tbaba1234: A loss may actually be good for us. It will help the coach decide which players are not good enough. Right now, let the weaknesses be exposed.
I understand the writer. Many of the players in the list have not yet played senior level football. Under 23 is the closest to the national team. Lack of professionalism will be exposed.
it is best to have players with league experience. When we won the olympics, many of our players were seasoned pros.
It would have been good to invite Awaziem, Ndidi and Success because they are obviously ahead of many of the players on the list. Bros, my pt is even with d experimental squad, i dnt blieve we will b thrashed. And I thank God u are seeing it in the light of experience and professionalism. I have always maintained that Olympic football is very close to senior team football. Usually 2 yrs after d Olympics 50-70% of d players would have graduated into d senior team. by Samm Audu
Nigeria could well be preparing for an embarrassing spanking by Brazil in a pre-Olympics warm-up on Thursday going by the experimental squad named for the friendly.
As much as this is a friendly, it is not a jamboree with half of the 20-man squad for the high-profile match-up being players who have yet to feature for the country’s U23 team – Godswill Ekpolo, Musa Mohammed, Ubong Ekpai, Agboyi Ovbokha, Nathan Oduwa, Iyayi Believe, Sodiq Popoola, Imoh Ezekiel, Theophilus Solomon and Saturday Kaego.
Coach Samson Siasia has said he wishes to run the rule on as many players as possible so as to get the best squad to represent Nigeria at the Rio Olympics in August.
However, the quality and current form of some of these “trialists” beg for more questions than answers.
While Brazil have picked a formidable squad who include Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira, Barcelona ace Rafinha Alcantara and Felipe Anderson from Lazio, Nigeria prefer to gamble on the likes of Barcelona ‘B’ teamer Ekpolo; Popoola, who failed to make the grade at French second division side FC Metz, and former Flying Eagles midfielder Ovbokha, who is now languishing in Slovenia.
The midfield of Dream Team VI is very much lightweight with Stanley Dimgba and Ubong Ekpai the only genuine call-ups.
Wilfred Ndidi (Genk, Belgium), Uche Agbo (Granada, Spain), Obinna Nwobodo (Enugu Rangers) and Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali (Golden Eaglets Class of 2015) ought to be some of the players within the age bracket who should have been also considered.
Anderlecht striker Imoh Ezekiel is the only quality addition to a strike force of Junior Ajayi, Taiwo Awoniyi and Victor Osimhen.
Granada striker Isaac Success despite his exploits in La Liga this season and Sadiq Umar of AS Roma have been surprisingly overlooked.
It is equally baffling to believe that the all-knowing, all-powerful technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) would have approved this selection of players who are doomed to disgrace the country in Brazil.
The full squad: Goalkeepers: Emmanuel Daniel, Yusuf Mohammed
Defenders: Sincere Seth, Segun Oduduwa, Chizoba Amaefule, Ndifreke Effiong, Musa Mohammed, Godswill Ekpolo, Saturday Kaego
Midfielders: Stanley Dimgba, Ubong Ekpai, Agboyi Ovbokha, Nathan Oduwa, Iyayi Believe, Sodiq Popoola
Forwards: Victor Osimhen, Junior Ajayi, Taiwo Awoniyi, Imoh Ezekiel, Theophilous Solomon africanfootball.com/news/620129/Experimental-Nigeria-U23s-doomed-for-Brazil-thrashing I completely disagree with this article. They boys may eventually nt win the game but I dnt envisage any emabarassing defeat. Nigeria are no pushovers at this age grade level. I trust d boys that have been selected to do well. We may even win it. |

Seattle Sounders Defender Jnohope Will Not Reject https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/74933Tobi.jpg Seattle Sounders youngster Tobi Jnohope has revealed that he will not reject a call-up to any of the Nigeria youth teams, though he is undecided where his international future lies at the moment.
The teenager was born in Florida 18 years ago to a Caribbean father and a Nigerian mom, meaning he can represent the United States, Nigeria and The Caribbean internationally.
“Right now I have not been called up to the United States, if I was called up to either one I would go. My dad has left the choice to me, ” said Tobi Jnohope, who is a defender, told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“I’m very good with the ball and I’m athletic. I also am really good at winning headers.
“This is my first year with the Sounders and I played for a club in Florida before Sounders.”
The Nigerian-American has stated the reason why he models his game after Bayern Munich versatile defender Jerome Boateng.
“I model my game after Jerome Boateng. He’s composed on the ball, great in the air, and is a presence on the field,” added Jnohope.
Tobi Jnohope will play play collegiate soccer for University of Denver in 2016.

Daninya11: Sir, Oboabona and Ambrose are good defenders but ....of late they have been performing below par. The game against Egypt is a must win match where there will be no rooms for silly mistakes or we get punished..
Any new kid on the block who could effectively pair Balogun in the heart of defense.
I must confess I am not comfortable seeing the likes of Ambrose, Oboabona and Shehu Abdullahi in defense. They are seem jittery and easily prone to errors and poor decision.
I am not comfortable with the defense.
My fears.. The defensive line-up particulary a centre back pair is the mpst critical department of a team. Yeah we need to see the new kids in d block coming up to take positions in d team. Bt not in this crutial game. As i said d CB pairing is highly critical which is why i dnt see Siasia. experimenting with a new kid in d block in d CB. Obaobona and Ambrose are well tested and experienced defenders hu i feel can rise to d occassion without jitters. Shehu abdullahi may b a weak pt which is y I would prefare Balogun starts from Right back. The silly mistakes u talk abt would more likely occur if u throw in a debutant their. And U may feel Ambrose and Obaobona are bellow par bt d d depth of eexperience dey have at this level will count for much.Good Defensive play has a lot to do with co-ordination and understanding. These guys have been together for close to 4/5 yrs. I blieve they can form dat formidable pair. With a defensive pairing of: Balogun..Ambrose..Obaobona..Echiejile we are ready for Egypt. |

Daninya11: There are untested professional defenders round the globe who could also impress if given the chance.
It is left for Siasia to send out invitations to this players ASAP..
Nairaland is a well known and read forum. I believe it's was because of the clamoring from sports fan in this forum that lead to the invitation of Leon Balogun who was earlier left out of the Eagles squad by Siasia.
Please feel free to suggest players who could be possible replacement for the injured players..
Icon4s, Robosky, TheSuperNerd etc. Your attention is needed in this thread. Omeruo's injury is saddening bt that does nt spell doom for Nigeria as Balogun, Obaobona and Ambrose are all Centre back options. Any two of those three can form a Centre back pair. I wish Omeruo speedily recovery. We need him in the heart of the defense for Rio Olympics. |

tbaba1234: North Korea was one of the worst team in the tournament.
The argument then was that Yahaya and Iheanacho were not tracking back. We then sacrificed our attacking vibrancy for defensive solidity using hard workers. We failed to find a balance.
It cost us.
In the first half of the Brazil game, Nigeria played very well and matched Brazil because we had the best players. We lost.
Against Germany, we were outplayed throughout the game. U get my point. Manu prefered players with defensive abilities. Against Brazil we played more or less a 4-2-4 formation as Yahaya and Iheanacho who were fielded as midfielders drifted more into attacking positions and nt tracking back to support Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Ifeanyi Mathew in d midfield when d need arose..Awoniyi was virtially left with nt much responsibilties as Sucsess, Iheanacho and Yahaya were all actively involved in d attacling business. Success and Yahaya scored a goal each while Iheanacho hit d cross-bar. The 2 Ifeanyis were left alone to contain d rampaging Brazilians after Nigeria went 2-1 up. The defence was put under pressure and d team conceded 3goals in succession. In d Second game Manu brought in Bulbwa, Savior & Sokari hu are more natural midfielders and also with better defensive abilities than Yahaya and Iheanacho. The team switched to 4-5-1 as Success also got relegated to s bench. The switch paid off as d team won 4-1 against North Korea. Manu maintained that same shape in d next game against Hungary and we won 2-0. No normal thinking coach would want to change d composition of d team dat has produced such results. U DNT CHANGE A WINNING TEAM.That was y he maintaind dat same formation against Germany. We lost 1-0. I believe We still could have lost even if we started Yahaya, Iheanacho and Success. Mayb d result could have been like 3-1, 4-1 or 4-2. We were no match for d Germans. Those Manu boys better work hard and raise their games both at club level and at d national teams to b able to compete favorably with d host of Nigerian young talents springing up from different leagues in d world. |

NLban: https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Siasia21.jpgIt is important for Siasia and whoever is working with him to realise that if the Eagles get that win in Kaduna, there is no need to go gung-ho in Alexandria in the chase for three more points. One would do, all three would be a massive bonus.
Even if the Eagles are only able to take three points from the two games, two wins against Chad and Tanzania should do the trick as Nigeria would end the campaign with 13 points, which should make them the best group runners-up and earn them a place in Gabon 2017.
The most important thing is to beat Egypt in Kaduna and, under no circumstances, drop any points against Chad and Tanzania. It’s simple arithmetic, really.
IWOBI, IHEANACHO LEAD EAGLES GENERATION NEXT Alex Iwobi seemed to be a strange inclusion in Arsenal’s starting XI for the Champions League tie at Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Some of us were scared that the Nigerian youngster would get swallowed by the intimidating Camp Nou atmosphere and the quality of the opposition. But the 19-year-old, given the nod ahead of England international Theo Walcott, acquitted himself quite well even as Arsenal predictably got beaten.
Iwobi was so good there is a good argument for him as Arsenal’s best player on the night. He went toe-to-toe with Lionel Messi and his superstar colleagues and showed no signs of being affected by the occasion.
In fact, you went away with the feeling that if Arsenal had three or four players like Iwobi on the night, they might have put up more of a fight. They would still have lost, but still.
Iwobi oozes quality, has the ability to take on defenders, has an eye for a brilliant pass and is not afraid to shoot.
In the youngster, a nephew of the legendary Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nigeria have found a gem. But there are also a few others like him.
Obviously, Kelechi Iheanacho’s qualities have been highlighted enough.
Then there is the Roma teenager Umar Sadiq, who has already scored in Serie A at such a tender age.
Isaac Success is already a La Liga regular and he is so good that he will probably no go down with Granada if they get relegated.
Victor Osimhen showed his enormous potential at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup where he broke all the scoring records. This time next year he will be turning out for Wolsfburg in the Bundesliga.
Chisom Chikatara, Dele Alampasu and the 19-year-old Porto defender , Chidozie Awaziem, who has been a revelation in their senior squad since January, are all young Nigerian players with plenty of promise.
Nigeria’s talent pool has dried up a bit in the past few years, but these bright young players plus plenty of others in the Nigeria Professional Football League have given us hope that a fresh supply of water is not far off.
The future is not looking bad, especially if the NFF get their act together and get a proper coach to maximise the potential of these budding talents. www.completesportsnigeria.com/siasia-must-get-arithmetic-right-iwobi-leads-generation-next/ Good write up from complete sports.Iwobi and Alexis were my men of d match from Arsenal. |

tbaba1234: As regards his selection in Manu's team, i can't begrudge him that but as a starter, I think Manu messed up.
Manu kept, Success, Iheanacho and Yahaya on the bench at the same time. Those were arguably his best three attackers in terms of natural ability.
Nwakali is struggling but Awoniyi has overcome the initial struggle and is now playing regularly.
I hope Godwin gets the opportunity to shine again. I do nt fault Godwin Savior's starting of our second and subsequent games after Iheanacho and Yahaya failed to live up to expectation in d game against Brazil. They simply didn't fit into d coache's philosophy and got relegated to d bench. Savior scored twice against North Korea. The selection i majorly disagreed with was starting Awoniyi ahead of Success even though Success had scored 2goals after d first 2games with Awoniyi nt scoring any. By and large I know i had this argument with some peeps here; i have seen better talented crops than these Manu boys. |

joseph1013: While it's true that Manu's selections were appalling, I don't think Saviour's choice was a bad call. He, at the time, was a very good player. Remember that he was playing first team in the U23 team at that time. Infact he was so good in the U20 camp that Simon Moses was willing to recommend him to his club in Belgium.
I'm surprised at what has happened to him. I hope he bounces back. Such things happen to players. It does nt imply the end of his career. U saw Quadrado's case with Chelsea and now he is in Juventus doing well. Another such player is Angel Di Maria hu is now on fire at PSG. If his play pattern doesn't suite dat of d club's philosophy then they should loan him out. He could possibly rediscover himself. And to his inclusion in Manu U20 WC selection. I am surprised that peeps are bringing it up in this matter. Savior simply impressed d coaches in camp and so made d squad. Is he d only member of that squad that has been struggling at club level? How are the following players fairing: Musa Mohammed, Zaharadeen Bello, Chidiebere Nwakali, Musa Yahaya, even Taiwo Awoniyi and a host of others. They are all still struggling to find their footing in professional football. The only 4 members of that squad that have really set their careers rolling are Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Isaac Success and Dele Alampasu. Ifeanyi Matthew is also doing well on d local front bt i feel he deserves a better league. Savior is a good player, he can still bounce back. Remember Manunited released a yound Paul Pogba, Chelsea also sold-off young Romelo Lukaku and Daniel Sturridge and u know where these players are today. |

Petrobros: Icon4s has spoken. There is usually a way this bros makes his predictions. He usually brings in the words "pedigree", "experience" and the likes. Most of his predictions and expectations have usually followed that pattern.
I am not trying to blow his trumpet for him o, but I just want to say it as it is. Most of his predictions for our national teams at tourneys have usually come to pass. There are several other great guys on this Sports section bt there is something abt this Icon4s and his way of analyzing football and making predictions.
Go back and recall how he said our U20 were nt likely to win the WC. I was one of those hu almost insulted him for that. He predicted our Super Falcons should celebrate if they win 1pt from their WC grp of which they only celebrated that 3-3 draw against Sweden. He predicted the Amuneke Eaglets were favorites to win d U17 even though dey finished 4th in Africa. I remember how he stood for the Team after they lost 1-2 to Croatia. I also remember how he wroteoff South Africa in that tourney for lack of "pedigree" even though they finished 2nd in Africa; and predicted teams likely to do Africa proud as any of Nigeria, Mali and Guinea. He also predicted Nigeria to scale through the grp stage of the CAF U23, though he didn't predict we would win the tourney.
So let me ask you sir how far do you think these Falconets team will go? Haba! This man just day follow me bumper to bumper sha!. OMG. "Pedigree", "Experience" But these are vital pointers as to one's predictions on how far a Team can go in a tourney naa. The Japanese girls can't be underrated either. I see Nigeria as being in a difficult group. Do you recall that Japan and Spain finished First and Second respectively at the last U17 world Cup? Nigeria lost 3-0 to Spain in the Q/final of that tourney. We expect to see most of those players that featured for Spain and Japan in this next U20 WC. Canada may nt usually be as technically gifted as the other 3 teams in the group but they can punish any of the other Teams if they get their tactics right. However, I still feel Nigeria are slight favorites majorly bc of our pedigree at the U20 level. A couple of the 2014 U20 girls will be part of this Team and that will give them that boost in the area of experience. The following players from the last U20 are still eligible: Sandra Chiichii (goalie), Jiroro Idike, Yetunde Adeboyejo, Uchenna Kanu, Osas Igbinovia, and Chiwendu Ihezuo. It is left for the technical crew to invite them if they are still in form. I know Adeboyejo, Ihezuo and Kanu were part of the qualifiers. And I think goalkeeper Chiichii also. I expect a tough competition. We are in a difficult group. |
