They will receive an email changing them to another centre. Last year, it happened in LAUTECH and since it has happened there, the institution cannot be allowed to take our examination as long as I am the registrar of JAMB. Let them close their gate and we go elsewhere. Once we are unable to conduct examination in a particular centre, we go elsewhere, If you want to kill your institution because you have internal problem, go ahead and kill it.Oloyede dey vex for Lautech o ![]() |

BILLY GRAHAM'S BODY BEGINS JOURNEY HOME !! A hearse bearing the body of Evangelist Billy Graham has begun its journey from the North Carolina mountains to his home town of Charlotte. The procession began with a ceremonial departure from a mountain chapel at the training centre operated by his evangelistic association in Asheville. Crowds lined the streets as the procession passed through the town of Black Mountain on its 130 mile journey. The Billy Graham Evangelical Association announced Graham’s funeral service will take place at noon on March 2 ,2018 ! Graham, known to many as America’s pastor, died aged 99 on Wednesday from natural causes at his family home in Montreat just outside Asheville. Mark Demoss, a spokesman for the organisation, said the funeral will be held in a large tent as a tribute to Graham’s first Crusade in Los Angeles in 1949. And, like his wife Ruth, who died in 2007, Graham will be buried in a simple pine casket made by inmates at the correctional facility in Angola, Lousiana. Approximately 2,300 invitations were issued for the private funeral, including to President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and former presidents, George H W Bush, George W Bush, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Mr DeMoss said. https://www.google.com.ng/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa/article-5430637/amp/Billy-Graham-s-body-begins-final-journey-home.html ©DailyMail

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is set to embark on an ambitious review of its students’ accommodation policy to decongest and renovate the halls of residence on the campus, a top official has exclusively told PREMIUM TIMES. The university, established in 1962 as the University of Ife, has nine halls of residence, mostly dilapidated due to years of negligence and unsustainable pressure, having had to accommodate far more students than their original capacity. For instance, shared six-bed rooms at most of the blocks of the Awolowo Hall have an average of 10 students each, exerting pressure on the facilities. In recent years, OAU has become an object of ridicule after pictures of its filthy and dilapidated residential facilities, including lavatories and rooms were released on social media by aggrieved students. But if anything comes of the new vows of the management regarding the halls of residence, the facilities may be improved soon. The Dean of the Students’ Affairs, Isiaka Aransi, told PREMIUM TIMES the school had concluded plans to raise the standards of the facilities. “We are going by the initial plan of those buildings,” he said. “Rooms that are meant for 4 people, will be occupied by 4. Those meant for 1 or 2 or 8 students will be occupied by the normal number of students.” He added that that the school is planning to renovate the halls of residence after the holiday, starting Saturday, February 17. Mr. Aransi, a professor, promised that works would be completed before the resumption of the 2017/2018 academic session. Aware of the eyesores and standing embarrassment that the facilities have become, he said, “We want a place where students can show to their parents. We’ll do the renovation but that will be after we’ve cleared the rooms.” Dilapidated hostels in OAU Dilapidated hostels in OAU To give effect to the promise, the school has formally asked the students to vacate the halls of residence immediately the vacation starts. The oldest hostels are Awolowo Hall and the Moremi Hall, for males and females respectively, built 45 years ago. They were followed by Angola (Males’) Hall and Mozambique (females’) Hall, both constructed in 1975. These four hostels account for about 8,000 of the students residing on campus. Then, Adekunle Fajuyi (male), Ladoke Akintola (female), Alumni (female) ETF (male) Halls and Murtala Muhammed (postgraduate) Halls were built afterwards Angola and Mozambique Halls, traditionally for first year students, are typically overcrowded. Officially, there should be 12 occupants in each of the rooms, but cases of a ‘legal occupant’ accommodating – ‘helping’ – an ‘illegal occupant’, usually a year-two student who is not allocated room by the school and is not able to rent a room off campus, are rampant. It is normal at OAU for students who are officially allocated rooms to accommodate their friends, who are not allocated and can’t afford a rent off-campus or at the privately-run hostels on campus. Abiodun Ajayi, a part-four student expressed the need for the renovation of the hostels. “Professional builders confirmed that any building, no matter the expertise of builder, should be renovated after 20 years. That is ideal,” he commented on the decaying facilities. Mokama Joseph, a part-one resident of Awolowo Hall, spoke about the cracks in the buildings, the faulty electric sockets, damaged doors and the wriggling bed bunks. “The lives of students are being endangered if nothing urgent is done to attend to the state of the hostels.” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/ssouth-west/258801-exclusive-oau-unveils-plan-renovate-dilapidated-hostels.html Lalasticlala |
I think this union is being vindictive because they feel govt isn't giving them as much attention as they'd have given ASUU... They've disrupted Convocation in Unilag, threatened to cut off UNN's power and Water supply, disrupted jamb exams in BUK - but unfortunately nothing but a total shutdown of the entire Nigerian university system is sufficien for govt to pay attention. As for Jamb they had better start reaching out to all private universities, polytechnics and colleges of education so as to replace the public university centers, so what happened in Lautech won't repeat this year |
Some non-teaching staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, have disrupted the mock examination of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the school premises. The mock examination was scheduled to hold on Monday within the OAU premises, being one of the centre approved for JAMB CBT by the examination body. The Centre Coordinator, OAU ICT, Dr Sururah Bello, told reporters during an interview in Ile-Ife, Osun State, that the examination could not hold after the non-teaching staff stormed the centre. She said the striking union members were aggrieved due to the fact that the Joint Action Committee, an umbrella body of the three unions, declared that the earned allowance earlier given to the management should be withdrawn. But, the Vice Chairman of the National Association of Academics Technologist (NAAT), Adeyosoye Olusoji, who spoke on behalf of some union leaders, noted that fact that the strike was still ongoing. He, however, accused the management of issued a press release and threatening the workers, despite being fully aware of the industrial action. Olusoji also claimed that the management ordered that the OAU workers should go back to their offices to avoid being dismissed. He said the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, had threatened to invite the police into the campus to clear the roadblocks mounted by striking workers. According to him, this brought about the reactions which caused the aggrieved workers to disrupt the JAMB mock examination. In his reaction, Professor Ogunbodede denied the allegations, saying he was only appealing to the workers to allow the mock examination to hold as OAU was just part of the designated centres. He, however, condemned the action of the unions which he said could have a negative impact on the university. The Area “A” Commander of Police, Moore, Ile-Ife, Funsho Adegboye, who intervened in the matter, commended the maturity exhibited by the workers since the struggle began. He also appealed to both parties to allow peace to reign and create room for dialogue for the benefit of the students and entire the community. https://www.channelstv.com/2018/02/26/workers-disrupt-jamb-mock-examination-oau/ Lalasticlala |

She said although she did not fully understand the way the children speak lately, she was proud that they speak that way, as it made her feel like she was giving them the best education.Intellectual Colonialism and Slavery at its peak. |
SpoiltVirgin:Sarcasm ![]() Thing is if you go to school to study biology. Please learn how to sequence DNA, learn how to use PCR, ELISA Technique, Tissue Culturing, learn all advanced molecular techniques, graduate with a good result and forget stress. If you are studying Computer Science learn C++, Phython, Java and the other numerous programming languages in school and forget stress. We can deride the first class of a private uni all we want but if he learns the applications of skills in his discipline and is good at it, he would be sought after than the one who learnt only stress. The Nigerian society is already very stressful as it is. Believe me we don't need to learn stress in school again(assuming stress is of any benefit) plus stress is not part of a university's mandate and should never be impacted. Lastly Bill Gates, Zuckerberg did not go through "stress" to become who they are today. Entrepreneurs from Nigeria have not surpassed them with all of our lessons in "Stress". |
I think the most scary part is the construction quality... |
Our maintenance culture in Nigeria is just awful. You know these days I wonder if it is not better to be a middle class person in Norway than to be a rich man in Nigeria. The level of disorganisation in this country inspires hopelessness and depression. Nothing inspiring whatsoever from power sector to education, infrastructure and security. Everything is in shambles. HeyCorleone:If you don't take NUC ratings seriously, then by what means do you attest to the fact that Public schools are better than privates schools? |
HeyCorleone:Lool this one is the king of self delusion. But just so you know, the president of Uganda's son attended AUN. Former VC of Unilag, Unical's kids attended Covenant, same with Fayose's son who snubbed EKSU for Covenant. It seems the unfortunate one is really you. Talking about accredited faculties, Covenant and AUN have never lost an accreditation since they were founded. We can't say the same for your poo federal Unis. Covenant surpasses OAU in all lastly accredited PG courses. I advise you to check NUC website for proper guidance before reeling out crappy opinions. |
Lol this topic might soon end up hidden by Seun and his crew. |
HeyCorleone:Boast about being from OSU OAU Unilorin above someone from Lagos Business School, Covenant University, American University of Nigeria. The crack you are on must be very strong ![]() |
wizzakosh:Next time do your research before jumping to attack people. He was making reference to an Elsevier Ranking of Computer Science Research. Elsevier in case you don't know is where all universities drop their quality research work - including the likes of Harvard, Stanford and co. The particular ranking you were referring to is a 4icu.org ranking that is completely unacceptable by Nigerian Academia because it only measures the Popularity of Websites Cc Psalmiel marvin906

HeyCorleone:What would a graduate of AUN or Pan Atlantic University feel inferior for not attending OAU. Do you think we are talking about Madonna or Alhikmah university here. You need exposure bro, go to the good private universities and see sons and daughters of your corporate titans schooling. It's just like saying a graduate of Ambassadors college or Loyola Jesuit or Faith Academy is feeling inferior to someone from Lagos State High School Agege(which I graduated from by the way). |
HeyCorleone:I think you are obsessed with winners bro. Oyedepo is not on your level and you probably would never be on his. If you have an issue with him you know your way to Canaanland. Now You've not contributed anything meaningful to this thread. I have no use of your "public universities". If they were so good the children of your politicians who run them wouldn't all be scattered over Europe, Americas and even Nigerian privates studying. So get a grip of your insecure self. |
uyiekpenn:I heard someone on nairaland complain about this same issue some time ago from Western Delta University. That uni is toying with its future. If care is not taken ppl would no longer apply there.... |
Fifthwave:CU is being cautious about expanding faculties so that the quality of those programs would not erode. The emphasis I believe right now is toughening up the Engineering faculty by building two centers of excellence in engineering and a Technology Hub for its computer science/engineering. But in the nearest future they would expand into other faculties. |
uyiekpenn:I knew it. That university has been recording a lot of complaints over telling ppl they HV carryover after graduation. |
uyiekpenn:Is your university in Delta? |
tdayof:Lol my likes gave me out ![]() I think the argument is stupid myself. I serve on the board of a Venture Capital, Distribution Company and a real estate agency, the person who leads the three subsidiaries is a graduate of Delsu while the majority of the other guys are from Federal Unis. Our Tech Lead Guy is a Covenant grad. So I have seen a pool of smart individuals from both sides of the aisle and I admit that there are equally unemployable folks from both sides too.

whitebeard:In some ways you are right. If public universities improve radically without raising fees and then decide to expand access then many private universities would simply suffer as patronage would drop sharply. Or If public universities improve radically without expanding access nor raising fees then private universities would enjoy patronage but from less qualified candidates.. However a few private universities can still thrive even with excellent cheap public universities existing and their selling point would be a good PRESTIGE. Any private university that is sensible enough should start working on its reputation by carving out a niche and becoming excellent in it now, so that when public universities start becoming better it won't ruin them. I believe Covenant is already prestigious, Pan Atlantic and ABUAD are also on course to have a distinct identity. Igbinedion and Madonna have sadly lost out despite having huge advantages as the First generation of private universities. |

Then the Arguments became more intense DesyNer

The post apparently infuriated many twitter users which then led to another trending tweet by another twitter user.

The argument started with this tweet of a Twitter user requesting for 10 software developers that are exclusively from Covenant University...
