I watched Akpoguma Kevin thrice this season i w say normal defender that play ball a lot on the ground but not spectacular and not better than what we have already in the team.If he switch, good for the team and if he said No,we w not be pained in the future like we are seeing Alaba and Dele Ali today doing it for another country.
I have seen Akpoguma on some few occasions. He is not even better than Awaziem, talk less of Ekong and Balogun.

We worry too much over nothing.

Some people should really stop analysing what they have minimum knowledge of

I was watching one video on YouTube with some dude that 'analyses' football. It was a reaction video to our game against Argentina. Dude knew nobody on our team (not even Mikel, for real?), from his 'analysis' you can tell dude only knows Messi cuz he kept saying how Messi was not in the game. Anyway, he's American, what did I expect?

There was this other chic I watched and I think her followers had more to do with the fact that she has great jugs than her knowledge of football, because once again, I heard nothing. She's swedish

I think I'll just stick to the British pundits next time, at least they have a substantial knowledge of the game
Hahaha. This one happened on live radio:
This set of analysts usually do EPL and La liga analysis on Saturdays. Men those guys are terrible when it comes to naming the Super Eagles players. The one that made me switch of my radio was when they were trying to remember the player that came in for Mikel against Cameroon(Mikel Agu). One of them now said "one Igbo boy like that".

Many of these guys know just little of our national teams.

During the build up to the 2014 WC I had to make my way to one of the popular radio stations in Benin to help them co-anchor the show called "Road to Brazil 2014". It was a daily count down show. The guy in the studio was a young chap and seemed not to know any thing earlier than the 2006 WC and some callers were calling in to make references to 1994 and 98 WC. He was not even conversant with the structure of the Eagles team for that 2014 WC.

The super eagles squad from 1994-1998 was one of the best in the world... Our fan base back then was huge..

Hopefully the current corp of players can do better...
Enroute qualification for France 98, Kenyan fans in Nairobi rushed towards Okocha just to have a closer look and maybe touch him.

That was how loved the generation was.

With the quality we had at France '98 we were supposed to rub shoulders with the top teams in that tournament. I mean, we started by beating Spain and Bulgaria(1994 semifinalist).

this boy gunning to be the second player from 2015 set to break into the Super Eagles. He'll probably do better than Osimhen sef
His development seems to more progressive than that of Osimhen.

That is how youth development is. Some may be average at 17 but later end up bigger than even the MVP and golden boot winner.

In 1997 the CAF Champions League replaced the previous pan-African competition, the African Cup of Champions Clubs; this had run from 1964–1996 From wiki

ASEC Mimosa won the title in 1998 with John Zaki a key player. It was the CAF Champions League.
OK.

So John Zaki was still at ASEC as at 1998?

oga icon this is where you thrive...good to know this from.you especially as regarding ohenhen...I never knew this..
O boy who doesn't like good old memories.

Our youth teams of the 80s were highly talented.

Due to the competition in the national team in the 90s a lot of them couldnt play for Nigeria at the senior level.

Imagine players like Tarila Okoronwanta, Dimeji Lawal, Chris Ohenhen, not being able to break into the team even with their exploits both at youths and club level.

Even the likes of Siasia, Adepoju, Ugbade that managed to break in mostly were not starters.
Alloy Agu and Agbonavbare were also goalkeepers products of that era.

A player like Ohenhen was with the Real Madrid youth team at a stage.

I think John Zaki won the CAF Champions League in the late 90s as a key player for Asec Mimosa. His style then was so similar to Daniel Amokachi.
Yeah. He won a continental title with ASEC. Think it was either the cup winners Cup or the CAF Cup. There was no CAF champions league then.

Isaac Success also plays like him.

FATAI ATERE

In 1985, Nigeria won the first ever FIFA U16 World Cup and there was a certain Fatai Atere on that team who was 14 years old. Two years later, at 16, Fatai Atere played in same World Cup and in three years he had faded out of the game. Atere was just 19 when he quit active football. The Old Matori road was renamed Fatai Atere way in Nov. 1985

FATAI ATERE AND DEMEJI LAWAL
Fatai Atere was not really outstanding.

The outstanding player in that pic was Dimeji Lawal. Formerly Oladimeji Mohammed(at U17).
Dimeji was such an awesome player to watch. He played football, pulled stunts and enjoyed it. And he played with so much confidence.

Dimeji, Osondu and Christopher Nwosu were totally unplayable at the 1987 U17.

Why Dimeji Lawal's career failed to progress is still a mystery to me today. That boy was pure class.

Victor Ikpeba (Prince of Monaco) -

Victor Ikpeba (Prince of Monaco) represented Nigeria at the U-17 World Cup in Saudi’89 and their coach (Sebastian Broderick) said he’s the best player he ever managed. He was part of the Nigerian team that won gold at the summer Olympics in Atlanta’96. He won the Belgian African Footballer of the Year award in 1993 before he would win the CAF Player of the Year award in 1997. He represented Nigeria in four African Cup of Nations (1992, 1994, 2000, 2002) and two World Cups (1994, 1998).
A product of that highly talented 1989 Golden Eaglets team that also had Benedict Akuegbe, Godwin Okpara, and John Zaki. The other players never really made any impacts afterwards. A good number furthered their studies.

Take note: The 1989 FIFA U17 WC was held in Scotland (Scotland '89) and not Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia hosted the U21 WC.

CHRISTOPHER NUSA OHENHEN - Striker

Christopher Nosa Ohenhen popular known as "Ohen-hen", was a Nigerian retired footballer who played as a striker. He spent the vast majority of his professional career in Spain, with Compostela Football career

Born in Benin City on (born 14 October 1970), Ohen began his career at Julius Berger FC, then left at almost 19 for Spain. He had participated at the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship, where his three goals for Nigeria attracted the attention of Real Madrid.

After two years playing solely with the club's reserves Ohenhen moved to SD Compostela, where he scored goals at an impressive rate: in his third year he netted 13 as the Galicians achieved a first-ever La Liga promotion. While at Compostela he was called up to a preliminary Nigerian squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup but did not make the final cut.

After a loan to Turkey's Besiktas JK, Ohen's final years were highly irregular, and he also dealt with injury problems. (source Wiki)
Ohen-hen was synonymous with free-kicks. Our Saudi 89 hero. The initiator of the miracle of Damam.

He never broke into the national team because of the cluster of stars we had then. He was our best free-kick taker until Okocha improved on his in early 2000s.

yes for world cups we have beaten 4 european teams. only south american team we have always faced is argentina. ghana has a good record for the short time they have been to the WC although i think their team that got to the QF in 2010 was abit overrated. i liked their team to 2006 they played some good football. that team definitely deserved to get to quarters
How did the 2006 team deserve to get to the Q/final when they needed to beat Brazil in the 2nd round to get there and they lost 3-0?

Same thing happened when we had kickoff Nigeria and kickoff Ghana. They would leave their boring kickoff Ghana to come and make trouble in our kickoff Nigeria.

What about their 3 prior draws before that? Argentina's last 6 matches equal 2 wins 3 draws and 1 loss.
Those 3 draws have already had their effect on their October ranking.

The results obtained against Russia and Nigerian were responsible for their drop in points for the November rankings.

how did they got to quarter final in 2010...
all their matches I have watched they have always prove difficult for south America teAms and some European power house
They beat Serbia 1-0 (I have modified my earlier post to include Serbia), Lost to Germany and drew with Australia. In the 2nd round they beat USA after extra time and lost on penalties to Uruguay in the Q/final.
Nigeria has a far better record against European oppositions.

you are very right....I don't really fear Germany that much...because they can loose to an Africa power house...I remember Ghana and Algeria almost won them the last time they played...

I fear France,Brazil and Spain more than anything...how i wish Ghana had qualified...they 're good in beating some of this European and south America teams...
Please let's be factual when we say things.

The only European teams Ghana has ever beaten are Serbia and Czech Republic. While they have never beaten any South American team.

But as for Nigeria, for Europe we have beaten: Bulgaria 2X, Greece, Spain, Scotland, France, Bosnia and Luxemburg. While for South America we have beaten Argentina 2X.
