Mamatukwas: 35% saturation made me laugh but tbh though, there’s something about the UK system that makes our people less accommodating. It’s not this bad in the US. Family is a bit more willing to host visitors there.
One of my baby trips, we booked hotel-apartment and my aunt came there to physically Jack us out She said not while she’s in the same town. The only time I succeeded in staying alone was when I went to a state with no close relatives and even then, they organized people they knew to cook and check up on us.
I always say America is a bit more like Nigeria. Uk brings out the ‘managing’ side in most people unfortunately. Everyone should understand sha and be prepared if moving abroad. No one owes you anything tbh. Probably has to do with the size of houses in the US compared to the UK UK houses dey be like them Dey manage spaces Still, best is to just make your plans with no one in mind Saves yourself from unnecessary stories that touch |

Hello my Ogas
Can I book Qatar airways ticket directly on their website using naija card? Or I have to book, then gp to their office to pay?
Also is it true that their rates are lower at their office than if you book online?
Sent emails to their customer service and called to no avail. They responded on twitter with a generic link
Kindly advise
Thanks ! |

adonainana: This is the easiest of the solution to the bigger picture problem now
So trust Nigerian doesn’t have the type of IQ sufficient leaders to implement such
A country has the raw materials to make petrol because it doesn’t have the factory to process the crude to petrol
It therefore exports the crude materials to other countries that can process the crude for it, it now imports it back twice the price it exports it out
So as not to make it expensive to the final consumers ( it pays the companies that imports the final material back into Nigeria a commission ) it’s calls is fuel subsidy
Now it wants to remove the fuel subsidy as it’s too costly
But what about the main problem in the first pragraph, you still don’t have functioning refineries to process the petrol you are removing the subsidy for
If the refineries are too expensive to fix
Why don’t you go to Russia or North Korea or even the UK and invite the government of these countries to take over the refineries and run it like it’s there’s
No need being scared about anything
In life if you neee help you ask for it
I trust a country like China they will run those refineries within 5 days and Nigeria will never suffer or lack from refining crude oil into petrol again I wonder how a country as large as nigeria cant fix its refineries I think the FG is betting on Dangote's refineries for next year |

Should have been removed since but ...
It would have been politically easier to remove fuel subsidies if the government had provided jobs, entrepreneurial opportunities, and other forms of economic empowerment but no government has been able to do this
Maybe the removal will finally stop government from the center and encourage every state to manage its resource
Instead of dashing out 5K, why not make business easy for Nigerians eh? The effects of subsidy removal will make people sink further into poverty |

ezixt: Is it possible if one anticipates that such could be asked to send in in while applying in order to avoid the delay of them sending you a non-straightforward mail.
For instance, the reference letter I used for school application is for my work from 2010 to 2015.
So from your experience, I can reason that I might be asked to show evidence of my work history from 2015- 2021.
So that's why I'm asking if it's possible to send in a letter of reference covering that period during my visa application instead of waiting for a non-straightforward mail from them, which might cause delay. Hmm I noticed the two of them are going with family though - same might not apply to you |

Znation: Hello nairalanders
Some people may say i'm lucky and would want to be in my position, but i really need ur advice..
My girlfriend mum have a very big provission shop, and u all know how it feels (that joy) to have such person daughther as your girlfriend.
She loves me so much that she can give me money, food stuff, all for free from their shop. infact, i don't even spend a kobo to buy anything again. All i do is just go to their shop, & collect whatever i want.
If i meet her mum when i want to buy something, i'll pay her. But if i give her N500, she will give me change of even N2000 and ask me to go. And i don't argue with her so that her mum won't notice. I will just collect the money and go.
If i call her on phone that i'm hungry, only God can tell the things she will bring for me withing just 20 minutes of calling her..
She's spending so much on me, and i think i need advice.
I thought i was a lucky man b4, but the thing is too much 4 me.
nairalanders, What should i do? Ment dey worry you Do right by her too fInish |

OSCARTM: Every knowledge gathered in IT is very relevant in its compliance, security and audit; for example, I see some people look down on IT Support role, the knowledge gathered in that role can be useful when reviewing Network Access Control (NAC). Your knowledge in IAM stated above will be useful in the information security departments of some companies.
LinkedIn is a good place to search these consulting firms, try to set-up job notifications on LinkedIn, you'll see their openings whenever they are available. If you are in the U.K, try Indeed, Total jobs, CWjobs, CV Library and so on, recruiters will reach out to you. Thanks I appreciate |

wonlasewonimi: When I got CISSP, I was able to waive one year off because I had Security+ earlier. Learning CISSP will take it's toll on you but doable!. To your question, if you pass the exam before you have the requisite experience, you are allowed to use Associate of ISC2 but not the full CISSP designation. I check CISSP requirements I do have one of the Microsoft Security certs listed there so I guess I can get 1 year off too Thanks for your input |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by hustla(m): 7:52am On Nov 12, 2021 |
dupyshoo: There is no guarantee that it will get you an information security job. I have sat on interview panels which candidates with CISSP did not pass and people without made it. You need to answer the questions in interview before passing.
In fact, because CISSP is so wide, you might not remember most of the things in the book after passing. Have you attended any interview and they are asking for bell la biba or la padula? The fact that you have CISSP will raise the expectation of the interviewers that if you don't meet up, you will likely not be taken.
A lot of people do not have CISSP and they are earning a lot. So I believe that CISSP is overkill for someone looking for entry level information security role. This is true So, if I have the CISSP , am I not allowed to use it at all until the required experience levels are met? Or I can still include it in my CV |

OSCARTM: Ease of getting jobs - There is shortage of these skills, for example, set up a job notification on LinkedIn with some of the certifications I mentioned earlier, try locations like (Nigeria, Canada, UK and US), you will be shocked as to the amount of job notifications which you will receive daily. The shortage is hitting Nigeria and UK more, due to Canada migration and Brexit respectively. Search and network with those who have these skills on LinkedIn, their frequent posts & conversations will enlighten you more.
Positioning for Big4 jobs - It requires a lot of hard work and constant research, you need to realize that the career switch will not be a "walk in the park". Considering that you do not have prior experience, you need to start with earning the certifications which gives you a background knowledge about the career you intend to switch to. For example, I will recommend CISSP or CISM exams for entry into information security.
After passing one or more certifications, include them in your CV and start applying for related roles. You might need to modify your CV to include the responsibilities set in the job advert (but ensure you have a fair knowledge of them). Big4 will give you the best of training/experience especially if you can get in at an associate level, however, there are loads of smaller consulting firms/companies that will give you the chance to "kick start" your career switch with little or no experience.
Getting certified in ISO courses - ISO certifications are usually sponsored by corporate organizations due to the cost(training facilitators will require a certain quorum in class), and it's mostly bundled with the company's certification projects (usually a 3yr cycle). In Nigeria, you can check PECB accredited centres and other training institutes like Rhythex Consulting at Ilupeju, A.J Silicon at Alausa Ikeja. In my opinion, getting ISO certification is not a good entry point, I believe the scope is limited.
In the end, your determination to succeed matters a lot. A friend of mine who has a social science degree is doing well in an IT security risk/compliance role in a Global Bank in the U.K.
Cheers. Thanks a lot! May God make your days long! I do have some experience in Cloud Computing & reasonable Identity and Access Management knowledge - hopefully that would count For the smaller consulting firms, is there any where i can look them up or a Google search would suffice for a list? Bookmarked for future reference |
