The pressure on us is too much. The ladies want you to pay their bills, your family are on your neck, the church thinks you're capable of this and that, extended relatives don't want to hear that you're financially down and everyone else.

No wonder you'd almost never hear that a woman committed suicide. You've rarely see a lady in jail for doing something related to money and they never take risks like these...

Attempting to leave Africa at all cost, Spanish police guards on duty at the border in Beni-Enzar, Morocco arrested four stowaway migrants in less than 3 hours on Saturday, May 24, 2019. Images of the migrants have since flooded the internet and trended on social media.

The four Moroccan migrants whose names and identities have yet to be made public include a 15-year-old girl, two young men aged 20 and 21 and a 31-year-old man.

While one was caught hiding behind a car’s dashboard, the other three were caught in an engine compartment behind a car’s rear seats and in a dumper truck respectively in different cars.

The migrants have since been arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment after suffering from pains in various parts of their bodies, suffocation and disorientation due to the strange positions they were in. The drivers of each vehicle have also been taken in by the police for questioning.

This is not the first time Spanish officers working at the border have reported such attempts to enter Europe. Since January there have been arrests of several Africans hiding in all sorts of places with the hope of crossing over to Europe. Same can be said in several other Northern African countries that share borders with or are close to European countries such as Libya, Tunisia and Egypt.

With the number of visa rejections on the rise since 2017, several Africans are returning to the rather dangerous method of making the trip to Europe and making a life there.

In January 2019, two men were found sewn into mattresses in Morocco with hopes of making it into Europe through Spain. A 12-year-old boy was also discovered behind a dashboard in 2017.

In 2017, Spanish authorities arrested a man and a woman from Guinea hiding in the dashboard of a car attempting to enter Spain through the Ceuta.

In 2016, a Moroccan woman was arrested for attempting to smuggle an African immigrant inside a travel suitcase at the airport.

In December last year, hundreds of desperate illegal African migrants caused a security breach when they attempted to scale the fence from the Moroccan end and climb into Ceuta. The incident left more than 50 Moroccan and Spanish border guards injured.

Migrants who prefer to travel through Libya usually join illegal boats which could lead to death from drowning, cold or being shot.

Politics / Re: Buhari Declares N30m, 5 Homes, 270 Heads Of Cattle by HomeOfMe(f): 11:54am On May 29, 2019
nelsonjay:
President Muhammadu Buhari has in compliance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, submitted his assets declaration forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), with no significant changes in assets as declared in 2015, when he said he had N30m, five homes and 270 heads of cattle.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Media and Publicity, said the president has submitted his forms in compliance with the law that asset declaration must precede his oath-taking slated for Wednesday.

According to Garba, the forms, as signed by the President and sworn to before a Judge of the Abuja High Court, showed no significant changes in assets as declared in 2015 by him.

“There are no new houses, no new bank accounts at home and abroad and there are no new shares acquired”, he said.

The implication is that the President’s assets have not significantly changed than he declared in 2015.

In 2015, Buhari declared that he had N30 million to his name.

Culture / Re: Learning From the Life of HungerBad by HomeOfMe(f): 4:20pm On May 24, 2019
TONYE001:
Hello,

Good morning.

Trust you all are doing OK.

Firstly, I would love to start by explaining why I brought this to the Culture Section of Nairaland. We were taught that culture is people's way of life. This piece addresses our way of life, here on Nairaland, at least.

I woke up to meet the sad news of the demise of this wonderful fellow, HungerBad. I didn't have any direct dealings with him but I knew him for two things - his comments and his benevolence. May his soul rest in God's perfect peace, may those he left behind find strength to carry on.

Nairaland is a faceless forum. Each day we come online, we interact with monikers, sometimes we forget that behind these monikers are actual humans with real names, families and real lives. I've been here for a while. I've seen things. I've seen people play over someone's depression, I've seen people mock others that need some sort of help or the other. I've seen people say terrible things about others. I've seen people wish others death. I've seen comments where users threaten to kill others. In the heat of the just concluded elections, I saw folks do things that I fear even animals may not do to themselves. I've seen people celebrate the deaths of others. This list is endless.

But there's more. I've seen good deeds go down here too. A couple of times, I've seen fundraising threads for one sick person or the other. I've seen sincere efforts by people to help other people with jobs, tuition, etc. The annual Xfire Scholarship comes to mind. HungerBad's repeated show of kindness comes to mind too.

HungerBad was a kind fellow. Regular users of this forum must have come across his good deeds at one point or the other. He was not discouraged by the activities of scammers that's of course ubiquitous here. He looked beyond the lines of cultural divisions. He gave to all. Hausas. Igbos. Yorubas.

To HungerBad, it didn't matter whether you are Christian or Muslim. All that mattered to him was that you needed help. More like, a human needs help. This was enough for him.

There are a few lessons we all can pick from this fellow. Our country is already in a terrible state. People are jobless, people are angry. Why heat it further with tribalism and extreme political views? The elite continue to take the common man for a ride. They play on the gullibility of the average Nigerian. They exploit the natural hatred each geopolitical region has for the other. Why then do we hurt ourselves the more? Why can't we show unconditional love to each other just like our dear HungerBad did?

We tend to be unaware that behind each moniker is a human that may be at the verge of taking his life. We make all sorts of derogatory comments not minding the possible impacts. We forget too that silence, that is, not commenting on each and every thread, is an option. Mr. A opens a thread about a certain problem he's confronted with. Maybe a health challenge. The first commenter calls him unprintable names and makes jest of his condition. The second commenter follows suit and a cascade is set.

Who would have known that HungerBad was in the US Army? You can't be sure of the person behind a moniker you just wrongly attacked. He may be the doctor that stood for hours doing a procedure on your brother, he may be the driver that helped your stranded sister, she may be the lawyer that fought for the right of your daughter, or the good Samaritan that donated massively for the health of your father.

In conclusion, I urge each and every one of us to follow peace with all men. We must treat each other with a sense of respect. We must be quick to help, if we can. If we can't, we must move on, this is better than worsening the situation with an out-of-place comment.

Lastly, life is temporary. Whether we continue to live or die can be decided in seconds. Let's carry this consciousness at the back of our minds as we pursue our day-to-day activities.

Thank you.

cc: Ishilove, Lalasticlala.
Oh I'm actually just seeing this. May his soul rest in peace and God console his loved ones.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Theresa May Announces Her Resignation As British Prime Minister by HomeOfMe(f): 4:07pm On May 24, 2019
Ayodele70:
Theresa May has bowed to intense pressure from her own party and named 7 June as the day she will step aside as Conservative leader, drawing her turbulent three-year premiership to a close.

Speaking in Downing Street, May said it had been “the honour of my life” to serve as Britain’s second female prime minister.

Her voice breaking, she said she would leave “with no ill will, but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve the country I love”.

The prime minister listed a series of what she said were her government’s achievements, including tackling the deficit, reducing unemployment and boosting funding for mental health.

But she admitted: “It is and will alway remain a matter of deep regret to me that I have not been able to deliver Brexit.

May’s announcement came after a meeting with Graham Brady, the chair of the backbench 1922 Committee – which was prepared to trigger a second no-confidence vote in her leadership if she refused to resign.

Her fate was sealed after a 10-point “new Brexit deal”, announced in a speech on Tuesday, infuriated Tory backbenchers and many of her own cabinet – while falling flat with the Labour MPs it was meant to persuade.

http://www.amagitesblog.com/2019/05/theresa-may-announces-her-resignation-as-british-prime-minister.html

It was really an emotional-laden speech. I wish her all the best. These are people with integrity.

It is a common phenomenon on social media forums or groups. An easy way of identifying very weak and inferior men. They seldom come to terms with the possibilities of a successful woman. They were raised by fathers who subdued their mothers as they watch their mothers beg for daily soup fees.

Not every house built or car bought by a woman is from the proceeds of prostitution. There are very hard working women who work their butts off and crack their brains to earn a living. When they step out in style on a weekend to relax, then a local riffraff calls up the olosho name. Sic!

Some weak men actually feel better about themselves when they call women those names, they feel fulfilled.

The snake has been living inside the hollow blocks at the top for sometime before wall plastering was done and before windows and pop ceiling were fixed.

Long before we started living in that house i use to see one particular greenish yellowish snake reering up its head from the top blocks whenever i visit the site. Then builiding was not completed. Thinking that upon completion of the building ... the snake should have left.
Thorough fumigation is what you need to do. Since in the ceiling like you said, garlic won't do muck. Garlic can work if it were hiding somewhere on the floor of your house. They hate the smell of garlic and onions.

Hello everyone,

There is snake living in my roof. It has been over 2 years now the reptile has been living in there. I first noticed it sometimes in 2017 when i saw snake skin in my roof. I have blocked all entry holes for lizard and the likes thinking the snake would die or leave due to starvation ....but it didnt leave and the snake seems to be thriving in there. I dont know what its eating.

I taught of fumigation but i think the snake can escape the fumigation odor because it can easily hide in the deep block holes.

I cant go in there, as am writing this i can hear the snake moving all about in my attic.

What can i do to get rid of it?

MODS: If its not too much i want this in front page for better audience or opinions.
How did the snake get to your ceiling. Do you have trees touching your roof?
