TheGoodJoe:
So you feel abandoning the boys and letting their talents waste will jeopardize them more than them making a trip out of the country and playing with professional footballers.
As in eh. We have identified some special talents that are U19 for development. Banking of these U16 boys is like a wild goose chase. |

joseph1013: People are talking of exposure when these defeats are likely to jeopardize the future of the kids. If we has used the U20 boys, at least we would have put up a good performance and scouts could see one or two players to take abroad.
This is too embarrassing. Thank you bro. |

TheGoodJoe:
How can it do more harm to them? This gave the boys chance to play against professionals. You wrote that this is not about winning. The is about giving the next generation exposure and they got it at a high level.
This is impressive for the NFF.
They got to play against the likes of Solanke and Ovie at such young ages. The lessons they learnt that day is more than what they will learn in weeks or even months. Good exposure. Firstly, why it will do more harm than good is the NFF had planned to use this tourney as an early stage of preparation for the 2019 AYC/WYC qualifiers. The NFF is very likely going to disband the team if they continue loosing like this. Most of these players would definitely be axed. If these are the players we will start the 2019 AYC qualifiers with we are heading for another early exit. See, we will continue to fail at the U20 level bc we have continued to underrate the competition at that level and also the importance of that age grade. The U19/U20 is for players that are at the verge of breaking into the senior team. European teams dnt joke with the U19 & U21 competitions as they would want to evaluate players that are getting set to join the seniors. Sincerely for this tourney I would have loved to see the likes of Osimhen, the Nwakali brothers, Awoniyi, Ezeh, Awaziem, Sadiq Umar, Sincere Seth, Lazarus, Nura Abdullahi, Azubuike Okechukwu, Okonkwo, Matthew, Anumudu, Yahaya among others. These players are U19 & we would have loved to see how they are progressing. They are the crop that we are looking at to complete the transition in the Super Eagles. We need to see them play in more competition to assess their readiness The tourney was squeezed into the fifa free window so most of these players would have been available. Rohr would have sent one of coaching staff to monitor the team in training and on match days. You see the team paraded by England? They are young layers being prepared to be capped in the near future. Those our U16 players still have a long way to go. A good number may not end up as pros. We have jst wasted this opportunity on players we are not sure them have anything to offer. |

TheSuperNerd: WASTEFUL NIGERIA U19S WIN TUNE-UP GAME 4-1
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/11/eaglets2016.jpg
Nigeria U19s trounced J1 Academy of Abuja 4-1 in a test game ahead of an invitational tournament in Korea.
The scoreline ought to have been heavier, but for poor finishing by the team led by coach Manu Garba.
Nnamdi Kanu grabbed a brace for the team made up mostly of the Golden Eaglets Class of 2016 who failed to qualify for next year's U17 AFCON in Madagascar.
The team are due to fly out to Korea on Monday and will play their opening game against England on Wednesday.
They will also face the hosts team (Korea) and Iran.
Source: http://africanfootball.com/news/661485/Wasteful-Nigeria-U19s-win-tune-up-game-4-1 I dnt like it when these boys are called U19. They are U16. They were supposed to play U17 next year. So they are still U16. |

Manu Garba-Led Nigeria U19s Suffer 8-1 Loss To England U20s
https://allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/20865Onomah.jpg
The Nigeria U19s suffered the worst ever defeat by a Nigerian youth team when they were battered 8-1 by England U20s in their opening game at the Suwon Continental Cup on Wednesday morning.
The Young Lions opened scoring against the Manu Garba-led side in the 19th minute through Taylor Moore, before a brace from Adam Armstrong and a Dominic Solanke goal put them 4-0 up, but Nigeria managed to pull a goal back nine minutes before the end of the first half.
Two minutes out of intermission, Callum Connolly and Patrick Roberts registered their names on the scorecard for England U20s to increase the lead to 6-1.
Adam Armstrong bagged his hat-trick in the 70th minute and Roberts scored again with two minutes remaining to bring the scoreline to 8-1.
Next up for Nigeria in the competition is a game against Iran before they wrap up group play against hosts South Korea.
Source: http://allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=21017 They understand the importance of an U19 team. See the players they paraded. Our own na to expose players. We should have used this tourney to assess our U20 players since they will not participate in the next WYC. Development starts at U19 & the Europeans know this. They dnt joke with an U19 tourney bc that is where they pick new players for the senior team. |

TheGoodJoe: Very good exposure for the young lads. What is most important is the education from this journey. Very good exposure. Yes u are right. They have been exposed. This is what happens when u go for an U19 tourney with U16 players. With all the exposures and experience Solanke, Onomah, Edjaria and co have gotten they are still part of this tourney bc they see it as a "developmental" opportunity and not jst an exposure opportunity. I always say it that development starts at U19. It is not even about winning the trophy. This tourney is going to do more harm than good to those boys. Una say " age does not matter in football". Ok na. |

Kog45: Good point but u know what i always based my assessment of any team on their last match,my main assessment for Algeria is Zambia match and our major issue is RB and LB,so i don't see any reason for some people calling for Onazi's head.
Yes i quite agreed with u that the team is moving towards a possessive team that we need a DM that can dictate d pace with good passes, hold on to ball just like d way Mikel does it.
I believe by the time we reach that stage,Rohr as a coach w tell us may be Onazi is needed or not but from my own perspective Onazi is d answer to Mikel style of play(vice versa)cos now we have great foot guys in Mikel,Iwobi and Iheanacho(Xavi,Iniesta and Messi)
pls watch Zambia match again and u w understand what am saying, our new IMI(iwobi,Mikel and iheanacho) w destroy any team I purposefully stayed out of that Onazi vs Ndidi argument but i followed it closely. I have argued it in the past and I have my points clear about it. Some1 has even tagged me as 1 that does nt want the young to grow bc i favour more the more established and experienced players especially in the defense and midfield where plenty of experience is needed. Some dnt even want to hear the word "experience". They dnt want a stable team either. Team chemistry is not also important to them. Some have proposed unfamiliar formations to the team and to be experimented in a game as crutial as this. Well, Gernot Rohr is in charge. He has the final say. |

TheGoodJoe: My point is clear. Best finisher stays up front. Although I am impressed with Ideye's passing skills. Nacho upfront. Flanked by Simon and Victor Moses. With Iwobi Behind them. Mikel and Ndidi in midfield.
One word for this, Fiyahh.
................................ Iheanacho (CF) ................................ Iwobi (AMF) S. Moses (LMF)................................. V. Moses (RMF) ......................... Mikel (CMF) ............................... Ndidi (DMF) Is this a prediction of how Rohr will set up the team or how YOU feel the team should be set up. Well, anything is possible. But have it in mind that one of the basic principles of coaching is "You dnt change a winning formation". U can substitute like for like though. Like Ighalo coming in for Ideye and Moses coming in for Simon. I see Iwobi and Iheanacho retaining their roles as against Zambia. Onazi-Mikel partnership is likely to continue. This is Gernot Rohr. If it were Siasia or Oliseh i would have believed that ur formation more. |

Sir BascoVanVeli also endorses Ideye.
Sir Icon4s... What will it be?
Seems everyone is leaning towards Ideye...
Sir TheGoodJoe... U nko?? I know it will be "Nacho upfront" talk... Looolllll
Madam Safarigirl... U nko? Who leads the line for you between Ideye and Ighalo?
note: pls... Anyone is free to answer oooo.... That no.9 role neva sure for anybody right now. I dnt judge players based on club performance alone. What u guys are doing is comparing d two players based on their league performances. The Greek league is no where near the EPL. When Ideye moved to WBA u all saw how he flopped big time. I had also mentioned here that Ighalo is a flash in the pan kind of player. But Ideye had never flashed any pan. The likelihood of Ighalo showing flashes again is higher that of Ideye that has never shown any flashes. Ideye usually lacks confidence each time he wears the green and white jersey and Ighalo is usually under pressure to prove to Nigerians that his exploits at Watford are no flukes. However, based on what each player can bring to the table, I will recommend Ighalo. Ighalo has not been impressive in our colours but Ideye is no any better. Ideye never took a single shot even off target against Zambia something Ighalo is nt known for. Ighalo is more aggressive and takes on defenders. The talk of Ideye being involved in build up play to Iheanacho's goal, Who says Ighalo cannot be involved in build up plays too? Ighalo's capabilities IMO puts him ahead of Ideye. However, Rohr has the final say. Isaac Success should rise to the occassion. His time has come. He is better than Ighalo presently IMO. |

goldfish80: Our forwards will definetly creat changes. Their defence is not exactly world class. However, we must be weary of turning the game into a shooting game. If that be the case, we may be looking at something like a 2=2 draw.
We should be looking at scoring and keeping them from scoring. Daniel Akpeyi is equal to the task. He is tested and trusted. Also a goalies is as good as his defense. I may be alone on this but i dnt have worries about our goal keeping position. |

goldfish80: It's been a week to forget for our defenders. Mainz conceeded 6 in the Europa league with Balogun posting a very low mark overall. Omeruo scored an own goal yesterday. Balogun's error lead to Mainz conceeding their 3rd goal today. Elderson's form is patchy so far this season. Our Right back is unstable.....
I understand the Algerians are happy to know Ikeme will be MIA. Their strategy will be to shoot on sight and trouble whoever will be in goal. Rohr has a lot of decision to make and work to do this week. It doesn't matter. Club is club, national team is national team. we know the capabilities of our defenders. I am not bordered. I also have confidence in the crop of goalies we'll be having in camp. Thank God its a home game. Our opponents are more likely to be on the receiving end. I am more concerned about how our Forwards will combine well upfront to produce the much needed goals. |

My own is Experience has a very important place and will always have that place no matter what (AND THERE'S NOTHING ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT IT) but a perfect balance between Experience and Youth precocity/precociousness is the BEST OF THE COCKTAIL MIX.
Experience alone CAN'T ALWAYS GET THE JOB DONE. That super special and Youthful Individual brilliance and Verve also decide big contests and win wars.
None should be overrated but just given their rightful place as we saw with the Nigerian team of the early and mid 90s.
That's my stance and we must remain open-minded about the experience/Youth mix.

tbaba1234: Where Musa is right now will almost definitely destroy his career. Musa Muhammad should look for a club in Belgium or Holland, even if it is second tier at first and gradually make his way up.If he can't get a good club, come to Nigeria and start again.
I think, many Nigerian players have bad agents.. How does one explain Shehu Abdullah going to Cyprus after a decent olympics or Imoh Ezekiel going to Qatar?
The agents are just after which club offers the highest pay for them and not which club will best serve their client's career goals. At the end of the day, they end up in rubbish places.
A player like Echiejiele has a great agent.. From Braga to Monaco to Liege.. That is what a good agent can do for your career. I got worried when Mohammed signed for that Turkish club. His mates were going to England, Italy, Spain,,Belgium he went to Turkey. My take just like urs is his agent should find him a place in Central or Western Europe or even North Africa. Else he should come back home. |

Enyeama improved Immeasurably after traveling abroad. I remember, he used to be bad at crosses. Many of our local keepers are talented but lack in the technical parts of their game that can only be taught by good coaches. At 2004 AFCON he was still home based. The Nigerian number 1 is usually a foreign based keeper. It is very hard for African keepers to make it in Europe.
If Alampasu can cement a place in Feirense when he returns from loan, then He can certainly be number 1. I laugh at ur last paragraph. I have been in this game for so long to know how most of these things play out. That word "certainly". I repeat Alampasu may never be Eagles number1 goalie. We pray to God to prolong our lives. Before a coach decides to play a youngster, He has seen him for months in training. He can guage him with lower pressure games then hand him a debut.
This is Alampasu first invite under Rohr. The Alampasu may nt even end up as the Super Eagles number 1 goalie. Emmanuel Daniel is even ahead of him. What of Enaholo that benched him at U20. Another keeper may even emerge from the NPFL or Europe. Go back from 1985 Eaglets to recent pasts. How did the goalies end up? None of Rufai, Shoromu, Aloy Agu, Enyeama, Ejide, Ayenugba, Ikeme, Ejide ever played the Golden Eaglets. This thing is not automatic progression. |
