Doyinlola: congratulations on your arrival, but i'd like to ask a question. If I'm travelling to sa with an evisa do I need to pay a certain amount of money to the immigration at the sa port of entry before I'm cleared( the agent who helped me with the visa processing told me that I'm to pay about 6000 rands for clearing before I can be allowed into sa)? Thank you. Not true. I didn't pay any money. I just got back from SA. |

I am thinking of going back and returning with a multiple entry visa Better understood. |

mobilemykel: Guys I arrived Jozi in the early hours of yesterday. I used air Cote D'Ivoire and I had a smooth journey. (even though we had stop over in Abidjan and Kinshasa) the immigration officers where really nice. I was only asked for my passport and EVisa and was stamped in. They didn't even request for yellow card or vaccine card. I'm staying with a friend of mine in Blairgowrie while I search for a studio apartment I can stay for long term. Who knows any nice places to live and affordable? Stay safe in SA ok. I am sure you are aware of agitations on going between the eff and anc. That been said. Air cotedvoire is really nice. You came on a short term single entry visa for tourism? Why are you talking about long term? |

ekenweohia: Hi Chief, I booked the flight ticket and used the details to complete the visa application but the company(travelbeta) called me to say that they would cancel my booking if I don't payment in 24hours. Would this impact my application?
Also, please how did you go about the yellow fever card? Where are you resided. Yellow card is easy to get. Go to the Port health at Toll Gate to apply. The toll gate at the International Airport. For Travel beta Not an issue. What you need is a dummy of your itinerary and you have that already. |

ekenweohia: Thanks Chief. That was helpful.
Please for the Purpose and duration of visit document upload, what is required? Write a personal introduction letter to the embassy detailing purpose for your trip. Is it for tourism, or conference. Draft a letter, then tell them all the places you like to visit(itinerary). When you are done, attach and upload. |

I have no serious home times(I'm unmarried and young), hoping this won't be a problem. I already decide to spend a bit longer time in Netherlands, as getting visa appointments at the German embassy is almost impossible. And I'll avoid stating that I want to spend that much time in Germany. Above all. You see that home ties is very important. Please do your home work well. I wish you the best. |

On the other hand, this person didn't say his passport is valid for less than six months. He said it is EXPIRED.

Horlaidey007: You are not good to go oo. Your passport should have at least 6month validity before you travel. Do your renewal ASAP Hi Horlaidey007, Granted some countries require that passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of trip and airlines will not allow you to board. For Uk they can accept passport once it is valid for when you will be travelling to and entering the UK. giselle237: pls stop giving wrong advice!! I have travelled with passport with only 2 weeks to go! Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Tutu82(f): 8:53pm On Mar 14 hunee: it happens in rare cases, not until recent moves by the FG to assauge travelers concern as regards. Before now , it was quite difficult. Thinking about it Hunee, there might be some substance to what you are saying but these rare cases are not solely based on the passport nearing expiration other variables come into play. Let’s say for example, A Tourist not having a return ticket to tender when being asked randomly by border control at Heathrow and it is then noticed he has say two months left it’s a red flag as to his intention of returning. As to the FG ever stepping in remember when BA hiked their prices, cut the menu and had increased Racist incidents nobody assuaged, they just made whisper like noises and that was it nothing was done. No protection for usmaestro03: The funny thing is that I've never heard of this 6 months to expiration thingy for traveling (i.e crossing the border) I know it's in place for Visa issuance and that's logical. But for travelling and crossing the border? Never heard that before. You can cross the border with 1 day to expiration sef. So far as when you are crossing the document is still valid and your visa still valid. They don't care about the validity of your passport when you are exiting. Now an airline can stop you if on the date you are departing naija your passport is valid but by the time you arrive at the border it would have expired. I repeat again. For many carrying expired and about to passports around, do what you have to and get a renewal. I am not a border control officer, or a visa officer but from my travel experience , you are safer when you travel around or apply for visas with valid documents. (Cases are not same) Policies do change, and no one will call you for that meeting prior announcement. Renew your documents and be safe. No further responses on this from me. Thank you all for your contributions. |

Submission at VFS - Monday, March 6th. Notification of passport return - Monday, March 13th Passport delivery by UPS - Tuesday, March 14th.
Intended Travel dates: March 18th to 26th. Destination: Paris.
Documents Submitted at VFS:
1. Application form. 2. Nigerian Passport. 3. Return ticket purchased via Wakanow. ( Realized from this thread that I would've just made reservation so money won't go to waste, just in case...) 4. Ticket reservation of tour activities. Booked on Viator, but not paid for. 5. Letter of introduction from my Employer , confirming employment and dates of travel and Employment letter. 6. 6 months bank statement each for my Salary account (Naira) and a Dollar account. This was reduced to 3 months for each account at VFS. 7. Allianze travel insurance; purchased via Wakanow .(Already purchased it before I saw this thread.) 8. Hotel accommodation booked via Hotels. com; but not yet paid for. 9. Copies of Work ID, Pension and Co-operative participation - I used them as a proof of strong tie to Nigeria. 10. Cover letter introducing myself, intended activities in Paris and summarizing the documents submitted. (Many many thanks to the contributors on this thread!) 11. Copy of US Visa.
PS: I got my US Visa just last month but I'm yet to travel with it. I was told at VFS that I'm a 'Frequent Traveler' so it was written on my documents pouch, even though I'm a first time traveler. So if you have any of the Visas listed on the website, just select 'frequent traveler' for your VFS appointment.
Thank you, everyone! |

You are absolutely correct. The stereotype remains. Policies do change, travelers ensure you validate your documents. Key Tutu82: About improvements let’s agree to disagree as the way am treated when am with my green passport is very different from when am with the blue one.The most important take away in this discourse is what you said at the end policies do change overnight. |

damselhoney: I am not sure they do walk-IN, they seem to follow that their appointment list judiciously. I have seen cases where people are given option of reschedule because they didn't meet up with their time. Try and have good internet when making the next payment. You can try sterling bank card. There is premium or they call it VIP service at VFS. You dont need appointment for that; however the service is paid for and you are usually attended to in a short time. He can send a mail to vfs france section to get more details, our feedbacks are limited. Contact the appropriate unit. |

I totally agree. However in recent times, there have been improvements. I remember there was time when you could not travel, with a day expired passport. It was a problem passing immigration. I just feel that over the years , the aviation industry has evolved, irrespective of the issues on the other end, travelers are usually advised to ensure validity of their documents, because policies do change overnight , so you dont get caught in the web.
