Nigeria is a nation of nearly twice the size of Texas and with over 150Mill people of all different types, and with terrain as diverse as it comes. For them to effectively attack and take over Nigeria, they'll need to:

1)Gain congressional support.
2)Gain national support.
3) Gain international support to do so!
4) Come up with the billions needed to successfully stage such an attack.
5) Find a bordering staging point (supporting boarding nation) in which to launch their land invasion from!
6)Implement a draft, in order to come up with the at the least,  300,000 solders in which would be needed to successfully attack, defeat and hold in occupation a nation like Nigeria.

Most of that stuff is extremely unlikely or flat out impossible to be obtained, with the possible exception of coming up with the funds needed to carry out the invasion.

you are so damn right. Their love is so strong, only death do them part, which seems to happen far too often!

charlisco,
do yourself a favour and check up what terrorism means, if you had any clue whatsoever, you would know that the acts committed by MEND are terrorist acts. Maybe you are a wannabee "freedom fighter" and cannot or will not accept the truth?

Their are many other means to resolve the issues without violence. But first and foremost, lets remember who brought the wealth to Nigeria? Yes, the oil has always been there, but who explored and who turned it into somethinghuh Definitely not your beloved "brothers & sisters"!

The multinationals have always paid HUGE amounts of money over to the communities in which they operate, just a damn pity that the so called leaders (Chiefs, Kings, Princes, etc, etc, etc) keep the money for themselves and don't distribute it amongst THEIR people like they should!

And then come the political leaders, governors, etc, as corrupt as can be!, and your own NNPC! Majority of the multinational oil companies have to pay over 60% to the NNPC. Where is the money going?!? And then, just to top it off, the oil companies still haveto assist the NNPC with their own facilities, beacuse they "don't have the funds"?!?!?!?!?
Damn, this is too damn good!! It's false that the oil companies haven't been giving the communities money, they have. It's been the so called leaders in that region whom are depriving the area of improvements,  by steeling the money given them by the Oil companies and government.

Now that I think about it, it's not an army of military men whom need to be sent into the delta, but an army of EFCC and SSS men instead with a mission to track down and strip all of those kings, princes, and other simple village leaders of the mass of wealth thy obviously have stashed away in those swamps and abroad. Wealth that was supposed to have been used to build new roads, bridges, schools and other necessities for their people.

In fact, it's mighty odd how this MENDS situation would escalate to such an heightened level right at about the same time the EFCC began steamrolling their operations of hauling in corrupt leaders, before then no one really heard of the group, and that was because before then they weren't forging about on terroristic raids all over the place, and they didn't have the weaponry to do so.

I'd bet a fortune that these corrupt village leaders whom have been steeling the money given to them by the oil companies and government have funded this priorly miniscule group to go out and cause ruckus, so to stall their prosecution by the EFCC who they knew would soon be hot on their tail for their thievery. Matter of fact, I'm positive of this conclusion.

hola2ng:
The third term agenda of President Olusegun Obasanjo is in full gear.
The President continues to perfect strategies for perpetuating himself in office.
As part of the game plan, he is now reaching out
to the security services with the intention of using
them as tools of oppression, like the late maximum ruler Gen. Sani Abacha did.

The President held a meeting with top officials of the State Security Service (SSS) last week. According to some sources, who were privy to that meeting, the President informed the security officials that he had no intentions of vacating the office of President on May 29, 2007. The President directed that the screening of candidates be carried out in such a way as to 'weed out' those who were not in support of the President and his third term agenda. Therefore, those perceived to be opponents of the President's third term agenda will receive negative security reports which could cause them to be detained and probably disqualified from contesting elections.

At some point during the meeting the President became irate and was banging on the table. He declared to his shocked audience: "This is a fight to finish. I am not going anywhere. I will leave this office over my dead body. This is war!"

That's a bunch of lies!! That report look as doctored up as a armature 419 E-Mail!! I say the SSS needs to start cracking down on all these rubbish news distributors in the nation spreading all these incriminating lies all about. It's getting way out of hand, and something needs to be done about it before something bad does really happen.

Jakumo:
To all intents and purposes the Niger Delta War is now officially in progress. Yesterday federal helicopter gunships strafed and rocketed oil smuggler barges and their armed escorts in the creeks. The balance has tipped and the dogs of war are loose in the delta. Families of the kidnapped oil workers have very grave cause for concern now that all pretence of dialog has gone out the window.
Yes, and a US gov. representative has stated that US defence personal have been sent to Nigeria to "work" with the Naija government on the situation in the Delta. When the US government talks like that, that usually means that the US has decided to implement an military option to solving a conflicting situation. This spells major trouble for those Delta kids pretending to be some kind of tough Rambos.

They've gone too far this time. Play time is now over, and I'll expect to soon see a bunch of them being dragged out of the Swamps in body bags on a daily basis. They should had stuck to peaceful negotiations.

The problem with Nigeria is highlighted in this post,

People calling on 'God' instead of being proactive,
Amen!! Perhaps these people whom always insinuate that god will solve their problems,  have forgetting that god will only help those whom choose to first help themselves. There's no salvation without sacrifice, folks. I don't mean to sound arrogant or anything by saying this, but, during the Civil Rights movement here in the US, we African Americans vouched heavily on our belief that god was on our side and that he would help us through to an successful end, though at the same time we didn't sit on our hunches feeling sorry for ourselves awaiting god to make everything better for us; we went out and protested to the nation and world, we marched the streets, complained to whomever would listen, and dared to go and do thing we were told not to, and even got a little violent with it at times.

In short we strived to make our own lives better in this nation, while at the same time calling on god to give us an helping hand in our struggle, and sure enough we succeeded, and I have no doubt that this too can work in Nigeria. If you are feeling misrepresented in your society, then it is you whom must speak up and protest and act-out your ass off to get that problem solved, not gods.
PoliticsRe: Should Nigeria Aspire For Nuclear Energy Or Weapons (Or Both)? by Hero(m): 9:46am On Feb 14, 2006
The nation doesn't need a nuclear power plant. They can simply import all they need from the DR Congo. That nation has a very large and ever expanding amount of excess electricity in which it desperately is trying to sale off, so to gain excess cash with to start rebuilding its nation with. The Congo can easily fill the needs of Nigeria and continue to supply it with sufficient power as the Nigerian population and industrial base continues to rapidly expand, and the Congo can due so at a cost expense to the Naija in which would be significantly lower than the power the nation generates itself, thus meaning that the cost of electric in the nation would fall significantly, making more affordable to more citizens.

The government has already observed and talked about this option, and I say they need to act on it. South Africa and the EU nations both have already shown extensive interest in investing in this prized option, and the Congo is primed and ready to cash in on it by expanding its many current Hydro electric dams and seeking investors to developed several more mega ones upon its mega rivers. With constant levels of rain year round, unlike Nigeria, the Congo can produce a constant level of electricity year round, via its many dams.

An connection like this can turn out to be a very beneficial one for Naija in the very near future as it's industrial base expands. The DR Congo, with over 70Mill people and a population growth rat of over 3%, will become a major market for the many goods in which will soon begin being mass produced in Naija for distribution throughout Africa. Infact I predict that the DR Congo will in time become the key war ground of economic and political influence between Nigeria and South Africa over the African continent in due time. Beyond Nigeria and South Africa, the DR Congo is the next big engine of mega opportunity on the continent.

It's population is large and rapidly growing, its state of stability is expanding, its industrial potential is immense, and its new leaders seem to be hungry and determined to get the nation on to a solid industrial footing. By 2020 or so the nation will blow pass the 100Mill population mark, and become the continents second most populous nation, surpassing Egypt for the spot. The South Africans are already flooding into the nation looking for bids, Nigeria must counter them. They cant afford to surrender this behemoth of a nation to the South Africans.

That's right Seun!! Everyone is now aware of the fact of that the EFCC, SSS and other Fed institutions are out there busting tail, but what I want to know, and what I think the starter of the thread wants to know,  is, where are the presidency aspiring folks who are putting this issue, the state of the economy, education, transportation and overall security structure of the nation, at the forefront of their campaigns?

Where are the aspirants whom present to the people their desire and Strong plan to continue on and strengthen OBJ's anti corruption legacy to rid the nation of corruption, at the focal point of their campaign, instead of off to the side and back behind gibberish talk of what tribe, region or religion deserves the presidency?

THAT'S BULL CRAP!! TO HELL WITH THAT TYPE OF BACKWARD TALK!! I say, the first man to show some balls to campaign on the problems holding the nation and ALLLLLL of its people and regions, back, and his solutions to solve them, should be the lucky gogetter to get the presidency, no matter what region, religion or so called TRIBE huh he/she comes from. Nigerians need to start demanding representatives whom campaign as solutions to the problems of the nation and not the cause of them, and only then will the nation really take off!!!  angry
Car TalkRe: South Africa To Acquire Rights To Produce Nigerian Cars. by Hero(m): 8:09am On Feb 14, 2006
This article below describes one of the major improvements achieved within the Nigerian industrial base in which will soon give it the footing it needs to begin effectively restructuring its motor vehicle manufacturing industry. Trust me, if the rate at which the nation is restructuring its industrial base, financial wellbeing and political soundness, is sustained for at least another three years, with its current exploding economic growth ratings of 8%, 9%, and an expected 10% this year, at the least, Nigeria's overall industrial base will blow past that of South Africa's within only 5 to 6 years time. Its size will see to it. Already the nation is on verge of surpassing South African as the nation with the largest number of folks with personal phone access on the African continent.

Already the nation has nearly 20Mill folks with phone service, up from about 400,000 in 1999, yet with over 150Million people, as opposed to South Africa's under 46Mill or so citizens, Nigeria has an immense amount of space to expand their communications industry into; the fact that it's population is growing at an robust 2.5-3% rate is an even greater incentive for telecommunications growth in the nation. It's only a matter of little time before this same level of growth is achieved in its hardcore industrial base as well. South Africa's days as the continents most industrialized nation are shortly numbered. THE SLEEPING GIANT HAS AWAKEN!!

Ajaokuta Steel to produce 2.3m tonnes of steel yearly

THE Ajaokuta Steel Company plans to produce 2.3 million tonnes of steel yearly, as Global Steel Holding Limited, its new managers, commenced comprehensive overhaul of the plant.

The Chairman of Global Steel Holding, Mr. Pramod Mittal, said the company "shall soon commence iron making at Ajaokuta Steel and will soon have the blast furnace ready for production."

Mittal stressed that "Nigeria will have a 2.3 million tonnes rated capacity of steel plant to meet the total domestic demand and many of you know that we have already started exporting steel from the country."

He expressed confidence that in a few years the steel producers in the country would be able to meet all the requirements of the African continent.

"We have plans to increase the product base to include flat steel. These are not currently produced in the country. We plan to put up an additional manufacturing plant with a capacity of three million tonnes for this purpose," he said.

On the rehabilitation work at Ajaokuta, the chairman said coke ovens and by-product plants have been rehabilitated, while conveyor belts and other equipment used for coal handling had been reconditioned.

Mittal also said that inspection and trial run on the 52 kilometres long Itakpe-Ajaokuta rail line had been done and that four locomotives had been rehabilitated.

He said the company's power distribution and instrumentation had been modernised with the replacement of oil-filled and paper insulated cables with imported XLPS cables.

He disclosed that the company had improved water supply from 8,000 million litres to 8,800 million litres per hour for the town where the company is located.

I say, let the South African have it. The most important thing that has come out of this situation is that, it's been proven, and proven well... that the Nigeria people have what it take to make their own high performance vehicles. Now it's time for the people to prove that they can develop an Industrial, financial and transportation base robust enough to begin financing, mass producing and mass distributing not only the cars but all of the fruits of their labor to not just the Nigerian people but the world at large.

What's the use in attempting to develop cars, when your steel plants aren't in full operation yet?? What's the use in attempting to develop cars, when your rail network and roads... that these vehicles need to be transport from the factory to the distribution point on, are still in shambles. What's the point, when your electric in the nation is still sporadic?? These things need to be fixed before a viable auto manufacturing industry can be developed in the nation.

Let the S.A's have there fun in the sun now, and let Nigeria continue to rapidly improve its internal means to lay darken their skies, lay rain upon their party, and flood their Ass out of dominance... a few years down the road. Remember folks; all good things come to those who wait.

I lived most of my life in and just outside of Buffalo, NY, which is pretty much right across the border from Ontario, Canada.  So I visited Canada quite often, and in doing so have traveled all over Ontario, and even some parts of Quebec. Now with that said, you can rest assured of the truthfulness of my words in giving you my answer to your question. Canada, well at least Ontario and Quebec, is little more than a bootleg copy of the Northern US and Britain, yet in many instances... a bit cleaner.

TravelRe: Olumo Rock Pictures by Hero(m): 12:12pm On Feb 07, 2006
Once the park is finished, will there be tour buses that'll take people the the park from larger nearby cities, like Lagos and Ibadan? If not, this would be a good thing for the gov. to invest in... as many would-be tourist will probably have to access Abeokuta via these such larger cities, and a nice tour bus to take them to the park and bring them back would be a major incentive for them to go and visit the park.

On another note, I would like to also state that it would be extremely beneficial for Edo State to begin investing in it's historical sites. Most often in the west, when one speaks of Nigeria's historical richness... they (knowledgeable westerners) most often think of and talk about the nearly ((1,000)) year old rich history of the Great Benin Empire/Kingdom. Resuscitation and proper preservation of the remaining entities left behind by this dynamic ancient civilization will no doubt bring in massive tourist revenue from the West and Asia... On a visit to Benin City, the ancient capital of worldly renowned Empire, I was really disappointed in the extreme lack of preservation of its ancient historical structures... like the city walls, moats, ditches, old imperial roads, and especially the large building structures in which were highly revered by the Portuguese upon their arrival in the city for the first time back in the mid 1300's.

It actually made me very angry, that the keepers of one of Africa's greatest cultural feats, allowed it to rot away in to a bunch of nothingness, while the Europeans, Asians and even Natives of the Americas Cherish and preserve their ancient historical sites with pristine vigour.  angry It's a damn shame if you ask me.  How can you allow such a thing to happen to your history, your people's entire (((millenium's))) worth of dedication and work, is beyond me to even begin to comprehend.  huh But hey; different strokes for different folks, as they say.  undecided
PoliticsA Word For The Desperate by Hero(op): 9:56am On Feb 05, 2006
Today is a new age in Nigeria. Brute force built on the whims of stupidity will not get you far anymore in that nation, and soon may just get you a good laugh in the face as opposed to a scare by the likes of today in the nation... in the future. But it's a known fact that the hungry for power will never stop seeking what they desire until they've been placed in their final resting spots.

So with that said, I have a well tested and much more acceptable means for these power hungry hooligans to achieve what they want, and that is for them to spend their wealth's developing corporate entities in the nation in an all out effort to capture the economic power over the nation. Via America, its been well prooven that those whom hold economic power over a nation are significantly stronger than those whom own the political power.

In a well industrialized nation, the politicians are often forced to be at the beck and call of their nation's mega corporation in which generate most of their private and job related loot in which they operate with... and if they don't listen to these corps, bad things can often happen and happen so on legal terms.  wink

While they build the satellite, 50 Nigerian engineers are right there watching and learning their every move so that they'll first of all.... know how to operate the satellite once it's launched and secondly allow Nigeria to develop its own satellites in the future.

ajisafe, you're right. seun, you're wrong, my man. As for those saying they are proud to be africans, this is a funny way to show it. By erasing the the very african name.

By the way, how did toyota, daewoo, mitsubishi, mazda, nintendo, and the rest sell to the "developed" world using asian names? just wondering. it actually gives their product more recognition. its business wise to sell from your base. what makes a product internation isnt its name, it's the quality.

I don't get the roman analogy. the world isnt rome, its the world. we each have out space in the world. Let's use out names. not only because of pride but because its business wise.

so my response is i'd keep the names the same, but add a Ltd at the end, e.g. Nigeria Zobo, Ltd
I agree, but at the same time it's important to have the name be catchy and direct in structure. Ex: Nsukka, Omotola, Dangote, Adamawa, Kainji and such.

It is in the best interest of this country for you to stay where you are, work, and send money home from time to time. It's not in your best interest, either, because this country still has some growing up to do.

Take the white man's money and send it to Nigeria.

Then when you reach the apex of your career and you have a lot of money in savings, come back to Nigeria, start a business, and provide jobs for a lot of Nigerians. I think it's unfair that after studying abroad you want to come back here to displace our local graduates (who did not have the opportunity of travelling abroad) from the few well-paying jobs that are available to them.

Stay over there, earn a lot of white man's money, and bring that money home and use it to create jobs for fellow Nigerians. Be a job-creator and not a job-taker!

TravelNigeria Should Follow Ghana's And Brazil's Path. by Hero(op): 6:24am On Dec 29, 2005
I'm an African American as some of you may know. I was just wondering why is it that Nigeria unlike Ghana and Brazil and others has not began a program to tap into the wealth of African American tourism, most of which is being ushered off to Caribbean and Europe?? And NO, it's not because we don't want to visit. That notion by many Africans is totally unfounded when addressed to the majority of the AfAm population in this day and age.

I personally know many, many fellow African Americans whom have stated that they'd love to visit Africa someday, and beyond that... have insinuated that they see such a visit as somewhat of a Islamic-like pilgrimage to Mecca event for all blacks in diaspora to take part in... aka... a pilgrimage in which all blacks should make at least once in their lifetime before they die. I've been 4 times, 2 of which included visits to Naija, and I loved every one of them, and can't wait to go on another.

My dad is part of an African American tourism group in which goes on a trip to Africa every other year. And on the in-between years they go to Brazil, the Caribbean, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana and such other heavily African descended areas. Now with all of that said, one thing in which I along with the fellow AfAm's whom were on the these trips to Africa with me experienced was the fact of that... unlike when we visited the Caribbean or Brazil.... in Africa we, in large, were not seen as fellow brothers and sisters by the natives... but rather little different than our white counterparts, and in some cases worst than.

In Nigeria and some parts of Ghana too... we were frequently addressed as Akatas(sp), and often in Nigeria, the term... Oyebos(sp) was addressed to us. We later learned that these terms were derogative in nature, and that Oyebo was actually a term mostly addressed to whites, so by being called this... we were seen as little more than darkened whites by many.  angry Hurtful as that was to hear, we didn't let such things expressed by the ignorance of some ruin our trips, and we ended up meeting lots of interesting people, exploring beautiful lands and wishing to return sooner than later.

On my first trip to Africa there was only like 40 AfAm's on the tour.... we all went back and talked about how great it was and on the second tour I went on there was like 100 AfAm's. We left from that tour and again told everyone how great it was, and then by the time I took my 3rd tour... there was about 145-150 AfAm's on the tour. Then by the time I took my 4th and final tour there was a whopping 235-250 AfAms on the tour. And that's just one tour out of tens of similar tours in which had left out that same year... full of AfAm's looking to make that long awaited pilgrimage back to or to... for the first time, Mother Africa.

Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, South Africa and Kenya are primary destinations for African American tourist... for that they present the greatest incentives to this market. If you build it... they will come!! If Nigeria builds a marketing incentive for AfAm's to come to Nigeria, they will come in droves and pump lots of its ((($800Bill))) in wealth into the Naija market while they're at it.  They'll buy land, houses and more, if only the proper incentive is given to them to do so.

Don't believe me, just ask Ghana about how serious we are about this. Within just a few years after that nation has implemented several major incentives to increase African American involvement in the nation.... the number of African Americans visiting the nation yearly has been growing rapidly, as has the number of these individuals whom are buying/building up homes and land in the nation; investing in companies, and building others.

While the Nigerian government is creating incentives for entrepreneurial White Zimbabweans to come to Nigeria and live, Ghana has been and continues to... create incentives for entrepreneurial African Americans and other blacks in diaspora to come to Ghana and invest their time, talent and wealth... and thus far it's wilding great results. Thousands of African Americans already live full-time or part time in that nation, and guaranteed thousands more will follow suite in the near future.

Keep in mind that we are increasingly living in the communications driven world, and those nations in which have the means to control sizable fractions of this market are surely going to be the ones to make the astounding profits from it. Africa is massively under-served in this market, and with each passing year as the continent's population continuous to sour higher and higher.... the lever at which it's under-served continues to increase.

In an market like this, nations in which have the resources, necessary influence, and knowledge of this market (Nigeria & South Africa), stand an wide open chance to rack in countless billions in little to no time if they pounce on this market with diligence. With the implementation of a successful, and well managed satellite program, Nigeria could stand to rake in more profits from communications, via just its servicing of the African market... than it dose from Oil and gas... by far.

Such a program also would make Nigeria a much more viable military power, via provision of minute to minute reconnaissance of its forces around the world, and trouble spots in which may concern the nation. All in all, as Nigeria becomes more and more the keystone nation in stabilizing military intervention on the African continent, such information would continuously become more and more crucial to the nation's fighting forces.

Information in which is currently provided mostly by the likes of the US and UK to the nation. Now I can go on and on with this line of talk, though to cut this short... I'll just say that the programs true value is unmeasurable in true $ terms, nor in terms to the number of people in whom it would help to employ, not only in Nigeria, but around the world, especially in Africa. If this program is implemented and guided as it should be, then Nigeria will undoubtedly become the undisputed "Giant of Africa" within just a few short years.

Someone E-mailed this to me and I found it pretty freaky. I thought you'all would enjoy it.

1) New York City has 11 letters
2) Afghanistan has 11 letters.
3) Ramsin Yuseb (The terrorist who threatened to destroy the Twin Towers in 1993) has 11 letters.
4) George W Bush has 11 letters.

This could be a mere coincidence, but this gets more interesting:

1) New York is the 11th state.
2) The first plane crashing against the Twin Towers was flight number 11.
3) Flight 11 was carrying 92 passengers. 9 + 2 = 11
4) Flight 77 which also hit Twin Towers, was carrying 65 passengers. 6+5 = 11 5)

The tragedy was on September 11, or 9/11 as it is now known. 9 + 1+ 1 = 11 6) The date is equal to the US emergency services telephone number 911. 9 + 1 + 1 = 11.

Sheer coincidence..?! Read on and make up your own mind:

1) The total number of victims inside all the hi-jacked planes was 254. 2 + 5 + 4 = 11.
2) September 11 is day number 254 of the calendar year. Again 2 + 5 + 4 = 11.
3) The Madrid bombing took place on 3/11/2004. 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 11. 4)

The tragedy of Madrid happened 911 days after the Twin Towers incident.

Now this is where things get totally eerie: The most recognised symbol for the US, after the Stars & Stripes, is the Eagle. The following verse is taken from the Quran, the Islamic holy book:

"For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced: for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah and there was peace." That verse is number 9.11 of the Quran.

Still uncovinced about all of this..?! Try this and see how you feel afterwards, it made my hair stand on end: Open Microsoft Word and do the following:

1. Type in capitals Q33 NY. This is the flight number of the first plane to hit one of the Twin Towers.
2. Highlight the Q33 NY.
3. Change the font size to 48.
4. Change the actual font to the WINGDINGS
What do you think now?!!
Creepy, aint it??  shocked
