Thanks OP.

This is good content, OP! Well done.
Can you also do a post on the accredited and recognised Merchant Navy/Maritime Schools in Nigeria?
I used to see one close to Oko Afo, Badagry.
EducationRe: Degree For Sale: Sting Operation Exposes LASU Certificate Racketeering by iamclime(m): 11:53am On Nov 07, 2023
Hmmnn...I know at least 2 persons mentioned here. The rot in the system is nauseating! And these fellows even glamorise their evil deeds and boast about them in the school. I leave with a quote from scripture: "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil." (Ecclesiastes 8:11)
TravelRe: Should I Stay and Complete My PhD Or Accept a 30 NZD Per Hour Job In New Zealand by iamclime(m): 3:22pm On Oct 17, 2023
How close are you to your Viva voce? Have you done your prefield?
Speak with your supervisor and Dean. It may be possible to finish the PhD even while you have relocated to the land of the Maori.
All the best!

How do you know if your passport is ready without having to visit the passport office physically
You can track your application on the NIS website. Check for a tab on the site called 'Track Application ' , input your details and you will see if your document is ready or not.

FamilyRe: My Husband Wants Us To Relocate To The Village by iamclime(m): 8:01pm On Jun 20, 2023
thesicilian:
Technically we as strangers should have no say in how your home is run, that should be between you and your husband. You alone should decide whether you want to maintain your family unit and move with him to the village, or risk the possibility of a separation between husband and wife, father and children by refusing to go with him. Either one you choose will have its own advantages and consequences so think about it carefully.
A third option might be to help him look for any job that can persuade him to stay in the city
This is the most practical input, as far as my humble self is concerned. I support you with one bottle of mortuarized Origin!

Now, to the topic: Relocating to the village is not the end of life. We relocated to the village in the mid eighties. Even at my young age, I could remember vividly. I missed my school in Mushin. But life was better in the village, fresh foods, the opportunity to really be kids and live, learning my native language and its several dialects, bonding with family and friends. Oh, the life we had! Dad and Mom continued plying their trades in the village while we the kids picked up so many skills I can't even recount here. It wasn't all rosy, but with contentment and dedication, we survived.

On the academic side, we didn't lose out either. By the time we relocated back to Lagos in the early nineties, we've had a strong foundation in both rural and urban life. The skills we learned are still useful to us till this day. And all of us did well in school.

So, relocating to the village when situations demand for it is not the end of life

The main question is: What's the plan? What will you be doing in the village? Are you willing to adjust to a lower standard of living for a little while? It starts with the mindset. How do you view rural life and rural dwellers? As inferior, or fellow humans with different circumstances and paths in life? It starts with the mindset.
May God guide you right to make the right choice.

Love and light.
EducationRe: Students’ Loan: FG To Introduce Tuition Fees In Universities by iamclime(m): 4:06pm On Jun 14, 2023

I don't understand.

I paid library fees
I paid for my hostel
I paid for my feeding
I paid for textbooks

So, how's tuition free in government schools?
None of the things you mentioned form part of tuition.
CareerRe: How Much Are You Making As A Copywriter? by iamclime(m): 7:59pm On Jun 12, 2023
IncredibleWrite:
Income is not stable as a freelancer. Some months are dried, some other months average, and then good. I work as a freelancer on Upwork.

Like this month I've already made about 310k when converted to naira. I hope to make around 500k by month's end God willing. Some months I barely make 80-100k. Some 150-200k. On some bad months, I may get just one gig and make say 40-50k.

It takes serious hard work and perseverance to sustain yourself on the platform. I've been into it since 2020 and I'm top-rated on there.
You are very correct on this one. Though I don't work on Upwork, I agree with your submission.
CareerRe: How Much Are You Making As A Copywriter? by iamclime(m): 7:57pm On Jun 12, 2023
I make good enough money to care of my needs
But I've been in the game for close to 2 decades, on and off. And you have to be consistent and really good at what you do. But there may be long periods of drought, when gigs may not come in at all.

Pls How long does the ride take from badagry to cms direct?
About an hour, give or take.
RomanceRe: Accessing The Island Via Badagry, Is It Cheaper And/or Faster? by iamclime(m): 3:40pm On Jun 08, 2023
Faster, yes. Cheaper, no.

From the Badagry jetty at the Marina, near Badagry market, to CMS was about 3k last week. If you get to the jetty late, you have to board Liverpool (Apapa) first and then get CMS boat from there.
Nairaland GeneralRe: How Has Nairaland Helped You? by iamclime(m): 4:13pm On May 11, 2023
pansophist:
I'll say that Nairaland made me a better writer. To write here almost every week, for the last nine years, is a sure way to sharpen your usage of words, usage of analogies, and nuances.

Also reading almost every week helps in listening and writing better, since everyone has their own idiolects, reading from everyone makes you know how to write complex and laser-sharp stuff.
You get it, you really get it.

CareerRe: Can Chatgpt Replace Doing Traditional Research Work by iamclime(m):
As a researcher and writer, I am interested in ChatGPT for curiosity sake, for now. I do not recommend it for academic or professional research.
And no, ChatGPT will not replace human writers and researchers. AI technologies were invented and trained by humans, and they will always need humans to use them!

For now, it's better to wait and see how things pan out in the academic/business research spheres. As for folks in the blogosphere and other content creators, Bon apetit!
TravelRe: The Underrated Cotonou (benin Republic) by iamclime(m): 5:07am On Mar 06, 2023
This thread reminds of my trip to Benin (Cotonou, Abomey and Calavi) for vacation in 2013 and my work-related trip (applying and interviewing for lecturing positions) in 2017/18.
Overall, République du Bénin is an organised country. A place to consider for remote/online workers due to their good electricity supply.
One thing I noticed about the Benin people is that they tend to be more contented with life's basic amenities and less materialistic. This world-view is glaringly lacking in the Nigerian society.

I should be planning another trip to Benin this year, to get more firsthand information on the current state of things.

BluePrincee:
The shareholding structure of the Port is as follows: The Lekki Port Investment Holding Inc. (international consortium) owns 75% (China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd 52.50%, Tolaram 22.5%), the Lagos State Government owns 20% while Nigerian Ports Authority owns 5%.

What kind of math is this? All the percentage put together is supposed to be 100% who wrote this na? This is the more you look the less you see😭😏
Is 75+20+5 not equal to 100 again?
Please read again. The math is correct.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: How Did You Cope With The Pain Of Job Rejection? by iamclime(m): 6:46am On Nov 13, 2022
Paulheyman:
* I went for an interview in a private university, the VC, registrar and body of interviewers comprising of the HOD, dean and staff of my supposed department all congratulated me. They ask that I bring my original MSc certificate, I got the certificate with the little money I had then, while on my way to submit the certificate, I nearly had a head-on collision with a fuel tanker/truck. On getting to the university, the registrar once more congratulated. Guess what? it has been 5yrs after, I've not heard from any of them. The funny thing is that the host community of the said university was attacked by herdsmen some years back.

** After my experience with the university, I swore not to apply for any university job again till after my PhD. So, after my PhD, I applied for a job in another university. Not long ago, I was invited for something entirely different. Funny enough, in terms of qualifications, publications, youthfulness and academic standing I know I am far better than their choice.

*** Before I left PhD, my supervisor told me that "PhD distinguishes and that those that work with God should put in extra effort". So, I started looking out for a postdoc abroad, God willing I am currently on one now and will possibly be leaving the country next year

My point: Nigeria is not built to favor the best. Being proud of your achievements is regarded as arrogance. So, do not be disturbed, mourn your lose and move on with your life. Most times delay isn't denial, you're being prepared for something better

My Advise: Start up your own business, grow it into whatsoever you want it to be and if you've an Android phone follow some government based loans and grants in your state/country. Don't spend all your life savings looking for a job. I believe you're still a youth and that's your greatest advantage
Please send me a DM. I think we have some things in common on this journey to find academic jobs. Let's connect on LinkedIn.

So painful..I cried my eyes out yesterday, have been going for this particular interview since last month, I have been called to that place like 7times in wuse2, from one stage to another. The secretary called me on Wednesday that madam will like to see me,she assured me to get prepared for medicals and all...she told me to be there by 10:00am, I came and was told to wait till 3:00pm before I could see her, of course I patiently waited for her..las las I no get the job didn't know when tears effortlessly flow down from my eyes...I stood there and taught about soooo many things ranging from the transportation I have spent on this particular interview alone ... I kept singing not to break down on the road.
What skills and qualifications do you have? What kind of jobs are you looking for?
