And where do you get the statistic to know if the fightings are not happening any more, is it because you left school?

I hope it is yourself that you are asking this question when you are the one claiming that nothing like this would happen in Nigeria, not Lagos alone, but Nigeria.

Well, that's what you think, and not hearing about doesn't mean it does not happen, especially when Nigeria can't even count itself let alone report when a random hungry student dies out of the millions. Leave the discussion, if you want to believe that there aren't any stabbings or violent attacks in public schools in Nigerian any more, then O.K.
Because i am blind abi? do you know how many schools (secondary) is in my vicinity? do you know if i live around schools? like i said, do you know if i am even a teacher? enough of this silly questions from you, not worth it. you claimed it happens in Nigeria and that 15/16yrs stab and kill eachother in Nigeria, can you kindly give us proofs that it does happen?

yes, Lagos alone, lets stick to Lagos alone for now since the thread is about one city too (London), can you prove to us that student stab and kill eachother in my public schools? (15/16yrs old)

pure rubbish talk from you, you don't or haven't heard of it, yet you believe it happens just because it's Nigeria? get a life dude!!! just prove to us that it does happen, any link? news? statistics? anything as evidence? do you have any? undecided

'Only NFF board can end postponement'

Even as anger still rise high in the land over yet another round of postponement of the 2010/2011 Nigeria Premier League (NPL) early slated to start on Saturday, former Super Eagles’ team manager, Mike Umeh has said there is no end in sight for league shift until the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is properly in place.

Insisting that NFF holds the ace, Umeh told SuperSport.com in Lagos on Thursday that until the ills of the NFF are solved, NPL which is an arm of NFF will continue to crawl.

“Well it is unfortunate that things are like this, and once again the league suffers another postponement. It is no fault of anybody and that is why we said that the early this court issue is dispensed with the better for us because you cannot do anything officially accepted without the board of the Nigeria Football Federation. It cannot, so the early these matters are settled the better because for the league to start NFF board has to ratify the committee that will appoint referees, match commissioners, among other things.

“The NPL is an agency of NFF and so NFF cannot sit and watch them take decision without recourse to its parent body. Without the NFF board in place the league will not start because of the logistics involved, so the early the board is back in place the better for everybody. I do not think there is anybody who is enjoying what is happening now.”

The first vice president in the disputed August 26 NFF elections, who expressed optimism that this latest postponement would be the last given positive feelers from the camps of the warring factions to embrace peace, he said that the league will be back and better.

“I can tell you that in a matter of days, Nigerian football will rise again from its self imposed slumber, and not only the league every other thing concerned with football will pick up again,” he said.

It would be recalled NPL board rose from its meeting in Abuja on Wednesday to announce an indefinite postponement of October 23 date early put aside for the 2010/2011 league season to start linking the latest position to the letter from NFF directing the NPL to keep the league on hold for one or two weeks.

Jalla challenges league board

President of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) has challenged the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) to assert its independence and stop the trend of being dictated for by the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).

Miffed by the indefinite postponement of the 2010/2011 league on account of NFA insistence and apparently emboldened by the reprieve NANF got which led to Monday’s withdrawal of the case it instituted against the football house, Jalla told SuperSport.com in Lagos that the problem of the league is self inflicted and will persist until the NPL asserts their autonomy.

“The NFA should not wake up and say do not run the league, NPL is a constituted body, they should fight for their right, then they should be able to go ahead and run their affairs they ways it pleases them not whenever the NFA sneezes the league caught cold.

“It should not be so, they should be able to fight for their right and get their power back so that when they make decision the decision stands, the FA should not be rubber stamping their activities.

“The English FA cannot stop the league, the league is an entity of itself, we have struggled to get our power and right back they should do the same.

Jalla who insisted that the push for autonomy should be total; however, said that is the only way the league board will be held responsible for its deeds and misdeeds.

“Now that the league is not on whom do you hold responsible. Of course, not the league board because they are not in charge but have mortgaged their right and allowed themselves to be tied to the apron string of the FA.

“The situation is so bad that anybody can wake up on the wrong side of the bed and easily announces that the league has been postponed and it will be so while the players suffer. That is not the type of league we want as a nation, we want a league that will be fully responsive and responsible for all its acts.

“These are some of the reforms we are pushing for because the league board must be on their own to do their business, you do not have to stop their activities because the FA is supposed to be an external body to the league board and should be allowed to do their job unhindered.

“But when the FA wants to appoint match commissioners, referees and other committees how will the league function, the league board should say no to outside control and insist on it,” he said.

'No victor, no vanquished in football crisis'

Respected football instructor, Adegboye Onigbinde, believes that the crisis rocking the football industry in Nigeria will leave the game to suffer if solutions are not found over the matter.

He told SuperSport.com that though the National Association of Nigerian Footballers (Nanf) withdrew its court suit against the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Monday, it leaves all warring factions in the fight for the soul of football in the country on same pedestal.

Onigbinde believes that it is the game in the country that has been battered by the prolonged dispute.

"It is a case of no victor, no vanquished as it stands. It is Nigeria's football that has suffered for it because it has been battered, bruised and injured by what has happened in the past weeks," the former Super Eagles head coach said.

The Modakeke High Chief pointed to the Super Eagles' loss to Guinea in a 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier and the uncertainty over the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) commencement as examples from which the football industry has suffered as a result of the crisis.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) instructor also believes that the crisis has left the country's football image with a big question dangling on it.

“What has happened in the past is quite unfortunate considering the fact that it has affected our football. For instance, the league cannot start as a result of all this problem and then the senior national team few days ago went to Guinea and struggled there. So if we say what is happening does not have a rippling effect on the game, then we are only still not ready to make corrections or find solution to the whole quagmire on ground.

“Do you think that after all of this crisis that the image of the country’s football will be highly regarded considering what has befallen it in the past few days? Indeed, the image has been dented and it will take quite a while for things to get back to the peaceful nature and that is dependent on the different football groups in the country,” said Onigbinde, who is on the Fifa technical and development committee

Onigbinde is of the view that the withdrawal of the court suit is welcomed but feels the path of a peaceful resolution should be extended beyond the out-of-court settlement.

He wants all aggrieved groups in the whole saga to dialogue and present their positions on developing the game rather than tear apart the structure on ground.

Stella promise Sharks hell

Players of Stella Club d’Adjame, Abidjan of the Ivory Coast are still upbeat about their chances of overturning their first leg five-nil defeat against Sharks in their third round Wafu Cup decider on Wednesday.

The Ivorians were crushed five-nil in the first leg but they are still upbeat about their chances in the return leg on Wednesday. Holding midfielder, Couliby Fousenny said Sharks were lucky to win by such a wide margin in the first leg, noting that they Port Harcourt side seemed to score each time they attacked in the first leg.

“We did not play badly,” Fousenny told SuperSport.com.

“They scored every time they go forward and we defend bad but we play well in Abidjan for second leg,’ he said.

Founded in 1953, Stella is one of the better supported clubs in the Ivory Coast. They have won the domestic title on three occasions (1979, 1981 and 1984).They were also winners of the Ivoirian Cup on two occasions (1974 and 1975) as well as the CAF Cup in 1993.

The club is a fusion between Red Star, Etoile d'Adjamé and US Bella. They play their home games at the Stade Robert Champroux where twenty thousand screaming fans will create a cauldron of hate and noise for the visiting Nigerians on Wednesday but striker, Victor Ezeji is not perturbed.

“We are prepared for anything. We have too many experienced players to be bothered by such things. Don’t forget that I have played in some of the most hostile stadiums in Africa during my days with Enyimba and Club Africain of Tunisia, We will qualify for the next round after the game on Wednesday” he said.

The game will be played at 5pm on Wednesday.

Sharks leave for Ivory Coast

Sharks FC of Port Harcourt will leave the shores of Nigeria for the Ivory Coast ahead of their second leg, third round Wafu Cup clash against Stella Club d’Adjame of the Ivory Coast on Monday night.

The Sharks contingent will leave Nigeria via the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos aboard an Air Nigeria flight.

The contingent is made up of 29 people. Eighteen players and four coaches are part of the contingent. Five of the players were on duty for the Flying Eagles on Saturday against Mauritius in an AYC qualifier but Coach of Sharks; John Obuh says fatigue will not be an issue.

“The boys will be fired up so I don’t think tiredness will be an issue on Wednesday,” Obuh told SuperSport.com.

“We are focused on getting a good result in the game. Even though we won the first leg five-nil, I have told my boys that they cannot afford to underrate these Ivoirians. They played very well in the first leg in Port Harcourt and only lost by that margin because things became complicated when they adopted wrong tactics.

"They thought they could play safe in the first leg and finish us off in the second leg but my boys capitalised and scored five goals,” Obuh said.

Mbachu assures on colleagues’ absence

Super Falcons striker Stella Mbachu has assured Nigerians that the absence of some the team’s prized professional players from the African Women’s Championship (AWC) which starts on October 31 in South Africa will not affect the fortune of the team at the biennial football fiesta.

The dependable striker who was sorely missed two years back in Equatorial Guinea told SuperSport.com on Monday that adequate replacements have been effected; she added that the assignment before the team goes beyond persons.

“The three players, Faith Ikidi, Cynthia Uwak and Sarah Michael will be missed for good not for bad because the replacements are ready to deliver.

The assignment is not an individual thing; it is about winning the title and qualifying Nigeria for the World Cup. That is the only thing going on in our minds right now.

We are hundred percent ready mentally, physically and psychologically to go to South Africa and win the title.”

The five-time African champions play Mali on November 01, South Africa and new comer Tanzania on October 07, Mbachu explained to SuperSport.com that Nigeria have an edge over her opponents but would give each of them adequate attention.

“Football in Africa has grown, all our opponents are the same, we rate them the same and going to treat them that way.

No country is a minnow; the way we play South Africa will be the same way we will play against Mali and Tanzania.

“We have an edge as five-time African champions. We have experience and maturity. Nigeria is still a power house in African women football and our opponents are aware of this.

“Equatorial Guinea may not even qualify, so we may not have to worry about them but if we do meet we know them inside out especially the Nigerians in their midst. We are psychologically ready to take on other Africans in South Africa,” she said.

The top two finishers at the biennial football event will qualify to represent Africa at next year’s Fifa Women’s World Cup in Germany.

SportsAustin Eguavoen Drop Yobo, Enyeama by honeric01(mod): 10:28pm On Oct 25, 2010
Nigeria have left out captain Joseph Yobo and first-choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama from the squad to play Iran in next month's international friendly.

Head of the NFF's Technical Department Emmanuel Ikpeme explained that the move was not punitive, but meant to try out younger players.

“There is nothing to be read from the decision. The players are not dropped. We just want to try out some younger players so that we can build strength in depth for the team. It also does not mean that the players not invited are no longer members of the team.

“They are key members of our squad, but we need to give other players a chance to see if they can fit in when these big players for any reason, are unavailable.”

The team will again be managed by Austin Eguavoen, according to Ikpeme.

“He picked the team and explained to us the rationale behind leaving out certain players. He will be in charge for that game, although the first order of business for the board as soon as they come in will be to appoint a new coach.”

SportsObuh Unhappy Despite Qualification by honeric01(mod): 10:26pm On Oct 25, 2010
Flying Eagles coach John Obuh could have been mistaken for the boss of the losing side despite seeing his wards march to a 4-1 aggregate win over Mauritius on Saturday.

Goals from Omoh Ojabu and Terry Envoh, orchestrated by a Stanley Okoro masterclass saw the Nigerian cadets coast to a 2-0 win in Abuja, but Obuh was left fuming at the end.

"The boys did not allow us to implement our game plan," he said. "We lost a good opportunity to try out some other players, and I am not happy about that."

Obuh will now focus on preparing his team for the African Youth Championships in Libya, for which his wards have been installed as one of the favourites.

SportsFalcons Coach Talks Tough! by honeric01(mod): 10:23pm On Oct 25, 2010
Nigeria’s women’s national team coach Uche Eucharia has made it clear that the Super Falcons have only one objective at the African Women Championship; to recapture the crown they lost last tournament at Equatorial Guinea.

Uche’s team played out a 2-2 draw against an Under-17 boys team in Abuja on Sunday and Uche says her wards are ready.

“We are not just going there to participate; we are not only going there to qualify for the World Cup. We are going there to win the trophy. If these girls can run the way they did against a strong boys team like this, it how's they can do even better against girls.”

Uche has named an experienced squad sprinkled with players from the Under-17 and Under-20 teams which made a splash at their respective World Cup tournaments earlier this year, and says she is confident that her team will be the best in.

SportsNational Association Of Nigerian Footballers Withdraws Case Against Nff by honeric01(mod): 10:22pm On Oct 25, 2010
Harrison Jalla's National Association of Nigerian Footballers has formally withdrawn their case at a Lagos court challenging the legality of the NFF elections held last August.

The withdrawal of the court action marks the last but one step needed to avoid confirmation of a FIFA sanction on Nigeria, which was provisionally lifted earlier this month.

The decision opens the door for the elected NFF board to resume duties, according to Chris Greene, a member of that board. “The board can now start work because the people who took the matter to work have withdrawn the case.

“And since the matter has been stuck out, in the eyes of the law, it is as if that matter never existed. All interlocutory orders issued in respect of that matter have been declared a nullity. So the board is at liberty to resume and start to function.”

The decision will also have a positive fallout for the Nigeria Premier League, which had to suspend its scheduled kick-off last weekend because there was no NFF Referees Committee to appoint match referees for the games.

Amun defends Adamu

Posted: 2010-10-25 06:48

Nigeria's 1993 Under-17 World Cup-winning coach Fanny Amun says it is too early to condemn Amos Adamu despite video evidence allegedly linking him to a cash for votes scandal at Fifa.

Adamu has been provisionally suspended by the world football governing body pending the conclusion of investigations, and Amun says there should be no hurry to condemn him.

”I don‘t believe anyone of us has the right to condemn him before the findings of Fifa are revealed,” Amun said.

”The people at Fifa are not fools. If there was a strong evidence to prove Adamu is guilty, they would have removed him from the committee.

”Irrespective of what some people may think of Adamu in Nigeria, we should not criticise him when there is no reason to do so.”

The topic is about London alone, just London alone, so why are you trying to group the whole of Nigeria instead of comparing a state like Lagos with London?

Which death? the fighting that went on in school during that time never resulted to deaths, at least i didn't hear of any deaths, it's always blow and all that, you hardly see or hear of any death. This isn't just about a gun, it's about weapons, you never said anything about just guns. I also know what happens in public schools. And maybe you went to a really good public school, or your just the one trying to change up the stories. Many public schools are dangerous, and things like bottle fights and knife fights aren't out of place in those schools.
The more you type, the more you make less point, KNIFES AND GUNS, yes i said that, IT'S VERY RARE TO SEE 15/16YRS OLD KIDS IN NIGERIA GOING ABOUT WITH THESE WEAPONS, in the past, fighting was a common thing between one school and the other, but this has died down.

In your book, can you define a really good public school? let me see your definition first before telling you the names of the schools i attended, it seems it's been long you saw any of our schools, it's VERY rare now to see schools fighting schools (secondary), especially in Lagos, very rare because most boys prefer to be known as Mr fine boy than an opc wannabe, in my secondary school days, we had set of boys always taking the lead when we had scores to settle with other schools, these boys ended up getting expelled when 3 got arrested for juju possession. (these boys aren't even 15/16), they were older than 19 then.

What am i trying to say here? i am simply saying it's safer to raise a 5/18 years old in Nigeria because parents and the society still have the power to correct/discipline them physically and otherwise.
