You think Tinubu is the one that removed it? So he removed it before he was sworn in? You are really smart.
Do you understand the weight of a president's pronouncements especially in his first speech on inauguration day?

But the truth is we can no longer afford it. It is contributing to our huge foreign debt. As a people, we need to be ready to sacrifice and be very uncomfortable for some time for a better future. There is no wand that will move us magically to the promise land without some strife.
We have sacrificed enough for APC in the last 8 years with sweat and blood. If this is the way Tinubu was advised to start day one in office then he is ill advised.

Are you aware, may be not that one of IBB policy is to remove fuel subsidy and liberalisation of trade. Olu Falae, Pat Utomi at least I can remember these two person vividly and other prominent Nigerians argued agresively against it. Been known as a Madonna got into the mix probably.
I'm well aware of the need to remove subsidy and most reasonable Nigerians agree that it should be removed. What I don't agree with is unplanned and abrupt removal without any measure to reduce the negative effect it will have on the economy and livelihood of citizens.

Dangote refinery has been commissioned. What is the haste about? Why can't we allow the refinery to start producing what we need for local consumption before we remove subsidy?

For the records no one will be spared from the impending hardship that this will cause unless you belong to the political class. Buhari tried it few months ago but he had to reversed himself. These are not decisions you take hastily without planning

Government has nothing to do with businesses. Business should be given to competent individuals to run, they will then establish friendly tax laws, friendly policies to create enabling business environment.
Governments have no business in doing business.
I'm not talking about doing business. I'm talking about hasty removal of subsidy on day one in office. It is not a wise step

Keep Quiet! Have you not been suffering since since 1960?
Fuel subsidy has continually become a cash cow for few, many be you re one of them.
No need to be emotional about this. Common sense will tell you that we should have a working refinery first before subsidy is removed totally.

Once the queues return it will affect the price of food, transport and every other thing. That's not a good way to start day 1 in office and nobody will be spared the hassles

She is in Naija men good book. They don't hate women having sex, they just hate the idea that women put a price on their body.

A woman dating a broke student for the four years of university and giving him daily sex for four years while cohabiting with him and doing abortion for him is "good" in their eyes,as long he is broke

But if it's a rich man she is dating and giving sex, they will frown.

I quite understand your point but then I like not doing things cause it's done this way. Since independence or rather the return of democracy in the fourth republic, we've been practicing the said FEDERAL CHARACTER all to no avail. At least PDP practiced it but no positive result.

Let's call a spade a spade, my dear political appointment made in the name of the said FEDERAL CHARACTER is only for the enjoyment of the a person alongside his household, family and friends. Not for the benefit of the the said sector or people...

I'm a proponent of us trying new thing.
There was positive result when PDP practiced federal character but you may have taken it for granted.

In US today they have what Is called diversity and inclusion which means that there is a deliberate effort to ensure that people from all races, culture and orientation are represented from private firms to government. That is a country where everyone speaks thesame English.

Now imagin a nation with over 300 languages and very religious people. Competence can be found in every tribe and religion. There has to be a balance. How would you zone two principal positions in the national assembly to northern Muslims when the president and vice are Muslims already? Will the Muslims take that If the situation were reversed?

The clamour for justice equity and fairness will continue until we either get that delicate balance or the regions are allowed to part ways
Travel › Re: Disadvantages Of Living Abroad Or Obodo Oyinbo by Iamzik: 9:45pm On May 10, 2023
Hamachi:
What are the pros and cons of living abroad?
It depends if you are moving for financial or non financial reasons, and how long you move for.

If you are moving for a short period of time when you are young, there are seldom many negatives.

Few people regret studying abroad for a year, doing an internship or a gap year.

When it comes to longer-term assignments, financial considerations are important for most people.

The major positives associated with moving abroad are

If you work for a multi-national, there are sometimes bigger packages abroad, especially in frontier markets due to hardship allowances. For instance, if you are an oil & gas engineer working in Canada or Norway, you are likely to be paid more if you move to Nigeria or Myanmar on a two-year contract.
For business owners, the world markets are always a bigger opportunity than just only focusing on the local market. Whilst it is true that you can target people online successfully, a stint overseas will teach you about other cultures, give you fresh ideas and so on.
New languages and skills will help you if you move back to your home country
If you are high-net-worth you can save a lot on taxes if you move to certain countries, and do the right planning

The main negatives are

In your home country you get back ended benefits. In low-tax countries overseas, you get front ended benefits. What do I mean by that? In your home country, you might feel you are being weighed down by the taxes. However, you get back some of that money when you get old or are sick as per the graph below:

In comparison, if you have more money from lower taxes, you get front ended benefits. This can be great, but only if you are self-disciplined enough to save and invest more.

However, plenty of people in low taxes countries like the UAE and Singapore don’t do that, as many studies have shown
Career wise, you will be behind your peer back home, if you don’t use your time overseas wisely.
What are the pros and cons of teaching abroad?
What are the advantages or disadvantages of living and working abroad?
What are the pros and cons of moving back to your home country after living abroad?
What are the pros and cons of living in your country?

What are the pros and cons of moving abroad, and where are some good places to live?
Let´s start with the cons to get that out of the way first

1.
The more countries you have lived in, the more you loose a sense of belonging (at least I feel that way). I have lived in 9 different ones and although I have of course great memories and part of my heart is in all of them, I feel I belong nowhere and certainly not in my home country anymore either.

After so many years I crave a sense of belonging, a base to call home (even if it just means to be there a couple of months a year), friends I do not have to say goodbye to every few months or years. And no, to stay in touch on Social Media is not the same at all, I personally create bonding through shared experiences and not by living in past memories.

2.
If you move a lot and you know you will not be in a place for a very long time, you wonder if it makes sense to emotionally invest in relationships and friendships and I think sometimes relationship become more superficial because building them takes time and commitment and you know you will leave again and who wants heart breaks.

3.
Depending on your age group, aging parents back home suddenly become a concern. One is far away and cannot just jump in a plane and is home in one hour. A sense of guilt sets in even if your loved ones give you no reason to feel guilt and its only in your head. And you also realize time becomes more precious and one is far away.

4.
When you get home you realize your friends are more or less still the same, they have aged too, might have created a family, changed jobs, etc. but essentially they are still the same. You on the other hand have changed, its unavoidable. Your horizons have widened and you might not have that much in common with old friends anymore. There is a sense of loss and sadness.

5.
Depending on where you are abroad, romantic relationships can take a back seat. If an independent western single women in her late twenties or thirties comes for example to Asia with the hope to not only find professional opportunities and adventures but also a partner to create a family with, I would say, think twice, your choices will be limited, but that is a topic for a different question.

6.
The longer you are in a certain region the more difficult it will be to go back to your home country if you ever want to return, because your skills and experiences will become more bankable in your new country than in your home country. If your business is online it’s a different story of course.

7.
Loneliness can also be an issue. If you do not consider yourself the love of your life and enjoy time alone too, you will struggle, because it is unavoidable that there will be moments when you will be alone, especially if you just arrive in a new place. And when you get sick its also not exactly fun.

8.
Constantly having to let go is sad, at least for me. I do not like to let go of things, people, places that entered my heart, but sometimes life changes and there is nothing you can do about it.

In many places (such as Singapore, Dubai for example) people are in transit, they stay for a couple of years and then they move on, you might loose a job and the work permit that goes with it and the list goes on. If you have no plan B, the stress level rises.

9.
You feel often disconnected if you do not speak the local language, but might also not live there long enough to really fluently communicate. Some languages especially for westerns are just not so easy to learn (thai is one of them).

The frustration you feel when you start learning a new language and can only express yourself like a 2 year old in the body and with the mind of a grown up person.

10.

Personally I also feel sometimes alone, when there is nobody who shares a certain sense of humor. Humor is often very different and culture specific. I can laugh my head off about certain things or situations and my colleagues just look at me and wonder what that is all about.

And they laugh about certain things and I cannot see what is funny about it either. Laughing is also about bonding with people, so I can say sometimes I miss bonding over a shared sense of humor.

Now that we are done with some of the cons, lets talk about the wonderful pros.

1.
You change for the better

2.
You become more tolerant

3.
You become a better Ambassador of your home country when you return. I swear, whenever I return home, I am particularly friendly to anybody who is foreign, I feel so connected because I am a foreigner in other countries too, so I want them to feel welcome and leave with good memories.

4.
Once you have lived abroad, this place will never ever be just a dot on the map. It will penetrate your memory, it will become part of your history, if you disliked your experience or loved it does not matter, it will never leave you indifferent anymore.

5.
You develop courage and learn how to overcome obstacles

6.
You learn to rely on yourself

7.
You realize that essentially all people in the world are the same, we are just shaped by different education, background, beliefs, etc. but we all want to be respected, loved, heard and acknowledged.

8.
You become more flexible (you just have to)

9.
You age slower, because whenever you learn or see something new it feels the days are much longer and more intense. Every day is a new adventure and there is less routine.

10.
Everywhere I go there is something I love and I weave it into my personality to take it with me. It is like as I go along, I create a more interesting and better version of myself (at least I think that, but that is a good start).

11.
You learn to judge less and listen more.

12.
You will feel more emotionally connected to the world.
I really enjoyed reading this. Wow....just wow!
Thank you so much

Anything that prevents the likes of Orji Uzo Kalu and Dave Umahi from taking the Senate president position.
Please note I'm Igbo but I hate it when this selfish politicians play the tribal card for their own selfish desires.
Orji Uzo Kalu once said that Muslim Muslim ticket is good for Presidency but for his own selfish desires he'd faulting a Muslim senate president.
Same as Dave Umahi who was calling for competency and not zoning for Presidency only to start playing tribal card to achieve his selfish desire if being Senate president.

I'm Obedient and I await fervently on the recovery of our mandate, however, I refuse to allow myself to be clouded by the petty sentiments sold by these old men. I don't care if the president, vice and senate president are all Muslims, Christians or traditional believers. I don't care if all of them comes from the same state, geopolitical zone or tribe.
All I want is a working nation where there's social justice, equity and ample opportunities for all.

Had APC choose Osibanjo as their candidate, I'd have voted for him.
Had even Tinubu contested maybe 10 years ago, maybe I'll vote for him...

That being said, God bless Nigeria as we hope to elope one day
Nigeria is too complex to downplay the balance of religion and ethnicity. Nigeria will never work untill that balance is achieved.

APC sowed the wind with their Muslim Muslim ticket. It will come to bite their ass soon enough.

Those who wrote federal character are not fools

Politics › Re: Court Invalidates NBC's powers to Impose Sanctions, Fines On Broadcast Stations by Iamzik: 1:49pm On May 10, 2023
lhordspy:
Maybe i am wrong BUT This doesnt make sense. NBC is a regulating commission/body, it should have power to be able to sanction erring broadcasting organisation without having to rely on the judiciary.

Instead it is the broadcasting organisation that should file a case at the court if they are not satisfy with the sanctions impose on them.

It is more like telling LASTMA, ROAD SAFETY or other precautionary and regulating agency to seek court intervention before impounding your vehicle for going against the law or NCC trying to seek court intervention before imposing sanctions on erring network providers. These are regulatory bodies, it is one of their main responsibility taken away from them while rendering them incapacitated.

Court process takes too long. We all know NBC is the only thing holding this mischievous and overly sentimental media houses by the balls and checkmating their excesses. If not, journalism would have been an insane crazy affair in this country. It should be the other way round. Anyone who is not satisfy with the sanctions should go to court not the regulatory body seeking court intervention and interpretation before imposing sanctions.

Take a look at ARISETV as a case study. This is an invitation to unethical, unprincipled journalism. In a bid to cleanse the country's mediums of information of partisanship and unprofessional conduct. The court strikes. This is a judgement against our sanity.
Wrong examples. Go and read the act that setup lastma and road safety

Yesterday na Ukraine, today na US! 🤣
The same thing Russia is accusing Uncle Sam of is what they've been doing in Ukraine, so wetin come be the noise? 🤷‍♂️

Even if this was US doing, then the assassination on Putin is somewhat justifiable since Putin attacked Ukraine and the US didn't attack Russia.

In March 2014, Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine. This was a direct violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and it posed a threat to the international community. The US as a member of the international community had a responsibility to respond.

However, the US did not attack Russia in response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine. I will say this was a mistake. Well, they had their reasons.
Putin took advantage of the US's inaction and he continued to violate Ukraine's sovereignty. In addition, he began to meddle in the US elections, which posed a threat to the US's democracy.
So, Putin and Russia with em wailers should shut their damned mouth! 😏
One question for you. How many countries has US invaded and are still occupying? For what Reason?

How many countries have Ukraine invaded and are occupying? For what reason?
