@Dudu. Put your bet on it, we are not winning the league even if we sign a defender n goalkeeper. Not with this team.
Are you a soothsayer?
It's shocking to say this after only one match and with the transfer window still open for about 2 weeks.
So which team do you want?
Sell Rozzi, fab4,RVP, Theo,Koc,TV5 and. . . . .
get CR9,Rooney,Drogba,Kaka, Messi,Sneider,Forlan and Ozil.
That can only happen in a fantasy league competition, not in real life grin

I think some of us Gooners have to calm down
I have said earlier that even if we sign Casilias and Puyol, there is no guarantee that we may win anything.
All the journalist/pundit in Britain are now saying we will only win the league if we sign a goalie and a Centre back
I guess,
so that when we win, they will say:
'Yeah, I told you so in August'
Trying to be smart by not saying 'We won't win anything'
Check out Andy Gray screaming after Ngog scored, saying' 'A top Premier league goalie shouldn't be conceding such'
Now what was said after Pepe Reina's goof
'It's not usual of him making that kinda mistake'.
I hear him lipsrsealed
I predicted a 1-1 draw earlier.
Game is done and dusted
It's just the 1st game of the season.
37 more to play!

@Myself2
All AW said was that whoever kept against 'pool is his number 1(for now)
and he said that because of the multitude of questions coming from journos as regards the Goalie situation.
The Press has made everyone believe that Arsenal just need to sign a Goalie(even Gordon Banks) and we'll win the league grin

Must have watched Al's saves more than a dozen times.
Go and watch the save from Johnson and Stevie G again.
They were world class, comparable to Hart's.

I am not pressing any alarm buttons yet.
Except Arshavin who had an off day,
everyone did well.
If you blame Almunia for the goal, how about his super saves earlier.
Playing 10 vs 11 can be very difficult at times, moreso if you go down 0-1 to a team down to 10  men

@Kit
I dare you to name any goalie that is 2nd choice in the EPL that isn't at par with Almunia(apart from Hart/Given)
Almunia was brought in as a 2nd goalie, which meant he was not supposed to be  1st choice.
The mistake AW made was not getting a good 1st choice goalie when Jens lost his postion to him in the 07/08 season.
That should have been a priority when that season ended.
I am not sure we have ever been faced with such Goalie crisis at Arsenal.
If you asked me today to still pick a number 1 for Arsenal,I will rather Almunia than all the others.
Not sensible to bring in a new goalie and let Almunia go,if the new goalie gets injured,Fabianski again shocked shocked shocked

We should offload him to the arsenal to complement the list of duds at the club as wenger seems to have a thing for mediocre goalies tongue

that may just fulfill his fantasies , don't you think grin grin

on a serious note: I still have some confidence in the lad to produce the goods in Cech's absence, he is experienced and has risen to the most

difficult challenges in the past. I will attribute his woeful performance in recent times to drop in form which all goalies and players are subjected to.
I don't even think he has been that woeful in recent times.
The tabloids and bloggers just delight in writing rubbish about him.
First of all, he has a 'whack' name for a Goalie grin
Apart from that he's been an alright 2nd goalie.
It's plain daft to be comparing him with Cech.
(Cech is arguably the best Goalie in the world)
He's done a good job everytime he 's been called on.

Cos thats what he really his.

Did u rememba last season against Bham, when Alumnia pushed the ball into his own net,we were not far away from toppin the table. Also rememba against west ham when manone punched the ball into the path of C.Cole and the goal gave em the boost, those 2 games with a quality goalie we would have been sitting comfortably @ the top of the league, yet he's still hasnt signed a Goalie and dudu will come here typing a whole booklet on how Sylv's a very good signing.Am so pissed off right now, glad i didnt phone in on ATV.
@Folly,
Lemme play the Devil's advocate here.
Against Birminham, Almunia pushed the ball into his own net, but try and remember earlier in the season against West Ham at the Emirates.
We were leading 1-0, when TV5 was sent off and a penalty awarded.
Almunia saved a beautifully taken penalty by Diamanti
That coulda been the turning point of that game.
Also, go back and watch the first leg match against Barca at the Emirates.
It must have been his best performance in the Jersey.
It could have been 4-0 to barca within 13-15 minutes.
How about Manone?
Before his disaster showing at Upton Park,
I saw young Vito single handedly win Arsenal a game against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
We ran away with a lone goal scored by RVP, but really we didnt even play well enough to leave with a draw.
The Goalie's we have(except fabianski grin), have actually won us points also.
But maybe u need your Number 1 to be consistent throughout the sesaon.

IMO,we STILL NEED a new goalie, and then make Almunia number 2.
Loan out Fabianski and Keep Manone as 3rd choice.
When the window closes, I will air my opinion on our chances this season.

The point of his argument is that Arsenal has won a trophy since NL was created, instead of dwelling on their miserable record.

Portsmouth and Spurs have won titles in between that period. Most Arsenal fans on NL have not encountered the feeling of winning anything.I'm sure he's one of them

The defenders are not the problem, the problem is our defensive style. Do we press the ball, do we defend deep, we have not even perfected the defensive highline we have adopted. We are totally sacrificing defense for an all out attack play. Hence our players are becoming less and less defense minded.
@Slim
I had this arguement with some guys over the weekend.
We will continue to suffer because of this highline that we play.
If you play like that, you've got to have enough mobile midfielders to cover up.
Watch when we are being 'countered', it's only the defenders sprinting back to cover.
All others are simply jogging back.
In short, IMO, until we get players that will be disciplined enough to play this style, we are wasting time.
Once again, we will get away with it this term, playing against Blackpool,West Brom,Bolton and co
But what happens against the Chelsea,Manures and Barcas of this world?
Put Buffon and Cech together in goal and we'll still concede basketful of goals,if somethin' is not done about the defence.
P.S:Can't we just get Tony Adams or Keown to come and coach us defensively?
