But that match was annulled naa... It wasn't counted again as Chad withdrew and destroyed our qualification chances for Afcon 2017
But I believe it may be Salami afterall. Unless.... Ighalo was the top 9 in that game. Salami played as a WF. |

TheSuperNerd: EUROPA LEAGUE STAR NWAKAEME OPEN TO SUPER EAGLES ACTION
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/11/nwakaeme_with_ogu.jpg
Hapoel Be’er Sheva of Israel striker Anthony Nwakaeme has said he is now ready for a call-up to the Super Eagles following his impressive performances both in the Israeli Ligat hA’al and in the Europa League.
Nwakaeme was one of the scorers as Be’er Sheva came from two goals down to beat former European champions Inter Milan 3-2 in the Europa League on Thursday, and as calls for him to be called to the Nigerian national team grows, the 27-year old said he is ready if given the chance.
“Sure, I am ready if I am called to play for the Super Eagles, but the truth is, over the last few years, I have had to concentrate more on my club career,” he said.
“The journalists here in Israel always ask me why I don’t get called to the national team like Nosa Igiebor and John Ogu, but it is always the coach’s call to determine that, but if they call me, I will be available.”
Nwakaeme’s goal against Inter Milan was his first in the Europa League, but he already has six goals in nine games for Be’er Sheva in the Israeli league, and finished as the second top scorer last season with 14 goals.
Source: http://africanfootball.com//news/666852/Europa-League-star-Nwakaeme-open-to-Super-Eagles-action Not that I am writing him off. I am not excited about his prospects. Permit me to say that this Anthony guy, I dnt think he can do better than Ighalo, Ideye or even Kayode. His goal was even from a penalty. What has he achieved that makes him feel he deserves a Super Eagles call up. I would even prefare a Gbolahan Salami. I know some will shout "lets give him a chance". There are better players that deserve that chance. |

safarigirl: Maybe Wenger removed Iwobi just knowing that he would spend the rest of the game trying to redeem himself and it could have terrible consequences.
Sometimes, such things could affect your focus in the game and he's young and not used to such mistakes, in a UCL game at that. Pulling him out was a kinda good call, but I still think he should have waited a few more minutes
Okay, just saw the OG...in Iwobi's defence, it was a reflex action. I understand, if only the wolfish fans would understand too.
Icon4s, do you understand? But y bring me into this discussion. Anyways since I am here let me say something about it. Wenger had already prepared the substitution before the OG was scored. Xhaka was already waiting at the touch line. Iwobi was already at the verge of being substituded. Its nt jst abt the OG. |

TheSuperNerd: MOTM: Victor Moses Voted Man Of The Match In Chelsea Slim Win Over Middlesbrough
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/image-30.jpg
Victor Moses has picked up his second man of the match award for Chelsea this season, after he was voted as the man of the match in their 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.
The Nigerian who was substituted at the tail end of the game was one of the liveliest player on the pitch for Chelsea, tormenting Boro’s left back Fabio at will.
Moses who scored twice for Nigeria during the World Cup 2018 qualifiers tie against Nigeria, which the Super Eagles won 3-1 came close to scoring in the second half, but couldn’t keep his shot down under pressure from Victor Valdes.
Back at Chelsea after three consecutive spells away on loan, he has reinvented himself as a wing back under coach Antonio Conte and has been one of the main reason why they are currently on a six game winning run.

I had preferred him to Sadiq Umar for the Olympics. But as usual Siasia with his teams selections.
As for the Super Eagles let us see him in any of the friendlies. I understand Rohr may invite him for the Egypt friendly in January of which the timing might not be right for our foreign based players.
Kayode is 23 and I believe he belongs to this generation. Lets give him a trial.
However, i am not expecting too much from him. Players like Ighalo and Success would also have flourished in that same Austrian league. cc: forgiveness |

goldfish80: That's a good idea... But really if the Nff want to really promote and develop football, they should be talking about having a well thought out league structure for Premier league feeder teams. It's a shame our Premier league clubs don't have feeder teams, academicies or U19s... Their should be provision for clubs to have academies before being registered in the league and the FA should organise a league structure for these teams.
Another aspect we have neglected for years is the amateur league. Its a pity all kinds of things are allowed to happen to go on in that league. Scandals like team beating each other 72 :0 shows how unserious we are. Most of the guys who have represented us started in the amateur league. Mikel, Onazi, Iheanacho, Elderson , Success etc.. We should keep an eye on what happens in that league. As for NPFL teams having U18/19 they have not finished taking care of the wellfare of the professional/senior team players na to form academies. The problem is 95% of these clubs are managed with govt funds. And u know how it has been with state resources recently. |

goldfish80: The Uruguay boys, I really expected some of them to blow. There was this guy who scored against us Nico Lopez, had a sweet left foot, he was at Roma then. I expected him to really make an impact. He has since dissappeared into oblivion. It happens often. Not all young players progress well. |

goldfish80: Missing the U20 next year is a huge draw back. Very difficult pill to swallow. If the FA had a road map to 2022,that tournament next year would have certainly been captured in their programme /Road map. It's such a pity we missed out on that.
Another aspect that should be considered which should be the final piece is the identity of the manager who will take us there. Like I said earlier, Gernot Rohr is like a guy who will lay a solid foundation for the next man to build on and conquer the world. I hope when his contract expires after Russia, the Nff should be looking towards a younger and tactically astute German within the ages 47-55 to move us further. Someone with the same pressing philosophy of Roger Schmidt of Bayern leverkusen, Thomas Tuchel or Luciano Favre. Germany have an A+ in producing top level managers these days. We should be looking to explore that to our advantage after Russia.
No one should please talk about Salisu Yusuf when Rohr goes. A bitter pill to swallow but we can still do something. We wasted that Korea U19 opportunity bt we can organise a mini tourney next year during d summer season break. The NFF and NPFL can work it out that the NPFL mid-season break coincides with the European end of season. A Super 4 competition with the top 3 NPFL teams wont be a bad one. 3 matches plus a final for the two teams with the highest number of points. With that we can really assess the team and commence a build up for the next U23 qualifiers. My opinion. |

goldfish80: Oh yeah, I forgot Uche Agbo then of Enyimba. A certain Moses Orkunna used to be a handy defender in that team, such a shame he ended up playing his football in Iraq. John Obuh really assembled a great team of talent. Even if the team under achieved, they are certainly proved to be a valuable coveyour belt for the main National team in Little over 2 years.
Even France who won the tournament, their players transition to the Le blue have been stunted unlike Nigeria who left in the Quaters. No player in that French team gave really made the step up. Pogba was already a super star heading to that tournament. Thauvin and Kondogbia have lost their way.. The rest players from that team are still struggling.
We have achieved more than France when it comes to transition to the main team. Yeah. the John Obuh boys. Recall Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo, Ogenyi Onazi, Uche Nwofor, Ramon Azeez also played under him. His boys are not doing badly. Not only the French boys that have fallen short. What of the Uruguayean team dat beat us in that 2nd round game and later lost in the final to France via penalties. That our squad was really talented. Mayb Obuh was nt tactical enough to fully optimise the potentials in that team. |

goldfish80: Exactly, the world cup in Russia should be somewhat of a dress rehearsal for the assault in Qatar. Just like the Germans did, using the 2006/2010 world cup to build a team that went all the way in Brazil.
I so much believe we can go all the way in Qatar. The climatic conditions and the neutrality of the venue (not being in Europe or South America), its a perfect stage for us to grab the thing. Looking forward, I don't know if Gernot Rohr will be the man to lead us to Qatar not because of competence but age(he will be well over 70 in 2022).
I see Rohr as the Moses who will lay a solid foundation for the next man to lead us to the promised land. Yeah true. Not to also forget the 2020 Olympics. Come to think of it. All our players that are currently 19 and below would be elligible. Naming some of them: Musa Yahaya, Taiwo Awoniyi, Ifeanyi Mathew, Chidera Ezeh, Chidozie Awaziem, K.Nwakali, Azubuike Okechukwu, Samuel Chukwueze, Victor Osimhen, Sincere Seth, Sadiq Umar, Nura Abdullahi, John Lazarus, Orji Okonkwo. Some other young players may also emerge before then This was the crop i would have loved to take part in that U19 tourney in Korea. I for see how Ejaria, Solanke, Onomah and co for fit beat Naija. Our eyes and attention should really be focused on this crop as they are getting prepared to break into senior team football for both clubs and country. Though some already have a year experience. They would also be vital for our 2022 WC campaign. This in my opinion should have been our team to next year's U20 WC. |

goldfish80: I don't know if Ighalo and Success would have done better than him but I've watched Kayode from the U17s to the U20. In WYC in held in Turkey, he was our stand out player. Most of his mates from that team are currently in the super Eagles, players like Moses Simon, Wilfred Ndidi, Kingsley Madu, Shehu Abdulahi, Aminu Umar. In 2013 at that tournament, Kayode was a bigger talent and almost propelled the team on his own in that tournament.
One thing I like about Kayode is his competitive spirit, hard work and never say die attitude which have which have seen him get to his current levels. At 16,he left home to sign up at the Asec academy. Not many teenagers will leave home to an unknown African country with language barriers to play football at such age. Even when he had paper issues in Israel, he still didn't drop his head. I give him top marks for his hard work ethics. We need players with such mentality to propel the super eagles in Russia and especially in Qatar where I expect us to capture the trophy. A very talented squad. Abdul Ajagun, Michael Olaitan, Uche Agbo, Usman Mohammed, Johnbosco Amaefule and Emem Uduak were also in that squad. Not to also forget Edafe Egbedi. Ajagun was a very influential captain. terzurum5: AF Nigeria 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon Minister: Govt stop sponsoring Eagles World Cup qualification Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung has sparked off another controversy after he said the government should withdraw its sponsorship of the Super Eagles qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup because it is too expensive.
He said money saved by government from such a withdrawal could be better invested in developing the game, while also arguing that African countries should make the AFCON top priority and not the World Cup.
Dalung made his controversial suggestions on a radio interview with the Voice of America Hausa Service.
He called on the country’s government to withdraw its sponsorship of the Super Eagles on their journey to Russia 2018, stressing that the Nations Cup and not the World Cup should be the priority of all Africa countries including Nigeria.
He said World Cup qualification was money consuming and energy sapping and would rather advise Nigeria and other African countries invest these funds into more meaningful ventures to develop the game at all levels.
The government had to bail out the Super Eagles with a 100 million Naira for them to fly out to Zambia in October.
Nigeria lead their qualifying group with six points after two rounds of matches, ahead of Cameroon (two points), Zambia (a point) and Algeria (a point).
The minister’s latest comments will come as a rude shock to chieftains of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), who have maintained a steady and cordial relationship with the minister in recent times.
Dalung was leader of delegation when the Eagles went, saw and conquered in Ndola against Zambia and he also accompanied Nigerian Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to visit the Eagles in training before the match against Algeria.

His club plays in the Europa league. I watched him frighten Villareal in both legs. The Spaniards couldn't come close to him. Over both legs they won Villareal and drew the return leg. He was terrific in both games. He is not a Super Eagles material. Forget club performance. We have seen him in the Green jerseys enough to know his quality cannot bring him near the Super Eagles so long as Rohr is still in charge. |

joseph1013: Moses' story is very inspiring. I have always rooted for him and keep wondering why he chose to play for Nigeria after the horrors of his parents' death. It's difficult to explain. Perhaps he will explain that side someday. I hope Nigerian fans give him the respect he deserve. He is a true hero and doesn't deserve the flake some fans give him while donning the national colors.
On another note, it makes me sad that so many talents are wasting away here. What if Moses didn't see the good-hearted humans who took him away from Nigeria? He would probably have wasted away, the world would not have a whim of what he can do. The raw skills, the passion and energy on the streets for football is arguably unmatched in the world. I remember a foreign scout saying that the rave of the moment, Dembele is hyped as he sees kids who are better than him on the streets of Nigeria all the time. We're cursed with bad leadership hence the inability to harness these talents. When you have a crackhead like Dalung saying Nigeria cannot win the world cup, how do you expect him to have a plan for world beaters. Nigeria makes me so sad. Moses' parents are alive and live in Benin-City. We know what happened. But lets not debate about it. Lets jst leave it there. |
