Please let me understand...
Did they specifically mention that "the application hasn't passed the processing time for when you applied" ?
Its important to explain the context. Did you send the CSE after 5 weeks (when current processing time was 10 weeks and when processing time as at when you applied was 14 weeks?)

I have reasons I'm asking this...
I want to believe processing times are retrospective because CIC even says that "processing time tells you how long it took them to process most complete applications, in the past"... SO THEREFORE, any processing time you see on their website is a reflection of the average time it took them to process applications IN THE PAST! NOT the time it would take to process new applications in the future... Based on this, I think the processing time should be applied realtime.

Bracha:
When I applied the second time, I remember sending an email a few weeks after submitting the application, I received a response that was something like the application hadn't passed the processing time for when I applied. That was in 2017 tho. That application was all of 9 weeks and I was denied in the end.
Things may have changed now, but I answered from that experience.

if I may ask, how do you know this?

Bracha:
The processing time at the time you submitted is what applies to you.

Ranking of the school is what I mean by quality of the DLI

Schonebaby:

What do you mean by quality of DLI.
Rank of school. Is that what you're trying to say cos DLI is DLI..
Oh well. What matters to me is a fully funded stay in a lab with a professor who's work is perfectly aligned with my research interests.
I hear almost all Canadian public universities are good. I think it's difficult to establish a pattern with these visa things....they are simply unpredictable
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 15 by hilaryxoxo(f): 7:28pm On Mar 20, 2019
I co-ask this question.
Does the quality of DLI play a role in study permit decisions?
I’m quite knowledgible with USA visa processes and I can attest to the fact that the quality of school one is going to really helps with US study visa because it already sort of assures the VO that the applicant is a genuine student. Is this advantageous for Canadian study permit?

geofortress:
Good evening gurus in the biulding.. Ive been a silent reader here but Ive learnt a lot from this thread. I pray all TRV hopeful get thier TRV with joy asap.. Going by what ive read here and learnt, I have come to realize that many ppl here were denied due to similar reasons or so.. Infact a lilttle differences from others. But I havr this questions bordering me. What is the role of career progression and the quality of DLI plays in securing the TRV. Although, most people got their TRV with entirely different background to what they are going to study. But on the issue of DLI, its like most TRV applicants from here are either going for PGD, PDC pr diploma in colleges in which only few will secure funding either half or ful while majority have to pay tuition fee upfront or deposit before they apply for TRV. I rarely see ppl with admissions in to top schools in canada like UBC, Montreal, Alberta, Quebec, Calgary and co here nut ppl going to colleges or advanced high schools.. O stand to be corrected tho.. But i guess those top school will either admit you with respect to your background and funding either partial or full for thesis based and most of them dont have much Pgd or so.. I stand to be corrected too. There are limited funding for course based in those school and if you want to pay your fee, you will be very rich.

So my point is this.. Is the quality of DLI play a role in the TRV processes or not. Because those school meant business and thier research is topnotch with funding if you merit it.. They mostly admit with funding if im correct for thesis but cant say much on course based.

Also, is there anyone here that got admiited to those top schools with funding still finding it difficult with TRV?..
Im just curious about the career progression and quality of DLI coupled with the fact that they consider other things like hometies, available funds, travel history and purpose of visit.

Any guru here should please shed more light on this...
Thanks.. Im still a learner here biko..

This thread is really amazing! No doubts about that. But let’s not also forget that there are thousands of people that have neither consulted nairaland nor the services of agents, and have had TRV approvals. Upon speaking to a good number of them, I was extremely surprised to see that they didn’t submit many of the things that are recommended for people to submit here... and they were still successful! Consequently, It made me question the usefulness of some of these things and I expressed my opinion to see if there was any argument for these documents...

We need to understand a couple of things;
1. The fact that someone got a TRV approval does not make the person an expert on TRV matters.

2. The fact that someone submitted a certain document and got an approval does not make that “document” compulsory to submit (especially if it’s not a requirement on the CIC website)

3. You really cannot use one person’s model/template as the standard. As we already know, there is no one size fits all.

The point I’m trying to make is this;
1. We need to question why we are telling people to submit certain documents. For instance, this police character certificate. The fact that it is a PR application requirement DOES NOT MAKE IT IMPERATIVE TO SUBMIT for a TRV application. Who knows if it makes the VO start to think that you want to actually stay in Canada since you’re submitting the requirements for a PR. Plus since the things you submit, passes through a “genuinity test” (or what eveir they call it), what if these extra unnecessary documents just delays a candidates processing time since the immigration office would have to verify them..

Here we go again with the over sabi...

1. CIC did not ask us to submit police character certificate.

2. If it was such an important documentation, why isn’t it on their website

3. Have you ever seen a GCMS note that said “I am not convinced that this applicant is a real student because i don’t know anything about his criminal record”

4. This is Nigeria. I can be a criminal and still get a police character certificate. The VO’s should know how we roll.

DMerciful:
Police character is very important. That's how they know you don't have a criminal record!

My personal view is that we should follow the local Canadian visa requirements.

If they don't ask for notarized documents then don't notarize whatever you think. The only notorized thing they asked for on their website relates to minorities and documents that are not written in English/French.

Think about it, they don't refuse study permit for NON notarized documents (if of course is not written in official site). Another useless document that people bother attaching to their file is the police character document... another one that I saw on this thread is “affidavit of return” hahahaha!

If they need something extra from us, then I believe they will inform us.

We shouldn’t provide extra documents that won’t make make any difference. The Vo won’t see a notorized affidavit of support and say “oh, it’s notorised. It must be true”. Let’s all calm down!

hilaryxoxo:
WHat if we are the ones making this thing harder than it should be?

Which one is notorized affidavit of support again? All these filthy paper work that anyone can wake up and create. Tax return, CAC... what’s the VO’s business with how my sponsor is making their money? When did they become EFCC

Maybe we are the ones taking this thing more personal than it should be... And we are now indirectly making it a norm...

Please does “where are you applying from” have to do with the location you’re applying from or your citizenship? What happens if I am a Nigerian but wanna apply from Ghana?

Then he should just do his masters in University of Ibadan since it’ll arguably be better that these “B” “B-“ schools that’ll accept a 9th percentile quant score

Wretch32:
On the contrary he can be admitted (to a B or B- grade school) as a lot of other factors are considered in an application funding however is a long shot
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by hilaryxoxo(f): 7:50am On Nov 03, 2018
In other words, you’re 8th percentile in quant and 27th percentile in verbal. The truth is that no competitive school would give you admission with that score. Re-take the GRE!

Whats the name of the school?
Why would they put a different program on your I20? I think this definitely says a lot about the substance of the school...

Chiomlucy1:
Visa denied yesterday 20th June
I was interviewed by the black American woman.
Vo:I can see you are already working, where do you work and As what
Me:Telecommunications and as A relationship manager
Vo:I don't see how the course you are going for is in line with what you are doing[Speech Communications and Rhetoric]
Me:i was actually admitted into professional communication studies but that is the code the school uses for the course
Vo:what was your highest level of education
Me:B.sc Mass communication
Vo:Who is your sponsor's
Me:my mum
Vo:what does she do
Me:into vegetable oil production and distribution
Vo:Married
Me:No
Vo:kids
Me:No
Vo:Engaged
Me:No
Sorry you are not qualified for visa bla bla

After crying I called the school and explained what I went through to them, they sent me a letter addressing the embassy that what I applied for and got admitted into is Professional communication studies and not speech communication and rhetoric as stated on the i20.They also explained that the CIP code that has been approved by indiana higher learning commission is what I have on my i20 but for Sevis purposes the major comes up as Speech and Communications Rhetoric.

I'm really heart broken

A couple of questions to ask you;
1. How long have you endured it? If you've been doing it for a while, then you can just manage for another year.
2. You wanna go to an Ivy league for masters, its pretty expensive and I'm guessing you'd want to save something to cover the cost.
3. How about staying with a friend on the island during weekdays and going home during weekends?
4. I'm guessing you live around Ketu, Berger, etc because i also live on the mainland (think Yaba, Surulere) and i leave my house by 7:20 to get to work by 8. apartments are really cheap in my area - and im sure you're thinking of a self-con so you should find one for about 300k. 700k is too pricey if you ask me.

Now please can you kindly reply your email, i have something very urgent to ask you!

Fiyinfoluwa20:
Dear Nairalanders,

A little background. I am 25/m , my sister has taken care of me since I was 10 as we lost both parents at that age and we share a deep bond. Now, I work on the Island and I still stay with her on the mainland, trust me it is draining.

Everyday, I wake up by 4:00am, hit the road by 5;30am, get to work by 7:30-8:00am, to add to that I work very late get back to the mainland by 11:00pm sometimes( I work in the financial services sector) only to sleep for sometime and hit the road again. This is taking its toll on me health and career wise, as I am always very tired everyday even on the Job and I need to remedy this problem before it sends me to early grave.

Again, I can afford to get me something in the region of 700k on the Island, my account would take the hit, but what is the sense in accumulating money and not healthy enough to enjoy the accumulated wealth or treating sickness with it , not wise !

Now, I feel bad telling my sister I want to leave, note that she is married and have her own kids, but I am like her first child and I love her like a mom too.

Separately, I do not think I would be renewing the rent because , I have plans on leaving Nigeria a soon, its a plan though, but hey, don't know what would happen.

Guys, kindly advise, should I leave or endure till about a year when I'd be living the country?
