What did they teach you in the classes because you have not yet told us the team selection process you were thought. Hahaha I also coached. Aside handling academy players as my practicals, I once managed an amerture club side. |

Any coach that can not do drills for his team, is that one a coach? Initially you said game time and experience do not matter. Only drills matter. But you have now by yourself brought in game time by saying coaches study video of players in their respective clubs. And experience by saying players can be invited based on past games. Oga, just be humble and accept some things abeg. It will not remove a strand of hair from your body. |

komekn: That is the official stance but the reality is that practice and theory have huge disparities. Again I am talking from a UK perspective.
Drills and attributes in a national team set up have limited value. Essentially because the times you have with these players is very limited before they go back to thier home clubs.
What they do in thier parent clubs, all things being equal is the definitive factor in deciding attributes, ability and capacity not drills in the national team. This comment deserves an award. Well spoken. TheGoodJoe 'reality' is the key word here. |

If Alampasu starts the season as 1st choice in Feirense. I will also be willing to give him a shot. We are down to bare bones in the Gk department and taking a risk with a youngster might yield great rewards. Have you been following Daniel lately? 'If' for Alampasu you said. tbaba1234: I have been a critic of Akpeyi way before the SA game. In fact, I have not even blamed him for the SA loss in any discussion.
Before the Olympics, I rated him as a decent keeper but his shaky displays in the Olympics, against Algeria, Senegal and SA have convinced me that he is not good enough to be number 1 in the national team.
It is not just one display, any keeper can have an off night. His recent displays have been shaky. He consistently mishandles crosses. If he was a young keeper, perhaps we could have made excuses for him.
Emmanuel Daniel during the Olympics qualifiers and sometimes in the Olympics was a lifesaver for the team. He made great saves to keep his team in it. Enyeama has done that for Nigeria.
If Nigeria is under pressure in Yaounde, Can we count on Akpeyi to keep us in the game if necessary.. His recent performances do not suggest that. So who do you think will do better? |

TheGoodJoe: Criteria like if a player has limited time on the bench, you have a selected study of the data to make an even base for the study of the player. It is a systematic study. Also there is reference of past games to see if the player possess the quality expected in a particular role.
That is why before Rohr begun, he could highlight Osimhen and Etebo as players he will look into. But some players never get game time during period of study but get invited. What criterion did they use in that instance? |

TheGoodJoe: No. He starts by studying their tapes. Tapes for clubs and country. After that he makes a report on his preliminary findings. From the findings they circle players of interest with different criteria.
Or, do you think the video analyst sits down idle until the player are in camp? He makes a big part of the scouting and surveillance process. So are we referring to games played at club (GAME TIME)? Different criteria like? |

TheGoodJoe: I guess I have to explain everything. Why do you think Rohr has a video analyst in his technical crew? This is to used a video based monitoring system to screen players too.. There are other systems to select before you come up with those you will invite to camp.
Then those in camp will go through series of drills during the training sessions before you come up with the final list. Does the video analyst go to clubs to monitor those players? Is it not after the players have been invited to camp before any video monitoring will take place? So what are those other systems to select before you come up with those you will invite to camp, as you put it? |

TheGoodJoe: To you it is just parading the boys but to those who followed the session pointed out how players did not meet up to his routines.
So you can keep laughing. Like Chikatara, Isaac Success, Aaron Samuel and Fenan Ardi all limped out of training. And left camp with various degrees of injuries. Segun Oduduwa may never play football again because of Siasia's drills. You think I don't understand what drills are? I laugh. So Rohr will have to go and perform drills for all the super eagles potential invitees before drawing a list of those to invite? You say game time and experience do not matter. I just dey look you. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 9:47pm On Jul 26, 2017 |
TheGoodJoe: It is not just technology. It is about the attributes. The technology just makes picking the attributes easier and more comprehensive.
A good example was when Siasia took over the Super Eagles. He invited a large number of players. First thing he did was stamina drills. Put them on high intensity stamina drills and cut out those who could not meet up.
That shows he needs players who can work hard on the pitch. Those that scaled through will go through another phase. He continues till he gets the best in each role. It is a system. Not just game time or experience. Same Siasia that preferred parading his boys. I can see you were with them during the "drills". |

TheGoodJoe: Hian. Which one is that your saying? I am saying you screen and select players through an indicator based system. You say goes beyond that. If you feel it is beyond that, then you agree it should be there. So what was the laughing about? Your absolute dependence on drills and nothing but drills. That is what is funny. |

TheGoodJoe: While I am shocked that you do not know that coaches drill players for attributes to make selection. Read this excerpt to hhave a brief knowledge of the coaching process. This has to do with the technological addition to accelerate the process and make it more accurate.
Small devices worn on the body monitor key performance metrics such as distance, speed, and heart rate of those who wear it.
Boots record player-specific data with an innovative miCoach Speed Cell chip placed in the cavity of the outsole, which captures 360 degree movements.
Coaches examine data to analyse where players thrive - and where they need to improve.
Note the last line.
Heart-rate, distance, speed, sprints-per-session and durability of players had all been scrutinised in great detail in the build-up to the showdown at the Maracana.
And, due to the delicately-poised nature of the final - it was 0-0 after 88 minutes - Low turned to his bench, saw his personnel and utilised the data he had at his disposal, claims Norman.
Gotze's numbers - he was proved to be more effective during five-on-five sessions - helped Low make the decision to give him the nod.
Germany's backroom staff had done the number crunching. They had scrutinised the data. Gotze could make the difference - and so it proved.

On field decisions made from drill sessions on the training pitch. Please keep laughing. I laugh again. So you think results of such scientific devices are absolute? My brother, selecting players for a match day squad goes way way beyond that. |

TheGoodJoe: Oh God of Israel. What do you think scouting and screening processes is about? There are attributes you look out for and drills to select those that meet these attributes.

TheGoodJoe: So do not select based on young or old. Or based on game time or no game time. Those are sentimental choices. Come up with a strategic indicator system, screen and select the best keepers. The best should mount the goal. Like as if a scientific indicator is tied to every player's head such that as he is being "drilled" he will be scoring points. If age does not matter why then do we have age grade competitions? Let Iheabacho and Co go and play with U17 players and you have to use a "strategic indicator system" to know who would be better. |

goldfish80: I honestly don't believe goalkeeper is our biggest problem. I am more interested in the outfield playing personnel and strategy. I really have sympathy for Akpeyi, its unfortunate people have made up their minds about him and there's no going back for them.
Rohr seems to be the kind of manager who pays attention to psychology, which explained why he dropped Omeruo. I guess the new Gk trainer was brought in to psych up the GKs, especially since Nigerians have opted to run them down for reasons best known to them.
If Akpeyi proves his nerves are made of steel, then he starts. As simple as that.
People clamouring for Emmanuel Daniel are misinformed. That guy have not played competitive football for about 1 year. It will be a joke if the Nff invite an unproven, inactive keeper for our biggest game of the year. And I have repeatedly said it that a good midfield and defense make up for an average goalie. Shorunmu has said it all. But some still no agree. Na dem sabi o. |

Are you seriously trying to make me belive that you haven't witnessed a team conceeding a goal towards the end of a gear while they go in search for an equaliser? The same scenario played out. Dont know why Akepyi is being held responsible.
I wonder why nobody blamed Ikeme for the goal Egypt scored in Kaduna. It was almost the same scenario we had with Mo' Salah. Why didn't Ikeme come out and collect red? Akepyi even managed to come out and challenge but Ikeme sat on his arse.
Unless you guys have a beef outside football with Akpeyi which I don't know about. Its mental to hold him response for that goal. @ your last paragraph. Could remember Vincent enyema back then in enyimba he's not the best back especially penalty area... We have ejide doing us proud abroad and chance we re given to Vincent repeatedly...
Remember 2002 2004 nation cup.. Do you still remember our semi final match against CIV? Where we re beaten by alone goal by CIV goal scored by drogba.. Check the goal and check second goal of SA
Who was in goal At that moment almighty Vincent...
We should stop blaming players we all have bad days
We should remember bravo, and fmr Barça goalie. .. Could not remember his name now... They are have worst moment... What of Joe Hart?
We should psyche them up and believe in them... Yes he's not the best we have but we cant just change the whole team at this moment of the competition cos we need a replacement, that's one of the reason we lost sa match... We should keep inviting everyone to the team...
Everybody keeps giving instance of 2002 world cup... Where young Vincent man the post but we have forgotten that we re out of the competition at that moment... If we qualify Now yes we can experiment with other players but now... We should stick with our warriors...

TheGoodJoe: From reports, Rohr is not satisfied with the goalkeeping department. At least we Ave seen my point on relying on just experience to select a goalkeeper. It is absolutely not a right working pattern.
Rohr also sees the keeper training section do not know what they are doing. Sad Agu got into that position after the bias selection that brought in an amateurish Sunday Oliseh. I wish The sacking axe fell in Agu along with Sunday Oliseh. Glad a foreign goalkeeping trainer is there to help us have a little less of the bias in that section.
And please enough of this experience talk. Select who is better. No body is satisfied. Not even me. |
