Car TalkRe: Kalashnikov AK-47 Maker To Fight Tesla With This 1970s-styled Electric Supercar by Homguy(m): 10:59am On Aug 27, 2018
ClickSis:
I guess I need to be tutored here. How can the acceleration of a car be higher than its maximum speed?
acceleration can be higher than max speed.
Max speed is more a function of horse-power, while acceleration is more dependent on torque(Rate of change of Force(~F/T)).

Jakumo:
You have been supporting a spare parts industry based in the Ladipo area of Lagos, purely with donated components from your Corrola car.

Given that the federal government has been lax in its support of spare parts dealers, your donations of vital car parts will likely earn you a chieftaincy or knighthood title, that will soon be awarded in a lavish ceremony organized by the appreciative parts retailers based at Ladipo.

Ariiiise, Sir Kwiin, and acknowledge our bestowed honors on this day.

until, the spike in import duty, the corolla was literally the most popular/best selling car in nigeria. as such they are still the car of choice for being stolen from because they are very popular. it got so bad in my neighbourhood that people no longer leave cars outside at night. in the space of five months, three corollas were vandalized - one twice.

sadly, it is usually someone in the neighbourhood who is into 'spare parts'

in my old close there was one such seller. he was never caught, but when he suddenly died, the car vandalization died with him.
this is funny, but sad.

How dare they? APC is full of criminals and thieves and they dear labek Saraki a thief ? I am not a saaraki fan but this is the height of it
A oarrty whose members show us daily they are above the law, tinubu has use the minister of finance Adeosun to approve so many contracts for his private companies , tinubu has stolen with Oando , stolen from Lagos state

Let's even.look at Oshiomole what he stolen from Edo state , these criminals stela and impose a successor so they are not probed

Useless thieves

Infsct the more they attack Saraki has made me.decide to vote for him if he runs
an article written by an agency in the Uk? You are deluded, more importantly you are the ' zombi'.
While others may allso be corrupt in the Pdp and Apc, Saraki is the senate president of Nigeria, further, he is contemplating vying for presidency.
Nigeria can definitely do better that having Saraki as the president.
If you were paid t o support Apc or pdp you should do it with some sense at least.
These animals steal wealth that our future generations should enjoy but they still have supporters like you?

Having a business in America is good. Six years of hard work, hard savings, hard determination, hard focus, landed me a business, healthcare IT staffing business. You can't imagine what I rake in per day. There are some sweet European countries good for business (Sweden, Norway, Germany...) , language barrier is a thorn in the flesh here.

Don't waste time in America, do what you gat to do while the sun shines, have plans, have focus. Many things can derail one's life here. Life is good here, plenty babes, plenty attractions, access to loans, cars, mortgages et al. Some peeps would work a $10/hr job for years with no determination or plans to go to school, online studies.... C'mon, do not get stuck on a life like that. Make plans and make the moves then you good.. smiley
great advice! Thanks

Hey guys. Following our successful visa interview, I want to inform the nairaland family that I and my siblings have finally touched down in chicago. We would be calling this place home for now.

Im so happy to have fled nigeria grin grin

Tips on how to survive the cold? Where to shop? etc would be welcome.
..

the boded above is the introduction line from the op when he opened the thread,he has talked about things like...

...his personal and that of his family life.
...His many admirers he left behind back home.
...the erratic behaviors of his co workers.
...his work experiences/relationships with his clients.
...many highways and traffic rules.
...how many girls he's involved with.
...his present job versus his future job(s).
...his educational goals and career choice.
...vehicles and cost of maintenance.
...His choice of foods,hobbies and many more.

Now,tell me how those things mentioned above related to you living in Nigeria?.what kind of important info that would affect your life do you expect to get from these stuffs?.
I think you and your likes are the one derailing this thread with your selfish expectations and vetting all posts here is disrespectful to say the least because its obvious the thread was not created for you and your likes,you are just to observe and not to claim one stupid entitlement you don't merit.There are other threads that may appeal to your expectations especially the one below,you may follow the thread cos it seems the op was actually talking to folks like you in Nigeria.

You know this could be done in 3 lines shocked

passage = input('Enter the passage:\n')
word = input('\nThe word to be counted:\n')
print('\n{} appears {} time/times.'.format(word, passage.count(word)))

You should learn about built in string functions in Python.
Thanks for this. I believe I may not be able to grasp all built-in functions in python and what they do except by practise ,time, experience and guidance like you have just provided. I recall I have checked pycharm's library of inbuilt functions but cannot remember coming across count().

Snwokenk:
What happens if someone puts a non numeric character into the string.
the line:
srt = str(n)
is not necessary since k is already a string.
When accepting input from user/internet always error check!

something like:
def digit_sum(n):
srt= str(n)
count=0
for num in srt:
try:
count+= int(num)
except ValueError:
pass # this can even be a print ie print('{} is not a number'.format(num))
# or using the new f string in 3.6+ print(f"{num} is not a number"wink
return count
Wow! I didnt know I could test inputs without "if" conditionals. So I assume that "try " statement attempts the action, and if there is an error runs the line under ValueError. I will try this in my next code.

Thanks boss.
Btw, what part of python applications is most intresting and sellable in your opinion. Web apps? Gui programming?

ProgrammingRe: New To Python, Gurus Please Help Solve These Challenges. Thanks. by Homguy(op):
This code is one that takes a passage and censors any words that you choose by replacing it with any other word you choose. This idea came from codecademy but codes we used to achieve the are different. This is my code construct, its way shorter than codes posed on the forum.
If here is a better way of doing this, please share.
Thanks.

Modified: I found out that this code is not as robust as it should be. if the word u want to censor exists as part of a larger word, it censors that larger word too.
For eample: ( 'There was a bit too much salt in the bitter bittle' ,censor= 'bit' ,replace= '*')
Result _ 'There was a *** too much salt in the ***ter ***bittle'.

def censor(text,word):
return text.replace(word,rep)

texte=input('please input your passage: ')
worde=input('please input forbidden word: ')
rep=input('please input the new word: ')
k=censor(texte,worde)
print(k)

def digit_sum(n):
srt= str(n)

for num in srt:
count+= int(num)
return( count)
k = input('please input a number: ')

p= digit_sum(k)

I will stay out of this one, for now.

Actually, I changed my mind. You need to read up on American history. Im talking Native American history, slavery, post slavery,Mexican American relations during that period, and civil rights era. You will see that tribalism and racism in the states are two different beasts. I agree on some of your points however.
I think it would be an interesting read, but am sure twont be any time soon.

Babyvet : I understand that racism in the states is multi-faceted, but believe that Africans see themselves as superior to African Americans, hence, one shouldnt really be bothered by any tantrums they might throw.

These for me are just internal mental bolsters that i think should help an immigrant African in the US or Canada deal with overt or covert racism.I hope they hold up eventually.
TravelRe: Yankee: through the eyes of a village boy. by Homguy(m): 9:06pm On Aug 05, 2018
Nigerians and Africans in general shouldn't really complain about racism, especially in the absence of any violence. Within African countries and even in Nigeria, we continually segregate, fight and kill ourselves on the basis of tribe. I dont see the big difference here, more importantly, its a fact that people prefer persons who are more similar to them than others , so i wouldnt be too suprised if a caucasian chose a fellow caucasian over me, or worse calls me racist names. Even in naija, and here on nairaland, we have condescending names for different tribes.

That said, I havent experienced racism, and can not tell how it exactly feels, but tribalism is something i see and feel in Nigeria a lot. I really dont think i would feel too different meeting a racist.

This is just a mind set i would be travelling with.

The economy of Canada isn't "small". Canada has the 10th largest economy in the world, a pretty impressive feat considering its population is only 37 million. USA simply has a behemoth of an economy, which pretty much dwarfs that of any other country in the world. Carlifornia, by virtue of its land size and population (39 million), could aptly be considered country on its own. Then suddenly, it isn't too surprising anymore that it has a bigger economy than Canada.
whoa! thanks for this perspective.

Don’t be fooled , Canada has gun violence issues as well, may be not as bad as the US
sure I agree, that why I mentioned ''rate'' as I remeber some weeks ago an immigrant shot and killed an 18 year old woman and a younger girl in Toronto or so.
From another point of view, the gun violence in Nigeria dwarfs that of the US and Canada combined these day, if deaths by police brutality, kidnappings,and insurgency is anything to go by.
