World War 3 countdown fears: US navy bosses 'fear Russia gaining control of Mediterranean'

THE US navy could ramp up its presence in the Mediterranean seas to take on Russia's warships based in Syria, according to a navy source.

American navy chiefs are considering "long-term" deployments in the Mediterranean as well as keeping four guided missile destroyers stationed in Rota, Spain, a senior Navy official told Russian news agency Sputnik.

If realized this would bring back the power struggle over control over one of the most important seas in the world that was last played out during the Cold War.

Most European merchant shipping carrying goods from Asia passes through the Suez Canal in Eygpt.

With its new Syrian bases, Russian warships could block ships from entering the canal as it imposes its own trade sanctions on NATO countries.

The US has not had a major presence in the Med since the mid-1990s following the end of the Cold War.

But in the past past year, the US Navy has moved four Arleigh Burke-class destroyers into the Mediterranean as part of its ballistic missile defence program in Europe amid increasing tensions with Russia.

Moscow has described this as dangerous and destabilizing.

A US source told Sputnik news: "The reason for those discussions at the top of that list, again, is the increased Russian presence and what it means.

"You could say it’s because of the migrant issue and the tax that that has put on European navies, and then certainly because of the increased Russian naval presence and capability."

It comes as former US defence secretary William Perry revealed the risk of a nuclear catastrophe – in a regional war, terrorist attack, accident or miscalculation – is greater than during the Cold War and rising.

Any progress towards peace made after the fall of the Soviet Union is unravelling and there is a "new danger" of an nuclear exchange between the US and Russia, he said.

The world could end by accident if either trigger-happy military misinterprets a threat.

Less dan a week ago u asked if Niger Insurance was a gud buy. And over d years u have accumulated 5.8 million shares of it. It is either u are Lai Mohammed by claiming u acquired 5.8 million shares or u were monkey hunting wen u asked if Niger insurance was a gud buy.

It is a good stock, some people watched the price of their stock fall in value while Niger insurance price remained same

Sir we should be looking at (4.5 - 5) kobo dividend payment and possibly over 50% price appreciation. The appointment of Abubakar as the new chairman is already sending off positive vibes in the industry not to mention its upcoming result which will show a higher increase in underwriting income and therefore PAT, the future of this company is definitely bright. I have acquired 5.8m shares over a few years till date so I bow to your 15m. It is a good stock, some people watched the price of their stock fall in value while Niger insurance price remained same (being penny stock) and they continually paid dividend (7%) - my investment remained intact. I am currently accumulating FBNH as long as it remains below N5.00 though it may not be the best stock for now considering their loan portfolio and CBN regulations and restrictions on banks but the resilience of this bank for over a century and the new management will of course turn the bank around on the long term. This is a prize we may not witness in the next 10 years. Succeeded with 680,000 units so far and still accumulating gradually FOR LONG TERM. UBA is also on my radar but I take stocks one at a time and long term.
