Our qualifiers problem started when Coach Oliseh could not win Tanzania. Coach Siasia's approach in the last game was wrong but the players played with better purpose and drive.
Yeah. Right bro.

safarigirl:
I've read many times from different people that the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles suffer from a lack of 'quality' players. The team have been accused of having sub-standard players who never play their best in the Nigerian colours and I used to believe that.

I believed it so much, I advocated a total overhauling of the team- get in new guys, young blood with heart and mettle. People who are ready to lay it down for the green white green. That should work, right?

Fast forward today, and after watching our dismal outing in Egypt as well as prvious failures in the last U20 world Cup, I've come to the realistic conclusion that the problem with the team is the managers and administrators.

Yes, the National team coaches and their egos/sentiments have ruined us more times than I can remember. Was it Manu Garba in U20, dropping lethal Iheanacho, Simon Moses and Nwakali against Germany, for non-lethal guys? What of Keshi who kept on throwing in Yobo even when he was past his prime? Or Samson Siasia fielding the likes of Aminu Umar and directionless Musa against Egypt in a must-win game, while our best players in KD; Iheanacho, Iwobi and Simon Moses were on the bench? The same Siasia playing Ighalo- someone who can only function with a strike partner as a lone striker? What happened to Fernando Adi? A smart coach builds his team according to the strength(s) of his forward(s), you don't just throw a man into a line-up and hope he can pull a rabbit out his arse in 90 minutes

Some might say, don't blame the coach, but someone is responsible for Leicester topping the EPL with the SAME players they had when they were fighting relegation, and who is that? Did Egypt have better players than us as far as pedigree? Would the right coach have made a difference with the right team selection? By all means yes.

Those advocating for the foreign players, the Jordon Ibes, Delle Allis and Ross Barkley, what are the guarantees they still won't be overlooked by a local coach for some Festus Kingsley from NPFL or U23 when it matters? After all, Iwobi had to wait till 15 minutes to the end of the game to show his mettle despite his strong display in Kaduna. So, I can imagine your coaches would even bench CR7 if he could play for Nigeria. Why?

This is not to absolve the incompetent NFF of course, because they are majorly to blame for our instability. With their gross disregard and disrespect for local coaches and their constant failure to keep to contractual terms, NFF have continually chased away decent local coaches with disastrous results. Even those advocating to retain Siasia, do you think the same fate that met Oliseh and Keshi won't meet him? You think NFF will pay his salary? You think they won't override his decisions to slot in their favourites?

Unfortunately, until we rid the football body of those cancerous elements that have eaten deep into the system, we cannot expect any form of miracle on the pitch or from the same set of rotten coaches. The popular saying comes to play that even if you put make-up on a pig, a pig is still a pig.

As I type this, I have lost any form of hope of us qualifying for any tournament, even if we do, there are no long term solutions to our football woes, because even when it seems like we're making headway, something or someone always combusts. Even the foreign coaches will leave because of NFF and their shady ways.

We have all the talent we need, more talent than the likes of Netherlands, England, Algeria, CIV....we have a golden generation in our hands, boys who have it in them to break the records of Yekini, JJ Okocha, Kanu and Finidi George, but poor management and a corrupt administration will kill those talents every generation we get to.

I have read every comment here thus far and everybody is on point.

Nigeria's football problems go way beyond the ones you pointed out. They jst too numerous. However, I will jst site a few and provide some workable solutions.

The true problems of Nigerian football is deep rooted. On of such spans from the administrative angle. The administrators keep saying we need to rebuild, we need to rebuild. We have been chanting that slogan since after our 1998 World cup exit. But do they have a blue print on how to rebuild the national team? I DOUBT.

I am a professional in my field and I know the number of hours I put into analyses, dissecting of problems and providing solutions on daily basis. Now the question is what do those NFF officials do on day to day basis? Nigeria may nt be involved in any football matches for the next couple of months, so what will those at that glass house be doing during this period? How often do the Technical committee meet?

I was once engaged on an argument with a forumite on the ability of this NFF board to effectively manage the transition of the young players being churned out from our highly successful youths system. My point of view was "with the way football is still run we may never achieve that golden generation". The issue of same chemical reaction with same concentration of chemicals giving same products and issue of whether introducing a different reageant would give a different product comes to mind. I wont mention moniker he knows himself.

I can bet most of you guys here are far better analysts than most guys in the NFF. I have interacted with a good number of them so I know what I am talking about.

The NFF jst like all other institution is currently being affected by cash crunch. Gone were the days when president Sani Abacha would single handedly pay the Super Eagles. Football is nt on the priority list of this present government. So the state of the economy is also having a negative impact on the Super Eagles. THE NFF CAN ONLY AFFORD TO PAY A NIGERIAN COACH FOR NOW. YES. Except they would want to go for one low class "oyinbo" coach from Bosnia or Macedonia.

In my opinion Siasia did a good job in the way he built that team. For a long time we've never had a Super Eagles Team who are so imposing on the game as the crop that played the last two games. As some1 rightly said had Oboabona not fallen to d ground holding his stomach, and had Ikeme thrown the ball out in a safer position Nigeria would have won that game Because Egyptians were nt really posing any major threats at that pt in the game. There reaction showed they had given up and were already thinking of hitting us back in the return game.

My problem with Siasia is majorly the same problem I had with Keshi: CHOICE OF PLAYERS! I need nt say much abt it cos u guys know what happened in the 2 matches. You have all said it all.And I totally agree he goofed in that area. He has started displaying such tendencies too in the U23 Team. We are just watching.
By and large, I still feel he is the best "available option" for us now.

Talking about the transition of young players from the junior teams to the Super Eagles. This is a very critical aspect of our rebuilding process. In fact it is the most important. I suggest the NFF should set up a special committee team that would be mandated to work closely with the Super Eagles coaches. This Team should be different from the NFF technical committee. It could be in a form of 'The NFF Technical study group'. They would study the progress of all Nigerian players both home and abroad born and gradually integrate them from the U20s, U23s and Super Eagles. Which will also include pushing for change in Nationality. Algeria did that and see where they are today.
As someone here rightly said, the transformation into a new Super Eagles Team should be a natural process. The players should grow into the Team. If I am nt mistaking 7/8 prospective U23 members were involved in the Egypt tie. And I would say thumbs up to all of them. And I think they have come to stay in the Super Eagles. I expect the U23 defenders to now fully take over the Super Eagles defense . Younger players who are still U20 should also be gradually integrated as they progress based on merit devoid of sentiments.

I posted a comment yesterday about the 'New Era' of Nigerian football.
That New Era is here and this is good news I will say.
But whether this would be a Golden Generation? It is left with the NFF.

Did I say Iwobi was not our best AMF. When I made my list, Did I not put Iwobi there?

We are talking of a striker who is most creative in the Super Eagles. Please tell me the attacker in the Super Eagles who pass better than Iheanacho.

If Egypt were not a goal down in Kaduna, Aminu will not have that space. Leave saying I am sentimental to Nacho and let us look at the facts.

In a compact and rigid Egyptian defence, Aminu is the wrong partner for Ighalo.

Iheanacho still contributed more to the team winning at Kaduna. He was our best forward that day. He contributed more direct shots.

How many direct shots did Aminu have in both games?
When I mentioned Iwobi I was nt relating it to what u said or what u did nt say. I just made mentioned that he is our best AM option for now.

If u say Aminu found space bc we were a goal up and the Egyptians pushed forward to equalize why didn't you say same for Victor Moses who also found space severally when we were a goal up. Jst because the argument is Aminu vs Iheanacho you must coming up that to defend Iheanacho. Because he is your favourite u cannot see anything wrong with his game.

TheGoodJoe:

You are mixing direct play as impact. When you guys hailed Aminu, I just shook my head because you guys missed a big fact

The Egyptians were looking for an Equalizer. They pushed forward and had gaps at their back. So Aminu had the space to look good.

Unlike Iheanacho who dealt with a compact defence. He had to drop deep a lot of time to make the team tick.

Today, Aminu's impact was not there and there was no one to make the connection between the midfield and attack. That is whe we looked stronger when Iwobi came on.
Something that was very obvious? Aminu brought more fluidity in the middle and combined better with the attackers. The Egyptians even when 1goal down still maintained there shape and didn't really pose much attacking threat.
Iheanacho was mostly lost in the game. The only 2/3 times he was really noticed were when once or twice he came back to d midfield to pick the ball and then when he rattled d upright.

If you saw my prefered starting 11, i put him(Iheanacho) as the lone CF cos i know his development has shifted more towards d striker's position and less of the AM position. Iwobi is our best AM player right now and he has made a big claim to d starting line up for d Olympics.

The thing with you my friend TheGoodJoe is anything that involves Iheanacho u are always too sentimental. And that usually affects ur sense of judgement. To u he can never do anything wrong. The other players are Nigerians too.

Experimenting players at this crucial stage is unacceptable. How can you bring a winger to play as an attacking midfielder just because you want to include him in the team to make ego?

Aminu Umar plays as a winger in his club.
This is modern football. Iwobi started as a winger at Arsenal. He was experimented as an AM in an FA Cup game and it worked. Etebo and Iheanacho can also play both as wingers and as AMs plus Etebo can play as CM.

Most CF/Strikers can also play as wingers eg Ahmed Musa.

So nothing wrong with that.

Ladies ad gentlemen, it's official, there is fire on the mountain: Super Eagles failed to qualify for Nations Cup three times in 4 consecutive editions.

This is the same Nations Cup in which qualification was never our issue, the same Nations Cup that semi final (minimum) was our birthright.

Here we go again. Eagles faltered on big occasion.

Anyway, I still struggled to rate the players.

1. AKPEYI: Did well, especially in aerial balls, stopping a couple of goal-bound shots, but he could have done better in that goal, although he expected the defenders to be able to intercept that ball. But for that goal, had a good game. 5.5/10

2. ABDULLAHI: Not sure he is a Super Eagles material - at least yet. Didn't add much to the game. Faltered a couple of times. No sensible crosses or play with winger as expected of a full back. Alongside Ambrose, failed to intercept the ball that got into the net eventually. 3/10

3. AMUZIE: Again, struggled with Salah's speed. Also doesn't look like Super Eagles' material yet. 3/10

4. AMBROSE: Once again, failed to live to expectation as one that plays for a decent European club. Weak, defensively; poor link with midfield. 3/10

5. OBOABONA: Not seen much. Appeared to have lost confidence. Struggled with Egyptian forward. Poor clearing. 3/10
this ur ratings are too harsh abeg. Jst as if d boys didnt play any thing.

Okay 1 Foreign coach who messed up vs 3 Indigenous coaches who messed up. Tell me something else...

What was Aminu doing on that field today, tell me. Iwobi is good enough to start against Barcelona, but not good enough for Egypt. Iheanacho rattled the bar in the first leg but was not even qualified to warm up today. Is that merit?
To tell d truth in dat first leg Aminu as AM/SS made more impact than Iheanacho. The only highlight of Iheanacho's game was d rattling of d wood work which is d only thing every1 here seems to b hinging on. So i would nt fault Siasia's choice of Aminu starting d AM position today.

I would personally have played Iheanacho at a more forward role with Iwobi behind him.

Siasia did nt trust d abilities of d young forwards bt ironically trusted d abilities of a young defender. I would have done d reverse if I was in dat position.

I stand with Icon4s, Siasia should fully take over of the Super Eagles after the Olympic.
He's the one to lead the Super Eagles to where we honorably belong in the World of Footie!

That is it my people.

All along I knew Nigeria were nt likely to win in Alexandria. Our chance was d game in Kaduna bt due to naivety we blew that chance.

The boys gave a good account of themselves.

Ambrose, Echiejile and Obaobona may likely b waving goodbye to d national tean. You guys tried, atleast u won us an AFCON trophy.
If we must carry Balogun along going forward, we have to include him as one of d over aged players going to Rio so d defense can b built around him due to his depth of experience.

We would be looking at d team going to Rio from which to select our next generation of defenders.

Onazi, Mikel, Moses, Musa and Oghalo may still b relevant in d New team bt they have to up their games as players like Etebo, Azubuike, Simon, Iwobi, Iheanacho, Umar etc are on d ascendency.
Not also forgetting d likes of Success and Ezekiel among others.

A new number 10 has emerged. He was d only player that went to Alexandria with d key to unlock d Egyptian defense. Ighalo became more threatening when he came in.
Alex Chuka Iwobi is our new number 10.
I was of d opinion dat he started d game. Bt na Siasia sabi o.

Shake it off patriots the future is bright for our football.

Siasia should b retained after d Olympics as d Super Eagles coach. Amuneke goes to handle his U20 team. We move on.

I see Tonight as a critical Night in the history of Nigeria football.
The cloud is gathering.

Some thing may just happen tonight.

TONIGHT MIGHT JUST MARK THE END OF AN ERA WHICH WILL PAVE WAY FOR A NEW ERA-some call it "THE GOLDEN GENERATION".

We lose tonight and that is it. We may just see the last of so many senior members of the team. I dnt want to mention names. We know most of them.

We win tonight and the birth of that New Era is postponed to a later "dooms" day. Yes dooms Day. That dooms day will surely come.

So patriots as we watch tonight's game know that as it is do or die for the Super Eagles players whose national Team future lie on the outcome of that game, it is not do or die for us supporters. The 2018 WC qualifiers are after the Olympics so we build the New Super Eagles from the Olympics of which seven playerd already featured in that first leg against Egypt.

I see tonight as a win-win for us.

So Patriots , I know tensions are high but remember it would be a win-win situation for us.

NIGERIAN FOOTBALL IS PREGNANT. SHE MAY FALL INTO LABOUR TONIGHT AND GIVE BIRTH TO THE NEW ERA. SHE MAY FALL INTO THAT SAME LABOUR IN ANOTHER NOT TOO DISTANT TIME.

I have chosen to watch tonight's game under no form of panic or tension cos as I said:
IT IS WIN-WIN FOR US.

Can Chelsea loanee Victor Moses knock out Egypt?
[/size]
https://africanfootball.com//bp_images/2016/03/Samm_28_Mar_3.jpg
Victor Moses heads for goal against Egypt in Kaduna in the 84th minute after he has beaten the goalkeeper before his effort is cleared off the goalline

by Samm Audu

In the bible, Moses liberated oppressed Israelites from Egypt and tonight his namesake Victor Moses could do likewise for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in tonight’s AFCON 2017 decider in Alexandria.

The present-day Moses was a shock omission to the Eagles start list on Friday in Kaduna as coach Samson Siasia preferred Gent winger Moses Simon, who went to justify the confidence of the coach with a terrific display.

Chelsea loanee Moses could even have made the difference in Kaduna had he put away a glorious chance in the 84th minute, when he rounded up goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawi but his shot was cleared on the goalline by Hamada Tolba.

“It was almost a goal,” rued Siasia.

Moses himself promised he will be a lot more ruthless in front of goal in Egypt.

“Unfortunately we did not win at home. I did not see the (Nigeria) player who was behind me, but next time, I will make better use of my opportunity,” he vowed.

“We will make Nigeria proud.”

Besides the missed chance, he was lively for the short time he was on the pitch and he carved open the static Egypt defence with his dribble runs and vision.

It was like the Victor Moses at AFCON 2013, when he and Brown Ideye combined to crown Emmanuel Emenike goal king of the tournament.

Suggestions are now that he starts ahead of Ahmed Musa with Friday’s man of the match Oghenekaro Etebo playing a more offensive role to allow Lazio ace Ogenyi Onazi, fresh from a three-match suspension, partner Mikel Obi in defensive midfield.

Such a combination could thus provide the quality service which Odion Ighalo needs for him to deliver in Alexandria.

Kick-off time is 6pm Nigerian time at the Borg El-Arab Stadium.

People have a right to their own opinions. I personally do not argue every comment made by a forumite. Some times u let go and respect the persons opinion especially when it is backed up with facts.

I can keep quite over an opinion that player A is better than Player B if it is backed with facts. I mean real technical facts.
Not reasons like because player A was born and raised in England or plays in Europe then he is automatically better than player B who still plays in the NPFL. I find it difficult overlooking such an opinion.

Go back and look at the reasons chrisooblog gave for regarding Imoh Ezekiel as average. They are valid facts. Even though I may not completely agree with his conclusion I would want to give him that benefit of doubt and personally want to go quiet on that one and allow Imoh to prove chrisooblog wrong.

The national Supreme Administrative Court has ordered the dissolution of the Egyptian Football Association’s board of directors.Ahmed El-Shazly, head of the Supreme Administrative Court, issued a ruling that requires the dissolution of the EFA. This occured as a result of a complaint issued by Dr. Magda El Helbawi and Hermas Radwan, former candidates in the EFA elections, regarding the invalidity of the elections held in 2012.

The new elections are expected to be held next September, and Tharwat Sweilam is expected to be an interim president for the remaining five months. Current president Gamal Allam has warned that the FA will take the legal route, and that it will probably lodge a complaint with FIFA for ‘government interference in football’.

Minister of Youth and Sports Khaled Abdel-Aziz has revealed that the ruling will not be effective until after the African Cup of Nations qualifier match against Nigeria on Tuesday.

“We will wait until the Nigeria match is played, and then we will evaluate the situation; we are doing this to protect Egyptian football from sanctions due to of government interference,” he expressed.

Who said Imoh is nt good enough for d U23s?

Chad have withdrawn from the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group G, which comprises Egypt, Nigeria and Tanzania.

The African minnows cited financial difficulties for their surprise decision to pull out of the qualifications, leaving Group G with only three teams.

The withdrawal means that Chad's group results will be nullified, with leaders Egypt – who initially thrashed the outsiders 5-1 away from home – now on four points instead of seven.

Second-placed Nigeria have been deducted three points as well following their 2-0 victory over Chad, with the Super Eagles now on two points. Tanzania are also on two.

Egypt host Nigeria on Tuesday at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, as a win for the Pharaohs would put them on the brink of qualification for the 2017 finals in Gabon.

No wahala. D 2 2nd best would now be chosen from the matches involving d top 3 teams of each grp.

Dnt mind those uninformed NFF officials that say it now means only one team will qualify from our grp. Most of them dnt even know d CAF rules.
