False! You're wrong about that. I will not respect a coach who is turning one of our brightest ever prospects into a 'vegetable'. Kelechi needs to play more regularly.

Was he really that bad? I heard from friends who watched the match that he wasn't impressive.
I hope he puts up a fight till the end of the season before going on loan for 2017/18 season(Man city will not loan their second striker half way through the season this coming January) .
We need him fit and sharp with enough enough playing time leading up to the world cup in June 2018.

He must exercise a loan option next season, else he might risk loosing his place in the starting line-up in Russia.
His handlers must look out for what is in his best interest.
He didn't show the flashes of the Iheanacho we've always known. I remember a particilar duel he had with Moses and Moses beat him hands down with pace.

His losing of the ball when City was in attacking position resulted in the counter attack for Chelsea's 3rd goal.

His first touches were so poor and he often slowed down the attacking play. I have never seen him this bad.

He needs to play another game ASAP to regain confidence.

Sir Joseph1013 hardly ever argues but when he does and it's with NL's finest analyst (for me), Sir TheGoodJoe, It's time to sit down, pick a pop-corn and watch with glee.... grin

................................... On a flip note....

I never deserted the thread. Just needed some time off to do a few things and also wonder why Someone will hate me so much to question my educational portfolio/profile. Why someone cant deal with the fact that A lad like me has a fine future ahead in medicine and science and also finds a keen passion in football and other sports' analysis.

He feels comfortable calling others Doctors and Sirs but just cant bring himself to believe that a kid as privileged as myself has links with Hopkins. I HAVE ALWAYS KNOWN THAT NO MATTER HOW WELL YOU EXCEL OR SUCCEED AT SOMETHING, THERE WILL ALWAYS BE HATERS AND NAY-SAYERS WHO WILL NEVER EVER WANNA SEE THE GOOD IN YOU OR THE RISING GREATNESS IN YOU FOR REASONS BEST KNOWN TO THEM. So it's kinda understandable.

I AM TRULY A VERY BUSY LAD. BUT MY LOVE FOR FOOTBALL AND THE STORY BEING FORGED FOR NIGERIA'S GENERATION NEXT HAS FORCED ME TO ALWAYS TRY CREATE THAT TIME TO POST NEWS AND UPDATES AND ALSO SHARE IN THE DREAM OF THE THREAD AND MANY BEFORE THIS ONE.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, a lot of people dont even know It was I who named this thread. The house gave me that opportunity and I took it upon myself to give it a name that aligns with what's unravelling in Nigerian football.

Sometimes, it is people (a few of them who arent around anymore) on this thread and in previous threads who call me out and ask about my schooling. Should I be overly evasive with their questions? I believe I am in the midst of honest men and ladies and I am a 24+ yrs old youngster.

Why should I hide mine when I already know the profile of Sir Icon4s (his work in the Petrochemical industry or so and his parttime/hobby-like engagements in sports discussions on radio), and Sir Joseph1013 (who I know is an Engineer)?

I created my first thread last year in the Education section about "Your dreams and higher institution targets and more"... It's one of my only 14 topics on NL on my profile. Some of what I do now and some of what my path is about is stated there.

So why the hate? Why the doubts? Cant live with the fact that I am who I am? By the Special Grace of God, I am who I am and nobody can take that away from me even if they hate and curse from today till eternity. That's more than a fact. That's the Truth.

Finally, about Sir Maastricht...... smiley

What can I say? This still gives me the giggles. I still cant believe someone fell for my reply to General03/Generals03.

Just because I wanted to fool the man (General03) by saying, "Yes, you got me, I'm Sir Maastricht", doesnt mean I am.

General03 said something like "you seem to be doing a good job switching between Thesupernerd and Maastricht monikers. I got you now..."

And I went like, "huh??"

He said something else and then an idea came to me and I wanted to fool him with it, so I said, "Okay... Yes... you got me. I am Sir Maastricht" smiley

He (General03) never responded again. Many People saw that conversation. But it seems only one (there may be more) picked it up, stuck it strongly in his memory and waited to unleash it. Loooollll

Waited all this time JUST TO MAKE A FOOL OF HIMSELF? THIS IS WHAT HATRED FOR A YOUNG LAD YOU DONT EVEN KNOW DOES TO YOU. IT MAKES YOU COMMIT BLUNDERS. IT MAKES YOU SAY THINGS WITHOUT PROPER INVESTIGATION ALL because YOU ARE IN A HASTE TO "BRING HIM DOWN" smiley

Everyone here knows how the thing with Yara Yara goes. Loollll

Sir TheGoodJoe was the first to coin the name "Yara Yara" not even me. Then I keyed into TheGoodJoe's joke and that was how every thing about Yara Yara (who I also termed Johnson) began.

I wish sir Maastricht were here to speak for himself. A dude that's probably based in the Netherlands or wherever is now the alt moniker of thesupernerd? I can imagine the shock on his face when he returns to NL (if ever) and sees his mentions and plot cooked up.

IN FINALITY, a couple of monikers here remember my debut on NL sports and why I came in. It was May 23rd leading to May 24th. It was on the New Zealand 2015 Flying Eagles thread.

One of the things that shocked me when I joined was seeing my write-up on the now defunct SL10nigeria posted on that thread by Sir Terzurum5 himself about similarities and differences as regards the Flying Eagles classes of 2005 and 2015.

Why and why will a lad like me seek relevance and popularity on a faceless forum like NL when The Relevance that really matter is out there??

I am working hard and smart and doing my best daily to be the best that I know I can be with respect to my field and beyond and some people think I seek cheap relevance here?? Do you think I dont have dreams to rule the world of science. Why do you think I am at Hopkins? Have you ever asked yourself how a young man from Africa got into a special and "classified" research scholarships program at one of Johns Hopkins' top research learning parastatals/institutes?

I care not for what popularity people seek and think exists on NL... If I wanted popularity and cheap relevance, YOU WILL FIND ME REGULARLY ON THE ROMANCE SECTION. I know how to mix it in with those guys but it's a waste of time because what brought me here was and still is PASSION AND A DREAM.

I have dreams for myself and so far I am on track despite the odds I still face but will surely overcome. But I also have dreams for Nigerian football. Has anyone ever asked why I dont have a foreign side I fan or support so badly??

It's because since the age of 7+ in 1999 since I got introduced to Soccer by my big bro ,who is also on NL but hardly speaks (Profmathsland is his moniker), I have read and researched on the story and history of world football and Nigerian football and discovered that In Nigeria lied a nation who can rule the world of football but just havent been able due to poor administrative organisation and some very silly beareucracy.

It was my big bro, who always had this special knack for keeping records of football events in files, books and newspaper extracts and more, that influenced me so much and helped ignite my passion and followership of the beautiful game.

I am a voracious reader and began reading from the age of 3. The first book I read was the Bible.

By age 5, I was really booming in my reading of the Bible and many other books. By age 9-10, I had finished reading through all magazines and newspapers at home and sought more.

From age 7, I always attacked my mom's library and read and read.

Whenever I was satisfied daily with reading The Bible and other books, I will always move into my big bro's sports archive and begin looking through. Never did I know I will find a world so beautiful and so limitless. The world of Nigerian and international soccer accompanied by plots, subplots, nearly-misses, against all odds-kinda stories and many more.

I saw the glories of Nigerian soccer in the 90's and more and saw our prospects for the future.

No one here have an idea of how attached I am to Nigerian football. I have no club I have ever supported or been crazy about. It has all been about Wanting to see Nigeria achieve in my life-time Glories upon Glories continentally and internationally.

It always gives me great Joy when I think by the time I am at the top of my field, I will also see Nigerian soccer blossoming so bright and so strong on all fronts. This is part of what gives me palpations and excitements yet I am deeply into science and medicine and a bit beyond that too wink

I know it's odd to find a "nerd and bookish one" like me follow football but you must understand that I do so because of something else. I do so because of Information and also to connect the details to how Nigeria can achieve that dream of one day ruling soccer even greater than we did for a short while in the 90s.

Even Sir Joseph1013 himself have wondered at my interest in soccer and how I balance that with my studies..... He's been awed kinda.

To all these I just smile and think to myself, "There are humans in this world with uniqueness. Everyone has theirs. I think this is just one of mine...."

So please.... Sorry for the long epistle but it was necessary in the light of the many people viewing this thread and asking all kinda questions and subconsciously forming hypothetical conclusions in their hearts.

Look, unashamedly, I am David.... TheSupernerd... A rising science star with keen interest in International soccer especially Nigerian soccer. This is why you can find me on any soccer thread be it male or female.... I am that attached to Nigerian football and more.

And this is my way of saying, if you think I need NL for relevance, then I will back off NL because for me the real world has always and will always be out there, the world from where I look into my phone writing/typing all these.

NL is just a 0.00.... With a 1 somewhere after so many zeroes of what life is all about, what life offers and what matters most in life. Why fight so something so mundane as NL RELEVANCE AND POPULARITY when all we do here is just to share passion and make everyone happy?

So please Guys and ladies.... I really need a breather. The fact that I take out time to post news doesnt mean I am not super busy. Actually I am, but there's a way I have trained my brain to be able to switch nicely and effortlessly between two or more different situations. It doesnt really take more than 15 or 20 seconds to post just one news (depending on its length). So I can easily post 20 in a day. That's because I love Nigerian football...... But thing is, I also know I will always be misunderstood. smiley

I will always be the target because of my style of communication.

I will always be the one people wanna talk down when I speak up for myself in the midst of elders and all the while people turning a blind eye to the fact that some of these people I stand up to actually started off a chain of jabs and digs and in some subtle cases, names-calling.

It's all good. People must not like you afterall but one truth remains. I AM WHO I AM BY GOD'S GRACE AND THERE'S NOTHING ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT IT.

Ciao Y'all.... Catch ya next time..... wink

Know that nobody owns ur life and not every1 would like you.

Our personalities outside here is not important but what we have to offer here as sports fans is paramount. You are one of those that add value to this thread and that is what matters.

So shake it off bro. Take insults and jabs with a pinch of salt. You must not reply every mention. And try as much also to assess people's temperament for u to know how to relate with them. For instance, the same comments some see as jabs, jigs or insults are same comments u throw at some1 like forgiveness and he jst grin over it. Not every1 is like him.

Eg also my self and TheGoodJoe have argued heaven and Earth bt we have never called each other names. Not for once. Same with TheGoodJoe vs Goldfish80 jst to name a few.

So try to know ur fellow forumites and know how best to argue with them. Some jst dnt like ur stlye of argument. And that is it.

Dont take it hard on urself or any1 here. We are here for same purpose: The good of Nigerian football.

The growth of Ndidi, I believe is a model for every young player..

Start with a team that gives you the chance to play and improve, then move to a better side. Ndidi is not going to Leicester as a youngster but as an established Pro. If he can have 2-3 solid seasons at leicester, then he can win an even bigger move.

When he gets to a big club, he will be a seasoned Pro.
Not all players will take that path.

Yorubas would say "Ona kan o lo 'ja". Meaning " severall roads lead to the market".

Some players are bound to start from big clubs.

And let me also state here that most of the players Ndidi played with at the 2013 AYC and WYC have also progressed far. Players like Olanrewaju Kayode,Abdul Ajagun,Michael Olaitan, Moses Simon, Usman Aminu, Shehu Abdullahi, Usman Muhammed, Uche Agbo were his team mates who also are nt doing badly. So no be only Ndidi.

Meaning HE IS NOT THERE YET. grin

15 Year Old German Born Whizkid With Nigerian Roots Opts For Eagles Ahead Of Germany And Croatia

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/image-167.jpg

One of the top rated prospects in German youth football set up Midhat Bajric dubbed the new David Alaba has committed his international future to Nigeria.

Born in Germany to a Croatian father and a
German mother with a Nigerian father (a german-Nigerian mother), the Nuremburg central defence kingpin says his parents are in support of his decision to dump Germany and Croatia for Nigeria.

Speaking to an online sports news outlet in
Nigeria FC Naija, the teen who distinguished
himself in a recent game for Nuremburg revealed he followed Nigerian football and footballers closely.

“Yes, that has been my dream; I am white by skin but Nigerian inside. I am a Nigerian, I like to
watch Nigeria football players, like Kelechi
Iheanacho, John Obi Mikel, Ahmed Musa and
others, so many of them. I want to say that I will
be very proud to play for Nigeria and make
Nigerians proud.

”My parents support my choice, though my
parents are no more together but they still
support my dream of playing for Nigeria. I want to visit Abuja and Lagos one day.

“I have been following Nigeria football, recently I watched them in Rio Brazil, I was so proud when they performed well.

“My role model is Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Moses, John Obi Mikel and so many of them I can’t remember their names.”

Leicester City Urged To Make Etebo Top Priority In January As Move For Wilfred Ndidi Stalls Over Price

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/image-134.jpg

Top Israeli scout David Ouziel has urged English
Premier League champions Leicester City to move for Oghenekaro Etebo of CD Feirense in the January transfer window.

Although they are heavily linked with a move for another Nigerian in Wilfred Ndidi of Genk, Ouziel believes the N’golo Kante role which they have failed to cover up since his departure to Chelsea, can be filled by Etebo with ease.

Leicester City who are struggling to agree on a
price for Genk, could get Etebo for a lesser
amount, even though his quality has been proven by his performances in Portugal and for the Nigerian team.

Ouziel who is famed for transferring talented
Nigerian players revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com
during a chat at his recently concluded screening exercise, that three years ago he saw the potential in Etebo, who is reportedly on the wish list of several European teams.

”Three years ago, I predicted that Etebo will be a top star, to me he is the best Nigerian player not playing in a top club. He is top quality and looks like what Leicester City are lacking at the
moment” Ouziel told Owngoalnigeria.com.

”His price will be moderate but he is top quality
and will be a bargain buy for any team that end
up signing him in January, but I so badly wish he move to England, Leicester City precisely”.

Usually, if 4-5 players from an under 17 set make it to the national team, that is a big success. Already Iheanacho, Musa Muhammad and Ndidi are already in the national team set-up. Isaac Success has been unlucky with injuries, otherwise he would be playing. Simon Moses was also a Manu boy. Alampasu is already in the system.

We have others that could potentially be there in the future. Nwakali and Ifeanyi Mathew.
Yahaya and Ezeh are still young.
That is it.

4-5 and maybe a few others if at all.

Most of the players from an 18man U17 squad never play for the senior team.

Ndidi and Mathew were not part of the U17 WC squad.

The thing is a very large percentage of Nigerian youngsters fail to live up to expectation.

Swiss-Nigerian Goalkeeper Osigwe Eyes Super Eagles Spot Following Positive Talks With Rohr

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/image-147.jpg

Swiss born Nigerian shot stopper Sebastian
Osigwe is well in line to challenge the duo of Carl
Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi for the Super Eagles
number one spot.

The 22 year old shot stopper has been contacted by coach Gernot Rohr who has been monitoring the progress of the 22 year old shot stopper who plays for third division side SC Kriens.

A mini goalkeeper crisis that made late call up
Daniel Akpeyi to man the post for Nigeria against Algeria, has made Rohr intensify his search for credible options to forestall a repeat.

Osigwe is first choice at promotion chasing Kriens, and despite representing Switzerland at different age levels, he is keen on playing for Nigeria at senior level, and trained with the U-20s of Nigeria in 2013 during preparations for the World Youth Championship.

Already he has been pencilled down to make his debut for the team in one of the three friendly games lined up for the Super Eagles next year by the Nigeria Football Federation.

You're spot on about Odion Ighalo. I recall Egypt 2009,he played as our top 9 and kept missing sitters after sitters. Much was expected of him in that tournament, so much that he was made the skipper ahead of Lukman Haruna.
I think Ighalo doesn't do well with pressure. When you place the burden of the team on his shoulders he will bottle it. But if he's relieved of pressure, you see a different Ighalo. This could be why he has been devastating when coming as a sub for the SE but when he starts, he has a mental block.

At Watford, nothing was really expected of them, they were the under dog and he thrived in that situation. His problem is psychological, he needs a top notch psychiatrist to blow off the cobwebs in his head, in my opinion.

On other young strikers who are usually discussed here, Oshimhen, Tammy Abraham and the likes . No doubt they are talented but I think we would likely not see the best of them till they peak which usually happens between the ages of 25 - 28. I. Wouldn't really wish they peak so early and get burn out before they get to their mid 20's...
Teams that win world cup and champions league have an average age of 28-29, the reason is simply that players are in their peak physically and mentally at that age.

That is why I've always maintained that Qatar 2022 world cup should be within our grasp because the likes of these youngsters with be 26 - 27/28 yrs old powered by the supporting cast of the likes of Ekong, Onazi, Omeruo, Moses and a few others who should be 30/31.
If I got my mathematics right, with these players peaking at the appropriate age and bearing in mind the average age of past world cup winners, we should be on threshold of winning the world cup.
I agree with ur thinking but only disagree with the age ranges u posted.

For defenders i quite agree. But for strikers, most African strikers peak from their early 20s. By the time they would have crossed 27 they lose steam.

I also agree with u that the 2018WC may jst be our stepping stone to achieving great things at Qatar 2022. The WC is for the big boys. EXPERIENCE counts a lot.

Chief Icon4s, it's without the "e" naa... sad

Anyway, you're right we really need to CF "who delivers".

Don't know what you guys thought of Anichebe's performance yesterday against Liverpool. I think he did good.

We really need a quality 9 and it seems between now and August next year, we are gonna keep rotating from Ighalo to Ideye to Kayode to Anichebe to....... Who again?

I believe the answer in the long run is Victor James Osimhen. With Sadiq as his back-up.

And when I speak of long run, I speak of post-August/Sept 2017.
Sorry abt the 'e'. Slip of fingers.

I have never expected much from Ighalo.

I have followed him since 2009 when he was with Udinese and also played for the Flying Eagles. He turned out average at the WYC of 2009 much to the disappointment of most enthusiasts then.

He resurfaced again with the dream Team V alongside, Oduamadi, Igiebor,Ujah, Raheem and the likes. Oduamadi, Igiebor and Raheem were the stand out performers from that crop. Ighalo flopped again.

Enroute qualification for the 2011 All Africans where they won the first leg 3-1 in Benin, I met the team at the International wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport where they were to board their flight to Accra. Toyin Ibitoye of Channels TV was with them. Among the very few faces of players i could recognise then were those of Oseni, Lukman and Ighalo. I no sabi all them Oduamadi, Igiebor, Ujah by face then.

I personally walked up to Ighalo. I told him "Ighalo the whole of Nigeria is banking on you o".
All he did was to smile and rubbed his hand on his chest meaning "cool temper". I smiled back and went my own way. We lost that game 2-0! and we crashed out.

His rise in profile was so sudden. From my experience, such players turn out to be a flash in the pan. They usually have abt 2 or at most 3yrs of good games thats all.

Brown ideye is not any better.

For now i dnt really consider Anichebe reasons for which u know already. Except things would have changed by now.

Victor Osimhen, I dnt think he can shoulder the responsibility by 2017. He may not likely be our main striker even at the 2018 WC though he 'may' make the squad. He is just abt to start his professional career in January. Lets see him develop and very importantly lets see if he can transfer his U17 performance to the senior level.
If he develops well I see him more post 2018 WC.
2018 WC is abt 18months away. E no far like that o. He is not yet a professional player.

Kayode is hard working. He has always been like that since his U17 days. Let us see him in a friendly. But as i have earlier said i dnt see him as the heir apparent to that Position.

I would want us to also try Isaac Success as a CF in the march friendly. He is already more deadly than Ighalo at Watford. I see him as a better prospect in the nearest future.

We put too much stress on strikers, being a striker is not only about goals. Our biggest problem is that we have so many and so when one doesn't score we are so ready to replace.
After that Chad game several games have followed. Yet nothing.

We have been very patient with Ighalo until our last game.

The thing is we are lacking quality in that department.
