The christ and islam conects here. Look at the sura The Ranks In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. [61.1] Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth declares the glory of Allah; and He is the Mighty, the Wise. [61.2] O you who believe! why do you say that which you do not do? [61.3] It is most hateful to Allah that you should say that which you do not do. [61.4] Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as if they were a firm and compact wall. [61.5] And when Moses said to his people: O my people! why do you give me trouble? And you know indeed that I am Allah's apostle to you; but when they turned aside, Allah made their hearts turn aside, and Allah does not guide the transgressing people. [61.6] And when JESUS son of Marium said: O children of Israel! surely I am the apostle of Allah to you, verifying that which is before me of the Taurat and giving the good news of an Apostle who will come after me, his name being Ahmad, but when he came to them with clear arguments they said: This is clear magic. [61.7] And who is more unjust than he who forges a lie against Allah and he is invited to Islam, and Allah does not guide the unjust people. [61.8] They desire to put out the light of Allah with their mouths but Allah will perfect His light, though the unbelievers may be averse. [61.9] He it is Who sent His Apostle with the guidance and the true religion, that He may make it overcome the religions, all of them, though the polytheists may be averse. [61.10] O you who believe! shall I lead you to a merchandise which may deliver you from a painful chastisement? [61.11] You shall believe in Allah and H,is Apostle, and struggle hard in Allah's way with your property and your lives; that is better for you, did you but know! [61.12] He will forgive you your faults and cause you to enter into gardens, beneath which rivers flow, and goodly dwellings in gardens of perpetuity; that is the mighty achievement; [61.13] And yet another (blessing) that you love: help from Allah and a victory near at hand; and give good news to the believers. [61.14] O you who believe! be helpers (in the cause) of Allah, as~ JESUS son of Marium said to (his) disciples: Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah? The disciples said: We are helpers (in the cause) of Allah. So a party of the children of Israel believed and another party disbelieved; then We aided those who believed against their enemy, and they became uppermost. http://www.hti.umich.edu/cgi/k/koran/koran-idx?type=DIV0&byte=874756 |
"If the truth is that ugly -- which it is -- then we do have to be careful about the way that we tell the truth. But to somehow say that telling the truth should be avoided because people may respond badly to the truth seems bizarre to me." --Chuck Skoro, Deacon, St. Paul's Catholic Church How Reliable Is The Bible As A Source Of Guidance? http://www.bidstrup.com/bible.htm If not translated and edited properly, and full of obvious errors and logical contradictions, how reliable can the bible really be as a source of guidance? The bible suffers from four problems in this regard. First, we can't know that what we are reading are words that convey the meaning the original writers intended, because the original texts are long lost, and the best we have for most of these documents are many generations removed from the originals. That problem has been the subject of this essay, and by now it should be very clear that after the multitudinous revisions, translations and editing by at least the 150 people who produced what we now call the Bible, there's way too much room for error to safely claim that it is error free. The second problem from which the Bible suffers is the doctrinal content of the Bible itself. As Shakespeare observed, the Bible can be made to advocate anything you desire. Want a blatant, wrathful, vengeful god, zapping everything and everyone who doesn't stay out of His way, demanding genocide, infanticide and even slavery? Exodus is the book for you. Want a harsh, strict, angry, meanspirited code for living? Can't do better than Leviticus. Want a quiet, subtle, unknowable god who seldom intervenes but can be known only by sincere prayer and soulful supplication, who is kindly, gentle and forgiving? If so, Paul has written the scriptures you want. it's all there in the same book. The third problem is that the Bible has many contradictions and errors in it, not just of obvious facts, but of doctrine as well. This is one reason why Shakespeare was so right. If you want to justify the dashing out of brains of infants, you can find justification for it in the injuctions of God in the bible. If on the other hand, you want to justify a ban on abortion, you can find it there too. So which is it? Of course that has to be a matter of personal interpretation, and any fundamentalist who argues otherwise simply isn't reading his Bible. One has to interpret matters of doctrine for himself, because the Bible is so often directly contradictory on matters of doctrine. A fourth problem relates to the Bible but is not of it. And that is the problem of interpretation. The same passage of the same book of the same translation of the Bible can mean entirely different things to people of different religious backgrounds. It can mean entirely unrelated things to the Mormon, to the Southern Baptist, to the Seventh Day Adventist and to the Guatemalan Catholic as well as to the African Pentacostal. Who is right? Is anyone right? Who knows? How can anyone resolve such conflicts |
cheekee:cheekee Your knowledge of the Bible look questionable. The Bible say... Say what ? give us the fact if you are not fake. |

Cheerful tithe givers are welcome like this woman 41 ¶ And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. |
Dinnie, Listen as Jesus said in Mark 12 38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, 39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: 40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation. |
Money! Money is the root of evil. No no no do not talk to man of God like that for tithe sake. |
FG, corporate bodies hold onto HND/Degree discrimination By Olubusuyi Adenipekun Posted to the Web: Thursday, January 12, 2006 Federal Government gave an impression last week that the official policy which approved a discriminatory treatment against holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) in the country has been reversed, there is no hope that both government and corporate bodies will end the disparity between the polytechnic and university graduates. Indeed, the announced reversal of the policy which prevents HND holders from rising above salary grade level 14 in the civil service is a policy sommersault. This is so because the federal government recently gave the impression that it was more interested in employing university graduates than HND holders when it directed the federal civil service to commence the process of employing graduates with first and second class upper degrees. No directive was given on HND holders with high grades. In effect, the scapping of the salary disparity is to be enjoyed by HND holders who are already in the civil service. This employment discrimination which polytechnic products suffer is not limited to government establishments alone. The situation is worse with corporate organisations which do not consider HND holders worthy of being offered employment opportunities. In recent years, most newspaper staff vacancy advertisements of banks, oil companies and other corporate bodies request for university graduates with first class and second class upper degrees only, without considering HND holders with equally high grades. Recently, some banks announced that polytechnic products on their staff would be disengaged as part of the process of consolidation in the banking sector. Two important developments engendered the employment discrimination which HND holders are now contending with. The first is the abysmally poor performances of many university graduates at work places, an unsavoury situation that arose from the diminishing standards of education in the country. Many employers have had to expend a fortune on retraining graduate employees before they can be productive. If many university graduates of nowadays are so deficient, many prospective employers readily jumped to the conclusion that polytechnic products are simply not employable. The second cause of the discrimination of HND holders in job offers has to do with the poor state of the economy rather than their academic deficiency. According to Mrs Abimbola Odugbesan, rector of Yaba College of Technology between 1994 and 2001, "the reason why HND holders are being rejected by many organisations is not as if they are inferior or because they don’t perform. The main problem is that the economy is bad, it is employers’ market. They find a way of weeding people out. You have seen polytechnic graduates excelling in many areas. Private establishments should first assess the performances of HND holders instead dismissing themoutrightly." This view is informed by experience from interview panels which shows that those with HND could put up more impressive performance than those brandishing degree certificates. Government itself is quite aware of the enormous contributions of many HND holders to national development. According to the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Education, Alhaji Ahmad Lawan "so many HND holders have contributed or are contributing very meaningfully to the development of Nigeria but the discrimination that is put on them places some kind of disadvantage not only on the holders but on the country as well." Vocational and technical education, say analysts, has been identified as the bedrock of the nation’s, technological and industrial take off which the nation badly craves for and any policy that discriminates against the products of such technical education is simply a misdirected one. Enigma, Are those Wells still there at Kent? They look like pots for the tithe collection. Full of coins. |
chrisd:Wonderful contribution. Enigma:Donnie will not agree with all these, because his church has been given to the poor. Such things as cars etc. |
Good talk, Praise the Lord. So tithe should be understood as free will given. Not the one forced upon you. Is that right? Good talk. |
This a real picture of life after death. Where will the driver go? this is my concern. |
Intresting. Money! the root of evil. Nobody cares about the paradise anymore only money and what money can buy. With all the details from the bible, Nigerian are not to pay tithe. No Levities here. Where are the Aron Children to witness? Stealing by method and defending falsehood. Religion is away of life. Be free to rob in the Name of the LORD |
otokx:That is about temple tax. Yearly contribution/church dues they are not the same as TITHE. |
Kz, Some of us know all those detail, Please link it with tithe. The Bishop is a christian with his own free will |
The first Bishop with modern view of things. What will be his views on topics like this Tithe or No tithe |
The idea that the Bible came into being in some sort of miraculous way and is either the literal dictation of God or even the "inspired message of God" is simply not supportable on its face. The Bible is a profoundly human, deeply flawed, tribal history that has created as much pain as blessing in our world. So becareful not to waste your money on TITHE because it is not Biblical. Only in given can you receive. It is good to give cheerfully. |
Bishop Spong said and I Qoute "we need to state some basic biblical facts. The people who wrote the books in the Bible did not think they were writing "The Word of God." That is a quite elementary but singularly important place to begin. In regard to the first five books of the Bible, called the Torah or the Books of Moses, scholars have known since the 19th century, that they are not the work of a single hand. They are rather a compilation of at least four strands of Jewish writing that were composed over a period of some 500 years. Those strands were first, the Yahwist document, written in the tenth century B.C.E. and sometimes called the Hebrew Iliad, which reflects the national history of the Southern Kingdom of Judah. The second was the Elohist document, written in the 9th century B.C.E. and sometimes called the Hebrew Odyssey, which reflects the national history of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. After the fall of the Northern Kingdom to the Assyrians in 721 B.C.E., these two national stories were woven together into a single narrative. The third document was the product of one known as the Deuteronomic writer, composed in the late 7th century B.C.E., and consisting of the book of Deuteronomy and a general editing of the newly merged national Jewish story. The fourth source of the Torah was not so much a document as it was an expansive editorial commentary applied to the entire faith story by those called the Priestly Writers and written during the Babylonian Exile somewhere between 586 and 450 B.C.E. That is the process, briefly described, that produced the oldest part of the biblical story. One can identify the places where these versions of the story were woven rather inexactly together, producing many of the conflicting details in the Torah itself. The Sabbath day law, for example, developed during the Exile, is read back into the manna in the wilderness story to make sure that the miraculous food was not gathered on the seventh day in violation of the Sabbath. The ritualistic laws governing sacrifices were used to alter the Noah story so that during the 150 days on the ark, Noah could offer the proper sacrifices without destroying that species. Finally, there are three versions of the Ten Commandments in the Torah. The oldest one, from the Yahwist document, is found in Exodus 34. The version with which most of us are familiar, found in Exodus 20, comes from the Elohist document but was significantly doctored by the Priestly Writers. The third version is in Deuteronomy 5 and though close to Exodus 20 has some revealing differences. The Deuteronomic version of the 4th Commandment makes the reason for rest on the Sabbath, not that God rested from the work of creation and thus hallowed that day, but that the Jews should remember that they were once slaves and that even slaves need a day of rest. The seven-day creation story, with which the Bible now opens, was written by the Priestly Writers well after the Deuteronomic document had been completed". |
donnie:Is this not a case of psychosis? I am sorry, psychosis is defined as the loss of contact with reality, a psychiatric disorder such as schizophrenia or mania that is marked by delusions, hallucinations( hearing Strange voices alone ), incoherence, and distorted perceptions of reality. |
. Secular people live in a post-religious world where the idea that a literary work, written between 1000 B.C.E. and 135 C.E., can be "the Word of God," is simply too far-fetched to believe. This obvious ecclesiastical power play is no longer even passively accepted as benign. One has only to chart the evil and pain that many people have endured in history because someone regarded the Bible as the "Word of God." That claim is no longer regarded as valid. |
Donnie, I love you too. I notice your dogmatic believe is young that is why is so strong for you to believe falsehood. You were fast to quote from the new testament now to defend your self. Tithe or no tithe we are able to educate ourselves. Not all churches practices came from Christ he never establish a church, not all practices are biblical either. some are cultural which we can not be adopt here in Nigeria. When Paul suggested that a woman's head must be covered in public worship, he was expressing a cultural norm not a universal principle. When Paul said, "I forbid a woman to have authority over a man" or when he suggested that those who do not worship God properly would have their sexual identities confused, does one really want to suggest that this badly dated bit of human ignorance is to be reverenced as the voice of God? Can you go and work for your in-law now for five year to marry ? If your wife ask you to have fun with your house maid now for her to have a child for you will you trust her? Or if an angel commanded you to offer your loved one to him like Isaac & Abraham will you Obey? Such is the case at hand. |
That reminds me what Bishop use to say as follows "The Word of God?"This is the word of the Lord"That is the liturgical phrase used in Christian churches to mark the end of a reading from the Bible. It is a strange, even a misleading, phrase. Yet Sunday after Sunday it is repeated, reinforcing in the psyches of worshipers a rather outdated attitude toward Holy Scripture. In many of its details, the Bible is simply wrong! Epilepsy is not caused by demon possession. David did not write the Psalms. The earth is not the center of the universe. On other issues of great public concern, the Bible is no longer even regarded as moral. Its verses have been used to affirm war, slavery, segregation and apartheid. It defines women as inferior creatures ." What? yes it is like the tithe case extracted out of context , yet It is from the word of God |
