what is all the fuss about renewable energy? Don't be foolish - even the so called 'developed countries' can't afford to use widespread renewable sources of energy YET,

Renewable energy does have a role to play, but for now, they can only serve as niche applications in areas far removed from the grid. What is required now is the settling of the pipeline vandalisation issue to allow gas to flow, and rapid completion of the NIPP project/ take off of new IPP's, anything else is a pipe dream.
the thing with renewable energy in this country especially is that they need alot of it (esp for heating needs) and they can't produce enough

Nigeria on the other hand has enough land to grow bio diesel, flat lands with harnessable wind energy in the north, a length of coast to harness tidal energy,,, plus we don't need as much electricity and "developed nations" as we require no heating,,, and finally, we hav time on our side whereas they are desperate

that's why i tell Nigerians to be smart, don't wait there until the oil dries up. Get your family out to dry land in Europe or north america.
there is no dry land
Nigeria is actually in a better position than most countries,,, our reserves are estimated to last another 50 or so yrs with current demands (keep in mind that demand is increasing)

some European countries hav reserves to last as low as 10yrs on current demands
why do u think there is the sudden interest in reusable energyhuh

I took a solar energy class last year and we discussed peak oil. However I watched Nightline or Dateline (one of the lines) and they said that the whole peak oil theory is a scare tactic.
I'm doing a PG degree in sustainability and i hav attended a number of talks on peak oil,,,
obviously there is no proof but the signs are there
the propergander is largely fronted by the American govt because they are the largest importers,,, they are trying to avert a panic,

think about it,,, Saudi Arabia has reduced its exports a number of time in the past months, its excuse being regulation of oil prices,,, yet oil prices keep going up,
George Bush even had to personally visit him to convince him to open up the taps,,,

oil from tar sands (which is substandard) is increasingly popular,,, that is because all "the easy oil" deposits hav been found

if u study the production life of an oil rig u'd see that production reduces as time goes by and how many new oil wells hav been found in recent times

the rationale behind behinds Dubai rapid tourist development is partly because they are getting prepared for when d oil runs out,,,,

i could go on but it would be more interesting if u read some of the reports widely available]

Nigeria's oil reserves are still quit substantial, but the western world is approaching panic,,, why do we hav to wait till we get to that pointhuh

Marriage, again is a choice and there are many who are happy in it.
Exactly,,, its a choice so the issue of how natural or unnatural it is shdnt even arise

RomanceRe: The Dilemma Of The Single Woman by HRhotness(f): 1:05am On May 05, 2008
sheniqua:
There's no little girl anywhere that dreams of being single all her life.
We all dreamt of beautiful weddings and played "mommy" with our friends.
But as people pass through life they make choices and for some the choices are forced on them when age is no longer on their side.
Our society respects marriage and that should be commended.
It's the natural thing to do
All humans long to be with someone
I beg to differ,,,
the world is evolving and less children grow up with fairytale beliefs with more facing the harsh reality
the only reason why little girls dream of wedding and the like are because of stories with Happy endings,,,, life doesn't always hav a happy ending and if u grew up in a home where ur dad constantly beat ur mum to a pulp u wont dream of being a blushing bride.
I know some one who knew form day one she didn't want children or a man,,, she just turned 60 and is on a world cruise living her dream.

We are all products of a union (most of us)
It is unnatural to want to remain alone.
Even those who tell you they choose to be single and unmarried  don't stay detached ,they have men they're tangoing with on the side
Marriage just makes it legitimate.
So people usually don't necessarily frown at the choice of remaining unmarried but the choice of being unmarried and doing married folk things
what is natural to u may be unnatural to someone else and vice versa,,, u are simply generalising now
sexual satisfaction isnt exclusive to the married,,,
the idea of remaining single is rejecting the idea of being tied down to one person
remaining in an unmarried relationship gives u the freedon to walk out whenever,
it means u dont expect anything of each other and u dont hav to do anything u dont want to,,,, remaining single means u can enjoy companionship without the shackles that come with marriage

Yeah, but they still give Her a very hard time

Ok heres an example,

A Single woman gets no day off, shes busy working her ass off evryday

While a Married woman gets maternal leave like six times a year after her normal maternity leave

The workload is den casted on the single woman and they get the same pay
well that all depends on the kind of job and what u want for urself,,, u make a decision on the way you want to be treated and accept nothin less

if you feel ur someone else is getting preferential treatment then speak up for ur right,,, period!

there is an equality act to protect people in the work place and anything less is unacceptable,,,

If someone can tell me what a married person has that a single person can't have

A man? A single girl has a lot of options and variety, she doesn't hv to go to bed alone any night

Children? Please, you don't hv to be married to have them

Security? when your career is on a high and you hav all the money you want

What else?

There has to be a solid argument for Why a Woman should be married
There isn't!
not anymore and many women are beginning to realise this,,,, sadly ignorance is still a terrible disease and thats where all the problems are from, plus some men are particularly against the idea,,,
put urself in a mans shoes, u're supposed to be the provider and protector of a woman and she decides she has no need for u,,,, quite frankly i dont blame them for being so against d idea

the truth of the matter is there are no valid reasons anymore for a woman who has no wish to get married to do so
they are being respected as equals in the work place and as leaders in the political arena,,,,
anyone who cant respect her decision to remain single is scum and deserves no recognition

Depression is not medically a disease. It has been so labelled by a generation overly eager to blame everything but themselves for their own inability to handle adverse situations.

Someone said that depression is clinically a chemical imbalance of the brain . . . i beg to disagree, alchohol and other chemical neuro-depressants do not produce the sad, melancholic behaviour that is symptomatic of those who hide under the umbrella of depression.

Infact anti-depressant drugs ARE a clinically chemical imbalance of the brain as you are trying to artificially induce a neurological response.
Its sad you think so
Hope it never happens to you

HR,
you have a good mum, i can't tlk about my depression to anyone,  well, its a battle i will win at some point in my life,  i don't know when but i will overcome. i am happy there are people out there just as african as i am that understand,  its real, well

Mizz,

Thanks for your kind words,i never went for counselling but am thinking of going at some point because my anxiety attacks are too much now, its hard for me to open up but at some point i have to. i don't want my future Kids to have a depressed mum i just want to heal. thnks again for postin,
I know its hard but you have to talk, cry and scream,,, anything it takes but you have to let it out. depression feeds off suppressed emotions and loneliness,,, i never used to talk about my depression, i started out by talking about mindless things,,, and then one day it all came out, i cried and screamed and my mum held me, that was the beginning of my recovery. It doesnt matter what you're talking about, as long as u are talking, its the human connection that is important. i only go for counselling to assess where I'm at, my counselor encourages me to keep the connections,,,  i think thats why my nephew was a huge part of my healing because babies express emotion in the purest form, i guess i learnt from him. I know its difficult esp for africans because ther is so much ignorance but please don't give up, keep reaching out to people,, it helps i promise.

I'm just saying, all possibilties shd be considered or she'll ruin the relationship she could hav with her child
RomanceRe: He Wants His Child After Telling Me To Go For An Abortion by HRhotness(f): 2:40pm On May 02, 2008
@ natalya

thats a very touching story and i feel your pain girl

i beg you tho to not base your decision on advise gotten from an internet forum

i know u must be angry but please don't forget there is a child involved
you might think it best to keep her from her dad now but how will she feel about it
I'm not saying you should jump back into bed with him (God forbid!)  but allowing a relationship between him and is child may not be so bad,,,
Its entirely your decision and one you should not take based on emotions alone. You have to be fully prepared to handle the consequences of ur decision plus u hav to be the bigger person and think of your childs welfare, its ur duty as a good mum

Yes he may only want her because h's desperate to show he isn't impotent but then again karma might have caught up with him and he really is sorry. There is no way to find out unless u talk to him and give him a Chance to explain. yes he threatened to call the police (like they can do anything?) but Nigerian men are famous for their lack of finesse, it may boil down to desperation. speak to him and find out if its safe to hav him in your child's life.,,, try to sort this out in a civilised manner rather than the screaming matches and threats, try to remember its no longer just the both of you, there is a third person involved and she should always be taken into consideration. if you are not convinced, make him proove he is genuine, allow him short visits until your mind is put at  rest,,, whatever you have to do but don't make rash decisions!

Parents tend to force their anger on their children but u have to realise she either wont see it d way u did and hate you for keeping her from her dad, or she'd adopt your anger as her own and take it out on all men,,, you really can't say and these are things you should consider. anyways I've said too much already. I wish you all the best

the fact that she likes romance novels doesn't necessarily mean it adds no value to her life
those books are for entertainment purposes and entertaining yourself some might argue, does add value to your life.
personally i don't read romances but i can't stand motivational books either, why the hell would  I need someone else to tell me how to live my lifehuh
