To the 16-year-old son of Mr. Lucky Olasanya, it was like a drama when police detectives stormed their residence at Bashorun area of Ibadan and arrested his 42-year-old father. When his father was being interrogated, the little Olasanya expected him to vehemently deny allegation that he is a member of an armed robbery gang. But, to the chagrin of the little boy, his father was unable to provide satisfactory answers to the questions by the detectives. Realizing the possible culpability of his father, the boy was said to have broken down in tears asking his father why he shielded it from them having lived together for so long. Even when he was being paraded alongside other armed robbery suspects, the elderly Olasanya was feigning ignorance that he never knew that the man who introduced himself as a car dealer was an armed robber. Yet, the man had brought no fewer than 10 exotic cars to him for sale. All the cars including jeep and other expensive cars were recovered from his compound where he lives with his wife and three children. He told Crime Alert that the “car dealer” whose name is Adupe from Owo in Ondo brought all the 10 vehicles to him. The cars includes; one from Ogun State Government, a Honda Academy, Nissan Quest, Toyota Avensis with Registration number LAGOS LL 973 KJA, Hyundai Santape VL RD 889 KJA ,Honda CRV Jeep, Toyota Corrola and many others. The suspect told Crime Alert that he would not have accepted the cars if he knew they were stolen. He further said the self-acclaimed car dealer never told him he is an armed robber. However, their illegal deal was blown open when the suspects stole a car belonging to Ogun State Government from a viewing center. Immediately the car was stolen from where it was parked, the number plate was changed and driven straight to Ibadan. But, the tracking agents later traced the car to Bashorun, the residence of Olasanya. The police later discovered some number plates from the bush. Besides, all tools used to steal cars were found in the residence. Among the items recovered are master keys, assorted keys, vehicle licenses, number plates and charms. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Moses Onireti said the suspect had confessed that the vehicles were snatched at gun point at different times. The investigating police officer, Mr. Victor Olaiya said after the car belonging to Ogun State Government was stolen, the number plate OG 04 A45 was removed and hidden in a bush. The owner of a duplex where the suspect lives has relocated to the United States of America. He stated further that the suspect was arrested last Monday and when his residence was searched, they recovered all the keys to the exotic cars except that of Nissan Quest. Another armed robbery suspect, Semiu Jimoh also paraded opened up and confessed that he actually committed the crime. He said he had robbed three times before he was caught adding that he went to Oyo town to rob when they were caught in the act. The suspect also confessed that the leader of the four-man gang whom he called Digo, is at large and that his first operation at Sabo in Oyo town where he got N30.000, was successful. Though, he confessed that his gang used the gun in his possession several times, he denied ownership claiming that it belonged to the leader of the gang. On their part, the police said three of the suspects were ex-convicts. The Police boss while narrating how the long arm of the Law caught up with the suspects said, at about 1.30am, on 31 st july,2011, they got a distress call that some robbers were robbing at Sakutu area of Sabo, Oyo and a team of Policemen attached to the strike force was dispatched to the scene. He said that after a gun duel between the police and the robbers, one of the robbers known as Semiu Jimoh aka White, was arrested with bullet wound on his left leg while others fled. Cp Onirete said the confession of the arrested suspect led to the arrest of one Olajide Dina and one Kehinde Abiodun who are also members of the gang. Items allegedly recovered from the suspects were; one single barrel cut-to size pistol, two live cartridges, one sword, and one double Sim Nokia phone. The CP used the forum to warn other criminals in the state to find elsewhere to hibernate as the state would be too hot for them during his tenure. In another development, the police in the sate said while a patrol team of Moniya Police Station was on duty, they accosted a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number NH 61 EKY. On sighting the policemen, occupants of the car opened fire on them and after a gun battle, the hoodlums abandoned the Jeep and ran into a nearby bush. It was later discovered that a lecturer from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology was attacked in his residence by six armed men who told him that the sum of N5 million had been paid to them to assassinate him, but due to the fact that he cooperated with them, they would spare his life. But, while leaving their victim, the robbers stole his two cars. All the suspects, according to the police, would be charged to court very soon. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/08/shocker-for-teenager-as-police-expose-dad-as-member-of-robbery-gang/ |

IT is a season of lamentation for shareholders of the three banks acquired at the weekend by the Federal Government. While the final computation of loses incurred by the shareholders is being awaited, tentative figures show that the former owners of the nationalised banks may have been stripped of N32 billion worth of shares in the exercise. The banks are former Afribank Plc, now Mainstreet Bank Limited; Bank PHB Plc, which has been branded Keystone Bank Limited and Spring Bank Plc, which the government transformed to Enterprise Bank Limited. A breakdown of the shareholding structure of the banks made available to The Guardian shows that former Spring Bank had 11.3 billion ordinary shares valued at N9.6 billion, Afribank (N13.6 billion ordinary shares worth N9.49 billion), while Bank PHB had 20.2 billion ordinary shares put at N10.7 billion. The Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which took over the banks as their sole shareholder on Monday, said it had injected N679 billion into them to protect their depositors. AMCON has also hinted that the banks would be sold to new investors after three years of being managed by the current boards it appointed on Sunday to run them. AMCON Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO), Mustapha Chike-Obi, during an interview on CNBC Africa on Monday, said he would ensure that the banks are run professionally, adding that the desire informed the appointment of the seasoned bankers and other experts to run the outfits. Before they were nationalised, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, had told journalists in Lagos that in as much as the apex bank was not opposed to banks shareholders’ clamour to be allowed to recapitalise them, they (shareholders) should come up with the funds to bail out the ailing organisations. He said the CBN could not wait endlessly to conclude the recapitalisation exercise as such an open-ended action was bound to affect the entire financial system. In 2009, the CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, declared that the shares in the ailing banks were worthless, adding that the problems in the banks had wiped out the shares’ values. Already, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has suspended trading on the shares of the three banks. The commission, in a statement on Sunday, said the decision was to maintain the capital market integrity. It commended the action of AMCON and the CBN, adding that it would help to resolve the banking crisis in the country. According to SEC, the initiative of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), CBN and AMCON are significant steps towards the resolution of the banking crisis. Indeed, the commission believes these actions will accelerate the recovery of the Nigerian capital market. “Specifically, NDIC in the exercise of its powers under the NDIC Act on August 5, 2011, established Enterprise Bank Limited, Keystone Bank Limited, and Mainstreet Bank Limited, as bridge banks to take over the deposit liabilities and assets of Spring Bank Plc, Bank PHB Plc and Afribank Bank Plc, whose banking licences have been revoked by CBN. “As a consequence of the above actions and to maintain market integrity, the SEC has approved the placement of the shares of Afribank Plc, Bank PHB Plc and Spring Bank Plc on full suspension. Full suspension means that there will be no trading in the shares of the said companies,” it said. The SEC also said that the shares of three other banks that had entered into Transaction Implementation Agreements (TIAs) with investors would also be placed on technical suspension to protect investors as well as boost their activities. It said: “The commission equally notes that in compliance with the CBN requirements for recapitalisation, Finbank Plc, Intercontinental Bank Plc, Oceanic Bank Plc and Union Bank Nigeria Plc have executed TIAs with core investors. “To protect investors, the SEC has approved that the Nigerian Stock Exchange should place the shares of these banks on technical suspension. Technical suspension means that trading in the shares can continue without any change in price. The commission remains committed to its mandate of investor protection and market development.” The banks along with Union Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Finbank and Oceanic International Bank were given up to September 30 to recapitalise or face liquidation. Of these banks, four had signed agreements with other banks to pave the way for strategic investors to inject additional funds into them. They are Intercontinental (with Access Bank Plc); Union Bank (with African Capital Alliance); Finbank (with FCMB) and Oceanic Bank (with Ecobank Transnational Incorporated). But the Federal Government after reviewing the situation concluded that it would be risky to allow the nationalised banks to operate till September 30. Besides, the Federal Government, through the CBN, had in August 2009 offered N620 billion lifeline to six of the distressed banks, including the three now taken over by the government. Shortly after they were nationalised, AMCON injected N678.5 billion into the three banks, bringing the total amount provided to lift them to N1.29 trillion. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57348:shareholders-lose-n32b-in-nationalised-banks-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |
It sure sounds strange, but it is very true. Recently, Ogbomoso, a sprawling town in Oyo State, was thrown into confusion as a mysterious baby was discovered near the grave of a grand old man, Pa Ganiyu Akande, who had just died. Even now, the entire community is still engulfed in confusion as no one could explain the sudden appearance of the unknown baby that also died soon after the strange discovery. The incident happened at Abede House in Ogbomoso, a shouting distance to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi, AJagungbade 11. In fact, the monarch himself confirmed the incident. Many people in the town insist it was the late Pa Akande who reincarnated in the form of the baby. The old man hailed from Iseyin town in Osun State and eventually came to live in Abede town in Ogbomoso. In his lifetime, Pa Akande had no child and was not married to any woman. His attempts at marriage failed since he was said to be impotent. Madam Sidikat Akande, a family member of Pa Aknde, was taking care of the old man when he died. She told our reporter that the man was about 100 at the time of his demise. She said Pa Akande was very religious and was an Imam at the Abede Mosque in Ogbomosho. He was also the mosque’s muezzin before he died, according to the woman. One fateful afternoon, Pa Ganiyu passed on peacefully on the lap of Sidikat Akande, his goddaughter. His burial was quickly arranged according to Muslim rites. After the customary prayers by the Islamic clerics, the man was buried at the back of his house. Few minutes after his burial, even while the tears of the mourners were still fresh in their eyes, a strange thing happened. One Mosunmola Akande, one of Pa Ganiyu’s relatives, said she was tidying up things at the backyard when she discovered some unusual movement under the mat just used to cover the grave. According to her, she was shocked to see a new baby cooling off under the mat. Alarmed, she screamed and soon had everyone rushing to the scene to see the strange thing. The incident was quickly reported to the Ogbomoso monarch whose palace is just a stone’s throw to the scene. Many women wailed and cursed the heartless mother of the innocent baby. But they also wondered how a day old baby could be dumped on the dead man’s burial ground, and covered with the burial mat without the knowledge of anyone at the crowded scene. Tongues wagged as the rumour spread across the town that Pa Ganiyu’s ‘secret lover’ might have dumped his day old baby on his burial mat after his death. The Soun of Ogbomoso sent words round the town, making entreaties to the mother of the baby boy to show her face. He assured that she would not be punished, saying her plight was understandable. She would rather be blessed with gifts and resources to cater for the baby, the monarch assured. But days ran into weeks, and no one came for the baby. Then, many thoughts began to run into the minds of Pa Ganiyu’s relatives. They remembered that the old man had said that something strange would happen after his death and had assured them not to panic as such thing was tied to his destiny. The deceased’s relatives now thought that the old man must have reincarnated as the baby. First, they said the baby had a striking resemblance with Pa Ganiyu. “Again, the baby would also position itself in a prayerful mood whenever the call for prayer was made at the mosque. According to Mrs. Sidikat Akande, Okikiola, as the baby was later christened, would raise his hands up in the same manner Pa Ganiyu did whenever he called other Muslims for prayers at the Abede mosque. “Papa died on July 10 last year and we buried him the second day according to Muslim burial rites. The Alfas that conducted his burial rites stayed long at the site before they left and nothing happened. We started tidying up things. One of our wives in the family, Mosunmola Akande, who had gone to the backyard to tidy up things, started calling me to come and see something. Meanwhile I was still grieving about the loss of papa. I didn’t answer her call immediately. But when she was persistent, I joined her at the backyard. Then she told me that she saw something strange under the burial mat. She said the head of the thing she was seeing under the mat looked like a baby’s. Then we promptly took off the mat and what we saw was a day old baby with its umbilical cord still hung to its body. Then I carried the baby. It wasn’t up to about five minutes after the burial that we found the baby. We quickly alerted people around us that we found a new baby and that whoever owned the baby should come and carry it. But no one showed up. We informed the royal father, the Soun, and words were sent round the town that the mother of the baby should come for it. The king assured that no punishment would be meted out to the mother. In fact, many had started giving things to the baby. We had started receiving baby accessories, among other things. But nobody came up to claim the baby. We waited for days, but no one came. “What we found strange was that the baby looked every inch like Papa who just died. We later started suspecting that the baby could be the strange happening Papa promised. Another thing was that this baby demonstrated the call for prayer at the mosque whenever it was time for prayers: He would raise his hands up when it was time for any of the five prayers daily offered in the mosque. This was what Papa used to do because he was the Mosque’s muezzin. “Before his death, he had told us severally that something strange would happen when he died and he used to tell us that we should not be afraid when it happened. He would say this and backed it up with prayers.” According to Mama Akande, on the eight day, the baby was named Okikiola because he had become extremely popular among the people in that part of Ogbomoso. Her words: “Eight days after we found him, we christened him Okikiola. The royal father, Oba Soun of Ogbomoso, sponsored the ceremony and it was well-attended by all indigenes of the town. People from other towns as well as some influential men had already indicated interest in taking care of him. We still expected the baby’s mother to come but no one showed up. When we later concluded that it must have been our papa who had revisited us as baby, we started taking good care of him. We took him to the maternity home regularly and gave him food and drugs all the time. But sadly enough, 40 days after we found him, as we were preparing for the 41-day prayers of Papa, Okikiola passed on one fateful evening. He was not even ill; he just closed his eyes and went cold. We buried him immediately. His death was very painful because I had thought that he had come to replace papa. Unfortunately, Okiokiola is gone.” http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/citysun/2011/aug/10/citysun-10-08-2011-001.html |
The Delta Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Richard Mofe-Damijo, has blamed “excessive stress” for the death of veteran actor, Sam Loco Efe. Efe, 66, died in a hotel in Owerri, Imo State on Sunday after a post-production work on the Unknown Prophet a film he directed Mofe-Damijo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Asaba, Delta State on Tuesday that actors in the country were in the habit of working for endless hours without food or rest during production. Creator and Producer of Hotel De Jordan, Jonathan Ihonde, said in Benin, that Efe, who played the role of Chief Ukabiri in the programme, was to be honoured before his death. Ihonde said, “Now he is gone forever but the celebration will go on because his spirit will definitely be with us.” Mofe-Damijo who is also a prominent Nollywood actor, said Efe had immersed himself in the production of the Unknown Prophet in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, thereby paying less attention to his medical problems. “Sam Loco’s death should make actors in the country to reexamine the condition under which they work. He died of “excessive stress.” “We rush to complete a whole load of work in a short period, doing so without food or rest,’’ Mofe-Damijo said. He noted that remuneration in the industry had become good, but advised that the key issue which actors must address, was their working condition. “We stay hungry working for long periods and without even an hour break and after all that, actors don’t bother to go for medical checks,’’he said. Mofe-Damijo, who said Nigerian actors would miss the late Efe, explained that he grew up watching him(Efe) and Jimi Solanke in drama programmes on television. He added that his desire to be like the Edo State-born veteran actor was one of the reasons that made him to study Theatre Arts. The commissioner described the late actor’s demise as a painful loss to every actor and other Nigerians. He said that Efe brought joy to many homes through his acting, but regretted that he did not live long enough to enjoy his fame and goodwill. Mofe-Damijo assured that actors would rally round to give Efe a burial that would match his status in the film industry. Ihonde described Efe as “ a consummate actor and a photogenic brain,” who was a great influence on younger actors. He said, “Efe was a photogenic brain that could to take lines. He was a delight to producers and viewers alike. Give Sam Loco Efe a script, in a jiffy; he had photogenically taken in all his lines. “He was dedicated to acting and was a great influence on younger actors. He loved the theatre and his life was that of total dedication to the theatre.” http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art2011081052290 |
THE police, on Tuesday in London, said they were prepared to use plastic bullets against rioters "if a fourth night of lawlessness sees gangs of youths marauding across London and looting businesses." With an unprecedented 16,000 police officers the Prime Minister, David Cameron, dispatched on the streets of London Tuesday night, answers were being demanded over the failure of police to bring Monday night riots under control. A murder hunt was underway on Tuesday after the 26-year-old was killed in the attack in Croydon, south London. He was discovered seriously injured in the vehicle at around 9.15 p.m on Monday, as trouble flared in the south London suburb. Two other people believed to be aged in their late 20s were arrested at the scene for handling stolen goods and taken to a south London police station. Just hours after Cameron warned rioters they would face the “full force of the law” shops were boarding up their windows across the capital amid fears of more violence across the capital. The Daily Mail reported that businesses, pubs, schools and even medical centres were sending staff home early. The newspaper said 20 police officers stood guard around the entrance to Hackney town hall, on Mare Street, in east London, which had to be evacuated on Tuesday afternoon amid fears of further attacks. Managers decided to shut the Southside shopping centre in Wandsworth, south London, to avoid the risk of looting and violence. Asked if plastic bullets could be used, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Steve Kavanagh, told Daily Mail: “That's a tactic that will be used by the Metropolitan Police if deemed necessary.” He added that he was “not going to throw 180 years of policing with the community away” as the prospect of using the non-lethal ammunition for the first time at a British disturbance was raised. The police said copycat violence broke out in Liverpool, Birmingham and Bristol, with further reports of violence in Nottingham and Leeds, as it spread from the capital for the first time. Among the most serious of incidents was the arrest of three people on suspicion of attempting to murder a police officer in north London early on Tuesday morning. Armoured vehicles known as 'Jankels' were used to push back a mob of 150 rioters in Clapham, south London, while dozens of businesses were gutted by fire or looted until shelves were bare. Children aged as young as eight were reportedly seen fleeing shops with games consoles in Ealing. Despite 6,000 officers on the streets of London alone, many residents reported a lack of police, while marauding gangs were a law unto themselves. An unprecedented number of police were on the streets of London on Tuesday night, with “all able-bodied officers in the Met” out on duty. Police confirmed that 525 people had now been arrested since rioting began on Saturday and over 100 had been charged to court. The army of police officers on duty in London increased to 16,000 on Tuesday night on the orders of the Prime Minister, compared with just 6,000 on Monday night, as reinforcements were drafted in from 26 forces across the country. Kavanagh told reporters in Londay that he was sorry that London had got to wake up to these scenes, adding that “we need to do better for London, because those images last night were shocking for everyone.” Every police cell in the capital was reportedly full on Tuesday, forcing officers to transport suspects outside the city. The mayor, Boris Johnson, faced calls to resign from angry residents, as he visited riot-hit Clapham with Home Secretary, Theresa May. Mr Johnson struggled to make himself heard as he said “tonight, we are going to have a huge number of police on the streets.” The mayor, who was eventually guided away from the crowds and television cameras, followed other leaders by ending his stay abroad to join efforts to quell the violence that had blighted London. Meanwhile, the Met Police have admitted that plastic bullets could be used for the first time in mainland Britain if rioting continues. Forces across the UK were equipped with the Heckler and Koch L104A1 launcher weapons, which fire non-lethal baton rounds or “plastic bullets.” The police said although they had no plan to use “plastic bullets” during any potential riots, but with the situation on Tuesday evening, they could not rule out using them. The new weapons were developed after older rounds were criticised, because of the risks of serious injury or death if the target’s upper body or head was hit. However, although the weapon is a less lethal option, there was still a small chance the projectile could cause a fatality, especially if it ricocheted. Amid the political backlash, the riots claimed their first life as a 26-year-old man, who was shot as he sat in a car during rioting in Croydon, died in hospital. Huge swathes of the capital woke up to the charred debris of burned out buildings and streets littered with waste. David Cameron has recalled parliament for the day on Thursday, as he pledged to bring the situation under control. After cutting short his Tuscany holiday to deal with the worsening public disorder crisis, the Prime Minister said “we will do everything necessary to restore order to Britain’s streets and to make them safe for the law-abiding.” Police said copycat violence broke out in Liver-pool, Birmingham and Bristol, with further reports of violence in Nottingham and Leeds. http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/international/article/147576--london-riots-claim-man-s-life |
Barring last minute change of mind by the National Assembly, the President, governors and Ministers will soon be allowed to operate foreign accounts. Others that could own foreign accounts are members of the National Assembly, House of Assembly members, commissioners and other public officers. The proposal is part of the amendments to the 1999 Constitution by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. With this proposal, such appointees like the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, his Trade and Investment counterpart, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji and other Nigerians from the Diaspora coming home to serve can maintain their foreign accounts. But anti-graft agencies through the Financial Intelligence Unit will be able to monitor such accounts to prevent public officers from engaging in money laundering. The Presidency may have decided to amend Part 1, Section 3 of the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution which bans public officers from operating foreign accounts, it was learnt. The Section reads: “The President, Vice-President, Governor, Deputy Governor, Ministers of the Government of the Federation and Commissioners of the governments of states, members of the National Assembly and of the Houses of Assembly of the states, and such other public officers or persons as the National Assembly may by law prescribe shall not maintain or operate a bank account in any country outside Nigeria.” A source, who is central to the coordination of the proposed amendments, said: “This is one of the issues we are throwing up for debate as part of the new constitution amendment process. “The Presidency has decided to amend the Constitution to own foreign accounts in line with global best practices. “All over the world, public officers are now allowed to operate foreign accounts. Since we live in a global village, Nigeria cannot be an exception. “Also, many Nigerians in the Diaspora are willing to return home to assist the nation in its development but this Section in the Fifth Schedule has been an hindrance. “When they come home to serve, they always leave their families abroad and it is always difficult for them because they used to close their accounts and run from pillar to post to remit upkeep allowances and school fees of their wards. “You do not need to invite professionals abroad home and allow them to suffer.” Replying a question, the source also added: “By allowing operation of foreign accounts, the presidency is also trying to liberalise the environment to prevent money laundering by public officers. “With the present law in place, many public officers have been operating foreign accounts secretly using pseudonym or some agents. “That is why you see our public officers stashing funds in coded accounts abroad. Many of these ex-governors, ex-Ministers, Senators and public officers have died without any access to such foreign accounts by even their immediate family not to talk of the Federal Government. “There is a case of a former governor with $6million in a coded account in Cayman Island but nobody in his family knew about it. With time, the money will be forfeited to the host country. “Once public officers are now allowed to operate foreign accounts, all the host countries of looted funds will no longer allow coded accounts and the government thorough anti-corruption agencies will be able to monitor all these accounts of public officers, their relatives and associates from time to time. “The essence is to lift the veil off these public officers with secret accounts abroad.” The source added that the government will however “strengthen Financial Intelligence Unit of anti-corruption agencies to monitor all these accounts in collaboration. “This proposal is a way of checking corruption if endorsed by Nigerians. The list of all public officers will be released to international security agencies and finacial institutions Some of the proposed amendments by the presidency are seven-year single tenure, fixed tenure for the 774 local government areas; abolition of Joint State- Local Government Account as applicable in most states and constructive true federalism. Others are abolition of indigenship; right to vote and be voted for after being resident in any part of Nigeria for six months; and removal of prison management from exclusive list to concurrent list. Although the review of revenue allocation formula might be part of the constitution amendment, a source in the presidency said the proposal will be after the governors have endorsed the Local Government Reform. http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news/15215-president-governors-others-may-now-operate-foreign-accounts.html |
SENATE President David Mark yesterday denied having any conflict of interest with the Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, over business transactions. Mark said through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, that he and the vice-president are still working together for the success of President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda and that there is no frosty relationship between them. “It is also a huge lie to impute that Vice-President Sambo is interested in selling the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) to a nameless foreign investor that is prepared to pay $968 million while Senator Mark (prefers) to sell NITEL to an indigenous operator, Globacom, for $450 million. “It is important to stress that the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, is neither a member of the National Council on Privatisation (NCP) nor the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE),” the statement reads, adding that Mark has no input whatsoever in the day-to-day activities of these privatisation agencies. Contrary to the report in a national newspaper, Mark denied ordering the probe of the BPE, pointing out that the motion to investigate the collapse of some privatised Federal Government companies was moved by Senator Ahmed Lawan (ANPP, Yobe) and carried by the whole House. It reads further: “The investigation of the sale of these privatised companies is, therefore, to further the economic interest of our nation just as it is in tandem with the pledge of Senator Mark to engender legislations that will benefit the ordinary Nigerian. “There is no tussle whatsoever between Senator Mark and Vice-President Sambo over the sale of NITEL or any other matter.” http://www.nigeriancompass.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2986:privatisation-mark-denies-rift-with-sambo&catid=54:nigeria-today&Itemid=594 |
