3) you have to physically use the property, (4) you have to have exclusive use of the property, and (5) your use has to be continuous for the period required.


The moral of the law is, if someone occupies your real property (land) kick them off or give them permission to use it.

Bone that one o, that does not happen in Nigeria, the land you buy with your hard earned money still belongs to the government, it is just on lease.

This argument is redundant, what we need to find out is if they have the capacity, if the contracts were not inflated and then wait for the completion of the construction to see what has been done, companies that can handle stuff like these will always have political affiliations.

I would rather they built world class facility that will be tolled than the nonsense we are putting up with, let the lawyer test the legality of this contract, it will help the government in the future.
