Pedro is Nkunku replacement, Gittens is Sancho, George won't need a replacement, only a replacement for Madueke looks likely when he's sold. City have Savinho, Doku, Grealish, Foden, Bobb, Haaland, Marmoush, Cherki for 4 positions. Barcelona has Yamal, raphiniha, Lewandowski, Olmo, Ferran, Fermin and they are also actively looking for another winger to add. Every team needs depth.

For me it's not even about million wingers, I always believe that having too many good players for a position could be counter productive and it wouldn't take long before one of them leave to a club where they can play and be the protagonist.

We saw it with Fabregas/Thiago at Barca, Salah/KDB, Aubameyang/Immobile, Palmer at City, Ozil/Isco, Benzema/Higuain, Sanchez/Neymar/Pedro, Bravo/Stegen, Alvarez at city and many more. Some examples may not match but the point is that a bloated squad doesn't last. Eventually they'll want to leave to be regulars elsewhere.

So my theory is this, say a team is playing with 4:3:3, for the front 3, five players are okay, at max 6. For the midfield, 5 players okay, max 6. Talented youth players can fill in when needed.

Barcola is the 4th man for PSG. When everyone is fit he's on the bench even though he's playing lots of games. Eventually he'll look to be the main man elsewhere. At Bayern he'll be starter so I see him leaving. May not be this summer though.

Madueke, Estavoa, Pedro, Jackson, Delap, Neto, Gittens, George is overkill for three positions even if he(Mmadu) leaves, adding other players unless Mbape level player is just a waste at this point. I didn't even add Nkunku and Palmer.

From a tactical perspective, Maresca's system is heavily reliant on wingers. So winger provisioning takes priority.

From a numbers perspective, we had Mudryk, Sancho, Madueke, Neto and still went and signed Estevao.

Right now, we have lost Sancho, Mudryk and Madueke. If somehow we kept all 3, we still would have kept Estevao on top. Right now, we only have Gittens as replacement. 3 out, 1 in. But I ask for 3 out, 3 in and it's a problem? No!

We are not overprovisioning the department, considering we now have CL.

Business wise, if Nwaneri becomes available as a result of Arsenal mis-purchasing Madueke, you take that opportunity. Because worst case scenario, you make money. We are in PSR era baba, we must flog valuable assets year in year out to stay afloat. You know the drill.


Nkunku, Sterling, Felix, and the rest are all gone. Not part of the squad. Nothing concerns me with those one. If we can move CSO, we can move them.

We are going into 4 competitions. Kudus, Estevao, Nwaneri for right wing, Gittens, Neto, Tyrique for LW and getting £50m for Madueke (knowing we have Quenda in next season), is the exact definition of great squad building, strength in depth and superb footballing business.

We have the advantage of owning and sending Nwaneri to Strasbourg if we want to, and flipping him for £50m in two years,

Enzo was once terrible, he frustrated me and even nearly made me break my TV. While I criticized him aggressively, I have come to realize that there has been massive improvement. This was exactly why I stopped criticizing Jorginho.

An unbiased mind will see that he now runs more which is very evident in the number of times he opens up to receive passes even in tight corners as well as arrive late in the box.

Palmer was the one who made our midfield struggle badly yesterday. A number of times I saw him fail to follow his man during a press. I didn’t spot Enzo loose guard his man for once. He only struggles a bit during transitions. I salute Santos’ peak physical performance yesterday for mitigating the situation. He proved himself physically but Enzo’s technicality helped get us out of dangerous areas.

I will continue watching Enzo with an open mind because I simply wish all our players well and no criticism from me is personal.

Enzo in this current form will start an almost every top team in the world so it is not really a Maresca thing anymore.

Joao Pedro played 95% of his games for Watford on the wing. Not impressed.

We need a specialist LW and a striker.

We have the best goalie in Ligue 1 returning, the best midfielder in Ligue 1 last year outside PSG returning, and a potential generational talent AM/RW joining up. Alongside Mamadou Sarr, whom I happen to rate higher than Dean Huijsen at CB.

Na striker and LW remain and we have to get it right. Joao Pedro is not a bad player but he isn't a needle mover and his numbers are average.
