PoliticsRe: Nigerian Army Kills Over 40 Boko Haram Militants In Damaturu Clash by herquleez(m): 11:03am On Dec 02, 2014
I am sick and tired of the government, the military and other agencies telling us unconfirmed reports.

The enemy gains and holds on to captured ground, releases video after video of proofs of what they do; land captured, weapons captured and even scenes of battles with our military showing our soldiers running

And what do we usually have in response from our government and military? Mouth talk and press statements. Mouth talk that told us Shekau was killed, mouth talk that said we have rescued the girls, mouth talk that said soldiers didn't burn brt buses. Mouth talk full of lies!

At this point, some are saying 'nonsense, I've seen videos of this and that the army has published'. I'll like to ask, by whom and how often? These are videos clearly taken by mobile phones(meaning they are taken by individual soldiers) and not by official army media men. And those phone videos don't even come out often enough to prove anything.

We all watch foreign media stations, and would agree war has gone beyond actual fighting but propaganda too-the media war.

With boko haram attacking at will and showing videos of land grabbed and the army fleeing, yet the army only comes with word of mouth to counter video evidence, I only have 2 conclusions;

1-either the army is loosing badly and therefore have nothing to show us OR

2- our generals are too foolish to realise the power and effect of the media.

Last I checked, to assemble is different from manufacturing.

Not saying assembling vehicles is bad but let's call it what it is.

Very few countries actually do manufacture cars, most assemble. Let's not be ashamed to admit the stage we are in.

We will get there!

PhonesRe: Dear Tecno , Thanks But Your Phones Are Crap! by herquleez(m): 1:35pm On Dec 23, 2013
There is something most people don't understand about techno;
Techno doesn't manufacture those phones. This is what happens; there are companies usually Chinese and Taiwanese, whose sole business is manufacturing (they are called Original Equipment Manufacturers). These companies are contracted by popular names (LG, Samsung, etc) to manufacture some parts of their products for them. Sometimes, they go as far as assembling these products from start to finish, but must be to the contractor's (LG, Samsung etc) specification. These OEMs have what it takes to supply to and assemble for anyone who is ready to pay.
What techno has done is just to approach one of those OEMs to produce and assemble from the bulk of their manufactured parts and brand them 'techno'. Techno hardware can run on OS installed on it, but won't be able to upgrade why? It is most likely not paying the required royalty to the owner of the OS. google owns android, one of the reasons their phones are cheap. Google techno and u realise it's limited to few African countries. if it was a true oyinbo company, they would be on gsmarena or have outlets other than Africa.
I know this coz, I'm in the line of business too. A lot of manufacturing happens in china and everyone is cashing in on the cheap products from that country. Don't blame techno, the ibo guy don realise Sey naija people like cheap things and he has brought you what you want at a cost of course. It's just business

GooseBaba: Bros leave mata for "impossible under the sun" ....I Will adhere to that when lions start keeping humans as pets......

.meanwhile, wild animals bred in captivity still show their true colors from time to time...a pet that tolerates its master can never be tamed...
Lions and tigers have been and are being successfully domesticated, but only when brought up since birth. Lions brought up that way and reintroduced into the wild are known to be friendly to humans particularly the owner who brought it up even when the lion now owns it's own pride. In Russia, there are circus lions, tigers and even grizzly bears that are meant strictly for shows.
But being what they are, they remain friendly majorly with the owners and not outsiders just like your average dog does.
Facts remain that Many wild animals have been tamed successfully only when brought up from small. The major exceptions are wolves, crocodalians, snakes, jaguars, leopards some species of snakes for the mere reason that these ones have exceptional levels of aggression and/or low intelligence.
Look up facts online before condemning things
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Launches First Nigerian-Built Drone by herquleez(m): 12:24pm On Dec 18, 2013
No doubt, the drone is a good step in the right direction for the airforce. So was the patrol boat built by the navy a while ago. The funny part of these things is the way we celebrate and jubilate at these things. No doubt the military engineers should be encouraged and kept busy, but the fact remains that these projects are more like research and a learning means for them. We should stop over celebrating these things.

PropertiesRe: BBC Replies - "Ever Seen A Well-Built African House On BBC?" by herquleez(m): 7:27pm On Dec 08, 2013
To understand why western media would never portray anything good about Africa (or any other continent for that matter), one must first understand the 'oyinbo mind'

First is that, we are not the primary audience for their broadcasts. Hence everything they say, depict, picture and insinuate is to make the primary audience (fellow oyinbos) feel they are better than the rest of the world (the same feeling that drove Nazi Germany into the two world wars)

The picture they paint of us is representative of their true intents for Africa. The have never wished us well! or how else can a rational being merge 3 huge and different ethnic groups into one country(nigeria). It's same accross Africa (congo, sudan, just name them all)

Africa isnt the only continent at the receiving end of their powerful propagandist media. They blackmail the russians, arabs, the chinese and pretty much anyone who doesnt worship them.

The best way to tackle them is to have a parallel news outfit to painnt them in a bad light; the chinese have got their CCTV where they show and broadcast good things about themselves and damage the west in equal manner.

The Russians have got rianovosti, itar tas, rt etc where they tell their news in their own words and interprete things happening in the west to paint america and its stooges bad to the russian people.

The arabs are however more successful in this aspect with the doha-based aljazeera station. aljazeera is so popular and wide spread that it has a faithful followership not onnly in the arab world but in africa, europe, asia and the americas. Now the west is concerned the image aljazeera is painting of them to the arab world.

The west will not change! We need to sell ourselves and hit them back inn the same measure like the arabs, russians and the chinese have done.

But the best way to hit them is to have good governance, that way we can shut them up.

Lawyer or not, some things remain questionable as far as a rational mind is concerned.

How on earth can the much vaunted NA lose military hardware to a terrorist group time and time again? Reports of NA APCs being used againt the NA itself are rampant. Just ridiculous!

Another rationale question? How on earth was BH able to muster such a large force to attack such an important base right under the nose of the almighty NA?

Henry120: This post reeks of complete and utter ignorance, and I'm only going to respond to this buffoonnery this once.

To say that the transportation of soldeirs in hilux "is sick" is utter stupidity and shows your lack of military knowledge. The use of hilux trucks for COIN operations is not peculiar to nigeria. South-african soldiers in CAR used large numbers of pick-up trucks, the indians use pick-up trucks, same as the pakistanis, mexicans, colombians, brazilians, turks and the almighty united states of america.

The pick-up truck allows the army to deploy quickly and in large numbers, it is a cost saving measure for the countries that deploy them. It is versatile, fast and economical, al-though it sacrifices protection.

You talk like an ignorant child, so the attack on a US marine base in afghanistan and the destruction of multiple US marines harrier jets was as a result of what exactly? You should not be talking about things you are obviously ignorant about.

According to you, the nigerian airforce is incapable of carrying out night raids, and no drones are deployed.............. The confidence you have in the ignorant statement's you've made amuses me.

Say all you want but hiluxes and other soft skinned vehicles on the battlefield are a death trap. The pictures you posted depict one of circumstances where special scout units mingle with local militia to carry out extreme recon. The vehicles are not even in military colours while the soldiers themselves are not uniformed. Again you don't see lots of these lined up to go into thick fight. The armoured humvees, strikers, bradleys are what you see. Embedded units in the US military use these soft skinned vehicles to mingle with local militia. Pakistan and India have some of the largest armed forces in the world hemce the need to supplement operational vehicles with soft skinned ones. Mind you, they are not exactly enviable in terms of tactics either and cannot be used as a standard.
Get the real message I'm passing, we use these ridiculous vehicles heavily in the battle front. It isn't the right!
And please don't get me started on the airforce. It's just a mess.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by herquleez(m): 11:53am On Dec 04, 2013
Are we stating facts here or just being unrealistic?! Super Tucanos are at best trainers with light attack capability. In real combat situations, it's only advantage against the attack helicopter is its speed. It doesn't carry as much combat load. The tucanos would only supplement the alpha jets; they are both more or less the same. Both developed as trainers with light attack capability. Very limited air to air capability. Both suited to COIN operations where anti aircraft guns are no threats. They both will be torn to pieces by well aimed Dushkas or the venerable ZU 23 anti aircraft guns.
Was reading up on the Pakistani JF 17 'thunder' much earlier, it won't be a bad aquisition for the airforce, relatively mordern, multirole and given we don't have serious air defense challenges would an effective air machine than the museum worthy MIG 21 copy called F7s
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by herquleez(m): 10:06am On Dec 04, 2013
If I may, regardless of whatever bias position anyone maintains facts remain. I'm a Nigerian and boy! I'm not proud of my armed forces. There is a sense of invinsibility that has permeated the ranks of the armed forces over the years so much that they all go to sleep believing threats will be dealt with by class room and residual knowledge. Sadly wars can never be won that way.
Now that said, Nigeria makes a lot of money hence there is no excuse non whatsoever for not having reasonable numbers of MBTs, APCs, IFVs. Imagine an army of today transporting troops in counter insurgency operations on hiluxes and Ford Rangers! It's just sick.
The Nigerian military has either been oblivious to threats of BH or has grossly understimated it (both of which are criminal). How else do you explain our men running and scampering in the face of BH, abandoning their few heavy equipment for BH to loot. It's a well known fact that these BH boys wear, operate and use authentic military gear (Nigerian army uniform, rifles marked NA division markings and army pickup trucks and of course our APCs)
Make no mistake, on a one-on-one basis, these BH boys are no match for our boys. However, our command and control structure, order of battle and sense of responsibility is nothing but just sickening. These terrorists, from Mali to Niger, Somalia and Afghanistan and of course Nigeria have a similar order of battle I.e. Several pickup trucks (usually between 5 or ten) each with about 10 to 15 men attached, each has it's Dushka(a devastating Russian 50 cal ) mounted, about 2 or 3 men carry the RPG which would obliterate most battle tanks let alone APCs, then a dragunov sniper is never omitted of course their gpmg is pretty standard. Note that they carry all of the above stated per pick up. Watch news footage of the libyan war, alshabab, malian insurgents etc for confirmation. That, I must tell you is an impressive order of battle that would inflict heavy casualties. Now compare that with an army that uses about the same pick up trucks, but lacks snipers, insufficient 50 cals, very few gpmg and most importantly poor air cover. That said for the army.
As for the airforce that most Nigerians brag about, imagine a Sqn Ldr (amry equivalent is a Major) saying every dual seat fighter jet anywhere in the world is a trainer!!!!!! What happened to the F15s, the SU 30s, the Tornadoes to name a few. That just speaks volumes doesn't it?
The airforce cannot operate at night, flies trainers(alpha jets) for attack, no FLIR capability, no drones (at least non deployed against the terrorists).
Let's not deceive ourselves, lacking sufficient air assets to monitor and police the battle field from the air, there is absolutely nothing the military can do. Mind you, the need for the military to send special forces troops into the sambissa forest (a forest almost as unforgiving as the amazon) to search for BH camps tells you the airforce has no equipment to search out the camps. In the 21st century, FLIRs are a necessity for night time surveillance. The BH boys sneaked out of the forest in numbers (hundreds) to attack the Airforce base, which by the way is the most important base of the Nigerian airforce.
As it stands, we need help but our pride isn't letting us see that.
Fighting a counterinsurgency in such a vast expanse of land requires sophisticated air assets that we lack.
In fairness, the SA airforce has got its own problems (well, who doesn't) dearth of pilots, poor maintenance of expensive equipment and the likes, but I would say this to the shame of our commanders, the SA military has got what it takes to tackle boys like BH and as a matter of fact, the only African military that can do so without breaking much sweat.

Christianity EtcRe: God Doesn't Care About Anyone by herquleez(op): 11:18pm On Aug 21, 2013
The funny thing is, I have a very strong Christian background. But what we've all been taught as Christians or should I say what we practice as Christians can be summed up thus; just pray and alll be well. The reality however is this, pray and have faith but while doing that work towards your goals too.

My view was born out of a recent experience; I made series of bad choices that came round to haunt me and I ended up in debt. Agreed the mistake was my fault and it's a dumb one.

I realised my error, prayed and even fasted and all...but natin happened. But then I chose to forget prayers worked harder cried out for help and just like that the problem is half solved.

The crux of my stand now is this, God has given us so much power on our own, we are like 'small gods' we are responsible for ourselves and thus must suffer for our actions, unless we can wriggle our way out of it.

I still believe he doesn't care, agreed he has his plans and religious people will say have faith and trust him but what I've seen and experienced is that make your move and follow natural rules of hardwork, positivity, be good, recognise and admit your mistakes, move on and 'maybe' pray once a while and all will be well.

Bottomline, be good, do good, be calculative and careful and all will be well.
Christianity EtcGod Doesn't Care About Anyone by herquleez(op): 12:06am On Aug 21, 2013
To think that our Dear God in Heaven gives a shit about anyone is the biggest scam in the history of mankind.

He sees humans as nothing, be you an imam or a pastor or a moralist or ritualist an atheist or whatever crap you believe in; he's laid down rules for humans and has attached good and bad things to follow obedience and disobedience of the set rules-what we like to call karma.

His occasional miracles-some call it luck- are merely to remind us that there is a supernatural power somewhere. Let's just say it's his way of reasserting his ownership of the universe and the powers inherent on in it.

You wanna try out whether or not he really and deeply cares about what you do? Make a mistake, a really dumb one and then expect him to right your wrongs, you'll be in for a rude shock!

The fact is he's given you the power to choose to be dumb and the power to choose to right your wrongs all by yourself.

The bottom line is, your God in whatever form or shape or realm you think he is or operates at, doesn't give a hoot Bleep about you; hence be smart, use your brain (steal one if you aint got none) and if you think you've made mistakes, work to fix them, you have the power to. Your power of choice(some say faith) is stronger than you ca imagine.

The free will he's given you is stronger than the dumb reliance you have been taught to have on him.

Summary? You are responsible for your actions, do good because it's good to do good, be smart and have faith in yourself.

Let God be, he's long let you be!!!!!!!!

PoliticsLessons From The Arab Spring by herquleez(op):
LESSONS FROM THE ARAB SPRING
From Tunisia to Egypt and Yemen and the very repressive Muammar Ghadaffi’s Libya; young and old, rich and poor suddenly realised apathy was suicidal, that sitting and folding of arms was the ammunition the autocratic regimes needed to perpetuate themselves in power.

These are countries, prior to their respective revolutions had far higher standards of living than most sub Saharan countries, if not all. Yet they felt they deserved more, their lives could be better, they could enjoy more freedom, have a say in government and choose who they want. AWESOME!

I just want to point out a few actors in these scenarios and note a few similarities among the major actors.

The People:
All across the countries mentioned, the people said they have had enough of corrupt and oppressive regimes and thus took to the streets to demand change of government. In our dear country, citizens are still subservient, scared and uninformed.

It must however be noted that that was possible because the countries are for the large art homogeneous, in Nigeria, if an Hausa man protests about the policy of a Yoruba president, Yoruba people will say it’s because the president is not from their clan and vice versa (that sort of thing)

The Police
In all the above mentioned countries, the police reacted with force; beating and shooting protesters which inadvertently emboldened the people, made the protests and demands even more popular. From mere protests it turned into violent riots.

If it was our dear country, the police will definitely turn the hapless protesters into shooting targets but will definitely succeed in quelling such protests as other protesters will be scared of losing their lives for various reasons.

The Military
In Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen, the militaries remained independent and did not take any sides, at least not openly. They did not shoot at protesters and neither did they support the police in doing their job. They remained professional and unbiased. They realised their job was not to serve the government but the people.

When the protests got out of hand, they advised their respective governments to leave, choosing to save the nation than the government that was now unpopular. They knew their job!

Libya on the other hand is different in this instance, the military took side and untimely led to the civil war (Syria is doing same) that led to the removal of the government. You cannot fight the entire population and win!

What will the Nigerian military do? I can bet they’ll join the ‘touts in black’ and turn civilians into target practice!

The Governments
It is understandable for those governments to be adamant; to term the protesters as traitors or treasonous; and it would sound legitimate for them to have sent in the police to quell the riots at all cost.
They must however have miscalculated or underestimated the strength, resolve and the will of the people.

They failed to realise the probable outcome of decades of oppression and corruption they of course thought they could get away with it when the protests started. They were delusional and they paid the price!

I’m sure our leaders are yet to learn, and are towing this path with lies, deceit, corruption, thievery and all sorts.

The International Community (especially the West)
You cannot talk of selfishness and double standards in international politics without talking about the US and its stooge allies.

The US sings all around the world preaching democracy blah blah blah, but yet supported Hosni Mubarrak for decades.

France supported the deposed Tunisian president so much that the then Foreign Minister of France offered to send Gendarmes to Tunisia to help quell the uprising. They were clearly not happy to see a man who had who had oppressed his own people for decades and running a corrupt government.

The west showed their reluctance in Yemen and Bahrain, but was quick to act in Libya to depose Ghadaffi and was equally swift to condemn Al Assad in Syria.

The point I’m making here with regards to Nigeria is that, if we continue to manage this country so badly as these countries have, we stand the risk of the west playing us like pawns in a chess game with their Russian and Chinese antagonists in the bigger game of international influence and tit for tat. We would be some negotiating tool, playing ground and some bargaining chip between them. If you think they are doing that already, wait till they get to sponsor rebel against rebel with the Russians supporting another, then you’ll know what I mean.

Conclusion

The legitimacy of any government lay with the people it governs, no matter how powerful the government, the army or the police, they cannot kill the entire populace. You are a leader because the people have allowed you to stay.

The breakup of the USSR, Rose and Orange Revolutions in Ukraine and Georgia respectively and the recent Arab Spring are reminders that the ultimate legitimacy lies with the people.
