another angle: do you people know that islam allows a married woman to retain her father's name even she may not use that of the husband at all. i once asked a learned scholar why n he said a woman whether married or not is a responsible person and she would answer for all her deed and she is in the same footing with man. so surname is a matter of choice to her and no man has right to force her to bear his name or infringe upon her choice in any way. |
reason 3, yorubas are generally tolerant and religion can never be an exception. reason 4, they are civilized and i think most affected by the polity called nigeria because amalgamation many yoruba cities were par with western world in terms of development. reasons 5, they love life and merry making is their culture. just give it to yorubas when it comes to tolerance. @abysirius, visit that ogbomosho and go round do you know that soun is a muslim. your estimate is not very good . |
reason 2, yorubas have only one thing that is common, cherished above all things and deify n that is the language. once u can speak the language you are one and once u dont remind them that u are not one of them by name, distinct characterand culture. that is why you have what u called yorubanised groups. this reminds why i laugh when some insinuate that yorubas have derogative names of callin other persons or so. even yoruba make jest and abuse one another in positive ways. |
at present it will be save to estimate that muslims are still very predomenant in kwara and lagos let say 90p, oyo and osun around 70(the only places where christians are many in osun are ilesha and ife groups infact a place like ede is almost 100p muslims); ogun should be around 45:45 while ondo should 75:20 in favour of christianity ekiti should have nothing less than 90 p christians. moreover, most are transitive in religion. perceived reasons for that follow. |
reason 1: historically, yorubas were tradtionalist from beginning den came islam. at d peak, some areas were fully muslims or predominantly like kwara n lagos while some were mainly like oyo, osun, n strongly like ogun n ondo while ekiti was minority. den came christianity datsaw to d conversion of mostly traditionalists and some muslims mostly because of western education. since den dere's still continous flux. 1 thing is certain dey believe dat you can change ur religion but not easily ur blood |
how i wish u people would live and let live. everybody dat involved in d war knew it was a mistake n i believe still regretting it today. let me tell you dis, you will never be free until u see everyone as citizen of d world and dose under d same sun as u as ur hood. tribalism n religion bigotism kill souls. im much more suprised by so called yoruba on dis thread because i know yoruba is beyond tribalism. its game was played decades ago for selfish game by the opportuned. pls, let build our nation together. |
eid mubarak to all |
You see that is why I almost conclude that many chritians/pastors are deceitful. This reminds me of many silly lies I heard when I first set out for the truth, though I have no problem with christianity. |
@op,Im sorry to find fault with ur dream. Atleast for academic exercise, let criticise ur journey. 1 How long did u stay in d prescence of those heavenly people to claim that they didnt excrete/egest. 2 If son of god had to be riding around daily (on corn's whatsoever) to D istribute things, then he is not God . 3 If your god could live in a dome, dance and so on then he is fathomable, sorry it cant be God. 4 others limitations that can easily b underlined. May be its 1of d astral planes u visited. |
Those names are still being used but are now being pronounced in modern ways. |
alaoeri: @poster u don't know say sule na suleiman while the xtian version is solomon. Luku is lukman while the xtian version is luke.Pls, Lukman is not Luke. |
@moremi2008. arab for black is aswad. pls correct that. in case you infer it from an article, slaves in old arab world were not only blacks. |
i find it hand to understand what gives some persons gut to question people's affair. the greatest burden is trying to judge just based on one perception. i remember president's roosevelt response to one american view ofjapanese/china eyes inclination(slant)even if either of the partner is in the relation for selfish gain who tells u that the other is not possibly gaining more from it. what is good? immanuel kant answered: good in itself and by qualification. age is just a number. this is ur life; live it. |
This is what we should be suggesting not insult and stone throwing. To check terrorism, let there be equity and justice in the spirit of fiscal federalism. Truth be told: the buck stops at the desk of Mr. President, he should consult the sultan and his chieftains n if necessary beg him. i keep on saying SULTANATE is a strongest factor in Nigeria. Then he has to take steps he is afraid of or just delegates his authority n close his eyes until the job is done. |
samkoro: Listed here are Koranic verses which are the foundation for these beliefs (prejudice). You are wrong. This is what I warned against yesterday about direct literal translation of quran. You've got to learn it from their tafsir specialists. Let me give u one other quote: curse be on those who say salat quran 107:4 |
monami2abd: Nlanders,You are totally right there. |
I can say that you, people, are really entertaining me. I was born into one of these religions and have had cause to practise another and still sojourning to others to understand human thought and values. I will like to say to all defenders of faiths that ' he who lives in glass house doesn't throw stone'. All religions have failed humanity test. However, the faithfuls of today, can try to leave better legacy than their predeccesor for I once heard Donald Trump saying all men live to redeemed their forebears' deeds or improve upon it. Really. You all make me laugh; atheists, I salute your courage in this age of deceit and pretence. How I wish people could see that it is all politics. |
TroGunn: BH quoted Quran 9:29 as the basis for their attack.i really appreciate this. Though i cannot claim authority on interpretation of any part of quran, i will like to clarify that it was revealed according to tafsir experts in connection to continous war between muslims and other arabs at the time due to lack of trust that exist then between them and their neighbours that include arab christians, jews, majusians, traditionalits and so on. U should know that tafsir experts always differentiate between christians then and now.even christians then were classified in one chapter of the quran. As to why i warned against direct literal translation or quotation, i learnt once that there is a surat in quran that depicts prosperity from direct translation and most muslims till date use it to supplicate for riches but indepth analysis and exegesis by tafsir experts explains that it only foretold the death of the prophet. Another thing i learnt is that, thoug,h the verses of surat are well arranged but the next verse to a given verse may not actually follow it in context and import. One thing i know for sure all religions preach violent at one point or the other due to circumstances and mostly when the state unite with priesthood or church or mosque or what have you.this is what thomas paine dwelt so much on when condemming the word 'tolerance' in connection with religion in his part 2 of right of man in reponse to edmund burke's reflection on france revolution. |
I beg you all to make judicious views devoid of emotion and prejudice. To those quoting quran literally, my experience has taught me that it cannot be quoted thus. This made me to doubt the news for it lack substance. |
@akigbemaru: i appreciate n thank u for keeping off. @peterkbaba: pls let everybody keep off tribalism atleast for now. |
@akigbemaru: pls dear co-citizen, i beg in the name and with all/anything that is dear to you stop/cool down. and to the internet warriors -yorubas are only courteous and not everybody can condone your excesses. you have forgotten that isreal owe egypt as warned in scripture. |
MacLovington: You mean Osama bin Igbinedioni was rushing ,so i didnt crosscheck it. however, a couth person would have known better. |
esama ofbenin even went ahead to call ife their mecca. i think it should be in newswatch or so. i will like to stop here. though i question the import of the person that pose the questions, yoruba from my study is not a tribe just the way we have in nigeria. for history students, yoruba is just like what people term arab today. most of the so called arab today are arabinised arabs. it is left to those people like iraq, iran, libya, egypt to identify with anyone likewise the scenario in question. |
its on record dat oba of benin didnt respond to dat atleast openly because it's in d public domain. anybody can getfact from any dailies. as 4 for lagos, it is true dat lagos, ondo and part of benin republic was at a time under benin empire.you can notice dis till date in d obas insignia like sword in dose areas. infact d only pers dat was trying to back oba of benin den was oba of lagos. i tin its true obas of benin were being buried in ife before dis was attested to by esama of benin around late 80s. tb |
how i wish i had time. hwver, d questions shd've bn responded to by original edos while yorubas shd only learn n other nations watching audience. first, early edos n yorubas were separate entities at d beginning but dey had contact through a prince. d 1st person to claim dat yoruba prince was a furgitive edo prince is the present oba of benin in a book he wrote about 2 decades ago n oni of ife who happened to be at d launching told him dere dat he goofed n asked him to read books written by edo profs. tbc |
ismhab: MY FRIEND DON'T WASTE UR TIME, NO BODY WILL RECOGNIZE UR CERTIFICATE IN NIGERIA.You are wrong there.I know quite well that some distinguished persons did distance learning in their time, which among other modes today is online study. A very good example is Chief Afe Babalola who studied with London School of Economics. |
The sky is blue. |
I think Mr. president was wrong to have said that because he willingly contested for the post, albeit if that is what he actually meant. However, he shouldn't have worded it like that if his thought was that he was not the one that caused the problems for him to solve it in a tango. It takes time to correct many wrongs. |
would you please take time to comprehend people's thought before responding. i didnt say anambra sacked imo or vice versa. i think i now understand where u are coming from. i appreciate you being a participant.thanks. |
sure, i'ant and dont pretend to be omniscience. note that i didn't castigate or screw d igbo nation likewise other tenants in d polity called nigeria. moreover, imo/anambra imbroglio i raised is always reflected in views of either of them when discussing any trivial issue n this is sign of tins to come as witnessed by sacking of 1 eastern state indigines by another. i'm a citizen of d world n can remember quite vividly my parents advice that i should never hav cause to abuse myself/parent by abusing others |
Dede1: The above is a ranting of an ant. You are free to migrate to south-south or southwest when Nigeria breaks up. Ndigbo do not want efulefu such as you in their midst.I never hate or abhor Igbo.I am just trying to analyse the state of things and I will appreciate it if we should all at least be civilized in our converse.I did not say Igbo should not secede, I only warn of what may happen if we have the scenario. Think twice and know that the best oracle is history. |
To fight is out of question for me. Moreover, I will always stand for one Nigeria at any time. Everybody should take time to reflect on how each so called regions were before the advent of Europeans. Though southwest was a bit stable cos there is always a central power somehow but the history is there for everyone to see how they were at each other jugular(You can never see a Yoruba man contemplating division and I have never heard them dreaming or rehearsing secession). My great concern has always been for the Igbos: never in history have we ever seen a commonwealth in the east, acephalous form of government/power, Osu dilemna, Imo/anambra imbroglio and so on. For the north, I think the central government/power will not hold this time because of the awakeness of the middlebeltans and others. The only part that I think can remain one after division is the south/south people, however they will return to exactly what Nigeria is today. Our problem is not religion, ethnicity and what have you, but simply corruption. |
