Fahdiga: We the Yorubas have tainted the image of this country for long. Why is it that every bad thing is linked to us. I'm ashamed to be a Yoruba man
GoddyOra: While I was a newbie programmer myself, I dabbled into almost every aspect of software development: mobile app (learnt Kotlin a bit using Android Studio), web development (struggled with PHP at first) then AI/Machine learning (with Python)'
That's the mistake most newbies find themselves in: trying to learn everything instead of picking just one aspect and aspiring to master it. Well I finally passed my "Tutorial hell" stage and stuck with Python .
Now I do virtually everything with python from Web designing (Django) to AI and Data Science.
Your Kotlin pick for Android mobile app development makes sense to me. How far have you gone? Have you finished any of your projects yet?
Are you just an enthusiast or you code to make ends? Cos the last the time I checked, python frameworks(esp. Django) were not in demand when it comes to Nigerian software market
seun000: I can't just stop laughing after watching this video. This is actually what most thieves deserves whenever they went for there operation. You wont believe what they went through with those feracious lions. Click on link to watch video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCRDTx7SL_w
This video is poor and not marketable. If you want to be a comedian, focus on skits you can afford to shoot. Using 3D animated objects requires skills and standard equipment. So please cut your coat according to your cloth. Plus we already heard/saw this kinda joke for the zillionth time. So please dish us something new.
MansoryMX: One of the many reasons I never worked in a bank despite so many opportunities to work in banks these past years. Self employment, Street, hustling deals daily from middle man sales of cars, real estate to anything at all is just the best way to live in this country and not die of frustration. Then if e sure for your side run away from this country! God forbid nonsense!
Bro I have a house urgently for sale. No agents involved!
Na teenage konji, I used to frequently experience this when I was a teenager. Infact, my love for big ass was triggered by a lady I dated in my dream (I was a soldier, I rescued her and we fell in love)
privaldo: You're also more likely to climb the ladder without bribery or "man know man" if live in a working system like Canada. There are so many Nigerians who are wealthy and making it outside country, such as the CEO of Calendly, and not everyone wishes to make the Forbes list.
The Lebanese, Indians, and Chinese are also trooping into Canada and it's like massively. Immigration stats shows that Chinese and Indians are among the highest legal immigrants in Western countries. Not everyone one must stay in a developing and destabilized economy that lacks direction.
Again, you have no stats for this. The United States churns out the highest amount of millionaires annually, and also the largest amount of startups globally this can't be achieved in a nation like Nigeria which practices exactly what you talked of.
Someone's choice can't be termed stupid because it doesn't suit your narrative. People live Nigeria to Canada and other developed countries every month and guess what they survive and adapt to the system.
Why will a Software Engineer work in Nigeria and earn N800,000 a month but still be scared of harassment/death from security operatives when Canada can offer you more money for your job, and security of your life.
It's not just about giving your children second passports after all Brazil offers that, it's about allowing them grow up in a sane environment where things work and people, government, and institutions can be held accountable for their actions.
You're using New York as an example compared to Lagos where this happens everyday in almost every location. The killings in New York mostly takes place in just Brooklyn but in Lagos everywhere is a hotspot.
Again, a person will have to wait in Nigeria to become wealthy to live in high brow area to be safe. Living in the so called "high brow area" is not even cheap as you state it, rent for a house in Lekki can go as high as N 800,000 for a self contain, the big question is how many Nigerians can afford it?
It is wiser to live pay check to pay check than to have all the money in Nigeria, and be killed by either a poor health system, unprofessional security operative or any of the inadequacy that dwells in Nigeria beside they will pay tax which will solve most of the problems that bothers average Nigerian.
There are Nigerians in all this countries you called but some Nigerians have their reason for preferring the West above all this other countries, some of which are;
- Right to Freedom of Speech: Aside South Korea, and Brazil every other country you called trample on the right to free speech including Chile.
Also there is nothing wrong in migrating to a country because of their economy, the UAE is getting stronger economically and people are migrating there, so this your point isn't valid.
Your comparison is awful, you compare countries based on their purchasing power and not just saying "it's cheaper to live in Nigeria". Canada/United States is more powerful than Nigeria economically, so the living standards are high. Someone from the United States/Canada who immigrated to Switzerland/Norway will also find the living standards high.
This is a lie most you "stay in Nigeria preachers" peddle and the gullible always believe it without further research/inquiries. If you migrate as an Accountant to the United States/Canada you will work as an Accountant, you may need some certificates to practice there like we have ICAN in Nigeria this is same for every other profession.
Nigeria is on the list of countries with poor/worst ease of doing business and it has been on the list for a longtime and it isn't leaving it soon. Do you know why it makes that list? It's because this no system or structure put in place for business owners. Any Tom, Dick or Harry can claim to be a task force and take money from business owners, and this cycle continues as more of them will come thereby ruining the business.
radautoworks: Buy it. They're safe, reliable and comfortable. Parts are not an issue because unless you buy one that was abused you won't need them. Just routine maintenance
West2019: Death by hanging pls Lagos own done too much
Bro I swear it’s too much and the police are not pro-active. I no Dey waka anyhow again. If 7:00 am no knack, I no dey leave my house go work and by 6:00 pm I don Dey indoors. In fact even one chance bus robbers don too much self I escaped one recently And my colleagues at work get robbed weekly, I’m afraid I could be next.
Personally, I'll rather start with the driving school, infact that will be my first business whenever I'm ready to start. I'll leave you a few points -If you are in Lagos, you will understand that phone accessories business is perfectly elastic(you can't sell higher than your competitors in the already saturated market) though with a lower running cost than driving school. Simply put, in driving school business, you dictate your own price. - A driving school busines leaves you more time for other things as you can schedule your opening time to whenever its convenient for you - You may get to meet and bond with influential people (if you operate it in a classy environment) - Driving school business opens door for other businesses ( Hire driving, Car wash, car sales, car registration service, uber...etc) - You don't need to have a shop or office(from the start). Hence, no fixed cost incurred( All you need is a safe space for your practice cars) - Government and economic policies (like border closure, exchange rate except from fuel pump price) have little or no effect on driving school business.
MODIFIED:
My points are solidly based on economic principles and personal views, I live and work in a high profile area of Lagos and trust me, the oligopolistic driving school market is thriving around me(plenty of kids, housewives and gfs of rich men that are too busy to teach them how to drive will see you as a saviour). The target market and/or market location is all that matters. Conclusively, if the op has access to affluent regions, a driving school business would throw more favourable odds instead of the already saturated phone market.
Omo, I remember that year, when I was awaiting admission into university.....One very hot afternoon, I hopped into my mum’s Mercedes Benz 190 and drove down to a friend’s residence (his dad is now a governor). We(my friend, his two siblings and I) all agreed to go swimming in a standard pool in one of these Nigerian Universities. The shallowest part of the pool was 4 ft while the deepest was 16ft(not for the fainthearted). It was all fun and cool until my friend’s youngest sibling asked me to back him, I granted his request and took him on a piggyback round the shallow parts of the pool. Then all a sudden, I felt a hard kick on my chest from one of the careless swimmers and before I knew it, I already lost control at the 6ft region where I had been enjoyably cruising with the happy boy on my back. I found myself struggling to maintain balance while I got swept towards the deeper parts of the Olympic standard pool with the boy still clinched uncompromisingly to my back. Mehn, I felt too heavy to float (I was just an average swimmer) and I went all the way down. Nobody had noticed my yells for help The boy held on to my neck like his life literally depended on it as I struggled down the heavily waved water towards the 12 ft. As I was about to mumble a few prayers in my thoughts, I saw a professional swimmer coincidentally swam past us and I saw his reaction when he saw two bodies sinking down the slope of the pool. I had swallowed and inhaled enough water by then and the boy on my back was surprisingly not struggling (maybe he fainted ). I was about closing my eyes to see death when I felt a grab on my wrist and before I knew it I was out of the pool and the boy was still tightly holding on to my back. This long story happened within 15 seconds.
