lhordspy: This is the NLC president Ajaero at work. He was the Electricity Union leader before coming into NLC. He is definitely the one pulling the string of NUEE. Very stubborn man.
I remember during his time at NUEE, he shut down National Grid at will, like it is some sort of his personal toy. The thing is, he doesnt even know who he is joking with this time. By the time Tinubu is done with him. The corrupt petrol marketers sponsoring him, who are hellbent on running this country into ground; wont be able to save him. Even Peter Obi, his eastern brother will pity him.
Anytime a student misbehaved, and bask in its glory, one of my professor back then in school will always say: "Leave him alone, Let him 'dance'. Pride goes, before a fall. We will all be here to see how it ends" Most Nigerians support subsidy removal but not by a sudden announcement at eagle square before assuming office. That was a careless mistake and I hope y'all have the humility to admit it. Industrial action is legal and acceptable way of protesting Draconian government policy like the sudden announcement of subsidy removal without any plan or consultation with key stakeholders. Tinubu goofed big time but you APC minions act like zombies and will never see anything wrong with it. Tinubu will be taught a lesson on how not to run his mouth anyhow as president. If you like tell tinunu to arrest the NLC president or send assassins to kill him or you can try to create a new faction in every labour union like you did to ASUU.... that is APC headache but a statement must be made that Nigerians will not be walked over by stupid politicians. |

Confirmedzombie: Since the announcement of strike by NLC, both Atiku and Peter have not altered any word.
Its obvious Peter obi and Atiku are the mastermind of this purported strike action by NLC.
Both Peter obi and Atiku are people who talked heaven and earth to change Nigeria but can't rise up on their voices to back the subsidy removal all cos they lost the election.
Honestly Nigeria dodged a bullet not voting both Peter obi and Atiku. You need to borrow some sense Even if fuel is increased to 2000/ltr obi and atiku can afford it without feeling a pinch. These two are busy in court what did you expect them to say? Is any of them the president? None of them went to Ojota to protest in 2012. It was the same Tinubu and Buhari that said subsidy does not exist in 2012. How come he's trying to remove what does not exist after 10 years? |

Is it that NNPC can't fix price for other players or what?
A limited Liability company has every right to set for itself the price at which to trade it's products, peak Milk can decide to increase the price of it's products tomorrow, it's another thing if people will still buy. Nnpc is the sole importer of petrol today I hope you get the logic now |
Politics › Re: President Tinubu And The Dangers Of Fuel Subsidy Removal - Kperogi by Iamzik: 11:05am On Jun 03, 2023 |
nairalanda1: It is like Kperoggi does not get why subsidy is evil.
The problem with subsides is that here in Nigeria, we don't do what the US does and subsidise production. Instead we spend time subsidising things at the sale point.
So, we sell fuel below what it costs to refine it, and what it costs to transport it. The result...distortions that lead to things like smugging, stealing, looting and corruption.
But here is why subsidy is insidious.....the difference between the production cost and the subsidised cost keeps rising. That adds to the subsidy cost. Then the increase in number of consumers, that also adds on.
Then how are we paying for the subsidy.? We pay for it from oil income...which in Nigeria has never been enough because the price is never high enough (that is why GEJ took loans even when oil prices were high...for those of you who love to crap on that). And oil prices have been low since 2014. Very low. So, we have to borrow to make up the difference...and a large chunk of the money goes to subsidy.
And the more the cost of the subsidy rises...the greater the amount we spend from the budget...till we reach a point where we spend all our revenue on subsidy, borrow to add to money spent on subsidy, and then cover the deficit with more borrowing.
And the more we do that, the worse it gets.
Look, I am aware the poor will suffer when subsidy goes. God knows I know this and hate it, so for anyone quoting me to abuse and call me naimes, or ask silly questions, or call me government supporter....I know.
But if we keep the subsidy, we would have reached a point where there would have been no money for things like salaries, projects, etc. And if we were making fuel at home, we would start saving cost by skimping on refinery repair and maintenance....and that's how we lost our 4 refineries...and became net importers, and ended up being at the mercy of cabals....because we wanted cheap fuel.
Anyone advoxcating for subsidy wants us to be as broke as Sri Lanka and Lebanon. So broke that the IMF is literally running things there.
If you want the poor to be helped...remove subsidy. And yes, people would suffer, but when we get better refineries, improved production and more revenue, we would wake up.
And yes, APC has failed. But the fact that we have a devious APC government in charge should not be an excuse to keep subsidy. Subsidy is not evil. All advanced countries have one form of subsidy or the other. Let the government cut the waste and fish out those frustrating the policy. The level of poverty and insecurity left by buhari cannot cope with 500/ltr of fuel in Nigeria. By next week everybody will start feeling the full impact. Food, transport and cost of basic services will Tripple. |

babaolofin: The truth of the matter is that as time goes on some of their members would break away and resume. There is nothing Tinubu can do. Nigeria does not have money to pay subsidy on PMS again. Locally, 1 litre of Kerosene is 1K as they sell Pepsi bottle (50CL) =N=500 in the local markets. Some big buses and most Volkswagen LT buses use Diesel (AGO). Subsidy have been removed on AGO & JetKero, those buses are being used for transportation. Aviation and cooking stoves users are surviving.
The leadership of the Labour Union understood the case of Nigeria where as at May 29 the Military and civil servants have not been paid. The leadership of the Labour Union can never support FG to be borrowing to pay salaries and pay for subsidies but how will they explain to majority of their members?
Nigeria is about to move forward finally. Nigeria can never pay subsidy on PMS again. It is gone forever. AGO and JetKero have no subsidy , it must be removed on PMS as well. There is no money to even pay it. Labour is not saying don't remove subsidy. Labour is saying you cannot just announce the removal in your first speech and cause panic and hardship throughout the country. There should be a plan and deliberate policy on ground to help reduce the effect. Tinubu made a mistake with that careless speech and I hope him and his minions realize that |

✍️Zimbabwe-$1.753/N1,314.75
✍️Central African Republic-$2.217/N1,662.75
KINDLY NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
✍️As at 13.54pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the platt price of a metric ton of the gasoline/pms [ offshore Lome] is $790/ per ton or N441/liter [1ton=1,341 liters]
✍️By the time you add other costs[ logistics, handling, finances insurance , admin, etc], the landing price of the Pms at the depot depending on the location in Nigeria will be around N500 - N520 per liters.
✍️So, prices at filling stations will range between N520 to N570 per liter anywhere within Nigeria...
✍️The above pricing per liter is lower than that of the other African countries listed above ...
✍️Interestingly, many Nigerians assume that the coming on stream of the Dangote refinery whenever it starts operations [ tomorrow or next year], will result in crash of the average price of the pms .. this is not true or factual
✍️Dangote is a business man and will sell to other African countries... check their prices above ...He is not Mr Charity and has never shown himself to be one ..
✍️ The cost of 50kg bag of cement in Nigeria is more expensive than what is obtainable in other parts of Africa , where he has plants ....
✍️The shipping, handling, logistics and transport cost of moving the products from the refinery in lagos to other parts of Nigeria and storage centers will still there . He will still buy crude oil at the international market rates ....
HOW DO WE NAVIGATE THROUGH THE CURRENT REALITIES OF A FULLY DEREGULATED DOWNSTREAM OIL AND GAS SECTOR, [WITHOUT SUBSIDIES], ...IN SUCH WAYS AND MANNER THAT THE EFFECTS ON THE MASSES IS CUSHIONED...?
1. The FGN must ensure that the foreign exchange market rate is merged , so that no system criminal is given undue advantages other others...
2. The three NNPC managed refineries must be totally Privatized and handed over to other deep pocketed indigenous private sector oil and gas players [Not Dangote or BUA]...
3. An open, transparent, accountable and competitive oil and gas sector will attract massive non fiscal investments into the Nigerian oil and gas sector, [ across all the streams )
3. The FGN must put on place measure to protect our upstream oil and gas assets to enable us bring back into the Federation purse the over $1.9billion worth of crude oil that were stolen monthly under the Buhari regime ..
4.The FGN and the Governors Forum must meet to fashion out robust PPP arrangements to create production driven incentives and palliatives to help the masses .
5. Some of the recommendations include , agreeing to keep aside 50% of the extra revenues will acrue into the Federation Account into a pool that will be managed by the Nigerian Sovereign Wealth Authority...
6. A working committee and task force of state and non state actors , representatives of NSWIA NLC, NBA, NMA , NURTW, etc to manage the funds and borrow against receivables to invest in key and critical sectors of the economy to drive growth and grow the purchasing power parity of the average Nigerian.
✍️The Massive outrage in Nigeria today, is because we are used to over 2 decades terrible behaviour of not accepting and doing our first jobs as citizens of this country. ..
✍️We have refused to collectively hold accountable those , who we rigged and voted in to rule us, because of our penchant and proclivity to quickly relapse into our ethno-religious closets/ iberiberism. Now everyone will fill the pinch and perhaps, common sense will be knocked into a majority of us going forward
Lets all join to totally Slay CORRUPTION AND INSECURITY in Nigeria
NIGERIA is easily salvageable...
Obiaraeri, Nnaemeka Onyeka
Copied What do you aim to achieve with the data you dumped here? How many of these countries have the amount of oil reserves we have in Nigeria. Parachoko: Subsidy is gone
There's no need for all this unnecessary argument. Nigerians are very easily decieved. This is a price hike not subsidy removal. If subsidy is totally removed the downstream sector will be totally deregulated meaning that government will allow private companies to import PMS and sell without price fixing. Then there will be competition that will eventually force the price down in few years time. The government will also allow modular refineries to support local supply in addition to dangote refinery. None of these has been done and Nigerians are being decieved that subsidy is gone. This movie go looooooong |

@BOLDED 2, I have tried to think of a better way for him to relay that info and I have come empty on numerous occasions. He was simply trying to clear his name. I don't know why you call it a "declaration", because it was all part of his inaugural speech. He said the subsidy won't continue, because it wasn't in the budget that has already been signed by law. If we had good laws and enforcement agencies, any filling station that hoards or sells at a different rate from now till the start of the implementation of the next budget would face legal consequences. That's how serious nations do it. Tinubu did what had to be done, and I am not his supporter. I wish him removed from office today. My opinion is based on sociopolitical considerations. You just confirmed my position. Tinubu is now president and he's in control of all organs of the federal government. DPR is an enforcement agency empowered to seal any filling station selling above approved pump price...where are they? Did Tinubu give them special orders to act?. Police and military are law enforcement agencies and all these agencies are backed by law. This was a clear case of putting the cart before the horse. Dangote refinery is due to commence operations in July so what's the rush about?
