The problem is that you don't understand the psychological impact of such actions.

Let me tell you a first hand experience, in my 1st job I was told on the first day that everyone is addressed by their 1st name including the CEO. What I noticed was that in meeting people were free to share their opinion on issues. They address their boss directly without fear of animosity because psychology the way you view people actually affects how honest and how you react to issues around them.

As the years progressed I found myself in a company run with typical Nigerian value system in which when the CEO walks into the elevator with his security personnel every other person exit. You dire not address your boss with their 1st name even some you had to affix ma and sir to all your statements. Go the meetings and you noticed that mostly those at the lower end of the hierarchy just watch on and rarely contribute or share their opinion. Mostly they are good at sharing their graviance behind their bosses back. While their bosses carry on lording over them without anywhere for then to turn without being termed disrespectful.

I doubt if you have actually experienced life outside the Nigerian context to understand the negative impact on some of our values and how it feeds into the very problem we face today as a nation.

That we have currupt individuals as leaders does not erode the richness of our values. You failed to name the Tai solarins, Dora Akuyinli, Gani Fawehinmis that stood for what is right and good. Mind you brother, every culture world wide have a barbaric side to it but every culture have its peculiarities. When modernizing your culture, inculcate only the progressive and positive aspects and discard of the frivolities. The Asians are a good example of this. Despite their modernization, they refuse to discard of their moral inclines. A school child should concentrate on their education and overall metal growth not body enhancements. I am not going to fault your position because that is what it should be. The point I was trying to make is that most people are quick to say Africa values forgetting that some of those values are nothing short of oppression and retrogression.
Use the case of what happened to this child, how those the action of public shaming ( which to a large extend has become our ways of life) help in the grooming of a generation that are well balanced to take on the future.

Mental capacity, awareness and understanding how to raise a family has nothing to do with procreation. If you knock up a mental challenged female or a mad woman I am sure in 15 years time the child will be about fifteen, that doesn't automatically upgrades the mother's mental capacity or transform her from mad woman to a same woman that can make rational decision at all times.

I live in society where kids are taught for instance how to brush teeth properly and do basic everyday thing you would expect every parents to know. The truth is that not every parent has the capability to make rational decision at all time. This is a glitch in our reproductive system that rewards almost every one female and male of age with a baby irrespective of their mental capacity and their ability to successfully raised children.

In order to cater for this vulnerable subset of our population, whic of course is no fault of the child, we should endeavour to teach and help everyone grow rather than shaming and humiliating them into not being free to learn.

As not knowing things will only open them to ridicule, no one learns in such an environment.

Yes it is a school guided by rules and regulations. Does the regulations state that public shaming is the punishment for not dressing as prescribed in the school dress code?

Secondly, she looks like a teen this is a critical period in her developmental phase, I believe the school should have had a private talk with the mom and daughter, and let them understand that such is not acceptable.

While in the principle office she should be made to take it off and serve her punishment quietly.

If you're single, you feed yourself and have a roof over your head, then you can marry. There are no special bills or taxes for married people. Your stomach and portion of food do not get bigger with marriage. Your electricity or water bill do not increase because you're married. In a sane clime, if on the average it takes you 5 liters of water to bath a day. When you the number of your house hold increases by 1 at least your water usage will double.

For cooking if you alone consumes 3 cups of rice a week and say it cost you 100 naira. When you the size of your household increases by 1 at least your expensive on rice on the minimum will be 150 naira based on the assumption that your wife consumes half as much as you do.

Well you may keep this roof but when your family size grows and the living space per individual decreases beyond the required minimum living space for an individual, stress sets in, diseases and other psychological issues creeps in. These alone reduces not only the quality of life the members of the household but it also depletes the family resources: low productivity from stress, use resources that would have been put aside for investment for treating communicable disease etc.

Should you ever have to stop and think some day in the future, remember that having the highest number of patients does not necessarily mean having the highest number of infected from the place. The number of patients could be as rest of affected population in the area, or the quality of care in the area compare to neighbours area hence the influx of patients form out of state etc.
